Nice write up by my leader here on Nairaland. So objective and straightforward. Well I remember after GEJ called Buhari to concede victory. Many APC e-touts and thugs said it was the hand work of Gen Abdulsallam, who we all know is a member of this commitee. If this same committee are now tell buhari to work the talk, and stop making noise abt probe and corruption. This is 5 months after election, the country is still on auto pilot. No direction we remain stagnant. And all we hear is probe! Probe! Probe! Can't this probe be done without noise. Bishop kukah has made his point and anyone not satisfied should go n die. proud wailer and 5% |
GEJ a man favor from birth by God. A peaceful and humble man. He told us the truth, but some people wanted scam which they got. Like every human who was not perfect, he had his shortcomings. But his humility is now a stabilizing factor in Nigeria democracy today. No matter what happens I still owe my respect and love to this humble man from otuoke. proud wailer and 5% |
Demola Olarenwaju, is one PDP supporter I admire so much, he is so objective in dismissing and dealing with APC Touts and their propaganda. He hit the nail on its head. Y didn't APC show us pics of WIKE vs EL RUFAI and AREGBESOLA vs FAYOSE. Useless party and followers that's wat APC and their followers stands for |
Amechi is the biggest thief from the Niger Delta, while tinubu is the biggest thief from the southwest but in the eyes of Buhari they are saint. This change is scam. Thank God I never voted them |
Following threats from youths in communities around the region, security has been beefed up at the administrative office of the Nigerian Liquefied Natural located at the Eastern bypass, Port Harcourt. According to PM News, about 100 uniform and plain clothe detectives drawn from the Rivers state Police command accompanied by over Police 15 patrol vehicles were stationed at all entrance points of the company. Besides the main entrance of the company, some policemen were also noticed a dock, NLNG cannot dictate to investors where to site their projects. Youths in the oil rich region had on August 3, threatened to mar operations of the NLNG project over plans to site the Drydock yard in Badagry, Lagos. Leader of the Bonny Youths Federation, Simeon Wilcox, accused the NLNG of going against its primary decision to site the N1.6 Billion dollar Drydock project outside the company’s area of operations in Rivers state and Niger Delta region. A youth coalition under the aegies of Niger Delta Youths Leaders also vowed to protest in every operational region of the NLNG over the development. However, the NLNG debunked the allegations in a statement signed by Dr Kudo Eresia-Eke, General Manager, External Relations stating that the proposed Badagry DryDock Project which is purported to be owned Nigeria LNG is not true. “Nigeria LNG has a singular business focus, namely processing and exporting LNG. It has no interest in investing in a dry dock anywhere in the world. “The owner of the proposed dry dock in Badagry is a consortium of other Nigerian companies under the name of Badagry Ship Repair and Maritime Engineering Company (BSMEC) and which NLNG is not a part of. “NLNG’s only interest was and still remains in encouraging investors to consider building dry docks in the country to save the nation’s foreign exchange and save local ship owners, like ourselves, the trouble of having to go overseas for dry dock services. “Nigeria LNG would thus be pleased to see more dry dock projects emerge in different parts of the country, but will not be investing in any. “It is thus fair to add that not being an investor in dry dock, NLNG cannot dictate to investors where to site their projects. “Nigeria LNG therefore appeals to those who are issuing threats based on wrong information, to review their position in the light of this clarification. Besides, threats can only discourage other investors from coming to the region,” the statement read. It would be recalled the Federal Government recently shared N359.4 Billion revenue of generated by the NLNG as income tax among the 36 states of the federation. http://www.thescoopng.com/why-police-beefed-up-security-at-nlng-office-in-port-harcourt/ |
In an interview with public commentator, Kayode Ogundamisi, the special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, claimed that the President never promised to make his assets public. The spokesman said that it was the APC – the president’s party – and not the president himself which declared that he would declare his assets publicly if elected. Adesina probably did not think about how it might look on Buhari’s reputation to be seen as dragging foot on that cardinal promise of his campaign. Let’s assume for a second that it was the APC which announced that Buhari would declare his assets publicly: Did the president ever object to it at any time? So the party kept using that argument to win votes for him and he never objected for once? But that assumption is even unnecessary because Buhari actually promised to declare his assets publicly. The public document of his covenants with the Nigerian people stated this clearly: “I believe if Nigeria does not kill corruption; corruption will kill Nigeria. I pledge to: Publicly declare my assets and liabilities and encourage my political appointees to also publicly declare their assets and liabilities.” Notice that the document did not say “We” or “the APC”, it said “I” – as in, Buhari in the first person. You can see the document HERE. But Adesina tried to shape a different narrative. He said that Buhari has already done what the law requires by declaring his assets before the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB). “You need to get his words right, go and check all that the president said during the campaign, in no place would you see it attributed to him as a person,” Adesina said. “But then there is a document by his party, the All Progressives Congress, saying he would declare publicly, so we need to set that right, it’s a declaration by his party. “Now what does the law require? The law requires public officers to declare their assets; he has done that. But his party has a document that says he would do it publicly. “There is a procedure for that, and the procedure is that you first declare, code of conduct (bureau) would verify and after that, if you want to make it public, the onus lies on you to say release. The procedure has to be followed.” The presidential spokesman went on to say the decision to release or not release the asset for public consumption would be taken by the president when verification is done. “He has declared, and it is deposited with the code of conduct bureau and they need to verify. Let’s come to that time when code of conduct would say we have completed verification.” During the campaigns, Buhari promised to declare his assets within the first 100 days, a promise which was further stated by another of his spokesmen, Garba Shehu, shortly after his inauguration. http://www.thescoopng.com/what-was-femi-adesina-thinking-when-he-said-buhari-never-promised-to-publicly-declare-his-assets/ THIS ADESHINA LIE DON EVEN PASS THE APC FATHER OF LIE OWN SELF. Leader of the Niger Delta groups and the President/Founder of Concerned Niger-Delta Youths Initiative (CNDYI), Ebis Orubebe, in this interview with Vanguard spoke on why the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost the 2015 presidential polls and how to maintain peace in the Niger-Delta region. He said: There was serious internal crisis within the PDP, which led to the defection of some important members including governors, legislators and other leaders. Secondly, this insecurity challenge, especially Boko Haram, was a key factor the opposition took advantage of. Thirdly, you know Nigeria politics; politics of North and South. Some northern leaders accused Dr Goodluck Jonathan of refusing to honour the zoning agreement. I do not know when that agreement was reached, where it was discussed. That was a key factor, the entire North felt power should return to the region. Also, some persons within the party did not do well. We see it as a betrayal, the way they lost scandalously in their areas. In regards to increased insecurity in the country he said: When the Boko Haram insurgency started many Nigerians felt it was just Jonathan’s problem. So people rather than joining him to fight they were busy blaming him. Even the people from places where this crisis is going on were seeing it as just Jonathan’s problem. So that is how it basically got to this point. As we can see, this problem has gone beyond just Nigeria. These people have connections with ISIS, Al-Qaeda and other international terrorist organizations. I will call on all Nigerians to support the current President and the government, to see how we would put hands together and fight it. In regards to the resurrection of the crisis in the Niger-Delta region under President Buhari, he said: Even before the election there were some set of youths, let me call them ex-agitators who threatened that if Jonathan was not re-elected they were going to take up arms again. We reached out to these agitators and some youth leaders to take the result of the elections. I still see some forms of threat, especially on the part of the ex-agitators; arising from what is going on in the current government, which I may call witch-hunt. As of last count, we have three aides to the former president from the Niger Delta, who are being detained and no one has come up to tell us the reasons for their detention. I have my fears, because I know the role we played to make sure that there is peace in the region; and if this witch-hunt is not halted with immediate effect, I doubt that we will continue to enjoy peace in the Niger-Delta. As a group, we are still planning some programmes to bring the youths together. First and foremost, looking at the crisis in the North-Eastern part of the country, we want to work with the youths over there because they are our brothers, and anything happening there affects every one of us. We are also planning programmes and activities that will continue to foster peaceful co-existence among Niger-Delta youths. We have been trying to bring various warring factions and youth groups in the region together to maintain peace. We are planning a meeting with the newly elected leaders in the region, especially the governors and legislators, to see how we can pursue a common goal, which is the development of the Niger-Delta, peacefully. In President Muhammadu Bahari’s inaugural speech, he promised to improve on programmes that were already in place and that Niger-Delta in particular will have a special place in his government. So, we are hoping that he will keep to his promise. You are the President/Founder of Concerned Niger-Delta Youths Initiative (CNDYI), what is the group about? The aim of this group is to promote peace and unity among Niger-Delta youths in particular and Nigerian youths in general. It was formed as a result of the polarization of youths’ groups over the years which has become a tool in the hands of selfish politicians with their divisive tendencies and other Niger-Delta forces. We set up this group to bring these youths together in order to foster unity among them as leaders of tomorrow. May i bring to your attention that, this was her picture from which they photoshopped Deizani. Now my question is, how long will all these lies last? Instead of them to think of Governance, they are inventing more lies by the day.. The truth is, the more they LIE, the more we would keep exposing their compounded LIES........ ~~SMK

Hahahahaha, the guilty are Afraid. I thought Amaechi, recently claimed that the reason he had issues with GEJ was because he stood on the path of truth and did not agree to loot the treasury with GEJ. He also claimed he is a saint and never touched money, why is he rushing to stop the probe, did GEJ rush to stop any probe, did Ngozi Iweala stop any probe, Amaechi, leave the Gov to ascertain the truth about things, maybe you will be vindicated unless you have skeleton in the cupboard. I thought you claimed that you wil expose Wike if he dares, now, fire on, its time the worms are exposed. Na wa for naija and a judge will sit and rule on this?? I wonder!!! A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, has adjourned till August 20, for ruling in the suit by former Governor Rotimi Amaechi, challenging the powers of Governor Nyesom Wike to set up a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate his administration. It will be recalled that Governor Wike had set up a commissioner of inquiry headed by Justice George Omereji to look into allegations around these issues “sale of Omoku 150MW Gas Turbine, Afam 360 MW Gas Turbine, Trans Amadi 136MW Gas Turbine and Eleme 75 MW Gas Turbine, the sale of Olympia hotel, the monorail project, the non-execution of the construction of the Justice Adolphus Karibi Whyte Specialist Hospital after the payment of alleged $39.2,000 to the supposed contractor, the disbursement or use by the Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture of the sum of alleged the N2 billion Agriculture Credit Guarantee Scheme fund, the withdrawal of expenditure of the accrued N96b from the Rivers State Reserve Fund Law No 2 of 2008.” The commission called for memoranda on the issue last month. Meantime, former Governor Amaechi challenged the move by the state government to look into the issues. Attorney General of the state, Mr Ema Aguma said the instrument setting up the commission did not contravene the provisions of the 199 constitution as amended of the Rivers State Law, Cap 50 |

In 1976, Niger state split from Sokoto; In 1991, Kebbi state split from Sokoto; In 1996, Zamfara state was split from Sokoto. Niger State consists of twenty-five (25) Local Government Areas; Kebbi State consists of twenty-one (21) Local Government Areas; Zamfara State consists of fourteen (14) Local Government Areas; and Sokoto State consists of twenty-three (23) Local Government Areas. Sokoto, a single state prior to 1976, was divided three times between 1976 and 1996 into four (4) states. These four (4), states have between them 83 Local Governments. Do note that Lagos state and Sokoto state were the same in 1976 in terms of number of local governments. However, while the Lagos state remains just a state with its original 20 local governments, Sokoto state had been split three times into four (4) states with 83 local governments from its original 20 local governments. It will interest nobody if Sokoto State is divided into 100 states tomorrow and funded by the income generated from the area only. We are, nevertheless, concerned that, it is the revenues generated from the Yoruba South-West Region that is funding economic growth and development in states like Sokoto and all other Northern states. Buhari says looters of national resources are to be arraigned shortly. Mr Buhari is just fooling the gullible Yoruba Youths. The looted resources belong to the Yoruba's and the Niger Delta's people and not the whole of Nigeria. He recognizes the fundamental cause of corruption in Nigeria is the unitary constitution of the country. He knows that Hausa/Fulani have looted the resources of the Yoruba's and Niger Delta's people since the suspension of regional government in 1966. But he is running about with lies and propaganda, grandstanding about curbing corruption in Nigeria. Before Mr Buhari's second coming, we have had Babangida (8yrs); Shonekan (3mth), Abacha (5yrs); Abdulsalam (1yr); Obasanjo (8yrs); Yar'Adua (3yrs); and Jonathan (5yrs), yet corruption hasn't been abated. Why? The section below, which is a portion of the constitution of Nigeria, encourages corruption. Buhari knows this, but he is unwilling to change it because it favours the North: C - Public Revenue "162. (1) The Federation shall maintain a special account to be called "the Federation Account" into which shall be paid all revenues collected by the Government of the Federation, except the proceeds from the personal income tax of the personnel of the armed forces of the Federation, the Nigeria Police Force, the Ministry or department of government charged with responsibility for Foreign Affairs and the residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. (2) The President, upon the receipt of advice from the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, shall table before the National Assembly proposals for revenue allocation from the Federation Account, and in determining the formula, the National Assembly shall take into account, the allocation principles, especially those of population, equality of States, internal revenue generation, land mass, terrain as well as population density;" The past leaders of Nigeria, including Mr Buhari, who were from the North and who divided Sokoto state, a single state prior to 1976, into four (4) states by 1991 and with 83 local governments from merely 20 local governments in 1976, are the looters of Yoruba's and Niger Delta's resources and they are the people who must be prosecuted. Everyone seems to have forgotten that Buhari, who represented the Northern's interests was against Obasanjo's National ID Card scheme in 2003. The card could have curbed corruption and fake population census figures. Today, he is grandstanding about curbing corruption by arresting individuals, without addressing the fundamental causes of corruption. Anyone who believes corrupt Buhari will curb corruption must be crazy. Nigeria's problem isn't corruption. But the unitary system in a multi-ethnic society. As horrible as Tinubu has become, he will protect and safeguard the interests and welfare of the Yoruba people as Yoruba Regional Premier than 100 Buharis. God is not crazy. He couldn't have possibly allowed Babangida; Shonekan; Abacha; Abdulsalam; Obasanjo; Yar'Adua; and Jonathan, with none of them able to curb corruption, if indeed our problem is corruption. Nigeria is not just sustainable under a unitary system. The most corrupt country on earth is the United States. The country still works because it has a sustainable political system. There is nothing like the feeding bottle monthly allocation we have in Nigeria in the United States. The Americans don't have a centralized Police System or Armed Forces. Each state in the United States is in charge of its police, armed forces and other functions. The United Kingdom is more corrupt than Nigeria, yet the country works. It works because of its enduring political system. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, together called themselves the United Kingdom, yet, they go by different football teams, different police systems, different education policies, different currency designs, different healthcare systems, even with different regimental armed forces. The demographics of the US Population is often along racial grouping. That of the United Kingdom is based on ethnicity. But in Nigeria, the people are so fake they don't want to openly associate anything with their ethnicity. They named their administrative divisions ridiculous names including South-West, South-South, South-East, North-Central, North-East and North-West geopolitical zones. They are so scared of their own identities, including Yoruba, Ibo, Ijaw, Hausa/Fulani and Kanuri. Ghana administrative divisions are given such names as Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo, Central, Eastern, Greater Accra, Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions. In South Africa, the administrative divisions are named after the ethnic groups within the country such as the Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and Northern Cape. Nigeria's problem is not corruption. The current unitary system is the cause of our problem. Nigeria must be restructured along regional autonomy or be divided along its natural boundaries. Mr. Buhari must stop insulting our collective intelligence with his stale chrous of corruption, corruption and corruption. https://www.facebook.com/adeyinkagrandson/posts/10152914420336249 |

What we ask for is that all corrupt Nigerians should be probed. Nothing less. shalom. proud wailer |
On Tuesday, August 11, 2015, the Nigerian currency dropped against the US dollar at the parallel market. Traders says that the drop was driven by demand mainly from individuals travelling abroad for summer holidays and importers. According to Reuters, the naira was quoted at 224 to the greenback at the black market. At the official interbank market, the dollar costs 197 since February. Harrison Owoh, an operator of Nigerian Bureaux de Change (BDC), said: “We’ve seen a surge in dollar demand since Friday.” He stated that the bank sold around $160m to BDC’s last week to increase dollar supply. The source notes that BDCs are allowed to sell up to $4,000 as personal travelling allowance and $5,000 as business travelling allowance. Last week the naira was appreciated to 216 at the parallel market after banks had started denying their customers opportunity to make cash deposits of dollar, pound and euro into their domiciliary accounts. https://www.naij.com/515575-naira-drops-224-dollar.html |
There is now a confirmation that the Presidency is ready to commence probe of ministers and other government officials who served under the President Jonathan’s administration. The Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs to the President, Mr Femi Adesina, told Channels Television on Thursday that it would only make sense to look into the activities of the immediate past government rather than delving into all other administration. According to Mr Adesina, “it would be a distraction for the President to begin digging into all former administrations but for a proper take-off of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, there is the need to look into the immediate past government.” He, however, made it clear that it is not a witch hunt, as only persons who looted the country’s funds would be made to return such loots. He explained further that President Buhari would not waste time in probing the administrations of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Abdulsalam Abubakar, Sani Abacha and Ibrahim Babangida. Mr Adesina described the outcome of the President’s official visit to the U.S. as “a roaring success on every side”. http://www.channelstv.com/2015/07/23/buhari-will-probe-jonathans-government-only-presidency/ WHY IS BUHARI PROBING ONLY GEJ'S GOVERNMENT, WHY IS HE AFRAID OF PROBING CORRUPT PAST LEADERS LIKE IBB, ABDULSALAM, OBJ AND EVEN HIS PARTY MEMBERS OR IS HE AFRAID OF THE GENERALS BECAUSE THEY KNOW MOST OF THE SHADDY DEAL HE DID AS HEAD OF STATE AND AS PTF CHAIRMAN. EXCLUSIVE:Nigeria's President, Buhari Dump $182M Halliburton Bribe Scandal Report...Conspiracy of Retired Army Generals prompt Aso Rock back down*IBB, OBJ, Abdusalami Angle* “We're probing Jonathan's Govt”-Presidency*“Probing my govt witch hunt"-GEJ Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari surely meant well for the Nigerian people. His integrity, discipline and avowed commitment to fight, name and shame corruption had never been in doubt since Nigerians have high hopes in his administration to ‘fight corruption among the elites’, in a bid to free Nigeria’s economy from Kleptomaniac. As it is a fad that “when you fight corruption, surely corruption will fight back,” aptly captures the trending conspiracy of few Nigerian Army Generals (retired) and former Heads of State who allegedly prompted Buhari to ‘let-off’ his earlier, intentional investigation of $182million Halliburton bribe scandal, so he may continually ‘govern Nigeria in peace’. CNN iReport gathered that few weeks before Buhari made his maiden visit to United States, words reached him that few retired Army Generals who were erstwhile Heads of State were allegedly not happy with the planned moves by the no-nonsense disciplinarian to re-open the Halliburton scandal, with the sole intention to expose, disgrace and prosecute some of culpable generals and other highly-placed Nigerians whose hands may have been ‘soiled’ by the cookie-jar of corruption in Bonny Island Liquefied Natural Gas Project. As such, after General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), a former Nigeria’s Head of State received a phone call from from General Olusegun Obasanjo, also a former Nigeria’s president where he brought the attention of IBB to the fact that they way Buhari was going about corruption-fight, he would eventually probe the majority of past administration, including IBB era. This position was echoed by another Nigerian Head of State, General Abdusalami Abubakar; which prompted a conspiracy theory to ‘place Buhari in order’. Abdusalami had visited IBB in his Minna Castle in Niger State, there it was concluded that IBB should stylishly pass on their position to Buhari to halt his earlier intended probe of his predecessors. In a press statement issued by IBB through his media adviser, Prince Kassim Afegbua, it reportedly reads: “On General Buhari, it is not in IBB’s tradition to take up issues with his colleague former president. But, for the purpose of the record, we are conversant with General Buhari’s so-called holier-than-thou-attitude. He is a one-time minister of petroleum and we have good records of his tenure. Secondly, he also presided over Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) which records we also have. We challenge him to come out in clean hands in those two portfolios he headed. Or, we will help him to expose his records of performance during those periods. Those who live in glass houses do not throw stones. General Buhari should be properly guided.” CNN iReport gathered when intelligence report reached Buhari on the position of these retired Army Generals and former Heads of State, and bearing in mind how mean they can fully engage him in ‘dirty-fight’ which may ridicule him in the eyes of Nigerians and expose his stewardship then as Minister of Petroleum in 1976 that led to the mysterious disappearance of a whooping US $2.8 Billion from Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC account in Midlands Bank, United Kingdom allegedly under his watchful eyes, Buhari quickly made a detour and issued a press statement through Femi Adesina, his Special Adviser, Media & Publicity claiming the investigation of Buhari administration would only be limited to his predecessor, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GEJ, the man who honorably handed peacefully to Buhari on May 28, 2015 at Eagle Square so Nigeria may remain united as an indivisible nation. For the records, Buhari was appointed Minister of Petroleum in 1976 under the Murtala/Obasanjo administration. Not much is known about any scandals that occured during his tenure as Minister, but there are rumors of the mysterious disappearance of US$2.8 Billion from the NNPC account in Midlands Bank in the United Kingdom, during Buhari’s stewardship. Now that IBB has threatened to expose him, it lends a certain credibility to the rumors indicting Buhari of grand graft. As if Jonathan knew that this would happen. In the last days of his administration as president in Aso Rock villa on May 27, 2015 during Federal Executive Council valedictory session witnessed by big-wigs of Peoples Democratic Party, he said “Some people are even calling for the probe of the government, but I think in Nigeria, there are a lot of many things that will be probed, very many things, even debts owed by states and debts owed by this country from 1960 up to this time. They say it is Jonathan’s administration that accrued these debts,” Jonathan said. “I believe that anybody that is coming for probe must also ensure that this probe is extended beyond the Jonathan administration. Otherwise, to me, it will be a witch-hunt. If we are very sincere, it is not only the Jonathan administration that should be probed.” CNN iReport investigation showed that Jonathan administration may have been singled-out as ‘corrupt government’ due to the fact that he was a minority-leader from Niger-Delta and obviously not a military, but a civilian leader. There are feelers from some Nigerians that this probe may not have happened if Jonathan had been a retired Army General. For Folu Adewope, an undergraduate of University of Texas Arlington, UTA, her words: “This is obviously a witch-hunt, charade and selective humiliation with ethnic coloration under corruption-guise. I strongly believe this investigation would not have happened if Jonathan had hailed from the North and had been a retired Army General. Why can’t Buhari open the Halliburton scandal, and openly prosecute Obasanjo, Abdusalami, Atiku Abubakar, a former Nigeria’s Vice president and every other corrupt Nigerians named in the scandal. As Nigerians, we are interested in this case.” Recently on his Facebook wall-page, Femi Adeshina, special aide to the president on media and publicity, said: “It would be a distraction for the President to begin digging into all former administrations, but for a proper take off of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, there is need to look into the immediate past government (Jonathan’s). We are interested in investigating Jonathan’s government to recover stolen funds”. International Community watch in Disbelief As at the time of going to the press, members of International Community, particularly the United States government is shocked that Buhari ought not to leave any stone unturned in fighting corruption no matter whose ox is gored. The Halliburton bribery scandal is seen by members of international community as a litmus test for Buhari to prove his desire effectively to combat corruption among the elites in Nigeria. Those who show fanatical support for President Muhammadu Buhari and believe that he can never do anything wrong are his worst enemies as well as a threat to Nigeria’s growth and democratic development. His predecessor, President Goodluck Jonathan, suffered a similar fate from sycophants and fanatical supporters. There are two governors who have been taking actions and making pronouncements that win over even their critics: Mallam Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State and Dr Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State. Let’s just look at a little aspect of what they have done since their assumption of office on May 29, 2015. Last week, there was a news story in the newspapers with headlines like: “I need criticism, not praise – el-Rufai tells Kaduna people;” “I need critics, not sycophants – el-Rufai tells Kaduna people.” El-Rufai was speaking at a town hall meeting in Zaria. He said among other things: “We are human beings and we are bound to make mistakes. Don’t praise us. We don’t need praises. Tell us when we are going the wrong direction so that we can take correction and do the right thing.” In Abia State, among the first pronouncements Ikpeazu made upon his inauguration on May 29, 2015 was to inform the state that he should not be addressed as the “Executive Governor” but simply as “Governor”, and that he should not be addressed as “His Excellency” but as “Dr Ikpeazu.” In addition, he directed that all praise-singing songs on radio, TV and CDs be discontinued, and that those involved in such should channel their energies to ventures that would add value to the state. One thing that makes leaders derail is blind support and praise-singing. In most Nigerian states, the state radio and TV stations play praise-singing jingles of the state governors every 30 minutes. The intersections and major roads are littered with billboards of the governors. Before some governors speak at any function, some praise-singers hail them. If the governors have to deliver a speech of one hour, the praise-singers will interrupt the speech every 10 minutes or less. To many governors, that is the way to prove to their political opponents that they are “performing” and are popular. The people can be pardoned on this type of praise-singing because it is orchestrated by the governors themselves. But the dangerous type is when the led have the siege mentality that makes them believe that their leader should NEVER be criticised, because any form of criticism is an attack on the infallible leader. And that is a dangerous trend that many supporters of Buhari are displaying. If Buhari smiles, he is praised as a genial and humane leader. If he chooses not to smile, he is hailed as a serious leader who does not waste precious national time on the frivolity of smiling. If he slants his cap to the left, he is praised for being stylish. If he keeps it straight, he is praised for being balanced in his dealings and thoughts. If Buhari breaks a promise he made during the campaign, these supporters ask: “Is that the most important issue facing us as a country now?” If he takes too long to make a decision, he is praised for being a cautious and thoughtful leader who does not want to make the mistakes of the past. If he takes an action that he spoke against during his campaign, these supporters remind us that Goodluck Jonathan took the same action as President or that President John Kennedy of the United States took a similar action in 1962. In the euphoria to credit Buhari with great achievements, all manner of things are credited to him, including things that he had no input on. For example, on June 11, 2015, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation announced that the refineries (starting with that in Port Harcourt) would start working in July. These hardliners started praising Buhari for the feat. Common sense would have made someone to ask if the turn-around maintenance of a refinery that had gone into despair for decades could be achieved in 13 days (including weekends) – which was the length of time Buhari had spent in office then. Is a refinery a car that can be repaired in a matter of days? Advertisement Even after Buhari stated in a TV interview with Omotayo Omotosho on the NTA that it would be dishonest of him to take credit for the revamping of the refineries, these praise-singers still kept on with the claim. The same thing is happening in the areas of railway and electricity. While the Buhari fanatics are crediting every good thing to the President and crediting every bad thing to Jonathan, the Jonathan fanatics are doing the same thing: discrediting anything Buhari and praising anything Jonathan. The attack on Buhari got so ridiculous that when Buhari visited the US recently, the anti-Buhari elements shared pictures on social media which showed President on a red carpet whose end was visible and used that to say that Buhari was so poorly treated by the US that the US even had to provide an incomplete red carpet for his welcome. Even the way Buhari stood or walked while in the US was criticised. The plan is that Buhari has to be portrayed as bad in toto. The terrible belief of these two dangerous groups is that for Buhari to rise, Jonathan must fall, and for Jonathan to rise, Buhari must fall. This ridiculous mindset is replayed in all states where the succeeding governor is not of the same party as his predecessor, or where they are of the same party but have fallen out. It happened when Mr Peter Obi took over from Dr Chris Ngige in Anambra State, when Mr Ayodele Fayose took over from Dr Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti State, when Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau took over from Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso in Kano State, etc. One wonders, for example, if it is not possible for Ngige and Obi to be praised on areas where they did well and criticised on areas where they did poorly. This bad precedent in our national politics was set during Jonathan’s tenure: his opponents criticised even the air he breathed, all in an effort to get him out. Every achievement he recorded was denied or lampooned, while every negative story was celebrated, including Boko Haram attacks. President Olusegun Obasanjo and President Umaru Yar’Adua were not treated like that. Unfortunately, Jonathan’s supporters are now paying Buhari and his supporters in their own coin. Nigeria loses in all this, because there is a difference between opposition politics and hate politics. One wonders if there is any person that is so bad that he does not have any drop of goodness in him. Like el-Rufai and Ikpeazu said, Buhari does not need these fanatical trolls who make a mockery of governance by hyping even the ludicrous as feats and attacking anybody who says any non-positive thing about him. What he needs are those who will analyse his actions and plans and tell him the merits and demerits of such and point him towards success. If Buhari succeeds on social media and the mainstream media but fails in real life, it is Nigeria’s loss. If he succeeds, all Nigerians gain – including those who praise him and those who criticise him. Like in marketing, the best friend of a brand owner is not the customer who always commends the brand or keeps quiet even when not satisfied, but the customer who complains any time he is not satisfied. That is the customer that provides the brand owner the relevant and critical feedback that helps him to reinvent his brand and stay competitive and alive. Those who praise the brand ceaselessly or keep quiet when things are not alright help to kill the brand. They are the dangerous customers that a brand owner must be wary off. http://www.today.ng/blog/08116229-may-god-save-buhari-from-praise-singers/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |
A group, Osun Stakeholders, on Monday in Lagos delivered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) a petition against the Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, urging the anti-graft agency to investigate an alleged financial recklessness of the governor in the last five years. The petition dated August 10, 2015 and submitted at the EFCC’s Lagos office was titled: “Petition against Governor Rauf Aregbesola for financial recklessness, corruption, money laundering and fraudulent application of Osun State’s resources,” was signed by the conveners of the group, Messrs Niyi Owolade and Yinka Odumakin and addressed to the commission’s chairman. In the petition, a copy of which was made available to newsmen after it was submitted by Odumakin at the Commission’s Lagos office, the group called for a forensic audit of the Osun government accounts. The group, which bemoaned the series of loans obtained by the Aregbesola’s government, said that the petition was borne out of the resolution reached at its stakeholder’s summit held on July 23, 2015. Part of the petition read: “It is instructive to note that after the summit on Osun State on July 23, where the whistle was blown, Rauf Aregbesola gave another figure through one of his aides, Mr Semiu Okanlawon, now claiming that Osun State got N177 billion from Federation Account (not N108 billion again) and N27 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) (against N43 billion verifiable) totalling N204 billion instead of N317 billion. “Governor Aregbesola, three years ago, launched with fanfare, a computer project called Opon Imo through which N8.4 billion was squandered, yet there is no tablet in operation in the state, till today. “We are also aware that while salaries of members of staff remain unpaid, Governor Aregbesola has been drawing security votes in the region of N502 million every month. We request that these votes be audited to determine if same is truly being spent on security. “In view of the foregoing, it is clear that Rauf Aregbesola has mortgaged the future of the state. It is, therefore imperative that the EFCC get to the root of the financial scam committed by Aregbesola’s government. “It might be necessary to unveil the companies, who are beneficiaries of the white elephant projects embarked upon with these loans.” Addressing newsmen thereafter, Odumakin, assured that the group was poised to ensure that the EFCC wade into the alleged corruption, financial recklessness, among other vices that had characterised the regime of Aregbesola by investigating the governor and bring him to justice. http://tribuneonlineng.com/osun-stakeholders-drag-aregbesola-efcc-submit-petition |
While discussing the more than 78 million naira spent for maintenance on the former Governor Fashola’s personal website, Mr. Stanley Achonu, the Operations Lead for BudgIT Nigeria, told SaharaTV that more than 1.18 billion naira was spent on only six pedestrian bridges in Lagos. Babatunde Fashola, Lagos State Governor Mr. Achonu revealed during the interview that the outrageous 1.18 billion naira was spent for the pedestrian bridges on Lekki Expressway and added “by Monday our team members will need to see if they are constructing those bridges.” He added that, “I’m assuming as of now, that money has already been spent.” The BudgIT team also learned this past week that in 2014 more than “330 million naira [was] spent for work on the house of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State.” When asked whether BudgIT received explanation from the Lagos State government about this monumental waste, Mr. Achonu said “they don’t owe us any explanation…We don’t want to be contacted. They should contact the Lagosians whose money they used.” BudgIT is an independent organization which reviews and evaluates Federal and State budgets in Nigeria. They also review the procurement and commissioning of projects in Nigeria to enhance transparency and report on corruption. A video has surfaced online, showing the level of commitment former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi gave to he citizens of the oil-rich state in his 8 years as governor. The video, which was put together by an anonymous concerned citizen who gave his name as “Common Man, claims that between 2007 and 2013, Amaechi received the monthly sum of N14 billion, which is about almost N900 billion over the course of 6 years. The expository documentary also showed the state of social amenities left behind by Amaechi, especially as regards roads. The narrator, who is evidently unhappy about the state of things, takes a tour to several part of the capital, Port Harcourt. Some of the major roads cited in the video are the Akpajos Town road in Eleme Local Government Area; the East West Road, which Amaechi promised not to repair because according to him, it is a Federal Road and the Federal Government owes him N150 billion. Another sour highlight of the video was the Trans-Amadi industrial layout, an industrial hub where much of the state’s internally generate revenue is gotten from. http://www.thetrentonline.com/n864-billion-fraud-the-rotimi-amaechi-documentary-he-doesnt-want-you-to-watch-video-2/?utm_source=&utm_medium=facebook |

By Kayode Sesan, Yemi Adebowale New facts emerged Monday on the ordeal of Austin Okojie, the Akwa Ibom Resident Electoral Commissioner while in the custody of the DSS. Mr. Okojie was arrested two weeks ago, detained and tortured by the DSS, who only released him Saturday after 13 days in detention. He has been asked to report daily to the DSS office for further interrogation. BREAKING TIMES gathered that Okojie could barely walk or speak upon his release after being serially brutalized by the DSS. “They were interrogating him about his relationship with the PDP in Akwa-Ibom State and former Governor Akpabio. He was tied to a chair for 13 days and tortured to confess that he connived with PDP to rig the elections. At the time they released him, he could barely even talk or stand well”, a family source who pleaded anonymity spoke to BREAKING TIMES on Sunday. “The desperation by the DSS to get Okojie to indict former Governor Akpabio of Akwa-Ibom State and the PDP in Akwa-Ibom State may have forced them to employ drastic measures in securing a confession from Okojie”, an informed security source told BREAKING TIMES on Monday. Okojie, it was gathered, however stood his grounds refusing to grant false evidence during the DSS interrogation. Okojie was only released after severe pressure from the PDP and civil society advocates. A group under the auspices of the Public Interest Lawyers League had accused the DSS of unduly harassing the Akwa-Ibom Resident Electoral Commissioner. Since May 29, 2015, the DSS under President Muhammadu Buhari has quickly earned a public reputation as the secret police machine of the ruling APC government used to harass and intimidate the opposition and perceived enemies of Buhari’s government. Recently, the Abuja and Sokoto residences of the National Security Adviser under former President Jonathan, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) was invaded by officials of the DSS on trumped up suspicions that he was a “security risk”. After they spent several days ransacking his house, the DSS made a discovery of a few luxury cars and about 7 assault rifles in his residence. The Chief Security Officer to former President Jonathan, Mr. Gordon Obua was not so lucky. He was arrested and detained by the DSS while being denied access to his lawyers and doctors. News of a frail and weak Obua’s possible death in the hands of the DSS forced the DSS to publicly produce him alive and immediately released him from their custody without charges. In a similar vein, an informed security source disclosed to BREAKING TIMES on Sunday that election petitions tribunal judges in Akwa-Ibom State are being summoned to the DSS office on President Buhari’s orders at odd hours of the night with the aim of compromising the outcome of the tribunal rulings in favour of the ruling APC party. This is coming after the Akwa-Ibom election petitions tribunal was brazenly and surreptitiously moved from Akwa Ibom to Abuja, interfering with the independence of the process. Akwa-Ibom State is considered extremely attractive by political power-blocs based on its huge oil revenue allocations from the Federation account, hence the usual desperation between the PDP and APC in the battle to win the state. “The APC’s desperation for power has made them to reject the electoral results from the oil rich States like Akwa-Ibom and Rivers considering the revenue that these States generate”, the PDP recently insinuated in reaction to its perceived moves by the APC to compromise the process. But the APC has quickly dismissed the claim citing mass irregularities and INEC complicity and compromise in the outcome of the elections in those states. In the Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial elections, Mr Udom Emmanuel of the PDP scored 996, 071 votes to defeat his APC opponent, Umana Umana who polled a paltry 89, 865 votes. http://www.thebreakingtimes.com/akwa-ibom-inec-rec-tortured-for-13-days-in-dss-custody/ |
