the truth is that our police force is very inept if not, most of the criminals we have here are actually not that smart. most criminals in this part leave a lot of evidence behind that can easily be retrieved through forensics. Also simple cell triangulation which has been perfected in many climes can easily lead you to the hideouts of these criminals.

The reality is it happens everywhere. I went to university abroad and was a victim. I missed finishing as First Class student by 0.2. I got a total of 69.48%. Going by the school regulation, any mark from 69.50 will be rounded up to 70 and awarded 1st class. So you can imagine my pain that I missed 1st class because a randy lecturer was determined to take a revenge on me while I was innocent.

It happened that he has been harassing a fellow female student who happened to be a friend. This lecturer imagined we were in a relationship and reasoned that I was the reason why this lady did not agree to sleep with him. In fact he offered to pay the hotel bills but this lady would not give in. All along she never mentioned it to me that this lecturer was tormenting her until when we all finished. Then she revealed all, including this randy guy groping her on one occasion. She said I must have noticed, despite the fact that I was very good in his course, he was always hostile to me. She mentioned a couple of fellow female students who confided in her that they had to do his bidding before they could pass.

It was a long story, but that says it all, that it happens abroad.

Cost to power = $12960000.00 per year
Convert to naira=5132160000
If it gives light offer 12hrs we can say it generates 5132160000/2 = N2566080000
Let's say they bought diesel for 150 naira per liter =N4950000 per day (150x33000)
Let's say it supply's light for 12hrs only =
4950000 x 15 (half of 30days equivalent of 12hrs per day)
=N74250000
1yr will cost =891000000

Profit for the yr= 1, 675, 080, 000
Let's say 600 000 000 is cost of maintenance nd workers salary

Profit is 1 075,080,000

Cost of generator = 3 800 000 000
Within 3yrs they should get their capital back..
This would have been profitable if at all the north uses meter for electricity (19 naira per kwa)
Sadly they pay Nepa bill manually (highest 1k per month, even at 3k per month it is not sustainable)

here is a more comprehensive analysis.
the current cost of elec in Nig. is about 19 naira. but remember that both transmission and distribution have a cut in that 19 naira but for the purpose of simplicity let's assume the gen plant gets the entire 19 naira per kW.

cost of 1 mW of power------ 19 x 1000(1000 kW make 1 mW)=19000 naira

cost of 38 mW daily output------- 38 x 19000=732000 naira per day

cost of diesel 33000 litres @ 100 naira per litre( conservative subsidized estimate)------33000 x 100=3,300,000 daily

bottom line------- daily revenue(732000) - daily cost (3.3 million) = -2,568,000 (daily loss)

note this analysis is based on the gen plant getting the entire 19 naira per kW which is not possible because trans and distribution will collect a cut

also the analysis is based on a subsidized 100 per litre of diesel.

These are interesting figures. If just N3.8billion could build a 30mw gas/diesel plant, then I would assume N38 billion can build a 300mw plant and N380billion (~$1bn) can build a 3000mw plant.

If these above figures are real, one begins to wonder how OBJ spent $16billion and GEJ spent about $8billion, yet power generation capacity is still not up to 6000mw.


This is one bloody expensive venture to operate, reason Nigeria should forget the initial capital cost and consider solar power.

this seems to just be a glorified diesel generator. how sustainable will it be If it is run on diesel except they are going to be getting diesel at a subsidized rate I doubt if they will break even at 24 naira per kW. gas would have been a better alternative but again piping gas to the plant is going to be problematic and it will also be face with pipeline vandalism which is currently plaguing the other power plants.
