DuBLINGreenb: for all you bigots against Prophet Joshua answer this Why should an aircraft fly past a building 4 times?I use to own a house in Hounslow near Heathrow airport about a thousand aircrafts including the biggest jetliner passed over the houses each day, so close often you can see the pilot from the ground and a pin has collapsed. Some of you are as stupid and dumb as your cash and carry prophet. In a sane world, he should be facing manslaughter charge now for erecting an unsafe building. |
Man of gods, you can see who will die next year but couldn't see mysterious Boko Haram attack? No one attacked you other than Nigeria impunity way of cutting corners in everything, like building a structure well beyond the remits of its planning permission. When a storey building is carrying a structure meant for a bungalow, it will eventually collapse. It's understandable you have to tell your legion of moronic followers something but this one sound very stupid and embarrassing pastor. |
CyberWolf: where were you when NEF threatened to sue former COAS for committing genocide in the name of fighting terrorism?...were you not among those supporting nyako when he accused Jonathan of committing genocide?I am in different league from you, as I live in realistic world, not you fantasy world of Nigeria sectional politics, where red is called white because that's how Nigeria operates. I support Nyako all in your dreams. Me supporting a Nigerian politician? You need your head examined. Who doesn't know that Nigerian military commits atrocities even in times of peace? |
So our dearest man of gods now runs a jet leasing business. I would love to see his jet leasing business certification or don't run one with license in Nigeria? What is the job of central bank again for the government if something as serious as arm is now paid on cash and carry basis without an invoice. SA don't even know that a big country like Nigeria is coming to buy arm like they are buying vulture head at Jankara market. Who would have thought you will mix a pastor, jet, millions of dollars and armed smuggling in the same breath and sentence, yet you see and hear morons defending the indefensible. |
It seems that Dr Shem Zagbai just got himself a very good plump and well paid job, he doesn't even have to do anything in work terms. While their hopeless cheerleaders fight themselves on the internet. Helpless generation. |
APContherun: Well said. How can you effectively defeat boko haram when they have sympathizers aplenty in Northern Nigeria? A soldier friend of mine on sick leave from Borno State confided in me that many of their instructors at Jaji are boko haram members. Even among the top echelon of the armed forces are boko haram members who for various reasons collaborate among themselves to sabotage the war effort. The US knows this but would rather gloss over it.Osama wasn't operating from some forest right inside the U.S soil unlike Boko Haram right inside Nigeria territory, drives in a convoy and based inside a known hide out in some forest. Osama was in hidding for years and once they knew where he was, they went straight after him and got him, Boko Haram now has a territory inside Nigeria and flying their flag. When you lot shut up supporting an inept and incompetent leadership who still believe that the insurgency was all about him becoming a president. Those who called Chibok kidnapping a hoax for many weeks until the whole world was flabbergasted with their ineptness. They spent time chasing shadows of blackmailing some leaders of the opposition and calling them names, instead of facing the real enemy. They budget billions year after year on defence but Boko Haram still out guns their military and keeps them on the run. Jonathan incompetent and playing politics with this problem from the outset gave Boko Haram the chance, time and confidence to grow out of control. |
It's funny how those that used the media to become what they became always turn on the same media when that media turn the search light on them. Courting the media is like courting a bee, while you enjoyed the honey, always be aware that the bee still can sting you unexpectedly. Funny how he claims to heal the lame and blind but can't heal his own marriage first. |
Who give fard about your appointment to few individuals that benefit them and their immediate families? Igbos needs urgent investments in modern infrastructures that help any individual with strength, talent, skill and motivation to thrive, not prime jobs for a selected few. |
Raiders: we are in a free country. A woman can marry as many husbands she like as long as the men agree to share her. Its not a sin for a man to have many wives even the bible say you can marry many wives as long as you can take care of themName one Christian mentioned in the bible that has more than one wife? I don't know the bible you saw what you just quoted. |
etebefia: did you say the owner of likembe blog is a white man? he must be a super guru with his analysis of those many African musics and musicians, i think you must be the one that provided information on igbo tracks and musician.Yeah, John is a white guy. Though he ask help from African like me to help in most of the stuff there and his wife helps him too, but he is still great. Yes I wrote most of the Igbo and Ibibio stuff for him. |
etebefia: wow mr eziachi, it's great having someone with great knowledge of african music like you around this thread, please i want to know if you have some of the music that i need in your collection? 1. I believe by Nelly uchendu (the song she made for jim nwobodo) 2. Aiye le by either orlando owoh or ik dairo (am not sure who made the song) 3. Old school morocco maduka 4. Things fall apart soundtrack by nelly uchendu. Thank you, and waiting for your reply.I have this music but am unable yet put them from lp to mp3 format. But I will advise you to try this website or weblog: Likembe, afrocolombia, grooveshark or if you have a mediafire account, try it, there are many there. |
OrlandoOwoh: Did Osadebe play any instrument? According to Benson Idonije, a hotel gathered Osadebe, Lawson and Uwaifo to play at night in the hotel. Lawson and Uwaifo played trumpet and guitar respectively while Osadebe was just a vocalist.Osadebe can play guitar but decided in the end to concentrate on vocal only especially in public. it's the same with Sir Warrior, I have seen him played guitar during a sound check to my amazement. Sometimes I wonder how someone can write a song without able to play guitar or keyboard and still call themselves a musician. |
etebefia: check out likembe.net you'll love it.John Beadle, the owner of the Likembe blog, is a personal friend of mine, and I helped him a great deal with many of the stuff there especially in the Highlife side. A white guy but he is a guru in Africa music, I call him an Igbo man in a white skin. He is married to an Igbo lady from Awo omama in Oru. If any of you is interested in highlife music, check out that website. |
Onyiibazz: Sir i must say you're very knowledgable in african style of music, good to have you here. Am a guitarist though i play mostly Nigerian highlife, i just discovered the music called soukous some months back and i've been trying to learn the guitar lines and pattern. I do enjoy congolese music but the language is a big barrier! The Congolese language is Lingala. Very rich like Igbo and Yoruba but not as loud as the later or high pitched as the former. Lingala is like Owerri Igbo accent, it's made for music, very melodic. |
I remembered you boasting to be one of the founding fathers of the same APC at one point. What a m*or*on of a man! |
makazona: thank u very Nna anyi Eziachi for that expose...op u r healthy sirThank you sir. Am doing great. |
Eyop: Lol.- If you like Kanda Bongo Man, you will love Zitany Neil. Allain Kounkou derived his style from Zitany. Do you know that Awilo Logomba's big brother was one of the original member of Zaiko Langa Langa? and briefly played with Orchestre Veve too, he died in a car crash while touring in Zimbabwe in the early 80s. Do you know about a special genre from Cameroon other than the well knowm Makosa? Its called Bikutsi. The best Bikutsi genre musician I can tell you is Nkodo Sitony. Check him out, you will be blown away. Look for the track Mayange wa first. |
GudluckIBB: Eziachi.pls I'm going to send you a mail tomorrow as well .You guys are genius in deep rooted african songsThanks, though I have lived in Europe for more than 40 years now, but I have never left African music and roots reggea. Ask me anything about African music especially Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Mali, Congolese or East African beat (Kenya, Zimbabwe, Uganda) I will do my best to answer you to the best of my ability, as long as it's pure African music. Having said that, what I appreciate sin music is the effort, talent and creativity. One of my great niece visited me from home when I had my leg amputation recently and gave me some modern music by some artist I never knew before (Mr Raw, Ramsome and ND Stanley Nnorom) I actually enjoyed some of the tracks from their albums because of the effort I felt that went into their works. Tracks like Turu Ugo by Mr Raw was very well written and produced, I particularly like. Also Arabanko by ND Stanley Nnorom was also great. |
Eyop:I cant tell you how disappoiunted I am with Sir Warriors children, especially Ajuzieogu, who I believe has a great music talent like his papa but they are very lazy gus. I was attending an Igbo union party in Los Angeles in 2010 and I was told that Ajuziego will be playing and I was so excited to see one of great Sir Warrior kids play live. Only for him to turn up with mic in his hand singing over his father's records with no band, just CD playing in a set. I was so disappointed and angry and I called him afterward and gave him a piece of my mind to go back home to Owerri and do his dad proud, sit down and write so serious highlife stuff if he is to be taken seriiously, not singing in parties collecting few dollars, here and there, when he had a name tag most people will die for in terms of music gentre of highlife. He apologised, lol . And I believe he is still living in American singing in African bars and Igbo parties. Great disappointment. Don't get me started with his big brother Uche, who along with Dan Satch kept soiling the great image of Oriental Brothers franchise with their endless cheap video production of all the past great works of the band. Worst part being, Dan Satch pretending to be a singer. ![]() |
Eyop: May the soul of Jean Baron RIP. That's the album you will find those tracks you mentioned.Lol. Am listening to the LP now, which I dusted few minutes ago. Great stuff |
Lanceslot: Thanks for the info. You are welcome bro. I am afraid that the future is not bright for the heritage of our traditional musics, judging by some of the comments here. Even my scottish wife knew so much about highlife music more than most folks here, which is a shame really, but they knew every hip hop artist or music. |
Eyop: Great now i confirm that you are well knowledgable about these artist. However do you by any chance know what killed Jean Baron? I have searched for information on that but none.Over indulgence I think killed Jean Baron as with many African musicians. Too much smoking and drinking, endless touring to make ends meet due to piracy of their great works without taking care of their personal health, I think he developed kidney problems and wasn't discovered in time and treated swifly. My fovourite of his tracks are Mamie lolo, pardon and Patalon Mariba. I met Arlus Mabele in Paris in 2005, we had been friends since then. He was very sick for a while. |
Eyop: @ Eziachi i appreciate your comment. Well it depends on how your classify them but i still see them as highlife but the proper genre as you rightly said is either Soukous,Rumba,Zouk, etc. E.g Koffi Olomide is the King of Rumba,Monique seka and pierette Adams falls under Zouk/soukouss depending on the track played.I agreed with you, it's very mucky at the moment, but in the past any music with keyboard is a way of identifying a music that isn't highlife etc. Until Sir Warrior introduced keyboard in 1981 and many Ghana highlife musician based in Aba and Onitsha did too, groups like Ashanti dance band, Okukuseku, City Boys, Mpese Mpese etc. |
Eyop: [b]Lol.Great stuff. I have a every single LP album of T.P.K OK Jazz led by Franco in the day when Madilu System, Sam Mangwana and Josky Kiambukuta was their three leading singers. Unfortunately Madilu System died in 2008, I think. Orchestre Veve and Orchestre Lipua Lipua were great. These guys led the foundation of faster pace sound of the 80s/90s created by the Paris base musicians like Loketo, Yondo Sister, Kofi Olomide, Logomba, Wenge Musica, Soukous Stars etc. |
It's difficult to get a pure and solid hundred percent highlife presently from crop of musicians this days. But I discovered a guy called Orji moore. His sound is great, his perculiar voice is different and the sound production is crisp. His Ika Igbo accent may be too difficult for most Igbo folks to understand at first but I think that the guy has talent. Try him on youtube and tell me what you think. |
Eyop: Brother i really do and am glad to have someone on the forum that enjoys the music same as i do. I think Diblo dibala is a fantastic Guitarist that's why they nicknamed him Machine Gun. There are other artiste i didn't list such as Pepe Kalle,Alain Kounkou,Alain Makaba, etcDiblo Dibala is great, especially when he was leading the Loketo franchise along with Arlus Mabele, late Jean Baron. Mack Mackay. There are great guitarist like Lokasa Yabongo, Dally Kimoko, Franco (O.K JAZZ) |
Lanceslot: Osedebe, Oliver de Coque, Emeka Morocco, Ozoemene Nsugbe; The man that sang 'ada na egbu azu' ...... I enjoy listening to highlife more than our circular music.Morocco and Ozoemena Nsugbe plays folklore or egwu Ekpili or ekpiri, its not highlife. Oliver started with folklore in the 60s in Aba, but abandoned it in 1976 when he embraced and branched into the highlife genre, after learning how to play guitar. |
isaco: I am a gospel highlife artist myself, I have my own Album presently on video, I perform in any occasion. I love highlife artist like Orlando Owo, Ebenezer Obey, KSA, Shina peters, Oliver , Bright chimeze, watch my videos www.youtube.com/my_videos?guid=&hl=en&gl=DE&client=mv-googleOnly Orlando Owo and Oliver de coque among your list can be called highlife. Bright Chimezie plays Rumba, a slight copy of congolese rumba but he chose to call it zigima. |
newguy1: Ebenezer obe n king sunny ade did d deeds 4 me men asin y growing up.can do without listening 2dem daily. Shout out 2 maself 4 making ma first fp.wait o sunny ade na juju him dey sing?Ebenezer Obey started with highlife (e.g Bebemi Oluwa) but later branched into full Juju genre. Sunny Ade was Juju from day one. |
makazona: Some Highlife music Notables.Onyeka Onwenu doesn't play highlife. You can call her music, Nigeria or African pop. Sonny Okosun plays no highlife, he plays also afropop of afrobeat. |
Eyop: Interesting...I love highlife and as a matter of fact am an 100% Old skool person and don't belong to the 21st century kind of music(musics that doesn't last maximum 6months no one hears of it again). My favourites are musics from my DRC brothers and so many other African music not necessarily Nigerian artiste. The below are some of my favourite artist that i have their albums right from the 60's till date:I love your collections too and I had almost every single album of all of them, but they are not highlife. They are Rumba/Soukous in genre terms. |
BuddahMonk: This oldman i thought you have grown some greyhair but i never knew they were sprays from the babershop. You can eat and drink Nigeria tribal propaganda defense of rogues, that your choice, not mine. Your confusion of understanding how a vice can be corrupt and president isn't shows and underpins your lack of knowledge of politics. Abubakar Balewa died a very poor man with nothing but most of his ministers were stinking with corrupt riches, especially Festus Okotie Ebo. But Balewa was too weak to curtail them and paid with his life when the army strucked because he turned a blind eyes. The same for Shagari, he turned a blind eyes while the likes of Dikko, Ekwueme, Saraki, Akinloye, Uba Ahmed, Ibrahim Tahir, Ame Ebutte and others did as they pleased with public money. |
