[b]Over the past few days, the BBC has been airing Hard Talk interviews held with two Nigerians who granted what I considered to be well articulated views. These Nigerians are Archbishop Idowu Fearon, the incumbent General Secretary of the Anglican Communion.

Abp Fearon who is an intellectual heavyweight, and the former Anglican Bishop of Kaduna (previously Anglican Bishop of Sokoto) defended, to my great delight, gay rights of lay and clergy within the global Anglican church. Psychology graduates are one of the most highly sought after, for example, in the UK. You can go into many areas of specialisation as already highlighted by other respondents. If you find yourself in the UK system, you need to do a BPS certified MSc which confers you with GBC. Then, you undertake one of the professional doctorates to fully qualify as Educational, Forensic or Clinical Psychologist, etc. The minimum salary is no less than £30,000. The job market for psychologists, currently, isn't bad in the UK.

Who says Nigeria is not a zoo occupied by animals. Soldiers are supposed to defend citizens against external aggression. Instead, they are reportedly killing those they should protect. Even if they were provoked, who made these soldiers judge and jury? I never regret shredding my Nigerian passport.

Other than re-telling a story, without any detailed analysis and application, how is this an academic publication. This would fail if submitted as an undergraduate essay in a UK University (those of you who have studied here can confirm) I googled the author. He is UNILAG Lecturer. This is a typical example of what I always talk about on NL. Nigeria is doomed with this kind of dodgy academics publishing dodgy works.

[b]Blaine Harden is a total idiot. His assertion demonstrates his lack of knowledge and understanding of Yoruba history. In fact the secession that the Igbos embarked upon only in the 1960s was attempted by the Yorubas in the 18th century. Following the annexation of the buffer Nupe Kingdom by Uthman dan Fodio, Oyo-Ile, the administrative headquarters of Yorubaland, at that time, was overran but not annexed thanks to the joint efforts of indigenous soldiers from other parts of Yoruba land (the Ibadans, Ijebus, Egbas, Ondos, Ijeshas, Ekitis, etc.) who collaborated with the Oyo soldiers to push back the Fulani invaders. An aftermath of this is that whilst the Oyo hegemony was dealt a mortal blow, zonal armies (Ijebus, Egbas, Ibadans Owos, etc) became strengthened. Conscious of the weakening of the Oyo hegemony, the other Yoruba city-states broke free of Oyo dominance, and subsequently became embroiled in a series of internecine wars which ultimately fuelled the trans-Atlantic slave trade that witnessed millions of Yorubas forcibly ferried across to the Americas (especially Brazil, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Venezuela, etc.) where elements of Yoruba culture and traditions (arts, music and dance) as well as religions (Sango, Ifa, Obatala, etc) still persist. Conscious of the fact that it is peaceful resolution and not violent conflict that resolves disputes, the Yoruba people have learnt their lessons. They may deploy 'shakara' (empty threats) but never, as a people, resort to violence.

What I explained here, I learned in primary school and I am thoroughly ashamed of the fact that Nigerian history is no longer mandatory in our schools. Compulsory civic studies (in the 1970s) didn't stop my generation from becoming world class surgeons, accountants, financial analysts, scientists and professors in various disciplines. And I feel really sorry for this generation and future generations of Nigerians for being denied knowledge and understanding of their culture. Sociologists and anthropologists in the house would agree with me that formal education is an avenue for socialisation and enculturation. The Nigerian society is currently failing to enculture its own. Any wonder an ill-educated American would publish rubbish about our motherland and certificated but uneducated, uncultured and un-liberated Nigerians would rush to defend rather than lambaste the imperialist and Orientalist. Most importantly rather than join forces to 'fight' the idiot, the matter has become a source of tribal mudslinging. Any wonder, foreigners are entering our country to plunder our resources whilst we're busy engaging in inter-tribal verbal war. [/b]

This is a paradox. What you've done is criminal. No one has the right to violate the other person in such a manner. Conversely, you have prevented your friend from contracting HIV. What your friend needs to do is ask the girl to go and check her HIV status. This is because, as some people may have already suggested, she may not even know her status. Knowing her status would not only enable her to look after herself, but also prevent her from spreading the disease - except she knowingly wishes to do so which is criminal. The moral of this story - trust no one.
