I forgive everybody that has ever wronged me because of Steph Curry. I cried all through. Sorry Mynd44, I would have supported your team on any other day or series. |
Regardless of how this game goes, my only consolation is that I do not think they can sustain the amount of 3pt shooting on display. Shots from LMA, and Simmons in particular. I knew Pop would use his game 6 Rockets vs Spurs tactics today. |
The simple answer is that he is not the best player in the league. He is awfully good, but here is the case against him: 1. His shooting efficiency is around league average. All of the other players who have recently been considered for MVP are substantially above average. Their offensive workloads are not like Westbrook’s, but they are still extremely high. 2.Westbrook averaged 5.6 turnovers per game, and his turnover total was second all-time. (Hilariously, James Harden was first) 3.Westbrook is responsible for the highest share of his team’s offense in NBA history, but that offense only ranks 16th. Even if you think that Westbrook’s teammates are trash, Tracy McGrady’s 2003 Orlando teammates were clearly much worse, and that team ranked 10th in offense. And Westbrook’s teammates aren’t trash: it was only a year ago that Steven Adams was considered one of the best young centers in the NBA, and the Thunder recently gave Adams, Oladipo, and Enes Kanter 20M/year without anyone raising much of a stink over it. 4. Westbrook’s defense vacillates between “OK” and “very bad.” It’s not reasonable to expect someone with his role in the offense to also be a lockdown defender, but this is a major strike against him. 5.There is nothing particularly interesting or important about a triple double. It’s neat, and it speaks to the level of his involvement, but it’s not obvious to me at all why it’s more impressive than any other kind of set of benchmarks. 6. Ask anyone. Hell, even ask yourself. If the space aliens landed and we needed to play their team for the fate of the Earth, are there players you would take over Westbrook? Of course there are. LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant at the very least. Probably James Harden and Chris Paul as well. Voting for Westbrook for MVP is definitely not crazy or wrong. His offensive load is unprecedented (and positive), and his clutch play this season was unbelievable. But it’s definitely not obvious at all that he is the world’s best player. Comments from quora |
Honestly, people don’t hate Russell Westbrook. However, Russell Westbrook is the classic Allen Iverson, Steve Francis, Stephon Marbury type player. They are going to put up great stats and look spectacular doing it. With that said, they are going to dominate the ball to the detriment of their team. Hence, none of them ever won titles, which is unfair to say because only so few do. But, one could argue that the Thunder had the most talented team in the league over the past 3–5 years. If you watch guys like, LeBron and KD play, they generally make the right pass at the right time. They rarely sit with the ball, and dare I say, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble. Part of what makes the Warriors, Spurs, and Cavs (on occasion) so good (outside of talented players) is the way they swing the ball. And by swing the ball, I mean pass at the right time. Heck, go back and watch an old Jordan game when he started winning titles, he was constantly swinging the ball and rarely sat with it. I don’t foresee Russell changing his behavior as a player. I also think that’s a big reason Durant left too. Durant knew that Russell’s behavior wouldn’t change, and that greatly diminished their chances of winning a title/titles together. Also, you should go back and watch Durant’s MVP season. There was a large swath of games during the early to mid part of that season where Russell was injured. If you watch, you’ll see that Durant was playing point forward (Steve Kerr actually has him doing this some in Golden State), and very effectively too. Often, Durant would bring the ball up the court and pass it within the first eight seconds of the shot clock, usually to a screening/picking Ibaka who would shoot a jumper or keep the ball moving. Basically, Durant was making the right basketball play. Also, after a slow start without the injured, Russell, the Thunder, and more importantly, Durant got rolling. During that stretch, Durant led an OKC team into Miami without Russell and won that game by more than 20 points. Later that season, when a healthy Russell was back in the lineup, Miami came to OKC and blew the Thunder out. While watching that second game between the two teams, it dawned on me that Russell was often not making the right basketball play. Russell was holding the ball too long, taking ill advised shots, and passing to Durant with usually less than eight seconds on the shot clock; when defenders knew he was going to have to shoot. An objective viewer could see that Russell’s playing style affected the Thunder and Durant’s rhythm. Basically, teammates never knew when they were going to get the ball, and Russell seemed to be more interested in stuffing his stats and taking it to the guy defending him. Now, just because Russell is a stat stuffer, does not mean that he isn’t competitive. I think he may be one of the most competitive athletes I have ever seen. In addition, him and Durant won a lot of games while playing together and advanced deep in the playoffs. With that said, watch Durant and LeBron play. Yes, they have superior talent around them, but they seem to be more interested in the success of their teammates and team than they are with their own numbers. I hope I am wrong about Russell, because he is so explosive and fun to watch, but I don’t see him capable of playing in this fashion that will deliver titles…even if OKC assembles the talent around him to do it. SixSigma1:Thank you for this. I wanted to reply him civilly until I read the part that he called people idiots. It just put me off. |
ayodele234:But you were the one who called people idiots first and now you want to form sanctimonious. |
LOL, it is pedantic garbage because it has no bearing on what is being discussed unlike Beverley forcing 5 TOs and 7/27 out of Westbrook in game 5. Even when it is pointed out to you, you still tie yourself in more torturous strings attempting to press control +S on your DP to save face. I am surprised they did not import Götze-talk from another L in another thread ![]() O boy see fodder for Kevin Hart: KD is the reason Kanter, Adams and Roberson were not scrubs only a year before. But under the leadership of Russell they became one and it is still not Russell's fault? You are making my case for me. LOLIn any case, this ^^^ should qualify as pseudointelligent tommyrot but I won't tell you to save it. Keep spewing it for my entertainment. ![]() I do agree with you however that Harden had one of the worst (which means there are others) performances ever by a star player taking only 11shots in an L. Only if he had added 23 more shots to make him lose respectably like the other player who still lost a close game due to dumb heroics. And since the word for today is "dumb". I wonder what number on a scale of 1-10 we will use to qualify the notion that a lousy moniker on a faceless forum was created for self aggrandizement. That is like saying someone else is trying to be a little don or another person claims to walk in the sky. But if it helps you lay pipe my niccar, I am not about to put a plumber out of business #BroCode ![]() |
Taking shots without having the best look. It is not okay to see a niccar refusing to pass it up or trying too hard...Westbrook. ![]() I know JVG and Mark J work for ESPN but you get an E for effort. You do realize some people are in China and Korea so the commentary they heard will be in Mandarin. That is even besides the point. The link I clicked had TNT on it. Whoever named it thus could be making an error like the guy who saw Beverley limit RW to 7/27 in game 5 BY HIMSELF, OKC with JUST KD beat Spurs or he could be this guy: http://bballhaven.com/jvg-and-mark-jackson-shuts-down-israel-gutierrez-over-klay-thompson/ Anyways, Harden's laid back/chilled way of failing his team ain't different from Russell's aggressive style. I won't tire to belabor it. Here is an analogy I used earlier in describing RW, I would extend it to incorporate Harden now (and I pray it does not pass you by). Where some others give you less water than you require (thus keeping you thirsty/dehydrated and leaving you with more to be desired) the other guy overgives you the water such that he causes you to drown. It does not matter as both would kill you. So keep riding on with more pedantic nonsense let reality be eluding you. I already conceded I overstated Nenê's flaws because I got no shawty to impress my niccar. Remind me, Harden was worse than his bench? ![]() |
LoJ:Make I no lie before game 6 of the WCSF between Rockets and Spurs I was housing this inner feeling that we were gonna sweep them but I think Kawhi's injury kinda forced Pop's hand to show us what he planned against GSW. I think his machinations in game 6 (using the quasi-twin towers of LMA and Gasol, limiting PnRs & 3pt shots etc) is what he would moat likely deploy in game 1 against us. Because of this, I am scared. I know GSW have mixed and mashed the offense this season without heavily relying on 3-ball and we are willing to take the midrange shots that Rockets did not, but I question Zaza's post defense and Javale who is better might be neutered by having to run both ends of the floor even when he cannot give us 25mins. I might be cherrypicking things sha but I don't wanna sound too confident. Pop is Pop and albeit, Mike Brown has assisted him before, I would have preferred to have Steve Kerr now playing MENSA-IQ Bball with Pop than Brown. Anyways, after game 2 we would see how long the series will last. |
SmooshCHN:I have no confidence in the Celts tbh especially when they were sure to be ousted by the Bulls had Rondo not picked an injury but right now, na faith matter. Cavs can't go 12-0 before the NBA finals. |
Decale:Na fun I dey catch. This is but a virtual world and the truth will remain what it is regardless. |
My own now is for God to let whoever will take at least 2 games from Cavs in the ECFs to win the series between Celts and Wiz. Celts are playing solid D today but they should not flatter someone and get swept in the ECF. Cavs cannot have plenty rest coming into the NBA finals as I predict our series with Spurs could go all the way. |
Eruditor:This was my post after game 5. After game 6 I said same. I don't care for anyone not on GSWs roster but all the superficial analysis and double standard had to stop. He was horrible. Same way Russell was. I said it for Harden but they'd rather blame OKC bench because somehow accepting that RW should take most of the blame would render the many pages of long balderdash arguments irrelevant. |
SmooshCHN:Adams, Kanter, Roberson that year. Next year, as KD comot, dem become scrubs like the people TLC bin dey sing about in 1999 ![]() |
LOL. Men are seeing visions. Despite copious mentions of system, coaching and role of star player they saw "only" system because lost causes are the way to go. You mean KD 28ppg, did not have RW averaging 25ppg against Spurs? Ibaka and Adams averaging 11ppg respectively? RW also outplayed Spurs best player (Kawhi 23ppg) in the series. Wetin come be JUST KD? Harden was arguably worse than his bench with 24.5ppg and 10apg? Who in both teams outscored and outassisted him? ![]() Harden is being whipped for his bad games and I am doing same. Y'all should show us where you called RW out. LOL. I can imagine RW saying to Harden "boy, you should not have shot 3/17 in that loss. If you shot the ball 26 more times, they would have blamed your teammates" ![]() PS: Na TNT link on NBA reddit streams I take watch the match no vex. Na JVG and Mark been do the coverage/commentary. If you check box score you no go see am. Na people wey actually watch am go see am. |
Double G stuff. Garrulous garbage. ![]() Did Beverley not force RW to 7/27 all by himself in game 5? RWs FG% was low because of shot volume but his teammates combined with over 130 more shots than him had higher percentage because...? Harden is being defended by someone who said he let his team down when it mattered? ![]() LOL, Man like Harden. Damned if he doesn't and damned if he does. If his team wins even with his huge numbers- they helped him. If they lose, even with his huge numbers, his fault. RW on the otherhand can do no wrong. He wins, he did it all alone. He loses, his scrubs let him down. Decale, please remind me of the post I made here about PG13 and his teammates (mentioning you because you quoted me and told me to free RW). A- Harden did not facilitate and went 3/17 E- He was absolute garbage. The reason his team lost. E- WB did not facilitate and went 4/19 A- his teammates are scrubs he had to do it on his own. ![]() Wait, KD is now JUST KD. That is like saying, why did Cavs with JUST Lebron beat an arguably stronger GSW in 2016? These jokes, you can't write them. You knew the bench won't carry Harden so they lost you blame him. Yet you knew too that OKC bench won't carry RW, they lost you blame the bench. ![]() |
Decale:I have never challenged their numbers. My argument however has been consistent: that in a better system those OKC scrubs will do better than they did. That system could have included RW not trying to do all when it mattered. I digress... If you watched that game on TNT, JVG and Mark Jackson were discussing LMAs big game yesterday and trying to explain what happened systemically. They concluded that having to play through Kawhi affected his rhythm and that yesterday, without Kawhi he found his rhythm which helped him make more shots. Mark in particular said "people tend to attribute rhythm to only spot-up shooters but even players in the post need to find their rhythm to make shots" (I am paraphrasing). I was here saying Oladipo, Kanter and co were playing off rhythm. Someone else kept saying what type of off-rhythm will anybody need to be in to go 4/17 or make 2/21 from the FT. Even Birdman was saying the same thing about Oladipo. Dem no gree. Do you agree that in rhythm, a D Murray can outplay a Harden and it will not be that Harden is a scrub? |
birdman:I definitely agree, but playing ahome with their backs against the Wall I expected a blow out win I won't lie. Why did MDA bench triple Dekker even when his presence in the first half helped y'all reduce the deficit to 18 and he made 2 huge 3s out of 4 tries? |
Decale:But was that not my point all along? I said you guys were giving too much credit to the Rockets bench. That they were not world's apart better than OKCs bench. That MDAs system was making them look better than they actually are and that Harden was running a more inclusive govt than RW which is why his team was winning. |
SmooshCHN:Brother, understand. Certain people hate losing arguments. Rather than man-up and accept it, they will change the story and hyperventilate about illusions. MVP conversation finished tay tay. Isaiah T. would have been my choice but when the list was whittled down to those 2 I chose Harden and explained why. We all knew RW would win even before his series against Harden as the journalists who voted had pretty much made their opinions heard, so be careful not to listen to revisionist nonsense. Oya series started, what were the myths I kept attacking? 1. The strength of Rockets bench 2. The underplayed Role of Billy D 3. RWs fault. Each time people would pretentiously accept that RW had faults but then lump everything on Oladipo and the others I kept saying here that RW should get a chunk of the blames. I said after that, Billy D should be censured as well for not helping his MVP help the others. Countless times I showed how RW always played well from 1st to 3rd quarters but then lose it all in the 4th EVEN WHEN HE WOULD BE PLAYING AND THE GAMES WOULD BE CLOSE. I made particular reference to the game RW went 4/19 in the 4th. In another game he was 2/11. To all these the response I kept getting was, V. Oladipo went 4/17. Kanter cannot defend PnR bla bla bla. I reiterated that as lucid as those facts were, they were little compared to RWs role. No, they did not listen. They said Beverly was a beast on both ends. How that Sweet Lou was the second coming of Jordan. How Gordon was a 3pt God. How Ariza won a ring with Kobe. How Ryno was a white KD. How ROCKETS COULD WIN GAMES WITHOUT HARDEN ALL BECAUSE OF HIS BENCH. Class captain even said that it had nothing to do with system even when I kept saying Billy D was getting out coached by MDA. He said it had nothing to do with Harden (as the team could cope without him). Kept showing me 18.8ppg of Lou and huge numbers of Gordon. My reply was always, that Harden and MDAs system helped them play that good. I even went as far as reminding people of their antecedents in their former clubs - Pelicans, Lakers and so on. "They were injured in Pelicans. Lakers were sure to tank". OKAY. They are quoting when they asked me what system Rockets will play when they face Spurs or GSW and my reply is also on this thread: "they will lose both series because the other teams have been enmeshed in their system(s) far longer than Rockets never mind having better players". Series started and before game 6 Harden was averaging 28/8/7 yet his team was down 3-2. Kawhi and Parker got injured and funny enough, Rockets lost both games following the loss of the Spurs starters (including their best player). I am here thinking, I thought Rockets could cope without Harden, why are they losing? If Harden was not that important to them, why then lose by 39pts in the only game he scores very low? Since Rockets bench is so great why not win this game inspite of Harden so that Class captain will be correct? What happened to the magic of Sweet Lou, Ryno, E.Gordon and Anderson? Are they not better than D. Murray, D. Green, J. Simmons etc? Was Gordon not touted alongside L Will to be 6th man of the year? If they want to be logically consistent with their arguments then Harden's players and not him should be panned the same way they argued for RW. I am the one being consistent. I have blamed Harden for the L. Blamed MDA next and let the SUPER bench have it easy. But they have swept everything under the table now. What I am now seeing is how system does not work yet abeg no be system basketball Pop use yesterday? Did Spurs not frustrate Rockets PnRs? Did they not pack bodies in the paint to prevent layups? Did they not guard the 3pt line and force Rockets to make tough shots? Did they not use their big men to outrebound Rockets because Rockets had no interior presence barring Capela? Did they not move the ball to play post with LMA all game? Was LMA not bad almost all playoffs long until yesterday? Was Gasol not poor all round 2 series long until yesterday? Does it not prove my point that without even having better players, a good coach with a right system can make average joes look good? |
Rockets were supposed to be that great team that could cope without their star player. Star player played garbage, Rockets lost. Do you know sweet Lou? Do you know Gordon? Do you know Athreeza? Yea, I do. They are as good as their coach, system and star player- their individual talent is being overstated. Dem no gree. The bench is this and that, that's why they are 3rd seeds. Ok. They just lost like a 7-seeded Memphis (exactly what Most pundits thought they would be when the season began). They only beat OKC because they had better players? Okay. Then why all the hullabaloo about them losing to a Spurs team that supposedly has better players? Maybe coaching has to do with it? Not necessarily better players. Maybe a better system has to do with it? Not necessarily having better players. Spurs lose their best player and go on to trounce Rockets (thus proving my point). L-egends? Change narrative and make it about MVP. ![]() |
birdman:I thought I would see a game 7 truth be told. I even wanted it. Gordon, L Will (y'all lost a first round pick for dude), Anderson were absolute garbage in this series. At least it will be a while before people tell us how great your bench is. Harden folded. 2 shots first half with all those TOs. But more than anything, MDA was severely out coached last game and this. Still don't understand the 7 player rotation and refusing to try midrange shots today. It was too static. |
SIRcumalot:You did not miss much. Low energy, couldn't rebound, played zero defense, static offense; tried to shoot 3s and go for the occasional contested layups. Pretty much MDAs typical moves (which necessitated why people call him a one trick pony). Rest of the piffle you'd read from some posts are just that...piffle. |
LOL...But Harden has better players ^^^ |
Fusion23:I have noticed you are patient and I envy you. Someone takes the plight of illegal immigrants who cannot get decent jobs and are in tough cities like Cali and Newyork (which makes them squat and jam themselves together to make ends meet) and proffers it as a reason he is happy with his decision. He compares himself to them and uses it to ill-advice someone else but is offended when the reality of his braggadocio is unveiled to him. Who has advised any banker to leave Nigeria to work at McDonalds in the US? In the same breath, will I prevent someone working for Goldman sachs in the US from coming back to naija to serve as a Minister? That is why context matters. My friend who works at Amazon now was with Consolidated Breweries before she left Nigeria. Except she won some type of lottery or was opportune to steal alot of money, there was nothing in Nigeria and on her path, that would have shown that by 2017, she would not only drive a Mercedes in the US and live in Silicon valley, but that she would also be able to purchase a property in Nigeria worth N25M. Doubt me, look for people working in Heineken/Nigerian Breweries since 2012 and find out how many mansions, buildings under tenancy and cars they now drive. It is only on NL where people get all those things with 100k P/M yet auditors working for KPMG have not figured it out even when they are supersmart and earn about the same P/M. Funny stuff. |
Donlittle:Sircumalot, Myself already panned him for the loss. We said he was to blame for the L. Where is your post criticizing RW for going 18/43, 4/19 (4th quarter) and 15/34 in his Ls? Instead Oladipo and every other person was at fault and Russell was praised for TDs. Harden did a TD yesterday going 11/24 from the field. Nobody mentioned it because he was horrible in OT. This was the argument we made about RW but then RW was not at fault even inspite of stats, real accounts, pundits, reddit comments, quora etc. Wake up o. By sleeping some have seen Beverley force RW to 7/27 in a game he shot 15/34 but like Bev said to RW "Men lie (with uppercase alphabets) women too, but numbers don't" ![]() |
temitope06:I am not insulting Nigeria. I am dispelling the lies and false narratives people are peddling here. Nobody has told everyone to leave Nigeria. But I would advice someone with the challenges of the OP to port. That's all. |
Pidgin2:The tail does not wag the dog. I cannot use isolated situations of lazy/illegal immigrants to project my expectations. The guy in question wants to go 1. legally 2. Seems to be intelligent and Hardworking. Based on the afore, I have to point him out to people with the same traits that made it over there. You are the one painting eldorado about Nigeria which is not the case. You say someone got a contract of N200M in Nigeria but a Nigerian who went to Loyola Jesuit and Princeton also got start-up capital of $1M in the US. So what are you on about? Another Nigerian who had a first class degree from UNN was frustrated out of the job market till he aced the GRE and went to MIT on a full ride. Today, he works for Google and uses the resources he earns to not only sponsor his family in Nigeria but he also started a company as well. |
SIRcumalot:LOL. No need. Those who know, know. Harden was blamed for the loss not his teammates. Nobody started typing rubbish about him having 33pts, 10 rebounds &10assists and then blaming his teammates like L Will and co that were pisspoor. Nobody is talking about their GREAT bench again especially when (Houston used to win games that Harden does not play well in but not RW) That is the difference between newbies making objective arguments and salty legends of NBA threads with recent L records to their names. |
youngestland:There are so many things you are oblivious of that is why I told you to employ restraint in making these grandiose statements you keep making. Just the same way you have Ikoyi, Lekki and Maitama, that is the same way you have Florida, Newyork and California. So telling me to justify the worth of a $3k a month earner in California is disingenuous. California and Newyork are 2 of the most expensive places to live in. If you want to make a solid case for your argument, find out what the low, middle (upper and lower) and upper class earners in the US earn in general then juxtapose it with those in Nigeria. I can give you an example. The people who earn $3k a month or $36k a year are regarded as lower class earners in the US. Those in the $50k range are middle and those above $140k are the comfy bunch. Now armed with this information compare the lower class earners in Nigeria to those in the US and see how asinine your argument sounds. The $1000 per month apartment in NY (studio flat) is where low class earners live in but in Nigeria, the Lekki big boys who can afford N1M a year for a BQ stay in the same quality of apartment and still have to provide themselves electricity and other utilities that are readily available in NY. You said with 400k you can stay in Ikoyi but that is a lie. Liveable apartments in Ikoyi (not BQs) go for N3M+ a year. I have not added the service requirements or transport/car compulsory expenses. I have not added the need for steadypower that will cost him more than 300k in a month (if he wants to squeeze 12hrs a day of power). He has not added the cost of his daily living and contingencies. On the flip side, an AVERAGE (I mean bang average) earner in Canada or US will stay in the same quality of the Ikoyi apartment above simply because he is partaking in a better economy. I mean, the minimum wage in Canada is $11CAD an hr and even an international student can work 20hrs a week during school session and more on holidays. Working with the 20hrs a week such a person can earn over $200CAD a week or $800CAD a month. He can live somewhere where he pays $500CAD and go to websites detailing apartments at that price range, they will measure up with what people pay 1M for in Lekki and Ikoyi. Can you see what I am doing? I am showing you how minimum wage earners enjoy the same quality of life as Lekki big boys. Tell me, which Banker with less than 10 years experience can afford such luxury let alone a minimum wage earner (19k per month in Nigeria)? LOL |
youngestland:I won't bother with the rest. You are typing ideas not facts. Based on the above, you don't give anyone anything. Don't purchase gifts. Don't buy Asoebi. No family member asks you for favor. You don't buy clothes. Nothing you have needs fixing. LOL. The one that brought me here is the 400k to 3k dollars. Hahahahaha. People who earn $1k a month live better than People who earn 500k in Nigeria. You are asking for breakdown yet people stay in 3-bedroom apartments in Oshodi for 500k a year and they had to pay 200k as agency fee. You need to see the ramshackle that is going for 500k in Nigeria. In Lekki phase 1, people rent out their boy's quarters (studio flat more like) for 1M naira. Just look for a $400 per month apartment in Missouri and see what will turn up. Remember the 1M per year rent BQ is for a so-called big boy in Nigeria and yet he cannot build houses and rent out things to tenants. But on NL, people are starting empires with 100k. LOL |
