When Jenna Cook went back to China at the age of 20 to search for her birth parents, she knew she was unlikely to succeed. What she didn't expect was that she would meet dozens of families who desperately hoped she was their lost child. Near a busy bus station in the Chinese city of Wuhan, on 24 March 1992, someone left a baby to be found. It's quite likely that they watched and waited from a safe distance until the girl was spotted. She was picked up and taken to the Wuhan Children Welfare House, close by. There she was given a name, Xia Huasi, meaning "China's", and assigned a birth date chosen at random by the director of the home. China's one-child policy meant that families faced heavy fines for having too many children. But it was also - and still is - illegal to give up unwanted children. There was no formal adoption process. But just days later China passed a law allowing foreign nationals to adopt, and at the end of June an American primary school teacher, Margaret Cook, came to collect Xia Huasi. She renamed her Jenna and took her home to Massachusetts. Jenna was one of the first wave of about 200 Chinese babies to go to American families. Many others followed - an estimated 80,000, mostly girls, have now gone to live in the US, and an additional 40,000 to the Netherlands, Spain and the UK. Jenna always knew that she was adopted. "We would talk about adoption just like we would talk about what's for dinner. It never felt like something that was a big deal," she says. Nevertheless, she sometimes wondered where she came from. "Even just looking at your own belly button, you think to yourself: 'Oh, I used to be attached to another human being. That's the body I came from, but who is that? Does that person even really exist?' It all seems so abstract. It sometimes just feels like you appeared on the planet. "Most people are just born into the families they're born into and they never think twice about it. Whereas for adopted people there is always this possibility of another life." 1 Like

Please I need help. I generated a remita payment code for N27000.00 from my portal and used it to make payment at GT Bank since the 13th of April,2017. But till today the payment is not reflecting in my wallet to enable me register. When I check the RRR on my portal it replied "RRR not found". I have my payment teller but how do I go about it, where do I start? Thanks in urgent anticipation. |

EFCC Intercepts N49m at Kaduna Airport. Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kaduna zonal office, on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, intercepted a sum of N49million in five large black 150kg colored BUHU sacks following a tip off. During a routine baggage screening, five sacks were sighted unattended and without tags containing fresh bulk items suspected to be money. Upon examination, the bags were found to contain fresh crispy naira notes of N200 denomination in 20 bundles totaling forty million naira and N50 denomination in 180 bundles totaling nine million naira with seal purportedly emanating from the Nigeria Security and Minting Plc (NSPM) as seen in the labeled sealed packs. Investigation into the case is in top gear to unravel the culprits behind the attempted illegal movement of the cash. Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev has appointed his wife as first vice president, the latest move seen as tightening the family's grip on the oil-rich Caspian nation. The 21st February, 2017 appointment of Mehriban Aliyeva follows constitutional changes made after a tightly-managed referendum last year that introduced the powerful position of first vice president, the second most senior official in the country. Aliyeva, 52, has been an MP for the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan party since 2005 and head of the influential Heydar Aliyev Foundation - named after her father-in-law and former president. Born into the powerful Pashayev family, Aliyeva has sometimes been seen as a possible successor to her husband, who took over in 2003 after the death of his father Heydar, a former KGB officer and Communist-era boss. 'Cementing dynastic rule' Azerbaijan's embattled opposition angrily criticised Aliyeva's elevation as undemocratic and called it a ploy to cement the Aliyev family's dynastic rule. "The move throws Azerbaijan back to medieval, feudal times," opposition leader Isa Gambar of Musavat party told the AFP news agency . The president, 55, cruised to a third five-year term against limited opposition in 2013, extending his family's rule into a third decade. Supporters have praised the Aliyevs for turning a republic once considered a Soviet backwater into a flourishing energy supplier to Europe. But critics argue they have crushed all opposition and used their power to amass a fortune for the president and his family. Activists have raised concerns over Azerbaijan's poor rights record, with Human Rights Watch in May blasting the country for a ruthless crackdown that has seen political activists and critical journalists jailed. Lavish lifestyle Known for her love of luxury, Aliyeva featured prominently in US diplomatic cables published by Wikileaks, one of which dubbed her "a first lady, too, in fashion". "First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva appears to have had substantial cosmetic surgery, presumably overseas, and wears dresses that would be considered provocative even in the Western world," the leaked 2010 cable said. An eye doctor by training, she has also authored a dissertation on the ethical aspects of mercy killing.
