Did you know him personally?

No, I do not. But it still makes me sad though. It hurts my heart.

This shows what the horrors of tribalism can do. How can a human kill another human?

This picture is horrible. All I want to do is cry. I hope this picture is NOT used as a political tool, like the picture of the young Tunisian who was killed and the young Egyptian as well.

However, it is horrible to see what happened to him. The picture is already spreading on Facebook. I rather see his picture of him while he was alive, then when he was dead.

THIS IS SO DAMN SAD! He is in a better place now. cry cry cry

After all this, PDP ridiculously rigged the election and told us to go home happy!

The election was not rigged, so stop peddling lies. Just because your candidate lost, does not mean the election was rigged. You people need to realize that.

My name is still mentioned even when I am asleep. Did I not commend the man? It is worthy of praise, even though many remained silent. What was also brought to my attention is that he is not a Hausa-Fulani, but a Nupe. How would I even know that? I don't even think I ever encountered a Nupe in my life. Nigeria a nation of 250 ethnicities and people expect me to know where the person is from. Maybe it was wrong for me to think of all Northerners as Hausa-Fulani, but do not get upset with someone who thinks they are Hausa, because that is all we hear from the Core North.

The Igbos will do just find. We had a nation once, and we can do it again. The only people in Nigeria who had a nation of our own after colonialism. The other groups cannot say that they had a functioning nation. It is as simple as that.

"Observers and many Nigerians say the vote was the most credible in Africa's most populous nation for decades and world leaders have congratulated Jonathan. But Buhari says the count was rigged and his supporters have refused to accept defeat."

There is no justification for the violence committed in that part of the country. Even if the election was rigged, even though it was not, what gave these Northern youth the right to kill innocent people. That is one thing I do not understand. Why kill innocent people who had no role in the election? That is the question we should be asking ourselves.

Chief Fani-Kayode continues to speak the truth on issues. That is why I respect the man. Buhari should find grace to accept defeat. He did not campaign in the SE/SS, but expects people to vote for him. I see this as arrogance on his part. He allowed the massive crowds in the North to fool him.

Nigeria rights group says over 500 killed in riots

By Nick Tattersall

LAGOS (Reuters) - More than 500 people were killed in post-election violence last week in the mostly Muslim north, a Nigerian human rights group said on Sunday, and it warned of further unrest during state elections.

Youths launched protests in northern towns and cities after President Goodluck Jonathan, a Christian from the south, was declared the victor of an April 16 election, defeating former military ruler and northern Muslim Muhammadu Buhari.

Observers and many Nigerians say the vote was the most credible in Africa's most populous nation for decades and world leaders have congratulated Jonathan. But Buhari says the count was rigged and his supporters have refused to accept defeat.

Nigeria's Civil Rights Congress (CRC) said more than 500 people were killed on Monday and Tuesday in three towns alone -- Zonkwa, Kafanchan and Zangon Kataf -- in the southern part of Kaduna state, one of the worst-hit areas.

"The victims were encircled, raided and hacked to death and their homes burned," CRC president Shehu Sani said in a report based on testimony from the group's members in the communities.

Churches, mosques, homes and shops were set ablaze in the rioting. Although a military-enforced curfew brought the violence under control in major cities after little more than a day, soldiers took longer to deploy to more remote towns.

Sani said the CRC -- which is based in Kaduna -- confirmed 316 dead in Zonkwa, 147 in Zangon Kataf and 83 in Kafanchan.

"Soldiers did not get there until afterwards," he said.

A tally of figures from Red Cross officials, health workers and Reuters witnesses who visited morgues showed the toll was at least 130. But that was only in a few major towns and cities, excluding those mentioned in the CRC report.

More than 40,000 people were displaced by the violence.

STATE ELECTIONS

Nigeria is home to more than 250 ethnic groups, most of whom live peacefully side by side. The majority of the Muslim population live in the north while the south is predominantly Christian, although sizeable minorities live in both regions.

Jonathan and Buhari have condemned the unrest, but fiercely contested governorship elections are due in most of Nigeria's states on Tuesday and there are fears of further violence where there are close races between the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Buhari's Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

The polls in Kaduna and Bauchi states in the north have been postponed by two days because of the security situation there.

"The CPC is being seen as a Muslim party and the PDP is being seen as a Christian party. Whichever way the election goes, there is going to be a problem," Sani said of Kaduna.

The CPC plans to go to court to challenge the presidential election result, on the grounds that the ruling party and electoral commission conspired to rig computers at collation centres and deprive him of victory.

"The facade at the polling units must be unmasked for this election to be seen for the sham that it truly was," Tunde Bakare, an evangelical pastor and Buhari's running mate in the presidential race, told reporters in Lagos on Saturday.

"No legitimate government can be formed on a stolen mandate." The results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed Jonathan had more than 22 million votes compared to around 12 million for Buhari.

Buhari should find grace to accept defeat – Fani-Kayode

By Emmanuel Aziken

Former minister of aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan and asked  the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, presidential candidate, Major General Muhammadu Buhari,  to restrain himself from inciting the country into a civil war.

While calling on Buhari to find grace to accept defeat, Fani-Kayode, in a statement, yesterday, called on the CPC candidate to nudge his supporters into giving peace a chance in Nigeria  as he warned that the alleged actions of his supporters were inimical to the survival of the country.

He said: “I congratulate President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on his victory in the presidential election  and I hereby call on General Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the  election  to sheath his sword. I also urge him to tread the path of decency and honour by calling on his supporters to stop killing people and to stop committing all these barbaric and outrageous atrocities in the north.

“The fact that he didn’t win the election proves that he has been rejected by God and the people and no amount of violence, murder, arson, intimidation, court cases, or litigation can change that. “We must give peace a chance in Nigeria and, no matter what, we must stop the bloodshed, calm everyone down and pull our nation back from the brink. Any attempt to rob President Goodluck Jonathan of his mandate will result in a reaction that would be far worse than anything that has ever been witnessed or experienced in this nation before.

“I appeal to those around General Buhari to tell him to stop all his tough talk, to cultivate the grace to accept defeat in good faith and to behave like the elder statesman that I have always believed him to be.”

Politics / Re: Nigerian Election Success Could Polish Country's Reputation by EzeUche3(m): 4:32pm On Apr 24, 2011
By most international observers the election was a success. That is why I do not understand why people continue to say the election was rigged, even though every international observer from the U.S, Europe, Africa and Asia believe that the election was the freest and fairest election that Nigeria has ever had. Even more free than the Abiola election saga. undecided

Yes, not all Hausa are bad. I have met good Hausa from Togo, Benin and Ghana. They are different from the ones found in Nigeria.

However, this man needs to be commended. But I still do not want to be in a country with them.

Ileke-IdI:

Abeg, the election was rigged, not only in the SE, but especially in the SE.

Just dont try it again in 2015. It's the SW's turn

And how do you know it was rigged in the SE? Igbos weren't going to support neither Ribadu or Buhari, so why wouldn't they support Goodluck Jonathan in such high numbers?

People are just upset that Igbos are just throwing around their political weight.

SE/SS = Unstoppable Force!

The SW cannot do it on its own. It will need either the Hausa or the Igbos help. None of the big three can do it alone.
