Exam Malpractice: WAEC withdraws certificates of candidates from 1992 and 1993 (Full List) The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the list of withdrawn certificates of candidates, who were believed to have engaged in malpractices during its examinations held as far back as December 1992 and 1993. The list of affected WAEC candidates was published in the weekly bulletin of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, released on Monday. The nature of their malpractices of the affected candidates was found to be an impersonation. In the JAMB bulletin, WAEC identified the candidates as, “Ukaumunna C. December 1992 examination with the certificate number, NGSP 0233613; Chinna H. December 1993 with the certificate number, NGSP 0572427; Koffi E. December 1993, with number NGSP 0455669; and Oham J. December 1994, with the certificate number, NGSP 0177271.”JAMB noted that to avoid such impersonation during its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, it was partnering the National Identity Management Commission to enforce candidates’ registration for the national identity number. The board said, “In view of the cases listed JAMB’s partnership with NIMC is imperative. In order to have a seamless registration for the 2020 UTME, we have put machinery in place to test run the new registration regime under the joint platform of JAMB and NIMC using the NIN.source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/12/exam-malpractice-waec-withdraws.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44

A man described as a “vicious rapist” has been handed life imprisonment after he was convicted of attacking two women. The rapist with a history of violence towards women threatened to kill one of his victims as he was jailed for life. 45-year Andrew Delsol was described by a judge as “vicious and self-obsessed,” and had been found guilty of 11 counts of physical and sexual violence against two women between 1985 and 2001. One of the women who gave evidence against him was at Bradford Crown Court as he said “I’ll murder that bitch” while being taken to the cells. During the trial at Bradford Crown Court, the first woman told how she was beaten and raped by Delsol in Bradford when she was a teenager. “His attacks on her included punching and kicking her, trying to drown her in the bath and indecently assaulting her with a carpet cleaner pole,” the court heard. The court heard that Delsol battered the second woman round the head with a hairbrush and plunged a screwdriver into her leg, as well as pouring petrol on her before flicking a lighter and threatening to kill her. The woman, who admitted she was smitten with Delsol, said he would assault her in the woods where no one could hear her screaming and attacks included holding her underwater in a lake, threatening her with an axe, picking her up by the hair and punching her on the side of the head. She said: “He just battered me black and blue every day. He needs putting away for life. He’ll carry on hurting people. He was handsome and beautiful… but he was evil.” The 55-year-old is currently serving a 13-year prison sentence imposed in 2015 for terrorising a young mother he locked in an attic flat over a four-month period. He was also previously jailed for eight years at Carlisle Crown Court in 2002 after holding his teenage girlfriend captive for six days, threatening to dismember her and attacking her. In 2009, Lancashire Police issued a Violent Offender Order to protect women from Delsol, who was first jailed in 1989 after he burned a woman with a blowtorch, tried to make her drink bleach and forced her out of a window with a rope around her neck. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/10/45-year-old-vicious-rapist-jailed-for.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44

Every parent's worst nightmare: Nanny arrested in South Africa for allegedly strangling toddler to death A nanny has been arrested after a 20-month-old boy Langelihle Mnguni she was hired to care for was found dead in Ekurhuleni, South Africa. The child's distraught mother, 28-year-old Lerato Mngun, from Daveyton in Ekurhuleni, said she hired the nanny through a Tembisa-based placement agency when her son, Langelihle, was two months old. “Why? I just want to know why,” said Lerato Mnguni. They all lived all in harmony, until tragedy struck last Friday when Lerato returned from work. Lerato and her aunt arrived to find the security gate locked but the door unlocked. The keys were thrown on to the kitchen floor. “I thought she had taken my child and run off,” said Lerato. She and her aunt eventually got into the house and said they found the nanny in her bedroom, praying on the floor, with her top off. There was allegedly a white substance around her. She had small abrasions and had vomited and defecated. “She said they [intruders] had broken into the house. I asked her where the child was and she said they had taken him,” Lerato said. She said the carer claimed that the attack happened at about 5.30am, just after Lerato and her aunt left for work. The 39-year-old woman had said that she could not call out or phone for help. “We asked her who the culprits were and whether she had seen them and she said yes. She said she had heard the voice of a neighbour. She opened the door and burglar gate for them. They came in, forced her to drink poison and took off with the child,” Lerato said. Sitting on her bed with a small photo frame containing Lihle’s picture and a candle burning next to it, Lerato said she rushed outside, searching for her son to no avail. “I called the ambulance for the nanny and the police,” Lerato said. After attending to her, the paramedics asked the family to bathe the nanny before transporting her. “They said they could not take her because she had defecated on herself, so they asked us to bathe her. My aunt went to the storeroom to go and get a small tub that we could wash her in,” Lerato said. It was there that the horrific discovery of the little boy’s body was made. “My aunt picked up the child, thinking he was still alive and rushed him to the paramedics who were attending to the nanny,” Lerato said. They, along with the child’s father, Sihle Tshabalala, tried to resuscitate him but it was too late. Sihle, 40, described how helpless he felt trying to resuscitate his son. “ I was just holding him, hoping and praying for a miracle" he said. He said when he arrived at the family home, he had not bothered to look for the child in the house because of the unfolding drama. “We had spent two to three hours outside. I had this hope or belief that I could do something. I tried everything,” said Sihle. “I tried CPR for close to an hour. I was just holding him, hoping and praying for a miracle,” the grieving dad added, seated on the bed, next to Lerato. Lihle’s post-mortem revealed shocking news. “The post mortem said there was a fracture around the neck. There was no poison found,” Sihle said, adding that his child had allegedly been strangled. Confirming the incident to TimesLIVE , Police Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said: “A woman is expected to make a second appearance in court next week following the death of a 20-month-old toddler. She appeared in the Benoni magistrate’s court [on Monday] after a preliminary investigation by the police linked her to the death of the child. She was arrested on Friday, the 18th." “Initially, the woman had claimed to police that robbers had come into the house and forced her to consume poison as well as the child. The child was found dead while the woman was rushed to hospital. But when police conducted the initial investigation surrounding the death of the child, the woman was found to be a possible suspect,” Peters added. Lihle will be buried on Thursday, October 24. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/10/every-parents-worst-nightmare-nanny.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44

Muhammad Sabo Nanono, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development on Monday, October 14th said Nigeria is producing enough to feed itself, contrary to the narrative in some quarters that there is hunger in the land. Nanono said this at a news conference in Abuja as part of the activities to mark the 2019 World Food Day being celebrated internationally on October 16. He said it was wrong to promote the idea that there was hunger in Nigeria, adding that there were only inconveniences being addressed by the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders like the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). According to the minister, the World Food Day is set aside to discuss food production. “From what I am seeing in this conference room, there is no sign of hunger but obesity. Only a few people like me are either trying to balance their diet or is it fasting that is responsible for the way some of us look?On fears that insecurity and flood may lead to food shortage, the minister said it is true that there were challenges in some states. According to him, reports from Gombe and Bauchi states where he visited a few days ago, showed that there will be bumper harvest. “Although, there has been flood and insurgency but I think the surplus that will be created in other parts of the country will balance up food shortage in other areas. In Nigeria, we are lucky that one of the food security spot is in Dawano market, Kano. But what we need is to reorganise our markets to solve the problem of malnutrition and other issues,” he said. The minister noted the narrative of hunger was erroneous, noting that Nigeria was a buffer zone for migration for the the rest of West African sub regions. He explained that there were lots of people from other African countries in Nigeria, who often blend into the system and were not easily identified except for their assent. On border closure, Nanono said that the report from farmers and dealers in rice and other commodities was that of commendation. He said although many people were not comfortable with the development when it happened, the testimonies that followed the closure were encouraging. The minister said, “I think when the government came out with the rice policy, most people felt uneasy because they are used to imported rice, which sometimes are expired but we are now seeing the benefit. Some of our neighbouring countries are using Nigeria as dumping ground and efforts to let them know failed. So we closed the borders to sensitise them on the implications of that.source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/10/there-is-no-hunger-in-nigeria-agric.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44

#SexForGrades: University of Lagos shuts down ‘Cold Room’ where lecturers ‘sexually harass’ students The University of Lagos has announced the shut down of the ‘Cold Room’, where lecturers reportedly harass students sexually. This was disclosed by Taiwo Oloyede, the Principal Assistant Registrar (Communication Unit) of the university. The ‘Cold Room’ was mentioned by a lecturer of the school, Boniface Igbeneghu, who was caught on video sexually harassing an undercover journalist who posed as an admission seeker. Igbeneghu, in the BBC undercover documentary, described the secret place where lecturers meet to “touch students breast” at the staff club of the university. “They call the place cold room,” he said. He then explained that female students must pay to have good grades. “The so called ‘Cold Room’ is a Functions Room that may have been abused because this is a deviation from the purpose for which it was created (meetings, seminars, events, etc)” the university spokesperson said. Oloyede also confirmed that Mr Igbeneghu had been suspended. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/10/sexforgrades-university-of-lagos-shuts.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44
