Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Got A Good Job After Years Of Trying by ephi123(f): 4:13pm On Mar 12, 2017 |
she234: Hello everyone, I started working in 2013 after completing the compulsory NYSC. I finished with a 2.2 although narrowly missed out on 2.1.
I got a job in a funny industry (logistics and supply chain). I thought the industry was funny because I had hoped to start working in oil and gas and earning good six digits from the first day, lol. I picked the job earning 5 digits as a contract staff and started learning the rudiments of logistics. Although there were times the salary was very discouraging, I stayed on the job because I wanted to build my experience. I remained a contract staff for over a year but gained good experience. Although I was offered permanent employment with improved pay, I wasn't satisfied because I knew deep down in my heart that I deserved more. I Was very loyal to my bosses and kept fighting on my knees and got some cool certifications.
My job came by referral, A foreigner that has worked with me before headhunted me, I didn't need to undergo any form of interview. My interview was just a chat, briefing me about the new role and the profile of the company I was to join. My new salary is more than 3 times what I earned in the previous company with other mouth-watering benefits attached.
I kept praying for a ''miracle job'' the whole time and also told God I didn't care how he would do it. I got disappointed many times after going for interviews with my experience and wasn't called back/got regret mails. I didn't know God was preparing mine to be a complete miracle.
Thanks for taking the time to read this post and I sincerely hope my story can inspire someone. Happy Sunday!!! First of all, congrats OP. And just to add, it's such a small world, you never know where you will meet someone, or when they would recommend you for something you don't even expect. If you had been slack when you worked with this guy, he wouldn't have bothered. |

Until a woman asks me for sex, I won't give it, and if the motive is devilish, then I will unleash the behemoth in me. What does my comment have to do with sex? You need to get off the internet and clear your head. Just an advice, of course you don't have to take it, it's your life to live how you choose. |

B2Spirits: Whenever a conglomerate of f00ls are needed for online shindigs, nairaland will forever pass as a best destination. Now you earned 232 likes for vomiting an advice that best passes for fish market gossips and trendy drivel.
Before brandishing the rhetoric about work ethics, do you think a sane person will paint accurate picture of the office online while he is still there? What you failed to realize is that I'm a language user with untold weapons needed to cover my tracks.
You will do best talking about iphones, hair wigs, eye lashes, and or maybe factorial notation, having called yourself a mathematician. I'm too mystified a being to target with such reckless shenanigans. I wouldn't have replied you, but you littered my thread with such feeling of accomplishment by a gender I best refer to as second fiddle. In 2017 for crying out loud, some people still carry this kind of thinking around? Wow, wow. Speechless. |

OP, was it not advice you came to seek? When did this become a fighting match with other posters? Na wa o. |

Kathmandu: Was buhari an upgrade to Gej? Stop sounding slow. I don't want to join issues with you but kindly stop being Mother Theresa here
Cc eph123 my friend hey, I didn't get your mention (you missed out the letter i), only saw this comment when reading posts by those i'm following I guess people are entitled to vote for who ever they choose as long as they are ready to live with the consequences. GEJ wasn't up to par imho - wasn't firm or strong and also endorsed corruption, so people thought buhari was the lesser evil at that point in time - but he has however proven to be the greater evil unfortunately. |

But speaking from experience, being on a troubled flight can really try the soul. I don't blame her for the emotional outburst.
(Due to a very rough experience, there is a particular airline that I will NEVER fly again, even if their return tickets are FREE.)
Let's rejoice with her for the second chance at life please tell us the airline |

Ioannes: Yeah, chefs.
I see their restaurants like laboratories where new and tasty delights are created.
If he was asked to cater for children's party or something in the medium range, I'd think it would be more convenient to do most of the work in his laboratory (sorry, kitchen ) and transport to the venue.
But then I haven't been in such business before, So I think I'll bow to a superior knowledge of the workings of caterers. Haha! |
Business › Re: How I Started My Successful Catering Business - Oghor Promise by ephi123(f): 12:58pm On Mar 11, 2017 |
Ioannes: Yeah, I get that.
He said he was still undecided whether to handle foods or pastries. Just thinking that Maybe he's stalling Because it's now time to commit some serious money into the business and he's getting cold feet.
Besides, I'd always thought all caterers had restaurants where they tried out new delicacies and made money from while waiting for the odd catering contracts here and there... Okay, I see your point. It could be he is good at both thus undecided which to go for. Re: restaurants, i think those are chefs you're referring to. |

After all you invested the same bank salaries into the business.
Dumped like say you work there for free or at gun point. It is the Mod who renamed the thread, no where in the interview did the guy say he "dumped" banking. It is stated in the post that he made the decision to resign because he got married to a colleague which is against bank policy. |

montezz: Wow! If you feel like there's something out there that you're supposed to be doing, if you have a passion for it, then stop wishing and just do it. Not everyone will work with a corporate organization. Naija bad naija bad.... People are still making it big.
BTW,I don't know why I find men that cooks attractive. So very true. Better to take baby steps than keep waiting, journey of a thousand miles begins with with a single step. I know Nigeria can be frustrating but if you are truly passionate about something, you won't be able to just keep it in, you will do something no matter how little. |

When he's established, Let's have this convo again, shall we? He is a caterer, he provides services. He doesn't need to establish a restaurant because he is a caterer, they are two separate things imho. |

Banking no gree am na to cook egusi soup im go do well, na lie. Na wa o. First, success is not only about money. Second people who shout I'm successful, I'm comfortable, I'm xyz etc are usually not, at least not to the extent they think they are. What is wrong with a man having a catering career? Are we still in the Stone Age? |

One of the things I work on, which we don’t do often in Nigeria is this: everybody cooks, some people cook better than I do, frankly. What a lot of caterers lack is timeliness and service. Those are the key areas I work on seriously.
Timeliness in the sense that my clients don’t get to the venue before me. It never happens. I don’t like it when people call me on the phone to know where I am. If you tell me 12, I want to be there 11. I never disappoint my clients because of time.
Service in the sense that we don’t rush. We don’t serve people food with dirty or oily plates and say people are rushing. We don’t rush. We must take our time and clean the plates. Even if heaven is falling on top of earth, we serve people with dignity. We dignify service. You are not serving dogs. But in Nigeria, most people don’t care. They eat anything and say it doesn’t matter. It matters a lot to me. When I get to a venue, I dictate the pace of my service. I tell my clients these things. I take time to explain to them and they are happier after the events. This got my attention. In Nigeria where African time and not so good customer service is the norm with a lot of caterers, this is definitely a big selling point. Very inspiring story, he took action and followed his dreams. Kudos |

Bigsteveg: Why is it bad for an international airport to be shut for repairs. Have u not seen such in developed countries b4. U say govt lacks maintenance culture, now they wanna repair u are complaining . You are on point with the other things u said. But the aspect of closing down the airport for maintenance is necessary..
Can u drive a car that is at the mechanic workshop at the same time.
E fi ote le Do other international airports shut down COMPLETELY? No one is saying it shouldn't be repaired or maintained, the point is it doesn't have to be completely shut down. We are in 2017, people at the helms of affairs should think up creative solutions. Other international airports that are busier carry out constant maintenance without foolishly shutting down a major gateway into the country when we badly need foreign investors. Not everything is "ote", there is an expectation for basic common sense from decision makers. |
