What is the argument here? The living standard or which country is richer? The Nigerian economy is bigger than the UAE in nominally GDP. When converted in purchasing power parity, Nigerian economy is over a 1.2 trillion dollars while that of UAE is just 600 billion dollars. What most here don't know is that before 2060 Nigeria economy will be bigger than that of Canada, United Kingdom, France, South Korea and almost 98% of Western Europe. GDP only points to the size of the economy it does not reflect the standard of living. Nigerian GDP is bigger than south Africa's but sa is far more developed. by virtue of Nigerian population it is expected to have a large GDP.

Obansanjo placed embargo on Ibeto Cement from 1999 to 2007 where as he allowed Dangote as sole importer of cement within same period.. If that is not monopoly, I wonder what it is.. Before 1999, Dangote is nobody compared to Ibeto as far cement business is concerned.

that was because ibeto was using his licence to export rather open a factory to manufacture cement as was originally intended that was why his licence was suspended.

what aspect of the economy was he given monopoly over? I know for sure that in the cement industry he was given licence along the several other persons to open factories but rather than open factories some of the others started importing until govt step in. also he has started building a refinery now but are u you aware that before now more than 9 licences to build refineries have been given out but those people did not build refineries rather they import petroleum products by the guy time he completes the refinery now people will start shouting monopoly, where is the monopoly.

those positions are mostly based on the level of training and education of the persons. it is a known fact that the south if far ahead of the north in education. also note that for highly specialized positions for which it may be difficult to get local experts, he employs expatriates.
