The operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad, RRS, have arrested two suspected thieves, Saidu Atiku and one other who specialized in vandalizing vehicles and stealing their brain boxes.

One of the suspects has confessed that it only takes four minutes to steal a brain box. The suspects, Sodiq Musa, 28 and Saidu Atiku, 34, were arrested at 27, Awolowo Road, Ikeja with three Toyota vehicle brain boxes while Ridwan Adamu escaped with the fourth box. One of the suspects, Sodiq claimed he was a graduate of Political Science from one of the Nigerian Universities before coming to Lagos in 2017 in search of greener pasture.

“I worked in Lagos as a barbecue man in various hotels and event centres before I met Ridwan who introduced me to brain box theft. We use ‘magic stone,’ that is, vehicle spark plug to break vehicle windows without attracting attention.

It takes two minutes to loose a Toyota Hiace bus brain box and it takes four minutes to lose a Toyota Hilux box. The spark plug reduces the noise and effects and can quickly break of any vehicle’s window and we tie the plug in a handkerchief in a situation where we have multiple vehicles to work on,” he narrated.

In his confessional statement to the RRS operatives, Sodiq told the officers that Saidu was a security guard who works for a company located on Awolowo street where they were arrested and that earlier in the day he called Ridwan who is the leader of the team to come feast on vehicles belonging to their company which were parked outside the company’s premises.

On getting the hint, Ridwan and Sodiq got to the venue around 1:00 a.m. They broke into two Toyota Hiace and two Toyota Hilux belonging to the company who employed Saidu as a nightguard, stealing their brain boxes before another security nearby raised the alarm. This led to their arrest. Sodiq was caught with three boxes while Ridwan fled with one. Sodiq was thereafter taken to RRS Headquarters, where he confessed the involvement of Saidu.

He disclosed that Saidu invited them for the operation and had slept beside the vehicles, which they vandalized and stole from while he cooperated and pretended like nothing was happening.

“We specialised in stealing Toyota brain boxes because they fetch good money in the market. The demand for them are higher than any other brand. For example we sold a Toyota Hiace bus for N40,000 while that of Toyota Hilux goes for N20,000 respectively”.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu, in his reaction to the incident directed the transfer of the case to State CID, Panti.

Bishop Wangivi of Joy Springs Church in Kiambu, Kenya has been accused of snatching the wife of a man whose wedding he presided over.

The distraught husband, John Kanyua said he lost his wife of 26 years, Leah Wambui to the randy Bishop after he approached her to become an assistant pastor in his church. The businessman admitted not taking the Bishop's consistent admiration for his wife seriously until he took off with his wife.

Kanyua revealed that he got suspcious of his wife's amorous relationship with the Bishop after he started visiting his house in the morning, spending the entire day locked in with her. The Bishop however ran away with his wife after he sought the intervention of the local administration and members of the clergy.

“This fueled the issue further as the pastor later ran away with my wife and children and rented a house in a nearby market where they live,” he said.

He further disclosed that he has been contacted by his wife's parents to accept repayment of the dowry he paid to them to pave way for the new wedding of their daughter. Kanyua hower said he refused the offer.

“This is unacceptable and I wouldn’t sit back and watch someone take my family. If the government does not intervene, I will choose my ways. It has taken me a lot to grow the family all those years. I will not allow the wedding to continue. I can also seek legal redress. Let her stop soiling her name and ask for forgiveness, then I will take her back,” he said.

The Bishop's wife of 34 years, Agnes Wangivi also confirmed the incident. The mother of three recalled having Leah over for family dinners though in the absence of her husband and on invitation of her own husband.

"I strongly objected the appointment, but he was determined to have his way. I confronted Leah and threatened her not to play games with my husband. She looked innocent, and I gave in.

“ I started questioning their friendship. I confronted Kanyua to keep his wife away from my husband, but he seemed blindfolded. My husband developed cold feet on his family and ran away to Leah in 2015,” she said.

Agnes said she still cannot understand why her husband got tired of her despite the challenges they went through to build their lives in their younger years.

“We have gone through a lot when we started the church to grow it. To have all the property we have, we went through a lot, and then someone wants to throw it away by marrying a stranger. I can’t allow this,” she said.

5. No marriage is perfect

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday in Abuja assured members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of All Progressives Congress (APC) that he would be more conscious of the interests of the party in taking key decisions.

He made the promise while receiving members of the NWC of the APC at the State House in Abuja.

President Buhari pledged to uphold party supremacy and commended the National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole and other members for their sacrifices and overall success in the last general elections in the country.

Buhari, in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and publicity, Chief Femi Adesina, said: “It is obvious that the success of the party was more paramount in your hearts.

“You could have deployed the times and energy you deployed for the party for your own personal use.

‘‘I respect the sacrifices you are making; you can only derive satisfaction if you are working for your country and all our people because, materially, nobody can pay you for the sacrifices.”
President Buhari used the occasion to appeal to NWC members to abide by the constitution of the party.

He said: “It is not enough to just criticize certain decisions of the party without first understanding what the constitution says.”

He assured the NWC that competent members with the requisite experience will be invited to contribute their quota to nation-building as heads and chairmen of boards of government parastatals and agencies.

Oshiomhole, while congratulating the President on the electoral victory, noted that the NWC was meeting with him exclusively for the first time after the elections.

The party chairman acknowledged that, while it was regrettable that the party lost some states, the greatest victory of the APC was in Kwara and Gombe states.

‘‘In Kwara, we uprooted the ruling dynasty and inaugurated absolutely loyal and totally committed APC men at the helm of affairs,’’ he said.

Commending the unique leadership style of the President, Oshiomhole thanked Buhari for his unflinching support that ensured the success of the party is holding the principal offices of the 9th National Assembly.

The wife and four children of a pastor with the Deeper Life Bible Church, Lugbe in Abuja, Isaac Pada, have been declared missing.

Pada in an interview with journalists, said on July 30th, he left his wife, Precious and their four children, Pearl, 8; Pathnel, 6; Pamebelo, 3; and Peace, 7 months, at home and went to work. On his return at about 8 pm, he could not find them in his house, but their personal belongings were all intact.

He reported the matter to the Lugbe Police station and investigations are currently ongoing.

The distraught clergyman said his attempt to locate his family has proved abortive. According to Pada, the entire family has no idea where his wife and kids are. He said they had no quarrel on or before the date they disappeared.

The matter has been reported at the Lugbe Police station.

Victor Ajidagba, a 400-Level student of the Department of Nursing, University of Ibadan, slumped and died shortly after writing a test on Wednesday.

Ajidagba was rushed to the University Clinic, known as Jaja Clinic, but all attempts to resuscitate and stabilize him were unsuccessful.

According to students who witnessed the incident, the medical officers on duty fought hard to save his life by administering first-aid treatment but had to refer him to the University College Hospital (UCH), Oritamefa, Ibadan, when they discovered the severity of the case.

He later died in the hospital, despite efforts of the medical officers at the UCH
