The Kano State Government has budgeted N220m for the implementation of the Ramadan free feeding programme in the state. The Chairman, Committee on Ramadan Free Feeding Programme, Alhaji Usman Bala, who said this in Kano on Thursday, explained that the state government had concluded arrangements for the commencement of the free feeding from Wednesday. Bala, who is the Principal Private Secretary to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, also said that the state government had increased the number of feeding centres from 120 to 175 and that the centres had since been provided with the necessary food items. He said, “The food items, which include rice, beans, millet, flour, cooking oil and dates, among others have been provided at each of the centres. Each centre will have a five-man coordinating committee in addition to six cooks, who are saddled with the responsibility of preparing the meal. “We also engaged the services of some sanitary inspectors, who will always ensure that the environment is clean and tidy.” |
"Tinubu Behind Call For Buhari’s Resignation", Northern Youths Allege Now, it is a case of APC Southwest and APC North This roforofo fight sef, wey hin go turn to bloodshed, I no go lose my sleep over am. Now now now, dem APC don get divide - North versus Southwest. Ka Chineke mezie okwu a! BY FUNKE ADEBISI JUNE 18, 2015 Some youths in the northern part of Nigeria under the aegis of Northern Youths Movement (NYM) have accused All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, Senator Bola Tinubu of being the brain behind the call for the resignation of President Mohammadu Buhari, saying Tinubu was gradually unfolding his actual agenda to hijack the presidency. A group, which called itself The PDP Media Watchdog, had reacted to the statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari, declaring and admitting that his age will affect his performance rate as President of Nigeria by urging the president to resign from office. Already, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had disowned the group, saying it was unknown to the party and had no connection whatsoever with the party at any level. In its reaction, the NYM in a statement signed by its Protem Chairman, Mallam Ishaya Jato alleged that the press statement credited to The PDP Media Watchdog actually emanated from Tinubu’s media office in Lagos. The northern youths said the statement was released to gauge the pulse of the public on Tinubu’s larger agenda of installing his crony, Prof Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) as the president of Nigeria. NYM disclosed that it was part of the agenda to cut short Buhari’s tenure that Tinubu desperately wanted to hijack the Senate and House of Representatives by installing his cronies as Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. “The comment made in South Africa by President Buhari, regarding his age was deliberately hyped by Tinubu’s hatchet men in the media and the call for the president’s registration was aimed at gauging the reaction of Nigerians. “Also, we are aware that Tinubu’s camp is working on the possibility of President Buhari not completing his term, either due to failing health or death. “However, we youths in north are aware of his (Tinubu) plot against the north and we wish to tell him that we are watching. “He has failed in his attempt to hijack the National Assembly and use it to impeach President Buhari and we want to assure Tinubu and his cronies that President Buhari will not only complete his tenure, he will go for second term,” NYM said. |

The source disclosed that the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, is disposed to all the demands by Gbajabiamila and is asking Dogara to concede. He said the party has penciled down Gbajabiamila as the House Majority Leader, noting that everything was being done to appease his camp. However, the Speaker is said to have rejected all the demands. As a result of this hardline stance, the APC leadership, the source said, may take the matter before President Muhammadu Buhari this week. He said, “there are plans to present the matter before the President and the leader of our party. He is in a position to broker an amicable resolution between the two camps” I THOUGHT ONE LIE LIE MOHAMMED SAID BUHARI IS NOT THE LEADER OF THE PARTY. WHY ARE THEY NOW RUNNING TO HIM. adsonstone:The first name of the Benin Empire, since its creation some time in the first millenium (i.e, before year 1000) CE, was Igodomigodo, as called by its own inhabitants. Their ruler was called Ogiso.[3] Nowadays, nearly 36 known Ogiso are accounted for as rulers of this first form of the state. According to the Edo oral tradition, during the reign of the last Ogiso, his son and heir apparent, Ekaladerhan, was banished from Igodomigodo as a result of one of the Queens having deliberately changed an oracle message to the Ogiso. Prince Ekaladerhan was a powerful warrior and well loved. On leaving Benin he travelled westernly to the land of the Yoruba where he became king and renamed himself Izoduwa, which is now corrupt to Oduduwa by Yorubas. Most Edo cultures and festival ethnics are now practiced by Yorubas such as Ishango, Ogun, Festac of Idia Mother of Oba Esigie of Benin. Also most foods of the Edo are now consumed by the Yorubas, such as Iyan, Eman, Usi, Ighiawo and Ogi. Most current cities in West Nigeria are a mix of Edo and Yoruba, such as Ekiti, Kogi, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo and Lagos itself. On the death of his father, the last Ogiso, a group of Benin Chiefs led by Chief Oliha came to Ife, pleading with Oduduwa (the Ooni) to return to Igodomigodo (later known as Benin City in the 15th century during Oba Ewuare) to ascend the throne. Oduduwa's reply was that a ruler cannot leave his domain but he had seven sons and would ask one of them to go back to become the next king there. Eweka I was the first 'Oba' or king of the new dynasty after the end of the era of Ogiso. He changed the ancient name of Igodomigodo to Edo. Centuries later, in 1440, Oba Ewuare, also known as Ewuare the Great, came to power and turned the city-state into an empire. It was only at this time that the administrative centre of the kingdom began to be referred to as Ubinu after the Itsekhiri word and corrupted to Bini by the Itsekhiri, Edo, Urhobo living together in the royal administrative centre of the kingdom. The Portuguese who arrived in 1485 would refer to it as Benin and the centre would become known as Benin City and its empire Benin Empire. The Ancient Benin Empire, as with the Oyo Empire which eventually gained political ascendancy over even Ile-Ife, gained political strength and ascendancy over much of what is now Mid-Western and Western Nigeria, with the Oyo Empire bordering it on the west, the Niger river on the east, and the northerly lands succumbing to Fulani Muslim invasion in the North. Interestingly, much of what is now known as Western Iboland and even Yorubaland was conquered by the Benin Kingdom in the late 19th century - Agbor (Ika), Akure, Owo and even the present day Lagos Island, which was named "Eko" meaning "War Camp" by the Bini. The present day Monarchy of Lagos Island did not come directly from Ile-Ife, but from Bini, and this can be seen up till in the attire of the Oba and High Chiefs of Lagos, and in the street and area names of Lagos Island which are Yoruba corruptions of Bini names (Idumagbo, Idumota, Igbosere etc.). Other parts of the present day Lagos State were under Ijebu, and later Edo now conquer Ijebu and enlarge is domain to Dahomey (tossed between the Dahomey Kingdom, with its seat in present day Republic of Benin, and the Bini Kingdom). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benin_Empire PROUDLY EDO |

GOOD ADVICE FROM DELE MOMODU

With the election of Bukola Saraki as the Senate President and Yakubu Dogara as the Speaker of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, all the nation’s six geo-political zones have benefitted from power sharing in the current dispensation. The zones are North West, North East, North Central, South West, South East and South-South. While Mr. Saraki hails from Kwara state in the the North Central zone, Mr. Dogara is from Bauchi State in the North East zone. Both are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress. The newly-elected Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, is an indigene of Enugu State in the South East zone though he is a member of the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party. The Deputy Speaker of the House, Yusuf Lasun, is from Osun State in the South West. The president, Mohammed Buhari is from Katsina State in the North West zone while his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo, hails from Ogun State in the South West zone. The National Chairman of the APC, John Oyegun hails from Edo State in the South-South zone. Of the lot, Mr. Ekweremadu appears to be the luckiest. He was not in contention for the position until the last minute when he was drafted into the race by his party to challenge Senator Ali Ndume who was expected to run with Mr. Saraki. The South East zone where the deputy senate president comes from did not produce a single senator on the platform of the APC. All the 15 senate and almost all the 38 House of Representatives seats in the five states in the zone are of the PDP. This left the zone with no hope of producing a top political office holder in the APC administration. Going by the zoning arrangement believed to have been agreed earlier by the party’s leadership, the South East ought to have produced one of the two presiding officers of the National Assembly. But that possibility had been ruled out when the party did not win any seat during the March 28 National Assembly election. In a nation where ethnic consideration is given the prime place in political appointments, without doubt, Mr. Ekweremadu’s election for the third time for that position will particularly give a sense of belonging to the Igbo race known for its complaint of marginalisation. The South West on its part produced the vice president and the deputy speaker. In the last dispensation, the zone had no representative among the top six topmost political positions. Although the speakership of the House was zoned to the zone with Mulikat Akande from Oyo State as the PDP’s preferred choice, Aminu Tambuwal from Sokoto State in the North West and Emeka Ihedioha from Imo State in the South East zone rebelled against the party’s zoning arrangement and present themselves as candidates for the positions of speaker and deputy speaker, respectively. With the emergence of Mr. Tambuwal as Speaker, North West produced occupants of two of the offices, the other being the vice presidential slot held by Namadi Sambo from Kaduna State. Apart from the zonal balancing, the election of the new presiding officers of the federal parliament also achieved religious equation. While Messrs Buhari, Saraki and Lasun are Muslims, Messrs Osinbajo, Ekweremadu and Dogara are Christians just as Mr. Oyegun. In the previous dispensation (2011-2015), of the four presiding officers of the National Assembly, only Mr. Tambuwal belonged to the Islamic faith. The then Senate President, Messrs. David Mark, his deputy, Ekweremadu and Ihedioha are all Christians. The president at the time, Goodluck Jonathan, is a Christian while Mr. Sambo is a Muslim. Had Messrs Lawan and Gbajabiamila emerged as Senate President and Speaker, the two chambers would have been headed by Muslims. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/184753-saraki-dogaras-election-balances-power-equation-among-nigerias-geo-political-zones.html |
Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo has advised President Muhammodu Buhari not to take APC South West, Bola Ahmed Tinubu too serious. The message was sent out on Wednesday, when the former President urged the incumbent President not to be persuaded by Tinubu’s bitterness on the victory of Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively. Obasanjo said; “How can Tinubu be speaking on the interest of the party as if he owns the party? Are the winners (Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara) not APC members again? APC is not a personal property of anyone. The party belongs to everybody and belongs to no single person. “I will therefore urge the Mr. President to dwell little on the hot agitations of the aggrieved leaders and the Senators-elect. If APC as a political party is heading to court, fine. But we should know that no kind of intimacy can follow after leaving the court. And I believe you all know what that means in Yoruba culture and belief.” Lex-President Obasanjo, also condemned the moves of the party to challenge the victory of Senator Bukola Saraki and Hon. Yakubu Dogara, as Senate President and Speaker of House of Representatives respectively. He said, “the action will amount to one pulling down his house because of unwanted occupants. Ex-President went on to advice Tinubu and his band of bitter-men to swallow the bitter pill with courage as party men. He added, “The deed has been done. The party cannot shy away from correcting some anomalies in the processes that produced the duo as Senate President and Speaker. http://www.opinionriver.com/dont-take-tinubu-too-serious-ex-president-olusegun-obasanjo-to-president-buhari/ |

Members Allegedly Received $5000 Each Amos Dunia, Per Second News --Abuja - The shadow election conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC), for its sole candidate for the Speaker of the House of Representatives is currently facing allegations of inducement. This is just as it was gathered that former Governor of Lagos State and one of the national leaders of the APC, Asiwaju Ahemd Tinubu may have relocated to Abuja in an effort to ensure the election of one of his political godsons Hon Femi Gbajabiamila as Speaker on Tuesday. Tinubu is also believed to have open up channels of discussions and dialogue with state caucuses of the opposition PDP members with a view to break their ranks since the PDP members constitute a strong base for Dogara’s aspiration for Speakership. Per Second News gathered from some sources close to some of the members-elect that a top member of the party pumped in money that was used to induce members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) led by the party’s national chairman chief John Oyegun. Information pieced together by Per Second News point to a direction that about N2 billion may have exchange hands between one of the national leaders of the party allegedly from the South-west zone and party officials on one side and members-elect on the other. One of the members told our correspondent on condition of anonymity that; “We were promised $5000 each to vote for Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila in the mock election. We were equally told that each member will be given another $5000 ahead of the Tuesday’s election. ”It was gathered that money was shared to both members-elect of the 8th House and national leadership of the party on Friday night ahead of the Saturday mock election http://www.persecondnews.com/index.php/psn-news/item/3749-exposed-n2bn-bribery-allegation-trails-apc-speakership-primaries |
Senator Bukola Saraki today described Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as a 'mere commissioner'. A truce meeting called on Monday by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been boycotted by Senator Bukola Saraki, one of the party’s top contenders for the presidency of the Senate. Senator Saraki boycotted the meeting after reportedly telling party leaders that as a former governor he could not attend a meeting summoned by a ‘mere commissioner’, referring to Professor Yemi Osinbajo, whose previous public office was as Commissioner of Justice in Lagos State. Saraki then became a Senator, while Osinbajo is now the Vice President.Following Saraki’s snub, Prof. Osinbajo didn’t bother to attend the meeting, but the party met with its elected lawmakers, with some of Saraki’s earlier supporters joining the meeting. http://saharareporters.com/2015/06/08/senator-saraki-boycotts-apc-leadership-meeting-be-chaired-vp-osibanjo-says-he-could-not |
2014: The Year of Oil, its Crash, and Revenue Drop To cut the long story short, “our statutory allocation fell further to N19.3 billion and by which time we were already defaulting on some of our obligations on emoluments, which had also dropped to N22.4 billion, but still left us with a deficit of N3 billion.” Capture6 Before we continue, you’ll notice the asterisks. On ‘oagf’s site, the breakdown page for the states were absent. See here, here, and here. In fact, on BudgIT website, 2014 allocations ended in June. For the month with 2 asterisks, they made a mistake of writing “allocation of October 2013 shared in November 2014-here. Having done that, let’s get back to the numbers. Now, I know we do not have figures for 3 months, but is it not amazing that without those figures, summation still gives N27.4 billion! This is what I call amazeballs. It means we would have comfortably paid the wage bill of #22.4 billion. Before putting my pen back in the basket of strange accounting, brethren, let us summarize the first main point. If you add all the figures from the tables, the amount accruable to the State of Osun (excluding IGR) from the year of our Lord 2010-2014 is #174.1 billion. Capture7 I am not trying to elicit anything nor am I forming opposition. As @ayosogunro said, there are two types of people in a polity: party faithfuls’ and citizens. I belong to the latter. My submission is this; obviously, there are two different figures here. Which one is true and which is false? If we say we are progressives, conservatives, fencists, etc., there has to be a converging point for us where true data is given and relied on. This definitely is confusing and I am sure people will take sides but if we are to be #activecitizens, we need to start asking serious questions about the figures we are given. Personally, I think the governor owes us a breakdown of the allocations, debt profile and its servicing, government projects (completed, ongoing and untouched). This topic of salaries is a hot one as we are not the only one but if the figures above are true, then the governor of the State of Osun, @raufaregbesola, has no excuse. I conclude with the words of @elnathan when tweeps were comparing FIFA with Nigeria. With these few points of mine, I hope I have been able to confuse you and not convince you of the need to not be just commentators or “mentioners” but people who hold government officials accountable. Sorry sir, I do not want to plagiarize. Thanks for your time. http://www.thescoopng.com/samuel-ceezhar-a-serious-analysis-of-osun-states-allocation-and-wage-bill-the-two-versions/ |
By Samuel Ceezhar Permit me to use this medium to analyze the speech (here) of the governor of Osun-Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola-on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the inauguration of state house of assembly members. As we all know, speech analysis is the “in-thing” now, so, flow with me as we do this “trekking.” I intend to use available data for this exposition after which you can make an informed conclusion on our case. You see, I live and work in this great state and I know first-hand, the effects of the financial crisis. The figures are from our dear budgIT, oagf and fmf. It is straightforward: type in your stat(for budgIT) and year of choice, the year’s FAAC allocations will appear. For the other two, type in the month and year, the entire allocations for all the 3 tiers of government appears. I explain all this not because I think you are slow but knowing the social media peeps, one has to be thorough. The figure you really need from all those numbers is the NET ALLOCATION. I believe now, we can begin the exercise. ISSUES TO NOTE: The governor in his maiden address to the house said the total allocations to the state from FAAC, IGR and other accruals are equal to N204 billion. Of this, FAAC and others excluding IGR amount to N108.3 billion. 2010: The Year of Oranmiyan The governor came in in November and he declared the total allocation for the 2 months to be N4.2 billion. He also said the wage bill is N3.6 billion with a net gain of N573 million. From the table below whose figures are obtained from the aforementioned sites (at least, we should be able to trust @seunonigbinde’s numbers), you will see it is different. Capture The total here is N6.0 billion, no? If you deduct wage bill of N3.6 bn from N6 bn, ‘you go definitely get answer wey pass the net gain.’ I am not an accountant but I try to trust my calculator. 2011: The Beginning of the Rule Ogbeni said throughout this year, he got N29.9 billion, had a wage bill of N25.8 billion and a net gain of N4 billion- remember, his words, not mine. Again, let us turn to the trio: Capture2 Capture3 You will find that summing these gives you N48.2 billion with an awesome net gain well above the one above. Anyways, as they say on #Twitter street, #netgainnooni. 2012: The Year of the First of the Deficit My amiable, quintessential, articulate and ever conscious (sorry, I finished from OAU) Ogbeni said we got N28.4 billion and expended N31.6 billion leaving a deficit of N3.2 billion – the first of its kind. I am seriously channeling @DoubleEph. Come with me to our table: Capture4 The total from the addition will give us N47.8 billion, which begs the question: If you remove 31.6 from 47.8… again, I say, “kontunu.” In the words of #babahafusa #reminisce, “alabinrin”, why are these numbers doing “falafolo”. 2013: The Second Year of Our Beloved Deficit Now, I sincerely hope you are getting my message. For this year, we understand that N26.4bn accrued to the state out of which N36.9bn was expended giving us a ‘whopping’ N10.4 billion deficit. Turn up with me to the table: Capture5 Adding them together gives us N44.7 billion. If you remove the wage bill from this number (or vice-versa), there is no way you will have a deficit! I can understand if by now you are confused, trust me; I thought the people from my village have upgraded their operating system-like they did that rich guy who turned to a monk. |

Governors elected on the platform of the All progressives Congress (APC) will hold an emergency meeting in another four hours, in a last-ditch effort to resolve tension in the party ahead of Tuesday’s election of principal officers of the national assembly. Over the weekend, the party held shadow elections for the two candidates gunning for senate presidency and also the two interested in becoming speaker of the federal house of representatives. While Ahmed Lawan emerged the party’s official candidate to become senate president, Femi Gbajabiamila was chosen to become speaker of the house of reps. However, their opponents – Bukola Saraki and yakubu Dogara, respectively – boycotted the APC’s internal election, and are set to defy the party by contesting against the official candidates in Tuesday’s election proper. Monday night’s emergency meeting of the governors, which was brokered by Rochas Okorocha, governor of Imo state, will hold at Imo lodge, Askoro, in the federal capital territory, starting from 8pm. “Your Excellency, I am directed to invite you to emergency meeting of Progressive Governors scheduled to hold as flows: Time: 8.00 pm; date: Monday, June 8, 2015; venue: Imo Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja; agenda: national assembly matters, A. O. ABIOLA ORISILE Just after the swearing in of the newly elected public servants in Nigeria, many high ranking police officers have been appointed as ADC (AIDE-DE-CAMP). As you read this, the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode has also got one and he is Deputy Superintendent of Police, Olumide Raheem. He is one of the step sons of Oba Rilwan Akinolu, the Oba of Lagos. Olumide is the first son of Olori Titi Akiolu, who is the last wife of Oba Akiolu. They got married many years ago after Olori Titi lost her first husband. Though they never bore any children among themselves our source revealed to us that, it may be so hard for anyone to know that Olumide is not Oba Akiolu’s biological son. This is because Oba Akiolu has always assumed the role of a father to all Olori Titi’s children. “They have been married for over 18 years and even all the 3 Oloris love Olori Titi, because of her calm nature. “You know tradition permits Kabiyesi to marry as many wives he wants. There is no jealousy in the palace (Ko si oowu Lafin)“ revealed our source. DSP Olumide Raheem was a former Divisional Crime Officer of Bode Thomas Police Station. He also has a robust education. He attended Clarion University of Pennsylvania in United States of America and read Computer Information System. He later proceeded to Northumbia University to read Sociology in United States. He has since assumed the duty and he was sighted with the Governor when he stormed Iyana Ipaja, Alimosho Area which was the scene of the fire incident that occured last week. http://citypeople.com.ng/i/do-you-know-gov-ambodes-adc-is-oba-akiolus-son/ |
