That was the sound of me falling out of my tree from laughing so hard. $1.75billion, on solar for 1125MW. I'm a *huuuge* fan of solar, but this effort might do us more harm than not. Let me see if I can explain in between stifling my laughter.

First, we know that 1/2 the money will just be eaten, so we're down to $875 million

Second, our minister has not yet learned to successfully manage the hydro and thermal plants we have on ground successfully, but rather than fixing the problem (underperforming plants, woeful grid, and ne'er do well vandals), we're pouring money down the drain on new infrastructure. I know some towns whose transformers have blown for years now.

Third, does this involve huge banks of battery banks or are we only going to see electricity when the sun is shining?

Fourth, solar needs a good amount of maintenance (cleaning the panels regularly, battery replacement) to continue to work. I'm sure there's no money in this budget for maintenance or replacement. How do we dispose of (or recycle) all the used batteries? Are we just going to dump all that lead in our ground, every 2-3 years?

Fifth, show me a government-provided solar installation that worked after six months.

Sixth, have we trained anybody local to install and maintain? Or are we going to see rusted pieces of metal in about 1-2 years time?

Seventh, how are we going to pay for all this? Is it loan, bonds, or existing cash? Will tariffs rise 3x?

Guy you don't know how solar farms operate. Let me try and educate you a little. The setup of solar farms are a bit different from domestic solar where u either store the energy in batteries or have a grid tied system. In solar farms the the DC power generated are inverted immediately and stepped up by transformers and sent into the grid for consumption. Secondly the solar farms are not going to be owned and maintained by the fg. The fg (which still owns the transmission sub sector) has only signed an agreement to buy the electricity generated by the solar farms established by the various companies.

In engineering there is a concept called "single point of failure". Concentrating the generation capacity in one location makes it susceptible to failure and endangers the entire country. Even more advanced countries are moving towards a decentralized generation system. The guy is either ignorant or is being mischievous.

What exactly do you know about solar energy from an engineering standpoint? What makes you think it is much more complicated than hydro or thermal generation? As a matter of fact solar generation (using solar panels) is much less complicated than other forms of power generation. It can even be deployed at community levels thereby reducing the stress on our aging transmission lines. The only downside is the cost.

About a week ago, my simple server was browsing just fine on PC. I used to do the BBLITED plan of #70 and I could open just any wep page with it.
Since 3 days ago, the thing no dey gree browse again. It only manages to open Nairaland and Facebook now.
Gmail doent open anymore, Youtube doesnt open, and many other websites.
The strange thing is that it was working very well last week, but now, its a problem.
Please to those of you still browsing with simple server, share your experience pls. Can you give me the simple server you are using if your own is still working pls....Thanks.
