Lets say 2 people One studied Law at one of the lowly ranked State Universities in Nigeria, but another studied lets say Mass Communication at the best University in Nigeria, lets say University of Ibadan.

When both go to search for Jobs, recruiters searching for Law Graduates will always prefer the Law graduate from the Lowly ranked State University, than the Mass Communication graduate from University of Ibadan. Simply put, he or she will never be chose as they are not Law Graudates.


As for you screaming skills, well your skills can be enough to feed you and your family.

But there are several specialized professions that you cannot work or walk into with your skills if you have not been trained for it. And like it or hate it, someone must do those jobs for society and economy to function fine. Your skills are just meant to feed you. Other people's certificates and trainings in Universities are what keeps the society working.

Or the electricity grids powering several kWatts of light in Nigeria, do we not need certified Electrical Engineers to work on them, or do you not need electricity for your work?

What about Doctors? Can you also learn that online and perform Surgical operations? If Yes, then learn it online and start the surgery on your parents first.

The course you studied can be more important if it is for certain industries: employers like hiring Engineering grads a lot more, even if they're not an Engineering firm (unless it's a specialised company)

The school you studied can be more important: employers used to love Covenant University grads because they felt they were the best grass being produced in Nigeria, followed by University of Ile-Ife grads (employers believed that is a very rigourous school).

Abroad: employers will take MIT and Purdue grads over a Science student from Harvard. Tsingua University grads are usually mobbed internationally (because ranking aside, everyone knows it's a VERY hard school to enter). John Hopkins School of Medicine grads usually are looked upon favourably. Mention you studied at Oxford or Imperial College and Nigerian employers will hire you on the spot without asking what you studied sef
