By Ariyo Raphael Dare ATOYEDid @Omojuwa really understand the implications of taking back all the evils he planted and watered in the name of freedom guaranteed by the social media? As a young unrestrained man, full of pride, I can only urge him to continue without looking back because the evils he planted are too much for him to take back. They are just too much for a chap of his age to swallow, except if he can banish himself to the forest of the gods and surrender to the ‘irumoles’ to protect him.The social evils propagated and promoted by @Omojuwa and his ilk, have formed a social-circle transformed into a social virus that is fast destroying our social bond. They deliberately created this mess with their ring leader who is now a governor. They held meetings and deviced evil plots to undermine this nation in the name of fighting a President and his people. They even called him the sponsor of Boko Haram.Don’t get me wrong, I have no power to judge others. I believe God can forgive anybody including the leaders of ISIS and BH if they repent sincerely. But God cannot and will never be mocked. There is a huge difference between seeking a genuine repentance/reconciliation and a deceptive redemption to achieve an interest. Nothing suggests he has changed in the era of ‘change’. He was never a change-agent in the first place; he has his own agenda.@Omojuwa and his gang did cross the red line and committed social sacrilege in the name of advancing vanity. His “friends and parents†on twitter (one of them – ‘a-near-pastor’ who moralises regularly in deceit and over a contrived cause), watched and encouraged him to do more. They saw nothing bad in him calling a sitting President and his wife “pig†or even a worse name. He still recently called him a retard. They pushed him to dance naked in ignominy. The consequences will come.He abused elders old enough to be his grandparents and disrespected everyone that did not share his view. Indeed, he is a young man obsessed with social media fame unrestrained. Together with his gang, they acted like lords to their gullible followers and as folks who got no elders around to counsel them. It took those not in support of their wicked onslaught several months to regroup and fight back. In the process, abuse begets abuse, nearly everything was reciprocated afterward.I am not going to exonerate myself and will not cunningly ask God to forgive me in deceit. I am ready for posterity to judge me and pay for my deeds. I believe in punishment and reward. Make no mistake about it; we are all going to reap all that we have sown. Time can only differ but time will tell. The late Sage, Obafemi Awolowo of the blessed memory counselled thus: ‘there is no overdraft in the bank of nature, whatever you sow, you shall reap’. We must all be prepared to face the consequences of our roles. Vengeance is with God.Before now, I had deliberately restrained myself from joining issues with @Omojuwa even when in the moment of his unbridled tweets; he called me gay (in a picture with @MrAyeDee). But his recent tweets which a friend brought to my attention, alerted me to write this piece for posterity. Let him know that he cannot take the public space for a ride. The public space could be harmless but on a day of reckoning, it will serve justice. It is preposterous to just wake up and tweet forgiveness with arrogance because you have a hidden interest to pursue. It will never resonate with the law of natural justice. My pain today is that @Omojuwa and his misguided folks are the reasons PMB will suffer huge distractions and massive heat on the social media. It has started already. They cultivated the grounds for the current reality in our polity. One thing is given; they will always attract bad image for PMB and draw negative publicity for any master. They have broken the social cord and we are left with an eye for an eye. I just hope Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu are prepared for the task ahead.I made a passionate appeal in some tweets, when I saw the name-tags some folks lined up to use to degrade PMB. It is a mess really and shame to those who started this mess. @Omojuwa and his gang, took advantage of their huge followers to drive an unprecedented hate campaign far before the election. To make his ignoble act looks like a campaign period sin, was a big deception. Indeed a contrived apology without apology. I don’t think anybody is against @Omojuwa pursuing his interest, but not at the cost of public deception. If God gives you peace and you are stable, it is because HE wants you to use it to stabilise others in crisis. If you have huge twitter followers, there are better things to do with such an opportunity than using it to abuse and incite, and in the process denigrate your own nation. You don’t need to like the face of a leader to be responsible, we are all duty bound to support our country and pray for the leadership. Constructive criticisms are allowed but should not be borne out of hatred. Nothing destroys more than the spirit of hate.@Omojuwa can consider reading the Books of Proverb and Ecclesiastes to fully understand the folly of his actions. These books should be enough to lead him to commence a walk towards redemption, if he sincerely seeks it. http://www.thebreakingtimes.com/omojuwas-recklessness-buharis-cross/

When I first heard that a state governor had appointed a “Senior Special Adviser Special Assistant (SSA) on Time Keeping and Scheduling, I said to myself “…Oh no! You have got to be kidding me!” If you haven’t heard that the Governor of Niger State,Alhaji Abubakar Sanni Bello, has a Special Adviser for timekeeping…then you’ve “carried last”. I am yet to get over the idea as to why any government official would want a special adviser for timekeeping and scheduling purposes. If you tell me that the state government wants to get a consultant to come train civil servants on Time Management etc, fine by me; but a Senior Special Adviser just for Time Keeping? Biko nu…how is that a job kwanu? The Special Adviser will now have assistant, P.A., Secretary, Protocol Officer, and every other thing that comes with being a “Senior Special Adviser.” Oh wait, here comes the Chief Press Secretary to explain why the Governor requires a Time-Keeper….I think I hear him say that the move was to ensure that there is no ‘African Time’ in government business. He said, Therefore, if time is money, we want to do all we can to save it, so that we can employ this valuable resource in working for the people. And if we’re going to divorce ourselves from the wastefulness of the past (e.g. African Time), we must do something emphatic to bring about that change. This includes engaging someone to keep our governor on schedule, the way it’s done elsewhere Wait, so the Governor needs someone to keep him “on schedule”. An alarm clock would have been LOADS more cheaper…Nigerians, I swear I need to change jobs. Who knows a state governor here in Nigeria that can’t keep to schedule? I won’t mind a pay-cut sef! http://www.that1960chick.com/2015/06/03/did-you-know-that-the-governor-of-niger-state-just-appointed-an-ssa-to-help-him-keep-to-time/ |

Zimbabwe’ Information minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo while reacting to Sahara Reporters attack on Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe when he came visiting to Nigeria to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Mohammodu Buhari said; ” The “journalists” or whoever they are were not asking questions but were making fools of themselves & their country.” Not done yet, Professor Jonathan Moyo continued: “Was Mugabe ambushed by these Nigerian “journalists”? Yes. Did they humiliate him? No, they humiliated themselves. While also reacting to how the Sahara Reporters Crewgot access to the VVIP area, he asked; “That was a VVIP area. The question is who let those would-be Nollywood actors there? He also went on to label the Sahara Reporters Crew as “Political activists masquerading as Journalists who imagine their country as a model of democracy”. Ouch. A dig at Nigeria’s democracy. “They were making silly statements which proved that it was a preplanned onslaught on a visiting head of state. “The so called reporters of Sahara TV are overheard asking for Pres Zuma apparently to give him a similar treatment. Professor Moyo concluded by asking: “Are they journalists or Boko Haram? http://www.opinionriver.com/sahara-reporters-made-a-fool-of-themselves-and-their-country-zimbabwe-information-minister/ |

There is tension in some parts of Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, Monday morning following reports of plan by the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers to hold a sitting inside the House of Assembly complex. At the time of filing this report at about 11.15am, suspected thugs have been mobilized to the vicinity of the Assembly complex where they are “waiting” for the lawmakers. A visit by our reporter to some parts of the city including the House of Assembly area and adjoining streets showed the thugs milling around, standing in groups in some locations. Although the thugs were not allowed near the House of Assembly complex by armed policemen keeping vigil in the area, the hoodlums were observing events from safe distance. Some of the places where the thugs can be found include an uncompleted petrol station at Awedele Road junction, an uncompleted block of the State Secretariat complex at the back of the Assembly complex, under a tree beside Ekiti Parapo Square and the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat near NTA Ado Ekiti. Riot policemen deployed to the area were conducting stop-and-and-search operation and barricaded some portions of NTA Road, State Secretariat Road and the road leading to the Judges’ Quarters. Vehicles belonging to drivers’ unions were parked in the vicinity of the Government House with the unions’ members standing by. Bonfires were lit in places like Irona/Isato junction, Ijigbo Roundabout and Omisanjana junction. Commercial and social activities were going on at press time. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/tension-as-thugs-invade-ekiti-assembly-vicinity/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter |

By Adams Cooke The article by the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN and the new Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, published last week in the Financial Times, made fascinating reading not least because of his amazing ability to reach conclusions totally at variance with those reached by the writers of the forensic report themselves, Pricewaterhouse Coopers. This is a trait that has sadly followed the former Governor of the CBN. During the time of the whistle-blowing, public opinion was summarised on a television breakfast programme in February 2014, by two leading Nigerian lawyers. Liborous Oshomah was of the opinion that the government fell out of favour with Sanusi because the suspended governor’s tenure was characterised by crisis and inconsistencies. Oshomah stressed that many of the decisions taken by Sanusi, while in office, were controversial. He mentioned the issue of the banking crisis which resulted in several banks folding up and thousands of workers being laid off, stressing that banks are still unable to recover from it. While commenting on the controversies exposed by Sanusi, Oshomah said the suspended governor waited until the near end of his tenure to hit the government he was a part and parcel of. On his part, Kenneth Odidika described Sanusi as a “very brilliant man who seemed not to appreciate the enormity of the responsibilities of the office he occupied.” Odidika went ahead to label the suspended governor a ‘talkative’ whose good diction and spoken English and “musical voice” is mere theatrics from Hollywood. He said: For a Central Bank governor to be in every forum, talking both about the economy and all things that are not related to the economy, was unbecoming of a Central Bank Governor.” He added: “It is rare to see a Central Bank governor, anywhere in the world, speak as inconsistently as Mr. Sanusi.” Entitled, “Questions on Nigeria’s stolen billions,” Sanusi was his usual pompous, prescriptive self: praising his personal efforts at blowing the whistle on the alleged $20 billion scam at the NNPC, rewriting history and acting as prosecutor, judge and jury. “Nigerians did not vote for an amnesty for anyone. The lines of investigation suggested by this audit need to be pursued. Any officials found responsible for involvement in this apparent breach of trust must be charged,” he said. He was wrong One hopes that his royal highness is also ready to face the truth, as he also cannot hide under amnesty. The truth is that he was wrong when he first wrote his letter to the Presidency insisting that $49 billion was missing. He was wrong when he reversed the figure to $12 billion and he was certainly wrong with his insistence that $20 billion was not remitted to the Federation Account. Every panel that has investigated this matter had reached a different conclusion than that reached by Mr. Sanusi, yet he clings to his rather unsupported allegations. The inter-ministerial committee that first tried to unravel the mystery noted a few discrepancies but said no fraud was involved. The Senate committee chaired by Senator Ahmed Makarfi discovered no wrong doings and concluded after exhaustive sessions that money was not stolen. Needless to say, that report was wholly adopted by the upper legislative chamber. However, when Mr. Sanusi and other conspiracy theorists wouldn’t let the matter lie, one of the leading auditors in the world, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, were contracted to investigate. What the report says So what did the report say? In an analysis by Edward Owono on May 11, 2015 in the Tribune, PwC found that there was indeed a shortfall between the amount ($69.34billion) the NNPC received from crude oil lifting and total cash ($50.81 billion) that the NNPC remitted to the Federation Account for the period January 2012 to July 2013. However, the report then goes on to state clearly that the “NNPC has provided information on the difference leading to potential excess remittance of $0.74billion”. In other words, NNPC actually paid more, NOT LESS, than what was due from it into the Federation Account! The report showed that NNPC ran its expenses from the money it received from crude oil and remitted the balance to the Federation Account in accordance with the law which set it up. PwC found that the expenses NNPC actually ran were more than it had deducted from crude oil receipts. So on that ground, it was the FGN that owed NNPC money and not vice versa. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi former CBN Gov now Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II Sanusi Lamido Sanusi former CBN Gov now Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II The PwC audit report, however, finds that there is some money that the NNPC has not duly paid to the Federation Account. This is not from the crude oil lifting that sparked the CBN governor’s missive. Rather, it is from two quite unrelated heads, namely $1.75 billion as signature bonus for divested assets and $0.47 billion for unpaid self-assessed taxes and royalties of NPDC (a wholly-owned NNPC subsidiary). After offsetting the $0.74 billion that NNPC had overpaid on crude oil lifting into the Federation Account, the net balance owed by NNPC to the Federation Account was $1.48 billion. Some challenging accounting So did the report say that any money had been misappropriated or anyone corrupt? No. It attested to some challenging accounting but did not highlight any fraud or monies that could not be accounted for. Even where the report said NNPC was challenged to explain NNPC’s selling of DPK to bulk DPK marketers at N40.90 rather than the regulated ex-depot price of N34.51, it immediately provided the explanation of the miscellaneous charges (including bridging, transport and administration) that accounted for the difference. The report also said that given the amount deducted from crude oil lifting to defray NNPC expenses in the audited period and the fall of crude oil prices by over 60 per cent since June 2014, NNPC’s ability to fund its operations was in peril since NNPC had no independent sources of revenue, other than from crude oil lifting receipts, meet expenses. The report recommended that the “NNPC model of operation must be urgently reviewed and restructured, as the current model which had been in existence since the creation of the Corporation cannot be sustained”. This is a point that was made clear by the minister in the first few months of her appointment sparking the review of the Petroleum Industry Bill that had been sitting in abeyance for 12 years before her appointment. The PIB is still sitting in the “House” awaiting passage into law. Unrealistic weight of subsidy payments The minister also mooted the unrealistic weight of the subsidy payments from the federation accounts, all in a bid to stem corruption inherent within the system, introduce accountability and transparency; but she was met by a strong opposition and protest as she touched on a “sore point”. Many appear to have a short memory about these valiant attempts by the minister to bring sense into a flawed system. Yet she seems to be the one many point fingers to when a perceived loophole is identified. So to summarise, the report actually highlighted that the NNPC seemed to operate within its constitutive law by deducting money from crude oil lifting to defray its expenses. The report confirmed that the expenses so deducted accounted for the difference between the amounts that NNPC received and the amounts that NNPC paid to the Federation Account. The report did say that the law should be changed so that NNPC pays all the money it receives to the Federation Account (without deductions) and looks for other (commercial) ways to meet its expenses. But the report clearly acknowledged that the current model had been in existence since the NNPC was created. The report did not say that any law had been broken. The report definitely did not allege corruption on the part of any party, person or body. It did not mention the minister in any unfavorable light or even insinuate any wrongdoing on her part or departure from the legal and legitimate norm. The shortfall in remittance that the report found was a mere accounting event. The money is not missing and the minster had since instructed the NNPC to make the necessary remittance. So, why is there still such sectional aggression to prove that somehow the PwC report indicts the minister in some way? Questions about entire subsidy regime There is no doubt that there are questions about the entire subsidy regime. Many would in fact agree that the unremitted funds could have been put to better use. But as the NNPC Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Ohi Alegbe, said recently, neither the minister nor the NNPC could be blamed for not following a law that was never gazzetted. “The process of implementing the Presidential directive was not followed through by the Minister of Petroleum Resources at that time as required by law, which technically meant that kerosene subsidy was not removed. “Why the royal father appears hell-bent on hanging a tag of corruption on the Corporation even when all the inquiries into his allegation of unremitted funds have proved otherwise remains a mystery to us,” Mr. Alegbe added. There is a point at which Mr Sanusi ought to have let this matter lie. He crossed that point long ago and he seems determined to keep going until his viewpoint is vindicated. It is his prerogative to use his time as he pleases – though one had thought that as the emir of one of Nigeria’s largest city, he would have little time for waging his vendetta against a woman minister. He has, however, succeeded in taking charge of the narrative of his suspension from the CBN which, according to the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, was due to the following: ‘’The persistent refusal and negligence to comply with public procurement act in the procurement practices of the CBN; unlawful expenditure by the CBN on intervention projects across the country, deploying huge sums of money as the CBN did under the watch of Mallam Sanusi without appropriation and outside the CBN’s statutory mandate.” Readers will do well to remember the real reason behind the royal father’s exit. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/05/sanusis-misreading-of-forensic-report/#sthash.2uOi06H8.dpuf |

The Association of Resident Doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Osogbo on Tuesday staged a public protest over nonpayment of their six months salaries by the Osun State Government. The doctors, who were armed with placards marched peacefully through some streets in Osogbo to the Osun State House of Assembly while condemning the refusal of the state Governor Rauf Aregbesola to make payment of workers including doctors a priority. Some of the placards read, ‘ Pay doctors’ salaries; ” Doctors are hungry and we are being owed six months salaries. The President of the ARD, LAUTECH, Osogbo Dr. Olalekan Ajayi, while addressing journalists during the protest lamented the nonpayment of doctors’ salaries for the last six months. He said, ” We are being owed six months salaries. Despite this we are discharging our duties to the people. We cannot continue to work without pay. ” We are hungry!, We want the governor to address the issue of backlog of salaries being owed doctors and other categories of workers.” Some of the medical doctors who are observing their one year internship programme at the hospital also lamented the crisis caused by the nonpayment of doctors salaries. The Nigeria Medical Association in the state had on May 1, accused the governor of deliberately punishing doctors by refusing to pay their salaries. The Chairman of NMA Action Committee in Osun State, Dr. R.A. Adebayo and Dr. Adeola Ajibare, said in a letter written to the governor, that it was unfortunate that the governor, having collected allocation up to March, 2015, had refused to pay doctors and other categories of workers. The letter read in part, “Despite the non-payment of six months salaries to doctors and other civil servants in Osun, contractors and political office holders have been the beneficiaries of the available revenue accrued to our state from the federation account. “Our association therefore concluded that the non-payment of six months salaries to our members as well as other civil servants in our dear state is not a matter of government inability but unwillingness to pay.” In a similar vein, the Medical and Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria at LAUTECH had also condemned the nonpayment of doctors’ salaries. The chairman of MDCAN, Dr. Kassim Adebayo and his secretary, Dr. Tokunbo Olajumoke, in a letter written to the governor in April condemned the nonpayment of their salaries. The doctors stated that they had given the government an ultimatum and would not hesitate to obey the directive of the national body of the association at the expiration of the ultimatum. The letter read, ” Despite not declaring any strike, we condemn the nonpayment of salaries of workers in the employment of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, in the last six months and the non remittance of deductions from workers salaries even prior to the non payment of salaries. - See more at: http://www.punchng.com/news/osun-doctors-protest-nonpayment-of-six-months-salaries/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter#sthash.NWQL6ESo.dpuf |
…Says We’ve Been Vindicated The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, says its earlier and persistent alarm on the looting spree and other illegal activities by the out-going Governor Amaechi, his family members, particularly, his wife, Judith, and aides in the Government House and other government institutions has again been justified. The PDP, commending the men and officers of the Rivers State Command of the Nigerian Police, who intercepted the truck carrying looted items from the Government House, Port Harcourt yesterday, Sunday, May 10, 2015, says it is unhappy over this illegal and criminal development which seems unabated and unchecked thereby allowing the perpetrators to have a field day looting State-owned facilities and huge funds. The Party considers its position vindicated with the latest seizure of a Toyota Camry Car with Registration Number: KRK 340 AA, belonging to one Mr. Chant, which was used in escorting a Mercedes Benz Truck with Registration Number: LA 086 MA, carrying several items from the Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt, on Sunday, May 10, 2015, at about 7pm. Items looted and moved out under the instruction of the out-going Governor (Amaechi) in the truck include, among others, three big Safe containing large sums of money, domestic utensils, sound-proof generators, computers, fridges, foreign furniture, electrical and electronic gadgets etc. The PDP describes this looting galore by Gov Amaechi and family members as capable of wrecking the State and the people, calling on the security agencies and the people to be proactive and rise against this unholy act before it gets out of hand. The PDP calls on Gov Amaechi, his Wife (Judith) and all officials of the out-going APC government to search their conscience, and desist from running the State aground before leaving office, saying its eyes are open on checkmating their activities until the final whistle is blown on May 29, 2015, when a new government will certainly be formed in the State.
