I think it's necessary for people to cease & desist from peddling baseless stories about Tinubu. Bola Tinubu travels to United States & to Chicago, Illinois in particular several times a year & I think If the Feds have an axe to grind with him, he would have been picked up in of those times. We may not like him personally or his style of politics, but putting him on the same level with Buruji Kashamu doesn't cut it. |
Well, I don't know about you or your significant other. But I do almost everything in this list, except tampon of course,in the presence of my baby & she does that as well. I hope you get there someday. Btw, we shave each other's pubic hair when we can. No pretense in real love. |
OP, I'll like to categorically refute your claim that the Efik people were the earliest Nigerians to embrace Western Education & secondly, your claim that Hope Waddell Training Institute,Calabar is the oldest secondary institution in Nigeria. That is so far from the truth. These are the historical facts: Below are the first five secondary schools in Nigeria & the year they were established: 1. CMS Grammar School Bariga, Lagos. Year 1859. 2. Methodist Boys High School Lagos. Year 1878. 3. Methodist Girls High School. Lagos. Year 1879 4. Baptist Academy, Obanikoro,Lagos. Year. 1885. 5. Hope Waddell Institute , Calabar. Year. 1905 In light of the above, few facts could be deduced: 1. Hope Waddell Institute is the FIFTH oldest high school in Nigeria & NOT the FIRST. 2. Hope Waddell Institute is the first high school east of River Niger( present day South South / South East). 3. If Lagos had its first secondary school in 1859, it is reasonable & factually correct to affirm that the Lagosians of that era were the first to actually embrace Western Education. 3. The Efik people of Calabar did not have their opportunity until 46 years later. (1859--1905)=46. My Intention is just to offer a constructive criticism & also to inform everyone here & nothing else. I hope you & others see it likewise. |
I weep for my beloved Nigeria. |
Translation: Baba, Leave me alone, I'm only following your footsteps! |
So it's a taboo to write or call breast what it is on Nairaland? What the hell is bosom cancer?Stop this madness already! |
I've been out of my beloved Nigeria since Fall 2001,& I've been back couple times. Though United States has been good to me, but home is always where the heart is. Regardless of whatever the socioeconomic situation is in Motherland,I'll be back home permanently in less than a year by His grace. |
Dear Mama, On February 14th 1990, you left this sinful world. You knew me too well even before I discovered myself. You labored so much from the very first day you brought me to this world, just to give me comfort. You were the only one when no one else cared. Mummy, I took lot of things for granted while you were here. You worried so much about me, even till your last breath. I wish you were here to reap the good seed you sow. I miss you everday!. My sweet mother & enforcer, Continue to rest in the bosom of Our Lord. Mrs. Mary Titilayo Ajoke Adesanya (nee Aina) June 1st 1947--February 14th 1990. |
Hello, I intend to venture into Haulage business pretty soon. I will be transporting products for manufacturing companies & I was wondering what form of business / company registration do I need. Kindly advise. Thank you. |
purpleclouds: That's not true at all. I recently got my license in the US and it was a simple sight test and road test and proof of insurance. I only had to pay for the license which was a small fee.To Purpleclouds: I don't know how long you've been living in United States or the state you got your Driver's License from, but I've been living in the same United States for a minute, & I've had to obtain & renew Driver's Licenses in different states since I've been here,so I think I'm not a newbie. The Driver License issued to you is CLASS " " or its equivalent depending on the state that issued it to you. That's the same thing millions of Drivers have in the states. Check your License & let me know if I'm right. It does not permit you to drive a commercial vehicle. If you need to drive a commercial vehicle like school bus, dump trucks ,tank trailers or any vehicle above 26000 GVW, you'll have to go & apply for another license that fits that category.I'm 100 % right about this.I'll like a feedback from you. |
I applaud the Lagos State government for creating this Driver Education Program. Driving a commercial vehicle should not be equated to driving a private vehicle. If you drive a commercial vehicle for a living, you should be a professional. In other sane societies, that's the way it is. In United States for example, if you want to drive to earn a living, you must go through rigorous tests & trainings & this is a continous process depending on the state you reside. It doesn't matter how long you've been driving or how long you've had a regular Driver's License. The Commissioner is a product of that environment & he should be applauded for Introducing it in Lagos state. Its meant to protect lives & properties. Its no different than other professionals in other endeavors attending seminars, on the job trainings & refresher courses. We can't just focus our attention on the fines that could be paid for non-compliance. I hope people understand the fact that this program is not for everybody. It's specifically meant for Commercial Drivers. |
@Jollof, I've actually witnessed most of the issues raised, but in my own opinion & observation, a larger percentage of these behaviors are very common on Lagos -London routes. You always have to be prepared for all kinds of shenanigans Nigerians display when you are on this leg of your journey to & from United States, which is shameful to say the least. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying its only happening on this route. |
Having read through most of the posts on this thread,I'm just spell-bound at the level of anger, bigotry & sheer intolerance & to a large extent, ignorance that is in full display over nothing!. May God help Nigeria & Nigerians. |
@dmainboss, Why wouldn't you just use a Visual Aid If necessary to see what the Op posted ? With what I see up here with my two eyes, he did not say this protest took place yesterday. It happened today, not yesterday! Please read again!. |
This is one of the most uninspiring & totally absurd point of reasoning ever! How could you have compared these two different societies and put them on same measuring scale? It's bothersome to see & read some people's comments on this medium, most especially some Nigerians living abroad. I generally like to refrain from use of foul language on the Internet, but I think It would be safe to say the OP is a slowpoke! By the way, It would be out of point to think or assume that all Nigerians in Diaspora think or reason the way this guy does. Not at all ! |
This evening's game between Chicago Bulls & Lakers went down to the wire. It was pleasant to see Da Bulls winning the opening game of this truncated season on the road, & in L.A for that matter! My Predictions: Watch out for the Eastern Conference Finals Rematch between the Chicago Bulls & those Miami 'cold'. Bulls goes through to the NBA Finals on 4-2 Aggregate over Miami! GO BULLS!!! |
I can't believe you really asked me to produce the official transaction documents of this deal. That's very funny. I hope you realized that the source of this information is not a Nigerian-owned Newspaper or tabloid, so I will assume the paper would have no premeditated reason to publish lies or uncorroborated story against Lagos state government, its agencies or any of its partners. By the way, I'm aware that Lagos state government under the current Administration, have made so much progress in all facets of life, & the governor should be commended for all that. However, we should also be able to criticize the Administration constructively, if the government performs below expectation in certain areas as well. Happy Holidays to you & your Family. |
@ EKO ILE & GENIUS 100 Let me begin by reminding you what BRF told Lagosians in October 16, 2011 , while marking his 1600 Days in office. He said inter alia, that he ''had Inspected the ''15 YEAR-OLD'' COACHES and was convinced they were good enough for the project'' From the www.nowtoronto.com article, It revealed that ''half the cars (coaches) are more than 30 years old.'' The question now is Does the Governor actually know the actual age of these coaches when he told Lagosians they were 15 years old? To answer one of your questions that dealt directly with how much was paid for the coaches. Quoting the Article, The Toronto Transit Commission's spokesperson, ''Brad Ross, though declined to discuss specific figures, he says the ''STICKER'' price for Lagos is '' SIGNIFICANTLY MORE THAN THE SCRAP PRICES'' putting the TTC profits in the millions of dollars''. Please, this is very straightforward. How do you spin this.? Bear in mind that these Coaches are said to have been ''DECOMMISSIONED" & when they reach this stage, ''they are usually sold for Scrap Metals'' .Take note of the key words here : Decommissioned, Scrap metals! Let me delve into the scrap-metal aspect a little. If I, an Individual approaches a company or organisation like TTC, to purchase these coaches, & they tell me they usually sell them for as high as CDN 1500/coach to scrap metal buyers/ Dismantlers & Recyclers. Since I'm ready to buy up to 260 coaches, I think you would agree with me that I shouldn't pay up to CDN 1500/coach because of the quantity involve, regardless of what I intend to use it for. So why should anybody, Lagos state or PPP or whoever that may be pay ''SIGNIFICANTLY MORE'' for it? The article says the Commission's profits will be in Millions of Dollars. Whereas, the total cost of 260 Coaches multiply by CDN 1500 equals CDN 390,000.00. Where does the difference go? I hope you will agree with me that the Toronto Transit Commission sells these coaches with Caveat; that they (seller) are not required to meet any & or perform any safety standards & regulations before selling them off to Eko Rail. Also, Its been gathered that ''these coaches, due to their age, requires much more frequent maintenance work than the new ones''. So, wouldn't it be a better route to go If we decide to go for something that doesn't require frequent maintenance, owing to our maintenance culture or lack thereof. I really don't get what you meant by apples & oranges question here . Though, a personal computer & Train coaches do not serve the same purpose by any means, but I'm sure you know what i'm driving at. There are phases in technological advancement. For the mere fact that we did not make use of 70's & 80's Rail Technology while it was widely in use back then, does not not mean we should start from archaic technology in 21st century. And if we must, for whatever reason(s),it should cost the citizenry next to nothing.! I'm enjoying the tone of the discourse so far since it is devoid of usual personal attack & abusive words on this medium. Lets's keep it civil as it is. |
@ EKO ILE & other Folks of the same School- of- thought; I have a hypothetical but pertinent question(s) for you & I hope you would answer the question in a straight-forward & thoughtful way. Would you pay top dollar for the purchase of a 1980 Model IBM Personal Computer for your child right now, because your child needs a personal computer at home?. As you can see , this question is two-fold; Paying steeply for it & taking into cognizance the model year of this machine. I hope I'll be getting mature & measured response(s) on this, because I don't have time for any personal attack. |
By my own definition, An educated man/woman is someone who can make the best use of formal education and/or training receives in a formal setting and blend it with the day to day life experiences garnered far and near & over the years. The ability to harness the very best of these two, I believe, is what qualifies someone to be educated. This, without doubt, is so arduous a task for a good number of people. |
toba:It's really unimaginable how some people would really go out of their ways to put down what is truly their's , only to glorify everything that is foreign to them. I do not condone violence no matter what. But when folks like you describe traditional festivals in your homeland as ''useless''; It's an understatement to say your comment is absurd!. Constructive criticisms from you & others, on how these traditional festivals could be safer for all and sundry. would have been the noble way to go. Having lived in one of the so-called ''advanced countries'' for years have really changed my perception of a ''Perfect Society'' , which some folks would like to glorify when they go back to their Native-land. There's no perfect society! |
Jason2010, Without mincing words, I agree that the level of kidnapping & other criminal activities in 9ja is worrisome. I hope all concerned ( federal, state & local govts), would find solution to the almost becoming epidemic nature of these vices asap. Having said that, I think It's very wrong of anyone , including yourself to suggest that driving an expensive or late model vehicles attracts kidnappers or thieves. People have been robbed while driving earlier models vehicles as well. For you to opined that driving a Toyota Fore-runner is a safe-haven is troubling. Someone driving a 1988 Toyota Carina might equally think you are flaunting as well. Also, you said your friend from Chicago that was with you vowed not to come back to Nigeria again? That is one of those rubbish some folks spew when they are in 9Ja just to be 'stay 'relevant''. If your friend actually lives in Chicago or knows "Chi" darn too well, what happened at the Festac club shouldn't be a reason not to come back to my beloved 9ja.(we see violence in black clubs in chicago frequently) I can only come up with three reasons. Maybe he rarely goes clubbing or never been to one in Chicago, secondly he doesn't have time to watch Local News ( WGN TV, ABC 7 or other local TV) because you hear these kind of things everyday, maybe not actual kidnapping ,but all other vices. Thirdly, he might be one of those folks that comes to my beloved 9JA & starting acting like what happens in Nigeria cannot happen wherever they are coming from. I detest such group of people with passion. Reason being that they are either ignorant or just plain lying. Most Nigerians in Chicagoland area resides in Cook county. More than 80% lives within the city limits & south suburban Cook County & this is where most of the crimes are being perpetrated. If your friend actually lives in Chicago as he claims, there's a high probability he lives in the afore-mentioned. Therefore, I would expect him to act right. Unless he actually lives in Kankakee or Springfield,Illinois. Or worse still, he felt outta place in 9ja for whatever reason. Nigeria is my home & love it with passion. Chicago,Illinois's been good to me & is the best city in North America! |
@beeman80, My dear brother, I don't know If you'll have the time & or patience to read all I have to write, but I'll make it really simple: If you are not coming to the United States on Immigrant Visa, please stay in Nigeria & make the best of ''little'' opportunity(ies) you have as of now. But on the other hand, If you must come to the United States for whatever reasons or objectives, under any other Visa category,(including F1), based on you Family situation, You should be looking at minimum of 5 - 8 years before you actually ''Put your feet on the ground". What's gonna be your economic, financial or social status in 8 years If you stay back in Nigeria? Think about this. America is a beautiful place, but all that glitters is not gold. |
Come on Governor BRF. Really? |
It's only few more hours to the special month of August. If you were born in this month, I'm wishing you the very best in all your endeavors. August 9th checking in. Give me a buzz if this month & or date means something to you. Holla. |
JUO:Thanks for your response. Few questions here; how many kva generator would be required to charge the battery conveniently . 2ndly, somebody mentioned Magnum brand as regards the Inverter, what do you think? & finally are these batteries 6v or 12v 200ah? Your e-mail address & or cellphone # might be useful too If you don't mind. Thanks again. |
femiolorun:Thanks for your response. I'm pretty certain most of them would run concurrently except maybe light bulbs, PC and the ceiling fans might run half the time stated earlier. |
I'm really appreciative of people who are willing to share their personal & professional experience as regards any topic. Does anybody have an idea, how much should I expect to spend on the Inverter & the Battery, (buying & Installation) to power these items below consistently for 8--10 hours daily. 1. (2) 2HP Split Air-conditioner. 2. (2) LCD TV's. 3. (1) Stand Alone Fridge. 4. (1) Freezer. 5. (1) Home Theater. 6. (2) Ceiling fans. 7. (1) PC & printer. 8. (6) Light Bulbs. Thanks guys. |
I do not have my facts to either agree or disagree with the assertion you made about Ondo state being the Number 2 Oil producing state in Nigeria. But where I may have to disagree with you is your statement regarding FUTA. Decades ago, Federal Universities of Technology were established strategically & primarily for advancement of Nigeria's Technological growth. These institutions are FUTA, FUTO & FUTMINNA. They are established solely for this purpose, this is why they do not offer all those other programmes you mentioned. This is however, not unusual because you will find this kind of arrangement in all parts of the world |
@lolostic, What kind of truck would you have to have to guarantee a Million Naira returns on monthly basis? Send your response to tyzeed@yahoo.com. Thank you |

I remember those days when I would have to commute from Gbagada to Lagos Island to make International calls, just to speak to my parents. Used to be #20.00 per minute back then, & I'll have to do all I could to rush back to Gbagada to Inform my friend down the street to prevail on his parent to let me receive call at their house. Of course they were the only one with "'the mighty house phone"' in the neighborhood. The only problem is that the call might come too early before I get there or much after I might have left their house. Well, It's all good. |
