Dawgpound: Sheep are easy to slaughter. Igbos are not sheep. My people meet the Hausa in battle each time. Even in Kano, an Igbo will attack an Hausa if he threatens him in the very heartland of the Hausa people. My people will travel anywhere and are not afraid of danger. The Igbos in the North, know who they are dealing with. Yes, Igbo are killed in the North, but I know they will take few Northerners with them in the process. It is a simple as that. Look at the Igbos in South Africa who chased the xenophobic mobs and made a name for Nigerians in South Africa. People know not to mess with Nigerians in South Africa, because of the exploits of my brothers. |

New York Giants draft Nebraska defensive back Prince Amukamara with 19th overall pick in NFL draft BY RALPH VACCHIANO DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER On the night before the Royal Wedding, the Giants found their Prince. It seemed like a fairy tale as it was all unfolding, but the Giants ended up with one of the top defensive backs in the NFL draft when Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara surprisingly fell into their laps. He was almost universally pegged as a Top 10 selection, but somehow fell all the way to the 19th overall pick. As it was happening, the Giants' war room was stunned. When he finally reached them, it wasn't a tough call to scrap their pre-draft plans to draft an offensive lineman and take a player Tom Coughlin said "was clearly the highest-rated player (left) on the board." "This one truly was a shock," said Marc Ross, the Giants' director of college scouting. "You go through scenarios leading up to the draft, where you have somewhat unrealistic scenarios of what could happen. This one was just completely out of left field. We never thought this kid would've been still on the board at 19." "We never dreamed that he would be there at that point," added Giants GM Jerry Reese. "You get lucky like that sometimes." The Giants had done their research on the 6-foot, 206-pound corner, but since he never appeared to be a realistic option they didn't bring him in for a visit or work him out. Reese admitted they were a little concerned when he had started to fall, that perhaps they had missed something about him. In the end, though, the value was so high it out-weighed any worries – even with "need" picks like Boston College tackle Anthony Castonzo and Alabama running back Mark Ingram still on the board. "No question," Tom Coughlin said. "I mean the value of this pick, where he was ranked, there wasn't any question about the fact this player should be on the New York Giants. At one point there were about four or five players we felt real good about. Then as we got closer, there was Prince." Before that, the Giants seemed to be eyeing offensive linemen in the weeks leading up to the draft. The one they coveted most was USC tackle Tyron Smith, but as expected he was taken by the Cowboys at No. 9, long before the Giants selected. Another tackle they liked, Colorado's Nate Solder, went to New England at 17. And Florida's Mike Pouncey, the top center on the board, went to Miami at 15. Not that anyone in the Giants' war room was upset because, as Reese said, "You always need corners." That's especially true in the NFC East where the Giants play twice a year against Philadelphia's speedy duo of DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin and twice against Dallas' dynamic receiver, Dez Bryant. "I've always felt that way," Coughlin said. "You can never have enough cover guys, because if you watch the way people play today with the additional receivers. The more cover people you have the better off you're going to be." Amukamara - a descendant of Nigerian royalty, by the way - definitely fits the category of "cover people" even though he had no interceptions last season after totaling five as a junior. He did have 13 pass deflections, though, and the Giants feel he'll fit nicely in a secondary that already features two second-round picks at cornerback (Corey Webster, 2005, and Terrell Thomas, 2008) - and a first-round pick (Aaron Ross, 2007). "You always need corners, you always need pass rushers," Reese said. "Those two positions are always a need pick. So we're really excited about Prince. Again, we never thought he'd be there." Chyz*: You know who will suffer the most. Are there even many Ijaws in the North? They are mostly found in the Niger Delta. But our brothers are found everywhere. If they attack these people, you know who these animals will attack. Remember the Ndigbo has been the benefactor of Goodluck Jonathan. |

Dawgpound: Igbos do not want war. The generation that survived the war is still alive. As long as they are alive, the Ndigbo will not go to war. It is as simple as that. They are the ones who are able to prevent the generation born after the war from acting. Millions of Igbo deaths is still fresh in our psyche. |

I swear these Ijaws are trying to drag the Ndigbo into this conflict. Many people already think they are Igbo. By force they are going to bring us into this conflict, because Hausa will target Igbos and Igbos will finally join the carnage. If that indeed happens, I don't want to hear anyone from the SS bash the Igbo, because you all are dragging us into this conflict. |

Politics / Re: What The Heck Is South South? It Should Be East, West, North And South! by EzeUche3(m): 11:36pm On Apr 28, 2011 |
Instead of discussing regional affiliation, we should talk about cultural and linguistic affiliation. I always hated the term South-South. I seen it as a way of balkanizing east of the river Niger. We all know that what the FG intention was to divide the Igbo from the oil producing areas, even though Igbos have been found in those regions, before Nigeria was even created. And now you have these small clans thinking they are a different ethnicity, even though they have our names, share our culture and speak our language. How can they say they are not our ethnicity, when they speak our language and share our names? It is not like they had a language prior to the Igbo language, so what is this nonsense. Oil makes people do foolish things. Even though these people will never reap the rewards of that oil wealth that they scream so much about. One cannot live on oil alone. The people of this fictional 'South-South' do not need to be considered Igbo, since many have their own languages and culture. But the term SS is quite disheartening. |
Politics / Pdp Collapses In South West by EzeUche3(m): 11:25pm On Apr 28, 2011 |
PDP Collapses in South West By LEKE ADESERI, South West Regional Editor LAGOS—RESULTS of Tuesday’s governorship elections in three South West states of Lagos, Oyo, and Ogun stopped the ambition of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, to control any state in the region. The big wins of the day for the rival Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, came from Ogun and Oyo States, which had been under PDP’s control in the last four years. The development was the last straw that broke PDP’s back after they lost Ekiti and Osun states to the ACN through judicial pronouncements. Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala lost to the ACN’s candidate, Senator Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi, while Senator Ibikunle Amosun will on May 29 take over the governorship of Ogun State from Otunba Gbenga Daniel who has spent the mandatory two terms. Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola is the only governor in the region that was re-elected. He defeated his PDP rival with a margin in excess of one million votes. Declaring the result, the INEC governorship returning officer for Lagos State, Professor Akinbolawa Akinterinwa, announced that Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola polled 1,509,113 votes while the PDP governorship candidate, Dr. Ade Dosunmu came second with 300,450 votes and Mr. Odulana Olurotimi of the Labour Party, LP, polled 10, 221 to come third in the contest. In Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the ACN gubernatorial candidate became the governor-elect after polling 377,487 votes to emerge winner. Gen. Adetunji Olurin (rtd), the PDP governorship candidate, came second with 188,698 votes, his Peoples Party of Nigeria, PPN, counterpart, Mr. Gboyega Isiaka, scored 137,051 votes to place third. ACN’s winning streak continued to the various Houses of Assembly except in Ondo State where the ruling Labour Party had an impressive showing. INEC in Osun State, for instance, declared ACN candidates as winners of the House of Assembly election in the 26 constituencies, while the results from Ekiti showed that ACN candidates won all the three re-scheduled senatorial districts seats in the state. The party equally won the six seats in the Federal constituencies and 24 of the 26 members of the state House of Assembly, while PDP won in the remaining two constituencies. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/04/pdp-collapses-in-south-west/ |

THE AMAKA: Frankly my only concern is the Ndigbo. As long as they do not claim Iguocha. I am ok. We Igbos have Onitsha, Enugu, Aba, Owerri, Umuahia Awka, Nnewi, Asaba, Iguocha etc. They can have their Warri, Yenagoa , Ikot Ekpene and Calabar. We do not claim these cities nor will we ever will. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now people please do not derail the thread. |

seeme2: Remember that Jonathan needed the support of the Ndigbo. If he didn't have the support of the Ndigbo. He would not have won. Point blank A minority can only win if he has the support of one of the big three. That is the only way a minority can win in Nigeria. It is as simple as that. |
