I may drive Mercedes but in comparing the two as business entity. The Japanese automaker are miles ahead of Mercedes.

Toyota sells more cheap cars
Mercedes sells more expensive cars
But Toyota profits gaps Mercedes own by miles

And in addition Toyota also competes with Mercedes in its luxury version via Lexus and Lexus is doing very well globally.

So personally there is no basis for comparison

They actually share a whole lot of parts. An Avalon shares a lot of parts with the Lexus ES same as the Highlander and Lexus RX

And that is what makes them popular, the ability for you to source for one part from multiple vehicles, and this is how they mass produce
