After much tussle and voting, a clear majority of German MPs have voted to legalise same-sex marriage, days after Chancellor Angela Merkel dropped her opposition to a vote. The reform grants couples now limited to civil unions full marital rights, and allows them to adopt children. Mrs Merkel's political opponents were strongly in favour. But the chancellor, who signalled her backing for a free vote only on Monday, voted against. The bill was backed by 393 lawmakers, 226 voted against and four abstained. The German legal code will now read: "Marriage is entered into for life by two people of different or the same sex", AFP news agency reported. Following Friday's vote, Mrs Merkel said that for her marriage was between a man and a woman. But she said she hoped the passing of the bill would lead to more "social cohesion and peace" Read full verdict below.. more @ http://www.exlinklodge.com/2017/06/breaking-news-german-government.html cc mynd44 lalasticlala dominique ishilove obinoscop

Talk about globalization and bringing to world to a place called "internet". According to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook is able to offer a sense of community, filling the gap left by falling church membership. As the social networking site announced it had hit the two billion user mark, which means one in every four people now using Facebook every month – Zuckerberg boasted the “world is a little brighter now”. With 100 million users taking part in what Zuckerberg called “meaningful communities” within Groups on Facebook, he spoke of his ambition to raise that number to a billion. In his words: “If we can do this, it will not only turn around the whole decline in community membership we’ve seen for decades, it will start to strengthen our social fabric and bring the world closer together.” Comparing the site to a church, he went on to talk about the need for “great leaders” in such a community, saying: “A church doesn’t just come together. It has a pastor who cares for the well-being of their congregation, makes sure they have food and shelter.” “People who go to church are more likely to volunteer and give to charity – not just because they’re religious, but because they’re part of a community.” Earlier in the year, Zuckerberg published a 6,500-word manifesto to beat fake news, outlining his plan to “come together to build a global community that works for everyone”. However, last week the network changed its mission statement from “Make the world more open and connected” to “Bring the world closer together”. Announcing the two billion user milestone on his Facebook page, Zuckerberg wrote: “We’re making progress connecting the world”. “It’s an honor to be on this journey with you”. The tech giant has manged to double its audience over the last five years after reaching the one billion user landmark in October 2012. Every day, more than 800 million people “like” something on Facebook and more than 750 million new friends connect. Founded 13 years ago, Facebook is now one of the world’s most valuable companies, worth $65bn (£51bn). more @ http://www.exlinklodge.com/2017/06/you-can-now-go-to-church-on-facebook.html cc lalasticlala

Neighbouring country, Cameroon has repatriated 887 Nigerian refugees in Cameroon have been following request from the Cameroonian government to Nigeria to facilitate their return. According to NAN, Mr Hanson Tamfu, the External Relations Officer, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Nigeria, said on Wednesday in Abuja that the returnees have arrived in Banki, Nigeria’s border town with Cameroon. Tamfu said that the request was prompted by fear and suspicions of the Cameroonian authorities that among the refugees might include some elements of Boko Haram. “The returnees arrived in six trucks sent by Nigerian authorities following the meeting with the governor of the far north region of Cameroon on June 19. “During the meeting, Nigeria was requested to cause the return of refugees, which the Cameroonian authority suspects may also compromise some elements of Boko Haram whose activities have increased tremendously in recent times. “Consequently, the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on June 26 dispatched the buses to transport the refugees,’’ Tamfu said. Tamfu said that the latest group of returnees comprises 233 females, 187 males, 236 girls, and 231 boys who were living in host communities in Kolofata, a far north region of Cameroon. He said it was reported that most of them do not have much in terms of personal effects but a few items in plastic sacks while some returned completely empty handed. Tamfu said that UNHCR responded immediately by providing wet feeding, adding that it also would contact the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Borno SEMA to continue with food provision. He said that more returnees had indicated interest to leave Minawowa Camp in Cameroon, adding that they were anxious to return following the media reports about improved security back home. He said they were also eager to return on hearing the government’s decision to distribute food to all the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Borno. more @ http://www.exlinklodge.com/2017/06/887-nigerian-refugees-has-been.html cc mynd44 missyb3 obinoscopy lalasticlala

The President of Tanzania, John Magufuli has imposed a ban, restricting school girls who get impregnated from going back to school. The President made this known while addressing Bagamoyo District residents during his three-day-tour of Coast Region on Thursday 22nd June, 2017. Mr. Magufuli accused some of the non-governmental organisations (NGOs), which have been urging the Tanzanian government to allow teen mothers back to school, of being used by alien agents. In the president's world: “There are many things that girls, who are impregnated can do after delivery; they can join VETA (Vocational Education Training Authority centres), they can learn sewing but they can’t go back to school,” “If we were to allow them back to school, one day we will find all girls who are in Standard One have babies,” said President Magufuli. Mr. Magufuli's administration has been pressured by some NGOs to allow teen mothers back to school but the President is giving no room to grant such decision. The NGOs advocating for girls’ rights to education, are said to be urging the government to formulate a legal framework that would allow teenage mothers to resume studies after giving birth. more @ http://www.exlinklodge.com/2017/06/tanzania-president-magufuli-ban-teenage.html cc lalasticlala mynd44 ishilove obinoscopy missyb3 dominique

Lawyer B.E.I Nwofor Was Stripped Off SAN Tittle Because Of His Role In PDP & Ali Modu Sheriff's Case Nigeria’s Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee has stripped a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, B. I. Nwofor, of his title as senior advocate. The decision which was taken at the Committee’s 126th general meeting held on June 22 was contained in a letter from the privileges committee signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Ahmed Salleh. “The Legal Practitioner’s Privileges Committee at its 126th General Meeting held on June 22nd 2017, considered extensively the complaint filled by the court of appeal of Nigeria against B. E . I. Nwofor, Esq. A Senior Advocate of Nigeria with his response to same and all material facts and have decided that B. E. I. Nwofor Esq; a Senior Advocate of Nigeria conducted himself in a manner unbefitting of a holder of the esteemed rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria. “By reason of the foregoing, the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria _(including all its privileges)_ has been withdrawn from B. E. I Nwofor, forthwith,” the statement said. Mr. Nwofor, who represented the Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in the legal battle for the party’s ticket ahead of last year’s governorship election in Ondo State. The Sheriff faction had recorded a temporary victory by obtaining a judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which recognised the faction’s preferred aspirant, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim, as the PDP’s governorship candidate for the said governorship poll. Though the victory was short-lived as few days later, Appeal Court in Abuja in its judgment delivered on November 23, 2016, retrieved the ticket from Ibrahim and returned it to Eyitayo Jegede, who was the candidate of the rival Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the party. The LPPC, in a statement released late on Friday, described the conduct of Nwofor during the hearing of the case as “unbecoming of the holder of the esteemed rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.” The statement signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Mr. Ahmed Saleh, stated that the decision to strip Nwofor of his SAN rank was based on a petition filed against the lawyer by the Court of Appeal. It will be recalled that Nwofor had a rancorous encounter with the Justice Ibrahim Saulawa-led three-man panel during the hearing of the case by the Court of Appeal. Specifically, the November 16, 2016 proceedings went on for over five hours in a tense courtroom charged by the confrontation between members of the Justice Saulawa-led panel and Nwofor. Also before the conclusion of the case, Nwofor also on behalf of his client filed before the Supreme Court, two motions, one of which asked for a stay of the appeal court’s proceedings. The second motion also sought an order disbanding the Justice Saulawa panel. The Supreme Court on November 22, 2016, dismissed the two motions, paving the way for the Justice Saulawa panel to go ahead to deliver its judgment in the Ondo State PDP case earlier reserved to await the decision of the apex court. Incensed by the motions which Nwofor filed on behalf of his clients, the Supreme Court after dismissing them, awarded cumulative fines of over N10m against the applicants and Nwofor, their lawyer, for filing the applications adjudged to have constituted an abuse of court process. The Justice Saulawa-led panel of the Court of Appeal eventually on November 23, 2016, delivered its judgment in which it sacked Jimoh Ibrahim as the PDP’s candidate in the governorship election. The Court of Appeal in the said judgment returned the ticket to Jegede, who eventually contested but lost the November 26, 2016 poll to the All Progressives Congress’ candidate and now incumbent governor of the state, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu. The leaders of the Igbos living in the 19 Northern States vowed on Tuesday to ignore the October 1 quit notice given to Igbos by Northern youth. The president of Igbo traditional rulers in the northern states and Abuja, Chikezie Nwogwu, stated this during a courtesy call on Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai. According to Vanguard New, Nwogwu said the Igbo would not leave the North because they have contributed immensely to the development of the region. “We are not in support of division. We are saying that things should be done right,” Nwogwu said. Governor El-Rufai said the state has no room for hate speeches and will ensure that those who perpetrated such acts would be arrested and detained, no matter how long it takes. “Nobody can come to Kaduna State and say this nonsense. It is hate speech that kills. We are trying people for that. We have a duty to arrest them and put them before a judge. “We will tell them that they cannot do that in Kaduna. We will go after them. They have gone underground. There may be reluctance on the part of some people to arrest them but we will arrest them,” he said. “Breaking up into small enclaves is not a solution. It is short-sighted and only illiterates behave like that. We all need Nigeria, it is from Nigeria that we can be better. Our federation is not a true federation but the solution is not to break into small enclaves,” he said. “We will do whatever we will do to protect everybody in Kaduna State. We are watching every body. Every Nigerian in Kaduna State is safe. “We will do whatever we can to protect you. Relax, continue your normal lives, nothing will happen,” he said. more @ http://www.exlinklodge.com/2017/06/we-will-not-vacate-north-on-october-1st.html cc mynd44 missyb3 lalasticlala
