Whenever Messi wants to play, he is unplayable. Argentina wants to play tomorrow, Argentina will die on the pitch tomorrow. If we can overcome the Argentina team of tomorrow I say it again emphatically no team will be able to stop us. Colombia and Uruguay are not even it. Will Colombia pass through Senegal, will Uruguay pass through Portugal, I doubt it
darkelf:
Still too hasty.

I want to see us overcome teams like Uruguay and Colombia.

Now, these are teams that play fantastic football

We win tomorrow's game, we fly to final. The game of our live is tomorrow, it will be tough but we shall survive. Thank you Morocco and Iran for teaching us that nothing is impossible. What a night of exciting football. Gracias!!

Yes ooo, I think we should try that. However, I think it will not be wise to change a winning team.
MetalJigsaw:
An Iwobi-Musa pairing upfront is the best against Argentina. Forget Nacho.. that guy is struggling just like ighhalo.

Iwobi playing behind Musa will surely torment the Argentine defense.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 9:40pm On Jun 24, 2018
I am so sorry never meant to upset you, however I felt insulted by some words in your write up. We are both civilized people that want the best for our national team we do not need to upset each other. Sorry Safari babe
safarigirl:
what you like should not concern me.

My concern is that someone has sat down in his house and assumed I am pained and hateful. You can call me a mumu or anything, but pain and hate are two emotions I am incapable of feeling.

So, fabyom would do well to not make baseless assumptions. Dazall

Your heart is filled with so much pain and hatred!! Why?
safarigirl:
go and tell this to Ola Aina and Mikel Agu who are currently watching the World Cup from home after contributing one way or another.

Please, give us another line. Nobody deserves respect for anything, you perform you get praised, you don't, you get dragged

Even the great Messi is constantly dragged by Argentines for performing below par, you dey here dey find respect for Ighalo. Who be Ighalo?
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 8:15pm On Jun 24, 2018
I am not opposed to that but this guy one way or the other contributed to our qualification so he deserves some respect. He is neither my brother or relative but he is my country man we should learn to support and encourage our players not bring him done attitude.
JSMMUYIWA:
Don't take it personal too.
Everyone knows we don't have a Ronaldo in our team, neither Germany in 2014,but they went on to win the World Cup.
We don't have to see the odds.
It's best to bring out the best things out, even with limited resources, but this could be done by basing things on merit.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 7:43pm On Jun 24, 2018
You are taking things personal. I am just trying to tell you that none of our strikers have been spectacular. The Musa you are clamouring for was not before Iceland game. After Iceland game everyone started calling for Musa and Iwobi. Take a chill pill and be cultured when addressing people cos you lack manners.
safarigirl:
TRASH

Who is clamoirong for Iheanacho? The problem with you people is that you always assume that because we don't want a certain player, it automatically means we want Iheanacho. Did I not say this morning that we should play Musa and Iwobi? Can you make an opinion without bringing in your nonsense pettiness?

We are clamouring for anybody but Ighalo, because Ighalo brings bad luck to the WHOLE team. Nobody cares about chances that never get into the net.

The same Ighalo that has offered nothing to the national team in almost a year, is who you people are shamelessly clamourong for. Emphasis on SHAMELESSLY, because, if you have small shame, you will not mention Ighalo here.

The last time Ighalo scored for us is last year August. In many other countries, a forward with such an abysmal record would not even be at the World Cup, but here we are managing Ighalo and you are still yarning rubbish about aerial threat and hold up play.

May God deliver you people from the spirit of losing, because it is only someone who likes losing thay will still be mentioning Ighalo to start for us at this point.

I once said here that Ighalo is a good player, his only problem is that he is unlucky. You think football is solely about talent and technique, it is NOT. That is why Ighalo must be on that bench, whether it is for Kelechi or Musa or Iwobi.

No go Twitter yarn this kain trash before dem use swear destroy your destiny. It is only on Nairaland that you can mention Ighalo like this, even at that, only on this thread. Don't mention that name in the presence of football-loving Nigerians who want to win
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 5:25pm On Jun 24, 2018
I am not saying Ighalo is exceptional. However, Iheanacho that you clamouring for has also done next to nothing this year in the National Jersey. All the games he has played for us he had just one shot on target, that tame shot against DRC. Against Iceland he had no shot on target, no assist, one shot ridiculously off target, no area ball won, he did practically nothing better than Ighalo in that match. However, when Ighalo came in, he had One shot on target, won two area balls yet you are clamouring for someone who was begging for a tap in to start ahead of Ighalo. #Sentiment
safarigirl:
you people should stop yarning dust

Please, what are all these good things Ighalo has done?

See as you just dey talk like say Ighalo don score six goals this year alone and he just made one mistake yesterday.

Please, tell us all the good things Ighalo has done that should make us overlook his errors.

I see some saying that there are some players who play badly and excuses are made for them, yes, because we know that they don't play badly normally, so, it is easy to make excuses for them. We cannot say the same for Ighalo

Please, give me just five good things Ighalo has done in the past year to exonerate himself from constant blames.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 2:49pm On Jun 24, 2018
One of the many reasons we won against Iceland was Ebeuhi. He opened up the left channel for us and freed up Musa and also vicmo on the right channel as they began to commit more men to mark him, Musa and Etebo. The only error was the penalty and anybody can make such mistake. Practically our wing back shut down the Icelandic attackers in the 2nd half due to Ebehuis presence.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 2:33pm On Jun 24, 2018
Supported! Ighalo and Musa should lead our attack. Then second half when they are tired bring Iheanacho and Iwobi to finish them with movement. Chikena!!
komekn:
Our young inexperienced goalkeeper is not comfortable rolling it out from the back.

He will most often kick it out, particularly as I suspect Argentina will play a HIGH PRESSING game against us. When a ball is kicked out its mostly 50/50. However, with Ighalo you have physicality and aerial ability that ball against Argentina's defenders will become a 70/30 in our favour. Add hold up play with Musa operating either from behind or ahead of him.

That creates many options particularly when you add the pace of Musa.

KC represents no Aerial threat, no physicality and as a result he can be buzzing around with no end product or impact.

Etebo is ESSENTIAL he is the only player in my opinion that can do a man marking job on Messi and succeed.

I haven't seen much of Simi and can't say much about him. His little cameo when he came on for about 8 minutes didn't show anything outstanding.

So my first preference is Ighalo without question.

I am so scared of Tuesday's game. I think the Argentines will come at us in full force. It will not be easy, I say it again it will be very difficult for us to get a draw. They have the personnel to hurt us.
However, they cannot continue to beat us till eternity one day one day that will change and Tuesday might just be the day
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 1:24pm On Jun 24, 2018
How can someone even suggest a striker to pass such a ball. If I am a coach and my striker pass such a ball, I will put him on the bench straight. The good Joe stop falling hand abeg. Why you no show us Messi, Ronaldo del Nima, Maradonas goal. Those are the goals that separate the best players from the average ones.
Bolowolowo:
The picture you showed of Musa showed that he could easily roll the ball ahead of the keeper given that the keeper had just dropped. Passing it to Nacho would've delayed the attack and give that Iceland defender more time to mark him. In the interest of time and scoring, what Musa did was actually more convenient.

Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 9:03am On Jun 23, 2018
Yes he messed up that pass at the centre circle but the one you guys are blaming him for he did the right thing. Iwobi should have been more clinical. Also Iwobi got a ball around the Iceland Area he was suppose to pass to musa or etebo but he delayed until he was dispossessed. Why are you guys not blaming him for that.
AIG07:
The initial word I used Was PLAY.

One thing you guys don't know is that seconds count in football. If you don't make the right decision at the right time then forget it. He did well to win the ball but spoiled everything by holding longer. Iwobi was already there asking for the pass. But he waited few more seconds which allowed our opponents to fall back and gets into position and that was the end of a potential goal for us and an assist for him.
This he did repeatedly. One was a pass he got at the center circle which he just needed to pass to a running Musa who was trying to get into space as we were 2 against 2. But baba held for so long till he was fouled. That's why we don't score often when he plays.

IIghalo is good at holding up play but his timings are bad and so let the team down. Hope you get it Sir.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 8:41am On Jun 23, 2018
Quite surprised when someone said Iceland had 8 shots on target in the first half. I had to watch the first half numerous times again to be sure if I actually watch the right match loll.
We were average and quite impressive. We had some sleek movement that could have given us an aim at goal but kelechi and musa were muscled off the ball and just when we need the last connecting pass to create something we miss. So average but quite impressive in the first half
Martz101:
We were not poor in the First half, football is like a game of chess, that first half was tactical. Rohr don't want to make mistakes and second half he decided to take all the risk he can.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 8:35am On Jun 23, 2018
I don't know what Ighalo did to you guys go and watch the match again. You guys are so biased. He fought for that ball got it wanted to pass to Musa but a defender arrived, he then passed to Iwobi who made a mess of that chance. You guys are not blaming Iwobi but busy blaming the creator of the chance. Astonishing!!
AIG07:
so happy Musa was not subbed cos he was on his way to an Hat-trick. Which he could have gotten if Ighalo had play with him.

Iceland just need a win against us tomorrow and they are home and dry cos their last match will be against already qualified Croatia. Also Argentina we see us as beatable and can still qualify. Everyone still in the game.
If we scale through this group stage obstacle. We will get to the Semi final.

People complained here when Iheanacho was used to top against S.A and Algeria if you remember that was why he was benched for Ighalo against Cameroon. No doubt Iheanacho is good as SS but as a top 9 for us against Iceland he will not be noticed on the field. Believe me. I love Nacho but he cannot top for us simple! I will prefer Simmy.
tbaba1234:
How many minutes did he play as a striker and how many did Ighalo play as a striker?

In terms of ability to finish chances, Iheanacho is the best in the team. Top 9 might not be his best position but he will score when the chance comes.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 5:25pm On Jun 21, 2018
how many minutes? He started against Poland, Congo came in against Czech and Croatia. That is 230/360 minutes without a goal and only one shot on target.
tbaba1234:
How many minutes have you played him?

Iheanacho is more mobile and more clinical..

If i play Ogu, it will not be in defence
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by fabyom: 5:00pm On Jun 21, 2018
baba but Iheanacho too has not scored for us recently and I think Etebo on the LWB will compliment Ogu. I opt for Ogu cos of his composure and physical presence. Vicmo is not discipline in SE jersey so playing him as R/LWB will be suicidal.
tbaba1234:
Iheanacho is far more clinical than Ighalo. I would not start Ogu in defence.

This must be the joke of the century! The formation against Croatia put me off from watching the match. Till now, I have watched only the first 20 mins. If this formation by @ColinUdoh is real then it is quite unfortunate. I am so angry and sad right now cos for the first time in my life I might not be watching a SE world cup match live.
This team held so much promise, so much resources were expended on them yet yet they might be the worse SE team of all ..., ...

I checked the world cup team of the week but Kouyate is missing however I can see Etebo on the list. Am I missing something.

Maybe Idowu for Etebo and Ndidi moves to Etebo's position. With Ogu and Etebo on that side, it will be impenetrable.
