Spy360:What resource did City have when they finished 4th last season? What resources do Barca have now when they could win only La Copa Del Rey? What resources did Leicester have when they won the EPL? The use of the word "resources" is pretty armchair if you ask me. If I have all the resources in the world and not buy who I feel can help my team how will my "resources" come to bear? The season for Pep is a failure according to you. Which means if he had won a Carling Cup he would not have failed. But that type of short term craving is why Leicester are nowhere today; they won for today and hoped it would carry over to another time but success does not work that way. Atleast I am giving you the opportunity to quote me next season. There would be a marked improvement from this one and City will be palpably better than they were this season. In EVERY competition they would feature in, they would do significantly better than this one. Can you say the same about Arsenal? |
iPopAlomo:Who was 2nd and 3rd that year? If Sneijder did not make the podium at all how then was he cheated? |
Spy360:Did Poch fail last season or his first? Did Klopp fail his first season? I admitted Pep won nothing and if he left City today, his time there would be regarded as a fail but since he is still there on contract it will be hasty to judge after this season. I know you don't like him but Kenyans will say "Not yet Uhuru". |
4dor is correct. FSociety, you are the one missing the point. |
Spy360:The Pundits don't know anything but you do. And you would always be right because you make your own analysis based on a result you have already seen. But hardworking Pundits have to project. God punish them for being wrong. All hail Wenger. 3rd best manager according to you behind only Conte and Poch. |
Spy360:You are trying too hard. Changing formation has nothing to do with pattern of play. Arsenal recently picked up 3-5-2 and 3-4-3 but don't play like Chelsea or Juve. Barca have used 3-4-3 even since Pep's days and they don't play like Chelsea. Mou built that team as a defend first option and that was the foundation Conte built on. That's one. Conte moved A here and B there. That is not just moot but superficial. When he moved Ake and John Terry against Watford did they not leak like a faulty tap? Yes, because personnel matters. If CFC had damning injuries and were forced to use Iva as RB they would have suffered in some games and it would not all be Conte's fault. That's how to be objective. LOL. Bellerin is a star? And David Luiz, Batshuayi and Alonso were not stars for their former clubs? Why you dey talk like pikin? I mentioned those managers to show you a successful term is not based on one stint. Heck, RDM had resigned after winning the UCL and he would have been compared with Pep but TIME, TIME is what exposed him as a dud. Pep's first season he did not win a title in England. To fail, he would have to end his tenure there today. If he does not and goes on to coach for subsequent seasons we would judge him a failure based on the integration of all his seasons put together. Pep came to change the City footballing culture, playing style, dominance and team. City want to become a juggernaut not some has been like AFC. If he had done everything in one season you are the same person that would have said he did nothing but inherit a good team bla bla - after all, you are saying it about his time in Barca. If he is a fraud, he is a better fraud than Wenger. Case closed. |
iPopAlomo:You mean like the year 2012/13 when CR7s RM were 2nd La Liga, Semis of UCL and lost in the finals of La Copa Del Rey but he was crowned WPOTY? You mean the time they reopened voting for the award after he scored a hat trick to help Portugal qualify for the 2014 WC in the Playoffs meanwhile Messi had qualified Argentina as South America's top team plus he was the top scorer. Including winning La Liga with 100 points and 60 goals in All competitions compared to CR7s 51? Where CR7 had 34 La Liga goals to Messi's 46? Don't. Kid. Yourself. |
birdman:Well, I did not watch the game sha so you have a point. Was surprised to see K Love and Kyrie clock 34mins and Bron clocked 42. |
iPopAlomo:You are now mentioning Barca and Bayern yet the same you said anybody would have won trophies with those teams. Stop OVER glorifying trophies judge things critically. Poch and Klopp have won nothing but you and Spy praise them for having good seasons even though LFC played Carling Cup and Europa finals last time and nothing this season. United won Carling and may win Europa but you still troll them by showing them they regressed from 5th of last season to sixth - Because they were boring and drew a lot of games. In the same way, judge City from their big game performances, chances created and prospects for a new season not just based on trophies. As per Brendan (almost won a league 13/14) flopped hard the next year. Laudrup won Carling Cup with Swansea and flopped hard the next year. Ranieri won the EPL and flopped hard the next year. Carlo Ancelotti did the double and flopped hard the next year. Don't. Judge. A. Manager. Over. One. Season. One of the strongest sides? Yes. Which means there are others. Also, factor injuries into how things went. They missed Kompany, Gab Jesus, Gundögan etc at key times. |
iPopAlomo:Pep did not win anything in his first season in England. Failed is finite. Wait till his tenure is up then judge. If we judged Jupp based one season in Bayern he failed as well. Pep was tentative with his defense and rightly so. Besides he had targets but the transfers did not go through. He wanted Bellerin and Bonucci but their parent clubs did not let them go. Calm down. I have nothing against Conte. But changing a formation and changing a pattern of playing are not the same. One is harder but brings longer lasting results. I am not one to jubilate or be despondent over one season. Brendan Rodgers, Laudrup, Ranieri had one good season and got booted the next. A new formation will not make you a dynasty. Ask Carlo in CFC. |
I am just seeing that LBJ played 42mins to get 38pts. Naah, the dude is playing for his stats. He had no business playing for that long in a blow out game except that. I hope his fans don't use fatigue as an excuse later when things go south for him. |
sapiosexual1:TLue can have a genius idea without being a genius (See DNA discoverers ). Surely a Sapiosexual someborri should know that. |
Spy360:Oh but changing drastically is an excuse. Did you see how CFC played against Watford until some first team starters were brought back? That is what a drastic change can do. Pep will still get a better LB and RB (the types that can bomb forward and play defense) unlike what they have. Try to imagine Juve's season without Alves. Also the break creates more time for his players to imbibe his playing style - because it is beyond a formation. At Barca or Bayern he would have been sacked? That also depends on what he had available and what the previous manager achieved. Improvements don't show up in only trophies. Jupp Heynckes was not sacked after going trophyless his first season. He was signed to change City's style and culture. He does not only work on the tactics but also on player recruitment and rebuilding. His structure is still very much at Barca and Bayern till date. Just open your eyes and look. If his structures were ineffective, successive managers after him would have sought to dramatically change it but they don't. I hope you know for example that Gundögan got injured early on. Gab Jesus (who has outscored Rashford in far less games) came in Jan and got injured. Nolito and Stones got injured at different times as well. They would have contributed more if they were not unfortunate. Meanwhile, Joe Hart made a lot of gaffes as well in Torino. If I raised that as the reason City won nothing you are the same person that would have told me "if he knew Hart would be a problem, he should have changed Hart". Allegri is going to win a treble this season. Did he do so in his first and second? Improvement. |
Celts are like 1/16 from 3 and they are still trying to shoot. Getting killed on the boards as well. Pathetic performance from everyone. I hope game 2 is going to be better. They have lost this one. |
showbobo:This is a first. Are you in Nigeria? https://www.reddit.com/r/nbastreams/comments/6bsgwl/game_thread_cleveland_cavaliers_boston_celtics/ Check as many as you can here. But that one I put there did not ask me for credit card info. The site specifically mentions that you should not pay a dime as it is free. |

sapiosexual1:Keep it man. We don't want to leave you broke. ![]() |
bigkesh:Remember when I said Kante and not Hazard was CFC man of the year, you guys thought it was incredible. But the PFA agreed with me. Let us watch and see this one (Provided RM don't win the UCL). |
Spy360:Conte did not change the structure dramatically. He used basically the same team he inherited bar Alonso and Kante. What you want is for Pep to change every single leg in areas he sensed needed improvements but only a coach eyeing 1 season would do that. Remember when Fergie won the league with CR7 and Rooney in 2007? He said it was tentative. He wanted to test out that team to see areas he needed to change quickly but how soon they won the league made him know he had a dynasty on his hands. Remember how they were walloped by AC Milan in the semis of the UCL, Lost to CFC by a Drogba goal in the FA Cup and won the league title? It gave him an indication that they could win a treble if he improved a few areas - including mentality. He signed Owen Hagreaves, Tevez and United were an FA Cup short of winning a treble. So what will Pep do; get some bad legs out and replace them then train his players more on his system and philosophy. You say AFC have more points now than they did last season, and you are right, but you did not add that you were 2nd then and now 5th while City that were 4th will now finish 3rd. You did not add that City lost to Tot, Leicester, Westham, Liverpool home and away while taking a point from United and Arsenal. Scored less and conceded more than this season and so on. Tot were 3rd last and 2nd now and you praise Poch for it but City actually moved up a notch and you hound the manager but praise Wenger for regressing AFC by finishing 5th because of the potential of winning the FA Cup. LOL |
Spy360:You can't change a team in one fell swoop. If you change a structure too abruptly you would fail more. Pochettino was 5th, 3rd and now 2nd. Crashed out of UCL and Europa. Won nothing. Great season. Pellegrini was 1st, 2nd and 4th (with 66pts). Pep is a position and 9pts better with a game to spare. There would definitely be improvements next season. You can mark this post. Don't celebrate trophyless as you would have downplayed Carling or even FA Cup had he won them. He failed in the league and UCL. Period. |
As long as Juventus win the UCL, he won't win it. I told you fellow Blaugranas, Let us channel our chakra towards that game so that Allegri will win a treble and the rightful owner of the WPOTY, Leo Messi, will take what belongs to him. Afterall 51>39. |
SIRcumalot: ![]() Eruditor:The shrunken and emboldened word is what I praised as genius. |
SIRcumalot:Well I get the point but it is neither here nor there. Without Timmy, Spurs don't get to the WCF. Without Parker they don't win the WCF. Without Kawhi they don't win the finals- he was MVP for a reason. |
Donlittle:The genius is not in beating the Spurs my good man. It is the decision to deploy the least likely player (going by the last series) to cause severe havoc to a great defensive outfit. It is genius because it was clever and yielded unprecedented results. Like Timmy, Parker, Manu and Kawhi of 2013/14? |
Kerr. Gave. McCaw. Iggy's. Minutes. That's what I praised as genius. Phil Jax and Pop used atleast 4 HOFers each to win rings but I get your point. |
Mike Brown told journalists that it was Steve Kerr's idea to give Pat McCaw, Iggy's minutes. The idea ended up being genius. Pop does this and they would write blogs about it telling us how intelligent he is (which he is). But Kerr's own is always because he has good players. "Lately, I feel the haters eating away at my confidence. They scream out my failures and whisper my accomplishments" - Aubrey Graham. |
I am not watching the 2nd half. Not trying to be arrogant or anything but I doubt we would let this slip. |
SmooshCHN:I am sure when you made this post the scoreboard read 76-72 in favor of The Wizards and this was in the 3rd Q. Only moments after they were down 94-81. That is why they are a mentally weak team; When the pressure is on, like graphite, they crack. My only prayer now is that Brad Stevens devises a playing style that can forestall Cavs 3s and force LBJ to make jumpers. The good thing is, between Celts and Wiz, Celts would enjoy homecourt advantage over the Cavs. Let us hope they make it count. |
Decale:You are right but GSW were playing worse than you had ever seen them and Kawhi had 11FTs in 24mins. He was also 1/4 from 3. I am saying this because they ended the game 7/22 from 3 (and 3 of those 3s came in the 3rd Q including the 2 fortuitous attempts by LMA and Simmons). In other words, they did not shoot the 3 well yet the 3ball kept them in the running in that quarter when Curry was knocking his. Would it have continued? Their intensity dropped, they did not outrebound GSW in the 2nd half and the trend before he limped off was showing this was bound to continue. They dealt with GSW in the paint but Gasol had to step out due to fouls and once LMA got doubled he lost his rhythm. Surely, if Kawhi was still playing he would have been a strong option but it did not appear he would have been as a threat from 3. If he relied on drawing fouls it may have failed too, refs stopped giving Spurs easy fouls as the game wore on. Besides, GSW were always going to make a run. Now I am not saying GSW would have definitely won had he been there but the notion that Spurs would have definitely won had he been there is a bit of a stretch - I think. We also have to factor that Pop is an intelligent man. His team was up 21 (before the 2 FTs from the Kawhi/Zaza debacle) and Kawhi had rolled a niggling ankle injury yet Pop left him on. I think he did that because in that 3rd Q it was clear the trend was changing. Again I am not saying GSW were going to win but the argument can be made that a top defensive unit like SAS should be able to see out a game that they were leading by 23pts even without their best player. |
Decale:They beat Houston by 39pts without him and saw out game 5 before that, without him as well. 2 things that worked against them were; 1. Gasol on 5 fouls early in the 3rd, could not form part of the twin tower that wrecked Houston and GSW (quarters 1-3) with paint buckets and rebounds. 2. GSW were in momentum defensively and offensively just before he rolled the ankle. LMA and Simmon's shot-clock-ending 3s were rather fortuitous if you would agree, meanwhile Curry was matching them with his, in rhythm. It was unfortunate what happened to Kawhi and I pray he returns for game 3 as I doubt he would be back by game 2 but Curry gets stepped under virtually everytime he shoots a 3 and nobody calls it dirty play. The refs never even give him a foul. In fact, after Kawhi's ankle got rolled the second time by Zaza, LMA stepped under Curry but the refs did not bat an eyelid. |
