i gig is too small unless you are working from home and can use WIFI.

I assumed that I would only need to use mobile data when in transit as I would have wifi at home and at work. They also have a package of 45$ with 4GB. Is that better?

Is there Virgin in Calgary?

Just shine your eye and shop around because in this Canada the exact same service one person is paying $45 for, another person will be paying $75.

Thanks! Yes, there's virgin mobile in Calgary.

The problem is not being sure of what is a reasonable deal. Koodo has an offer for 35$ monthly (unlimited calls and texts and 1GB data). Does that seem fair? Thanks

Hi everyone,

My calgary people, does anyone have any advice or deals on mobile plans? Which is best between Fido, Koodo and Virgin? Thanks!

There most likely is a Calgary whatsapp group...The agent that shipped to ottawa also mentioned shipping to Calgary for a group of ladies.

Yes there is, but its nowhere near this active (atleast the one I'm in...)

hi there, there is a "settling in canada" newcomers (all of Canada)group if you are yet to land. But you need to be in Ottawa and have a verifiable address (even if it is an airbnb) to be in the "Nigerians in ottawa" group

Good choice. You will love it here in Ottawa. Massive supportive Nigerian population. If you decide to wait till you arrive send me a message and I will let an admin know so you can get an invite link. and then if you want we have a women's forum where you can get lots of information about helping your kids settle in, Nigerian food stuff/marketplace and cargoing stuff to and from Nigeria.

Tears.... why don't we have such a group for Calgary

Before you pick up the item, ask the person directly if there were bedbugs in their house previously, then check it very well to ensure no bedbug eggs or roach eggs. The last thing you want is to bring bedbugs into your apartment.

It's not very common but a friend mentioned that it good to check as some people would rather sell the furniture rather than fling it.

This is another major thing to consider..... thanks a lot for this.

If you're willing to do thrift/used then get a settlement agency to refer you to Women In Need. Free Furniture and possibly free clothes. Also get a referral to Making Changes Closet Program. Free (top quality) work outfits.

Thanks for the info! grin grin

For furniture, you can start out with liquidation stores, Kijiji, Facebook marketplace, etc. You can get good quality for cheap/free or just get cheap. After like 2/3 years and you have stabilized then you can buy new furniture that you'll really like.

Thank you. Both Kijiji and Marketplace have been highly recommended and so I think it's best I focus my energy on those 2 for now cheesy

Stroller- l use Graco double stroller and it’s fantastic. Maxi cosi is a good brand but it’s expensive and I get the same quality with Graco so I didn’t bother.

Furniture- I like IKEA, I have not seen any store that’s as affordable as IKEA, you guys can correct me if I’m wrong. I bought mattress from Wayfair in 2016 and it was very durable (and pricey). Sorry I don’t have answers to your other questions as I stay in Ontario. All the best!

Thank you so much! I have a graco modes travel system but felt the tires wouldn't hold up well in the snow. Guess I can save money on that now grin

You can buy a jogging stroller. A jogging stroller is usually the best for snow.

Happy Sunday everyone!

I have a few questions for my Calgary peeps please;

1. Which area is the 'best' to reside in for a family of 4 with 2 small children? The decision is between the NW and SW quadrants but all research seems to point towards the SW being better

2. Parents in the house (especially mamas), which stroller would you recommend? It would have to be one that can work well in snowy conditions

3. Furniture! OMG these things can be so expensive. Apart from IKEA and Walmart, which other place can you recommend for affordable but durable furniture (the basics like bed, sofa, dining set, etc.) Bonus points for places that can delivery and maybe install?

4. Wayfair Canada - This website pops up a lot. Is it good?

Thank you!

So these photos are from Calgary taken in August. I like to call this Museum and Albertan Rockies Edition.
As usual i'll put some of the trips I made on my Youtube channel, if that's your thing. Enjoy
.

Lovely pictures, thanks for sharing.

In your opinion, what's the best area to stay in Calgary?

Lol, I think we have all asked for this but I am not sure one exists as no one has ever responded as far as I know.

Maybe one of us will start one ourselves just that we are all newbies so not sure how useful we will be to each other grin

The story of my return to Canada.

Hello all, you may know (or not know me). I started this thread 3 years ago when I wanted to understand what it was going to take to live in Canada. We had our soft landing in 2017 which I shared.

We are currently observing our 14 day isolation. I am grateful to God that we are healthy, and may it continue this way, in Jesus name!!

Wow, very interesting. I could feel the stress you went through. I'm currently preparing to return to Canada as well. I hope everything has been smooth since you landed

Hello everyone,

Please I have a question. A friend did a short landing last year and intends to return in 2022 (he will be able to meet his residency requirements for renewal). However, he doesn't intend to file any taxes until after he returns. He says he will just file the back taxes. Can anyone advise on what the likely repercussions of this may be? He said he couldn't use Turbo tax as he is not in Canada

Thanks.

Hi everyone, its been a looooong time.

Does anyone have any experience with a spouse or PA being in the military or police force? A friend is married to a military guy and is thinking of applying under express entry but is worried about the application being flagged for security clearance.

Please help.

Hello Seniors, please if spouse is unaccompanying. Can the primary applicant land with the kids or only the primary applicant can land. We are waiting for our PPR but dont know if we have to submit passport for the kids and primary applicant or just primary applicant. Please help

So long as the kids were declared and included in the application, you can land with them. They will also be issued their own immigrant visas in their passports

Hi everyone,

For those who were asked to resend photos to IRCC for the Pr card, how long did it take for the card to be processed (after sending the new photos)?

(Asking for a friend)

Thanks.

Hi Ethelia,,

I intend to land in Grande Praire and while checking on the OB/GYN webpages, I noticed waiting time after referral from family doctor is about 2 months. Just want to confirm how true that is, as I would need to see the GYN weekly once I land. I noticed you landed in Edmonton though but I am believing similar practice applies since its same province.

Thanks.

Hello,

I had to wait about a month before my obgyn could see me. If you are much closer to your due date maybe your doctor will speed things up for you (Not sure).
