Ex England and Chelsea midfielder Ray Wilkins has died in hospital at the age of 61. Mr. Wilkins, who also played for Manchester United, AC Milan, Rangers and QPR, was being treated at St George's Hospital in London following cardiac arrest.

His family thanked "Ray's friends, colleagues and members of the public" for the many messages of goodwill. Chelsea said they were "devastated to learn of the passing of our former player, captain and assistant coach".

The club added:
"Rest in peace, Ray, you will be dreadfully missed."

Wilkins' family said:
"It is with great sadness we announce that Raymond Colin Wilkins passed away this morning.

"Ray leaves behind his loving wife, Jackie, daughter Jade, son Ross, and his beautiful grandchildren, Oliver, Frankie, Ava, Freddie, Jake and Archie. "We are asking for privacy at this very difficult time."

Wilkins, who had been working as a TV and radio pundit, had suffered poor health in recent years and had double bypass heart surgery in July 2017. He also admitted struggling with alcohol problems in the past and went through a five-week rehabilitation programme in the Priory Hospital in Woking in 2016 following a four-year ban for drink-driving.

As a player he made 84 appearances for England and captained his country 10 times, while he won the FA Cup with Manchester United in 1983 and the Scottish league title with Rangers in 1989. Wilkins had spells as manager of QPR, Fulham and the Jordan national team.

He was also Chelsea assistant coach from 1998-2000 and then 2008 until 2010, when he worked alongside Guus Hiddink and Carlo Ancelotti.

Before Wednesday evening's Milan derby, former AC Milan team-mate Franco Baresi led a minute's applause in honour of Wilkins, and laid a bouquet of flowers and a 'Wilkins 8' Milan shirt in front of the famous Curva Sud stand.

The EFL said a period of applause will be held before Sunday's Checkatrade Trophy final at Wembley Stadium between Lincoln City and Shrewsbury Town and that it would offer its "full support for any proposed marks of respect" from any clubs.

A Nigerian and a Babcock graduate, Onoseta Oribhabor, has reportedly committed suicide after murdering his 27-year-old girlfriend, Essozinam “Martine” Assali, in Toronto, Canada.

The police were called to a condo building in the north end of the city, on March 6, and found Oribhabor dead on a balcony. After a further search, they found a woman inside a unit with obvious signs of trauma. She was treated for injuries but died afterwards.

Oribhabor graduated from Babcock University, Ogun State, before leaving for Canada. The Police however characterize the case as a murder-suicide and have listed 27-year-old Essozinam Assali as the city’s 10th homicide victim of the year.

They have identified the 30-year-old man as Onoseta Oribhabor of Edmonton.

While we forget that stupidity needs a cure too

Last week, we posted a disturbing news on how a mentally troubled man (mad man) killed two school children with machete during break time and ran away, all thank to the Ogun State police command as they have finally tracked him down and arrested him.

The incident happened at the Saint John’s Anglican Primary School, Agodo in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area in Ogun State, on Monday March 12th, 2018. The children identified as Mubarak Kalesowo and Sunday Obituyi died instantly due to the deep machete cuts from the attack.

In a statement released by spokesperson of the Ogun State police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect identified as Lekan Adebisi, was caught in a bush at Area J4 in Ijebu East Local Government Area of the state today. He was caught via the combined effort of policemen and local hunters.

Reports also have it that Adebisi was shot in the leg while attempting to escape. He has since been taken to the state police headquarters.

A yet to be identified female member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, was, yesterday, crushed by a train in Ikeja Local Government Area, Lagos State. Her lifeless body, which was left lying on the rail line.

According to Daily Post, efforts to drag her back when an oncoming train was approaching proved abortive as she was busy pressing her phone as well as using earpiece as she was crossing the rail line making her incapable of noticing on taken cognizance of the on coming train.

Eyewitness told newsmen thus;

“The train was not moving at a high speed. People tried to call her attention to the oncoming train but she didn’t yield to the call as she continued pressing her mobile phone.

“I was looking at her from where I stood and saw her with an earpiece plugged into her ears which made her unable to hear the sound of the oncoming train. Many passers-by tried to pull her out of the rail line but she ran towards the moving train which crushed parts of her body,”..

Efforts to reach Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Chike Oti, for confirmation could not yield any fruit at the time of this report.

This police officers wife was busted by her friend. According to what is been heard from the video, it seems she cannot let her friend's husband be and could stop at nothing to have the man. But the friend's husband and his wife set her up. Immediately the friend's husband followed her to the hotel and before they started anything, the wife entered.

Legendary Netherlands Football Star, Wesley Sneijder Retires From International Football

Legendary Dutch football star, Wesley Sneijder, the Netherlands' most-capped player, has retired from international football. The 33-year-old, (Born 9th June, 1984) who plays for Qatari side Al-Gharafa, made his debut in 2003 and went on to play 133 games.

Midfielder Sneijder made the decision to retire after a discussion with Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman, who was appointed in February 2018. "I understand that Koeman wants a fresh start with younger players. I respect his decision," Sneijder said.

Sneijder surpassed Edwin van der Sar as the Netherlands' most-capped player in June 2017 in his 131st appearance. He was part of the side that reached the World Cup final in 2010, where the Netherlands were beaten 1-0 by Spain in South Africa.

The former Inter Milan midfielder last played for the Dutch in their 3-0 victory over Romania in November.

According to Netherlands Coach;

"Wesley is one of the best Dutch internationals in recent years, an amazing player with a great attitude," Koeman said. "But I want to build a new team and therefore have to make choices."

A statement from the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) said they would discuss a possible coaching role with Sneijder once he had finished playing club football.

Nigeria and most African societies are different from say "China" but some people don't give a hoot about that, that why you see women marrying their sons and brothers marrying their sisters. In this part of the world folks, it is sacriligious to do that. Yet some still damn the consiquencies.

An Igbo young man, Cornelius Chiadi Ezeibekwe, 25, recently caused a stir in Ekwulobia in Aguata local government area of Anambra State when he wedded his younger sister, aged 17. In Igbo land, such a marriage is a taboo and it was on the basis of this that youths of the community burnt down the Sabbath Church where Chiadi and his sister were thought to have been joined as husband and wife.

Chiadi, the sixth of 10 children (eight boys and two girls) by Mr. Louis Ezeibekwe, is a mathematics teacher at Community Secondary School, Isuofia, also in Aguata local government area. At the time Sunday Vanguard visited their home at Agba, Ekwulobia, Chiadi was busy marking examination scripts and there was nothing in the compound to indicate that any abnormal thing happened there.

His sister is a student of Federal Government Technical College, Awka, but she left school to enable her observe what Sabbath people call ‘Shimta’. During the observation, which Chiadi said lasts for one year, she must remain in the compound. It was during the observation that the marriage took place. Before then, she had left school because of the controversy generated by her marriage with her elder brother.

Louis Ezeibekwe, their father, 78, and who recently buried his mother who died at the age of over 100, appeared not to be in control of the behavior of his children as he exhibited signs that all was not well with his health. His eldest son, Emeka, who lives in Port Harcourt and who is not a member of the Sabbath Church, said he belongs to the Winners Church. He also confirmed that their father was not well. Though members of the family were originally Catholics, they later changed to Seventh Day Adventist Church and subsequently to their own brand of Sabbath worship, with Paul, one of the children of Louis Ezeibekwe, as pastor.

Justifying his reason for marrying his sister, Chiadi said: “I am a Sabbath and, in searching through the scriptures, I discovered that one could marry his sibling. So, we went ahead with the arrangement to marry my younger sister.

“The marriage ceremony was observed inside our family compound, which also serves as a place of worship for us. My immediate elder brother, Paul Ezeibekwe, the pastor, was present during the ceremony. "What happened is that when we decided to get married, we told our parents our intention and my father asked us if we knew what we were about to do. I told him that we searched through the scriptures and that God sanctioned it. It was after this that our parents consented.

“However, our other relations objected to the idea when they learnt of the plan and when we ignored them and went ahead with the marriage, they and other villagers burnt the Sabbath Church where we used to worship because they thought it was in that place that we worship, not knowing that we have since abandoned the place and worship in our compound. The burning of the church does not mean anything to us.

“God told me to marry my sister and she also saw same vision. There are places in the Bible that support such marriage. Those in doubt should read Songs of Solomon Chapters 4 and 5 and 1st Corinthians Chapter 7. "Since we took this decision, I have not felt anything unusual, or felt that I did anything wrong. In the school where I teach, many people ask me about it and I boldly refer them to the Bible”.

Worried by the development in the community, some elders went to the traditional prime minister of Ekwulobia, Chief Gabriel Ezeukwu, to lodge a complaint because the traditional ruler of the area, Igwe Emmanuel Onyeneke, is out of the country.

After consultations with other elders in the community, Ezeukwu ordered that the marriage be dissolved and a cleansing of the community of the bad omen arranged. Sunday Vanguard gathered that the Parish Priest of St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ekwulobia is handling the cleansing process, especially when it was realized that the family was originally Catholic.

Asked if he would subject himself to the cleansing by the Catholic Church, Chiadi said in as much as he would not like to break the law of the land, he would leave everything to God to decide because it was God that gave him the vision to marry his sister.

At least 10 people has been reported and 10 others were seriously injured in a road accident which occurred around 11.30 am yesterday in Majiya town, Taura local government area of Jigawa State.

The spokesman of the Jigawa state Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Adamu Shehu, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria. NAN in Dutse yesterday. He said the accident involved a Sharon bus with registration number GWL 262 ZA and a Toyota Hilux van with number plate ZY 749 AGL. The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.

“As at the time of giving this report, 10 people were confirmed dead; they include two children, one woman and seven men. Ten others also sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Ringim General Hospital for prompt medical attention.

“The Sharon bus is a commercial vehicle while the Toyota Hilux belongs to Wazobia Global Broadcasting and Communication FM Station,” he said.

Groom Dead, Groom's Grandma Dead, Bride Severely Injured As Wedding Gift Explodes - Photos


A tragic incident in a wedding in India has taken people by surprise. A wedding gift given to a newly married couple exploded just days after the wedding, killing the groom and his grandmother. The explosion has also left the bride in a critical condition and could possibly die.

According to IBTimes UK, the incident took place in the eastern Indian state of Odisha on Friday, 23 February, five days after the wedding, when the family was busy unpacking presents received at the reception. Police said the pair from the Bolangir district of the state got the gift from an unidentified person at their marriage reception on 21 February.

The explosion killed the groom's grandmother on the spot, while the man died later at a hospital. The bride is also said to be in critical condition, and receiving treatment at a government hospital in Burla city, Deccan Chronicle reported.

The identity of the victims has not been revealed yet. Chief Medical Officer of the district, S Mishra, said the elderly woman was declared "brought dead" at the Bolangir district headquarters hospital, while the man "injured in the blast also died at the Ispat General Hospital in Rourkela".

"The family had received a parcel bomb in the guise of the gift packet today which exploded while being opened. The police have collected evidence and an investigation is on," Patnagarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sesadeva Bariha said, adding search operation against the accused has been launched.
