Saraki Declares: Buhari And His Vice, Acting President Osinbajo Cannot Stop My Next Move

The Nigeria Senate President, Bukola Saraki said in a statement today that the likely refusal of President Muhammadu Buhari or his Vice, Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, cannot stop the final process of amendment of the Constitution, according to a report on Post-Nigeria.

The Senate President, revealed that it was with conviction on that, that the 8th National Assembly approved the removal of Presidential assent to an amended the Constitution. Recall, that the 7th Assembly had in 2015, while reviewing the 1999 Constitution, approved the removal of Presidential assent from the process of the amendment.

However, Saraki said going by the process of amending the Constitution, the final decision of Federal and State Legislatures, should be seen as the decision of the people.

“Well, to me, if two-thirds of the National Assembly agree to something, and two-thirds of the State Assemblies also agree, in my view, the President should accept that as the wish of the people. “Does he really need to assent? Personally, I don’t think so; that is my personal view, because with two-third of National Assembly, two-third of State Assemblies, the people have spoken”, he said.

Saraki added that, the Senate would follow up on the amendment process in the States, to ensure that there was wide consultation and sensitisation.

A popular Senegalese singer, Amy Colle Dieng has been arrested after she shared an audio recording on WhatsApp in which she is alleged to have made insulting comments about President Macky Sall.

Amy Dieng is said to have shared the controversial content in a WhatsApp message group for supporters of Karim Wade, the son of former president Abdoulaye Wade who is currently exiled in Qatar.

Upon her arrest, she admitted to police that she made the insulting remarks and he is currently being held by the national police's criminal investigations unit.

Umar Ahmed Iman, the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly has resigned just one day after the lawmakers postponed their sitting as crisis rocked the Assembly.

The Clark of the Assembly read the resignation letter to lawmakers earlier today.

Yesterday, Kogi lawmakers postponed sitting till further notice after a crisis erupted on Tuesday over an alleged plan to remove the majority leader of the House, Matthew Kolawole.

They, however, resumed sitting today and after Ahmed’s resignation letter was read to them, they elected Homourable Kolawole, as the Speaker who said to be a staunch supporter of the state Governor, Yahaya Bello.

Starting today, August 3rd, bus conductors in Lagos will be required to wear a uniform and name tags for easy identification. This information was disclosed by Comrade Israel Adeshola, the National President of the Bus Conductors Association of Nigeria, BCAN.

According to Adeshola, the Lagos State government has approved the association’s uniforms and badges with name tags and identification numbers for easy identification of registered conductors.

He said:

‘’The re-branding of bus conductors in the state which is in partnership with the Lagos State Government is a project that has been in the master plan of the state government in a way to stem criminal activities and also protect the lives and properties of Lagosians".

He called on Lagosians to support the initiative.

I can't fathom the wisdom in the manner the family of this deceased Ghanaian food seller handle his burial ceremony. Is this not decimation and dishonoring her? The photos has since gone viral already and this is certainly not a way to lie someone in state.

The photo above is from the lying-in-state of the corpse of a food vendor in Ghana. They placed her body in a sitting position, with mortar and pestle..like she's pounding yam and a pot of soup cooking beside her.
