Interesting.

Still want to know maybe EFCC has some pointers:

The funds were kept at Sterling bank account for many years, unused by the State Government in a Fixed deposit Account yielding interest. Who was benefiting from the interest yielded in the account? Was it going to a personal account of a Top Government Official?
Don't mind oluboh of a moniker.

Oluboh:
Someone dropped this, and it actually clears the air a great deal.

There is no balance that would be returned to CBN.

"it is a face saving statement from EFCC".

For the benefit of those that would want to know let me try to state some fact about the whole saga...

Unlike what EFCC claimed, the loan wasn't from Sterling Bank but a bailout loan from CBN (not a single commercial bank in Nigeria will give an entity a loan @ 9% interest).

As we all know CBN does not give loan directly, they usually use DMBs for such facilities, and Sterling Bank was chosen for this particular facility in 2019 with the following details;

1. CBN request SB to give KGSG 20billion and monitor utilisation, meaning all the loan will be disbursed from SB.

SB opens 3 accounts not necessarily at the same time.

SB disbursed 20B loan into the 1st account opened for KGSG.

KGSG instructs SB to open a "Bailout Salary Account" and the 20B is moved into this.

KGSG profiled the salary account on Remita platform, it's payment gateway.

KGSG proceeded to disburse the funds from the salary account directly into beneficiaries account in various banks.

For the second account opened by SB, as is the procedure in similar transactions, CBN paid 20B into this account as a kind of collateral should the state become insolvent or unable to pay for whatever reason.

The 3rd account SB opened was for managing the loan facility repayment, as is the practice in banking industry.

Facts That Checks

A) Before EFCC rushed to court when they got "inside info" they neither contacted KGSG or SB for proper information gathering or investigation .

b) EFCC only approached the bank, SB and KGSG only after the court judgment.

c) EFCC requested for and got all the payments reports that shows complete details of payment made from the funding account to beneficiaries accounts including details of the beneficiaries and time stamped from Remita platform.

d) All these reports can easily be verified through either the beneficiaries or through the various beneficiary banks.

e) Of course verification by EFCC confirms that the said 20B was judiciously utilised as agreed.

Lastly the 20B paid to SB as collateral (now 19.3B) would be returned to CBN in tranches dictated by the loan facility repayment by KGSG until the loan is liquidated.

I hope my clarification above would help in whatever measures clear some grey areas.

It's obvious that EFCC only succeded in exposing their inefficiencies and lack of due diligence.
Epistles without sense. Did you read the judgement of court? Was it EFCC who gave the order or the court? You must be part of the corrupt fellows in this country trying to save the face of your cohort. Why not go to the media and spew this trash? Here's not the best medium to cajole people. Oniranu

...that's possible after we have a REAL country. We're still experimenting as we don't have a country yet. In a country, you don't segregate, you love equaly , leaders in a real country aren't bigots, they don't practice impunity as a leader and as seen today rather, they practice equity, justice and fairness for all. Security, health and safety of citizens would be paramount to you as a leader and you must be ready to die in the course of making the 3 happen. In a country, leaders lead to serve and not the other way round.

In Nigeria, there are many countries waiting for a rebirth and sovereignty. That robe used to tie these countries to Nigeria would soon become loose and every country would stand on their own. Mark it today

Yahaya Bello is really killing people in Kogi . Just imagine the level of wickedness this man carries out on his own people .
Not his fault. He was never voted there. He wasn't the people's choice Audu/Faleke was the people's ticket. Had Faleke been a Muslim, he wouldn't have seen Buhari's red eye. Religious and ethnic bigotry go scatter this country under buhari. I've never seen such a based leader like him.

Maybe Yahaya bello wanted to use the interest to revive his moribund transport company FairPlus. This company packed up immediately he became governor. He's a disgrace to the Nigerian youth. I hate it when people, especially his fellow politicians make references to him each time we clamour for youth leadership in Nigeria. He's not a true representative of the youths because he was planted there against the wish of the people. No wonder he's become dumb in the media in recent times. I've not seen him blab as usual on channels tv in recent times

Let Facebook mess up like Twitter, just one blow will knock it out. grin And all these grammar you are blowing will be like dreams. Donyou know what people said about Twitter that govt cannot ban it? And today, what has happened?

Do you know how govt has been checking crypto? Oga, let us be sincere, who moves money abroad from Nigeria? If you allow me analysed this issue for you...eh..you go just dey look. Who uses crypto? Why did govt ban crypto. You should know na. If you know how much politician and civil servants are embezzling daily..mehn! So, these same people cannot use crypto again...and Fluttereave wants to partner with paypal. See eh! I know this is going south before they even start. Forget it. The way PayPal will clamp it down when Nigerians start laundering with it. When FG starts bombarding Paypay and then starts running after Flutterwave.

How much is in Nigeria legally sef that they are talking of 3 billion dollars? Ok ooo. Make we dey see. When govt wants all dollars pass through them so they wont manipulate it again?

Na person wey no understand or wey no get sense will rush into this. Let me be honest with you...Flutterwave is about to make govt clamp down all means of e commerce. Mark this post. Na money laundering they are gonna do more. Where is the money? Show me? Wetin dey out economy now?

It's time I checked out of Naija before it gets too late. I can see danger ahead.
I kuku understand all you're saying. The crypto you mentioned isn't synonymous with flutterwaves please note and it was never mentioned in the newspost, that crypto was going to partner with them in anyway. The 3bn usd mentioned isn't for their Nigeria base alone. They render lots of services and one of it is online payments intermediaries for their clients , most of whom do not operate within the Nigerian space. Flutterwaves hq isn't in Nigeria too. Twitter, PayPal, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc do not operate from Nigeria as well.

I repeat, in the case of flutterwaves, all what the government or the CBN can control is spending limit on debit/credit cards on online transactions and this is not peculiar to flutterwaves . For instance, the cbn could say, every card holder must not spend beyond 300usd in a month on online-based transactions. Even if the government clamps down on flutterwaves activities in Nigeria which is unlikely except they violate our laws or dent govt image like twitter, it's only going to have an insignificant effect on global transactions done on flutterwaves platforms because the tech company's scope is global.

Despite twitter ban, millions of Nigerias still access their twitter accounts everyday, except the VPNs isn't in operation again. If you have a serious business to do on twitter and its your source of living, there's no stopping you.

If you had said flutterwaves can be sanctioned by the CBN, should they violate the set rules or law of the land, if and only if they operate like remita, Paystack, specta, etc , which flutterwaves has interest in habdling locally, I'd say yes! But on online transactions which is as global as Facebook and other techs, no! The CBN or Nigeria govt can only limit spend by customers on their cards for online transitions which isn't only peculiar to flutterwaves and if they shut their local office due to any reasons, while Nigerians would still bypass govt sanctions, the rest of the world, including our neighbouring Benin Republic will still patronise them.

Go and ask how CBN has stopped them many times. And if CBN stopped Crypto which is unregulated, how much more fluttave vehicles. Dey deceive yourself. Believe this $3 billion at your peril. Dont say I havent told you.
So, if you pay for Facebook subscription, twitter subscription, etc does the cbn stop you? When you pay for your hotel reservations abroad, does cbn stop you from making such payment on booking.com...and where did you hear of crypto as part of flutterwaves clients or partners in this news post? The only power the cbn has is limit your spend on your card. They can't stop you from paying with your card( either credit or debit ) online. The virtual visa and MS Cards to be introduced would even facilitate all these payments. Stop thinking upside down

Buhari through CBN would have killed this tech company with their many nonsensical policies but God pass them
Dem no fit. Its a global tech company. They don't need CBN to operate rather, they operate like CBN because clients pay through their platforms to third parties. Each time payment is made to face book for instance, flutterwave collects and remits to Facebook just the way we have remita in naija. CBN doesn't have power on this.
