You've probably never been to Kenya. You've probably never had an encounter with any Kenyan. But here you are already hating. Hating the way they are created. All of you shouting "Kenya and bad news" are just being typical Nigerians; always trying hard to down talk other regions other than ours as if our own side is better. I'm sure if we had as much immigrants as South Africa, our own xenophobia would have been worse. Someone here is already hating just the mere look of them. Bad things happen everywhere. Good things happen everywhere. Kenya is a great country; more technologically advanced than Nigeria; full of good and hardworking people. But then the media knows what to feed you with so you'd keep coming for more. Travel and meet people. Associate with other cultures to better appreciate mankind! |

I must commend this initiative as I am also taking French to be able to boost my score.
I would like to ask if TEF is taken every month? As I have seen people talking about September, October and December exams.
I started private classes in May from scratch and I am using Objectif Express textbooks and I would like to take the exams in January 2019
Thank you once again, @justwise, @etrange as well as all contributing. It depends on the centre. I think Alliance Francaise Nigeria does theirs every month. |

clitlicker: T E F. i called alliance francaise lagos and the told me they only have space for about thirty people for the exam that will hold this december.
out of the population of 160 million nigerians. im surprised provision will be made for only 30 people. If nigeria has such a tiny number of french speaker and french language learners how come i couldnt find a job with my B2.
Delf exam is 10,000 naira
TEF is over 100k
why?!!
Delf is way way difficult than TEF. If u fail one of the sections in delf u get no certificate even if your score is 80% overall.
what i sha know is that i will leave this country 2019 by Gods grace wether its study visa or express entry or quebec nomination. Good morning brother. First, the 30 slots doesn't mean only 30 people will write in Nigeria. It means the centre you reached out to can only take 30 people in December. Each centre has a maximum depending on their capacity. And there are centres all over Nigeria. It also doesn't directly tell the amount of French speakers we have in Nigeria cause a good deal of them neither writes TEF nor DEF except the need arises. As for DELF being more difficult, I've heard that too. But let's be more detailed. Yes, you don't get a certificate if you fail a section in DELF but the again, in TEF, you're always required to make a minimum score in each section else the certificate won't fetch any point. So I see no difference here. DELF measures you based on a level while TEF difficulty progresses as you're writing the exam so it's easy to get the illusion that's easier cause of the first set of questions. I think TEF is more expensive cause of its usage/acceptance. I'm not disputing the possibility of it being simpler. I'm only saying we shouldn't let our guards down. With your B2, I want to believe TEF won't pose an issue to you. |

didn't you see my last statement? I saw it and ignored it. Let's just say icing your baseless post with that last statement in order to secure a soft landing in case you're criticised or called out didn't work out. A good deal of these women are hardworking people. The money being considered by the OP is their own earning in the year and not their worth or anything gotten from their husbands or ex husbands. So your post was/is totally off. Don't try to front your last statement as an escape route. No reasonable man would come online to call women whores just to belong. It's childish. |

I won't dispute the fact that some of them worked hard for their money Dude, don't take every chance to insult the feminine gender just cause others are doing it. Some of these women have been in the industry for 15yrs and more (even before meeting the so called men). And we saw them progress over time. It's delusional denying their hardwork just cause you're wired to believe women cannot achieve great heights on their own. I don't know the kind of women you have around you but not every female folk is like them. Besides, the article didn't even say the richest women, it's the highest paid. So it's clearly their pay within the period (2017 to 2018) being considered here and not their net worth. Your sadistic theory is, therefore, clearly not applicable. Except you're saying it's the men they divorced paying them for the movies they acted within the period. Stop hiding under the shadows of the societal man. Go and work hard and earn a decent living. That's what commands respect not gender. Happy Sunday. |

Cyberknight: Hallo everyone,
I note that most of you here have either taken the DALF or DELF or have some advanced French knowledge, so to further reassure you all, believe me when I say the TEF Canada is not a difficult exam; it is not designed to be. To put it into perspective, as a native English speaker, you will find TEF easier than IELTS. Again, DALF is a more difficult exam than TEF, as it is supposed to give access to French university studies, while TEF is simply a measure of working knowledge.
As language learners you will be familiar with the concept that "comprehension is always easier than expression", so its easier for language learners to understand written language first, than spoken language second, before they gradually come to expressing themselves, first in written, then in spoken language. Most people's language learning outside an area where the language is in daily use follows this pattern, so my advice would be to focus on both written and oral expression which are likely to be most people's weak points (mine too).
When I was learning French, our instructor taught us to spend as little time actually studying and more time in immersion. In other words, listen to French TV and radio (TV5 on DSTV or the CCTV French), read the French papers online (lemonde.fr, lesoir.be, etc.) and the rest will flow naturally. I must say it worked for me. Get a comprehensive book on French grammar (if you're considering writing TEF you should have grammar already at your fingertips anyway) and practice writing in French by drafting a copy of your daily communications (SMS, WhatsApp messages, etc.) in French all the time, and you should be fine.
Good luck to all. Thanks a lot! This is very reassuring. |

Teacher1776: Women are their own enemies. They snatch each others bfs and husbands, they gossip and malign one another, and when it results in a fight, they often strip each other in public. U hardly see a man strip his fellow man in a public fight. Even if a man has to fight a woman, he simply just beat her (if he can), no stripping. You guys just take every chance to attack women. Just see the way you put it, ".... they snatch each others boyfriends and husbands", as if these boyfriends and husbands are choice-less objects. You will not call out the men that cheat on their wives and sleep with other men's wives, those ones are not their own enemies, right? @Boldened, yes, they don't strip one another like the women folks, they kill one another when it results in fight. @Italicized, simply beat her? mariah203: Bonjour à tous! and thanks étrange for this initiative. I saw this post yesterday and sent a comment. It Never got posted and i was banned for 24 hrs probably because my post was in french. So i will try again, this time in english.
It is very possible to get a B2 in 6 months assuming you are doing thé Very intensive programme (VIP) at Alliance Français. Any other programme will take much longer. For example, I started studying in January with thé Regular evening programme and it took till May to conclu de with A1. From then, i took a private teacher and i had a very solid A2 in 5 weeks. My teacher says with a good A2 and lots of practice, one can excel in TEF.
As for study materials, i have thé TEF 250 activités and TEF Prepmyfuture app. Thé app is very helpful because it tells you thé strategy for tackling Every question type and shows u your progress as u master thé concept. There is also vocabulary and grammer les sons and practise questions, TEF mock exams and alot of TEF patterned questions for your practice.
I would like to take thé exam in septembre at Alliance Phc but I'm still not satisfied with my fluency level. Maybe i would come over to Lagos for thé Octobre exam. Until then I look forward to improving my french by being part of this thread...
Below is a mooc course on coursera you can use to improve ur french, its free www.coursera.org/learn/etudier-en-france
Below is thé link to thé TEF prepmyfuture. Though you will have to pay for a one year access. https://prepmyfuture.com/tef-english Mon grand, I too was banned for 24hrs for typing in French. I wonder how people will improve their written written French if NL keeps banning us for typing in French. Thanks for the resources shared. We will be glad to have you join us in Lag. |

joo2018: Hi etrange,
Great work starting this thread. I think when handled right, this thread will become a point of reference for people using French as a tool to get to Canada.
For me, I'm not taking TEF, but I'm working on improving my French and want to contribute to the thread.
I think the scope of the thread should be expended to include:
1. Posts encouraging people in their learning of French. 2. Posts sharing different language learning tools as we all learn in different ways.
Nigerians are quite good in languages. Most of us already speak at least two languages (English and our native tongue). French should be a step up. The problem we have is the way we were taught French in our primary and secondary schools. It made quite a lot of us (me inclusive) resistant to the idea of learning French.
But it is achievable. It shall end in praise! Hi Bro, Thanks for the suggestion. French learners are very much welcome in our midst though I wouldn't want us to lose focus of the main purpose which is TEF. You are correct about the way French is taught in our schools. I was only fortunate to have had great teachers. As for apps, I can remember using Duolingo for grammar and HelloTalk for virtual immersion. |
