Innoson Vs GTBank: EFCC's Charges Against Me Is Laughable & Pitiable - Innocent Chukwuma

Up till today, Nigerians are yet to know the gravity of the offence Innoson Motors Nigeria CEO committed that EFCC stormed his residential house in commando style to arrest and whisked him away like a common criminal.

The truth is gradually coming to light. The Chairman and Managing Director of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM), Chief Innocent Chukwuma, has dismissed as laughable and a ‘no issue’ the alleged fraud charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a statement by Head of Corporate Communications Innoson Group, Mr. Cornel Osigwe, the entrepreneur said the purported charge was a calculated attempt by the anti-graft body to justify his arrest last week Tuesday. He said the charge was an action taken in bad faith to change the narrative to him in bad light and divert the attention of the public that had continued to condemn his arrest.

The statement reads;

“We have some reservations with the publication of the details of the suit in question on some online blogs because the charge, which EFCC purports to file against me has a temporary suit number: Temp/3315c/2017. This number is written with red pen at the top most right side of the charge published at EFCC’s page.

“By this temporary number it means that the charge is not yet before any court in Lagos State. Also, it means that the charge cannot be acted upon by any court in Lagos State and it cannot be served on any party as well.

“As it is, the charge has not been filed. So why the media noise by the commission of filling fraud charges against Innoson? We believe that it is a Volte face. Furthermore we are alarmed at how low EFCC could descend to be used by GTB to destroy the Nigeria’s foremost entrepreneur. We have it now in good authority that there is a grand conspiracy by an International competitor of Innoson Vehicles who have conspired with a financial institution to pull down Innoson Vehicles at all cost because of the latest increase of patronage of Innoson Vehicles by the Federal Government.

“But we are amazed that EFCC, a Federal Government Agency who is supposed at all times to defend indigenous Nigerian companies who are working hard to make Nigeria great will allow itself to be used as a tool to kill and destroy these companies. Particulars of Offence Nigeria needs to ask EFCC if GTB as a bank has any license to import motorcycle spare parts or CKD.

“A cursory look at the charges filed by EFCC at court is both laughable and constitutes a National embarrassment. The motorcycles being deemed the property of GTB were ordered by Innoson from its manufacturers and suppliers with a loan from GTB. Under letter of credit transaction, in international trade, bills of ladings are consigned to banks not because the banks – consignees – are the owners of the goods but rather to ensure that the seller is paid and the buyer receives the goods.

“Mere consignment or endorsement of a bill of lading does not confer title in the goods covered by the bill of lading to either the consignee or the endorsee. Where consignment or endorsement of a bill of lading is intended as a security for loan, consignment or endorsement in such circumstance does not transfer title in the goods to the consignee or the endorsee.

“All Innoson’s letter of credit transactions, through GTB, were confirmed LCs. In letter of credit transactions (LC), particularly but not exclusively confirmed LC, the term is cash against documents. Shipping documents are not released by the advising/correspondent bank to the Issuing Bank until the Issuing Bank pays for the goods.

“At all material times, Innoson paid 25% of every LC value before it was opened. The media hype of EFCC portrayed Innoson and its promoter as having stolen goods belonging to GTB. We note the attempt of EFCC to get the courts to retry a matter Innoson had already secured judgment on.”

The IVM owner further reiterated his earlier statement that the commission was yet to tell him why he was arrested except to say on pages of newspapers that he was arrested because of his fraud at SEC and forgery of documents to obtain tax waivers.

“While we await to be served the court papers, we want to advice the EFCC that if there is any complaint by GTB to EFCC, Innoson should be invited by the commission to clear its name, EFCC will then conducts its investigation before taking matter to court,” he said.

In a statement he signed Thursday night, titled ‘Expectations from President Buhari: Pursuing Triffless’, the senior advocate of Nigeria said that President Buhari was running a government that freely spreads poverty, disillusionment, melancholy, hopelessness and sadness.

According to him, for the first time in the history of Nigeria, Nigerians were spending their Christmas at filling stations queuing for fuel, which is being sold to the highest bidder.

The statement reads;

“Expectations from PMB? That is a tall dream.

“Nigerians’ expectations, not mine, are that PMB should first form and put in place a serious government properly so called before we begin to talk of PMB giving Nigerians democracy dividends.

“This is the most clueless, most directionless, most irresponsible and most corrupt government in the history of Nigeria since the January 1, 1914 Lugardian amalgamation of Southern and Northern protectorates to form Nigeria.

“It is mostly a “one chance” cabalistic government of incredible opaqueness, unique privatization of corruption and a government that freely spreads poverty, disillusionment, melancholy, hopelessness, sadness, pains, blood, and pangs.

“For the first time in the sad history of Nigeria, Nigerians spent Xmas at petrol stations, queuing for fuel, while government officials are shamelessly diverting and selling available fuel to their cronies and highest bidders.

“This is a government that continuously “fights” corruption within itself with sweet smelling sasarobia perfume, whilst fighting so called corruption of opposition and critics of government with insecticides, pesticides and herbicides.

Former Special Adviser on New Media to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has reacted to the controversy surrounding President Muhammadu Buhari’s age 74 years age claim.

The former Presidential aide wondered how a president who cannot remember his real age can remember his campaign promises.

In a tweet via Twitter, the former presidential aide described Buhari as a president with football age.

“Buhari said, ‘I thought I was 74 but I was told I was 75’. “How can a President with ‘football age’ achieve his goals in government?

Ritual killings in Ember months is on the rise especially in Ogun State. The Eastern people are usually synonymous with ritual killing but it seems the West has taken over, owing to the fact that alot of people have been caught with human parts in Ogun, Ondo and Ibadan of lately.

This 42-year-old man has been arrested as a fellow passengers in a bus he boarded at Sapade garage in Remo axis of the state, on December 22, noticed and alerted the Police at Isara Division following the odour emanating from the bag which aroused their suspicion.

The State’s Police PRO, Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the suspect’s arrest, said;

“Upon the information, the DPO of Isara, Yusuf Taiwo, led policemen to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested”.

“On interrogation, the suspect claimed that he was coming from Offa in Kwara State heading to Lagos where he intended to bury the baby.”

The suspect whose response wasn’t satisfactory, was taken down to Isara Division for further investigation by the Police who are now working to decipher if the baby was killed for ritual purposes. The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed iliyasu, has also ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for proper investigation.

The ongoing tussle between GTBank, EFCC and Innoson Motors is getting messier day after day. The Chief Executive Officer of Innoson Group of Companies, Chief Innocent Chukwuma has denied the allegation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, that he forged tax waiver documents.

The auto manufacturer also denied that he was ever invited by the EFCC, noting that throughout his ordeal with the agency, he was never told why he was arrested and humiliated. He also confirmed that he was arrested like a common criminal and was taken to Lagos from Enugu in shorts and singlet.

Fielding questions from newsmen at Akanu Ibiam International Airport on arrival in Enugu, yesterday 21st December, 2017, the industrialist said he was yet to decide on what he would do to the EFCC on his humiliation.

In his words;

“I thank everybody, who fought on this matter. I was surprised that in the early morning, they (EFCC operatives) jumped into my house. I thought they were kidnappers or armed robbers but finally, I noticed it was EFCC. Around 7:30 am, they said they wanted to arrest me and I followed them to their office and up till now, they have not told me what offence I committed.

“When I got there, they said I should go, but they didn’t tell me what I did. “EFCC under Ibrahim Magu has never invited me, nobody invited me, they just jumped into my house. If they invited me, I would have answered them because I am a genuine businessman. I am an industrialist, I don’t have any skeleton in my cupboard. “That’s why I asked them to tell me what I did, but up till now, they have not told me what I did.

“I don’t know for now if I will go to court against this unlawful arrest, but what I know is that they have not told me what I did. “I have never forged tax waiver documents in my life. I pay all my taxes, I pay my duties; I am a genuine businessman; I’m an industrialist. “In due time, I will tell Nigerians the whole truth about this matter. I intend to work with EFCC on this alleged investigation, so as to clear my name, which has been badly damaged, and I will follow up this so-called investigation to its logical conclusion.”

In the backdrop of the criticism aimed at the Federal Government for applying and approving the withdrawal of N2 billion from the Excess Crude Account, ECA, for the sole purpose of fighting terrorism and insurgency which they claim has been technically defeated earlier in the year, the information minister Lai Muhammed claim he was forced to declare Boko Haram "technically defeated".

Nigerians were very shocked on Friday when the Information Minister who once declared that Boko Haram had been defeated, raised an alarm of a plot by the rag-tag insurgents to launch deadly attacks on Nigerians, in the coming weeks and months.

In a statement, Lai said that members of the Muslim Brotherhood cell based in Kogi State, who had fought along Islamic State Libya, are planning to acquire bomb-making chemicals and high-calibre weapons to perpetrate acts of terror, including attacks on banks, arms depots, and prisons.

The group is an affiliate of the dreaded terrorist group, Boko Haram, and its Nigerian cell is allegedly based in Kogi State, in North-Central Nigeria.

“One Usman, an IED apprentice, left the cell some time back to join Islamic State, in Libya. The new desire to acquire IED precursor chemicals could suggest that Usman or other persons, may have returned from Libya and have acquired IED-making skills intended to increase the activities of the group”, he said.

The Minister, said intelligence also revealed that the group was making serious efforts to acquire sophisticated arms, including shoulder-fired rocket launchers.

However, he was asked on why he declared before that bokoharam has been defeated, he said that what he said was true and since the evidence is very clear as he obtained from chief of army staff,he came forward to announce the good work of the military

Concerning the alarm he recently raised, he also said that Further intelligence monitoring has revealed that members of the Muslim Brotherhood, are planning to forcefully free their members who are in detention in Kogi, Abuja, and Kaduna, including one Bilyaminu, an IED Expert for the group, who is now at Kuje prison”, he added.

Defunct leader, MKO Abiola’s daughter, Hafsat Abiola-Costello, has reacted to the controversy over UNILORIN law graduate, Firdaus who was denied call to bar for wearing hijab.

Hafsat Abiola-Costello is a Nigerian human rights, civil rights and democracy activist, founder of the Kudirat Initiative for Democracy, which seeks to strengthen civil society and promote democracy in Nigeria

Hafsat commended Firdaus Amasa for defending her religion and challenging the status quo in the Nigerian law school. She wrote on her Facebook:

“A law student passed all the requirements to be called to the bar but was not allowed to attend the ceremony because she refused to take off her hijab, which violates the rules of the Law School. “She knew of the rule but because she felt that it was unjust, she refused to comply. By so doing, she has chosen to challenge the status quo.

“If she succeeds, the Law School will change the rule. If she fails, she would either have to comply in order to be called to the Bar in Nigeria or give up her dream of being a lawyer here.

“Wish we would all be like Firdaus in pursuit of the world we want to live in. To stand up or take a knee and speak up against a practice or rule that we do not support. To be willing to challenge the prevailing practice, no matter the cost. After all, the problems we remain silent about are the ones we are condemned to live with.

“As we think of what gifts to give each other during this Christmas season, let us gather stories of the courageous, the stories of the scared-but-acted-anyway to share at our tables. The Nigerian Army, 4 Brigade, Benin-City says it has arrested a soldier for allegedly killing a truck driver identified as Shafiu Garba for trying to evade Army Checkpoint in Uromi. The Army noted that this was contrary to claims that the soldier allegedly killed the truck driver for his refusal to give bribe along Agbor road.

Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Capt. Mohammed Maidawa confirmed the arrest in a statement sent to Daily Post. Capt. Maidawa noted that a Regimental Board of Inquiry had been constituted to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He also commiserated with the family of the deceased, pointing out that the Nigerian Army as a “Professional Force” does not condone any act of misdemeanor by troops deployed on Internal Security Operations.

”I want to assure the general public that the Nigerian Army will continue to carry out ita operations in line with the Rules of Engagement for Internal Security Operations. “The general public particularly those plying the highways should be assured that the Brigade places high premium on the sanctity of human lives.”

Narrating how the incident happened, the Army’s Image maker claimed that the soldier on routine Stop and Search Operation allegedly shot a moving truck carrying cows which was trying to evade checks.

“Unfortunately in the process , a civilian was hit by a bullet, the victim was immediately rushed to a hospital at Uromi where he gave up. “This ugly incident resulted to protest by truck drivers who blocked Benin Express Way at Ewu junction but later cleared their trucks and normal traffic continued.”

Marriage List Given To My Hubby 10yrs Ago (N800K) Is Outrageous - Mbaise Lady Laments

This pride prize issue continues to be a subject or argument every now and then and yet something drastic has not been done to curtail it. Especially when it comes to people from the Eastern part of Nigeria; Anambra, Enugu, Abia State, Imo State ..etc.

Suffice to say, people from Imo State are worst, especially people from a town called Mbaise. I meant no disrespect but this is the truth. People from that place almost always give out their child in marriage as if they are selling them.

Vivian Emesaraonye Dimgba is a lady from Mbaise in Imo State and she has just revealed that her parents gave her husband N800,000 marriage list and that this is her father being nice. Really Most people were shocked when she revealed this and I believe those that are shocked are those from other part of the country. Becaue Igbos knows this is not shocking at all.

The pretty woman who got married 10 years ago got people talking over the revelation. Gender equality advocates have also called for the abolition of 'bride price' and 'marriage list' saying that it makes it look like the woman is nothing but an item for sale. Some say that bride price is not actually the problem, but the list which can drain a man's lifesaving.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Tuesday, said the Federal Government is unable to implement the capital votes of the 2017 budget because of lack of funds. The declaration by Mohammed was coming 24 hours after the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, told foreign visitors that the Federal Government would soon release N750 billion to fund capital projects in the 2017 budget.

Speaking during the 2018 budget defence session, at the Senate, on Tuesday, Mohammed said;

“it is not that government is deliberately withholding releases to fund the 2017 budget or starving us. It is because we do not have enough money to do that. “When budgets are made, they are made based on certain assumptions and if you are not able to get enough to meet your assumptions, there will be poor release.

“At least, there is an improvement in different sectors like the Nigeria Customs Service, while the price of crude oil is getting better. There is also more peace in the Niger Delta. So we can produce more,” .

The minister also told newsmen after appearing before the Senate Committee on Tourism that President Muhammadu Buhari was currently spearheading a programme where Africans, including Nigerians, would not need a visa to visit other African nations.

According to him, once the visa regime was liberalised, tourists would be encouraged to visit African countries. The minister said there was an improvement in visa regime in the country, adding that the current “visa on arrival programme” recently introduced by the Federal Government was working well.

“Anybody who has been observing what is happening in the creative industry, including culture, film industry, and fashion, will see that there is remarkable transformation and that is because the government has provided the enabling environment.

He also urged fellow Nigerians to contribute their own quota in making Nigeria great. I wish the looters and yahoo boys can turn a new leaf and return those money to be used for the growth and boost of the economy, he said”.

This 35 years old female pickpocket ran out of luck today, as she was nabbed while trying to steal from a man in a tricycle along Enugu road by Abiriba Street in Umuahia, Abia state.

The 35-year-old lady who confessed to being in the business for almost 2 years, said she started off in Onitsha before coming down to Abia state.

ABN reports that the lady who was beaten by mob was handed over to policemen from CPS Umuahia for proper investigation.
