If your Indian, Lebanese or Nigerian boss in Corporate Nigeria used words like "shut up", the same does not apply everywhere. The corporate culture differs across different countries. In Corporate America, you don't use words carelessly to address people. Many CEOs and Senior Managers have resigned because they used harsh words to address people and were prosecuted for it. So, don't sit in your bedroom and write things you know nothing about. By the way, it is "corporate" and not "corperate"

I have always said that if you believe every word on every transcript you see here, you are fooling yourself. A lot of transcripts here are padded, adulterated or fitted with words to make them sound interesting. In some cases, it is very easy to spot such transcripts and in other cases, it may be difficult. A few days ago, someone mentioned that she paused the VO to tell the VO how she fell into the gutter to gather her visa documents that were not asked during the interview. A VO that has no time to listen to more than three reasons why you chose a school suddenly had time to pause her interviews to listen to the ordeal of a visa applicant and how she fell into a gutter and prayed and fasted before arriving for the interview.

That transcript (and this one) are some of the many padded transcripts here on NL. Take it or leave it.

You probably have never been at the top rung of the corperate world! You probably have not been under a choleric Boss. You probably don't know the corperate world leadership circle sometimes employ harsh rhetoric and tactic to get in to people's head to get the job done and deliver expected result! Yet, men of calmness climb the rung and reach the top!

If you don't want to accept some sort of embarrassment, insults, or arrogance--in the process of pursuing and attaining your dreams--you cannot attain those dreams and be successful. Do you know the VO would have been more enraged and then issue refusal if the student had reacted negatively or said something awful in return to the "shut up"? But he was calm and took the "shut up" as though, "well, I have been told something more bad before now. It is fine!" This is what it means to be psychologically calm in the midst of a system that is set up to catch visa applicant with intention to migrate to the US!

Life is not about what we deserve, for if we did not create ourselves, we deserve nothing! Life is about what we want and what you want to give, and your attitude to the challenges you'll face in getting and giving those things.

Hmmmmmm. Where will I start from? God was really involved in my admission process and visa.
I was initially denied by the school I picked (University of Missouri, Columbia). I wrote to the graduate coordinator and asked why I was denied they said my overall Gp was low, so I told them that on the school site it was said that the Gp would be based on the last two years. They said they would review my application again, and behold I was accepted.

After My thumbprinting I turned to my left to wait for where to be directed to by the CGI because 5 windows were open. As I turned to wait for the CGI a female VO (Young lady, she was quite beautiful she should be in her mid twenties) directly opposite me just gestured with her hand that I should come forward, I was still arranging the other documents from my thumbprinting.

V.O: before I arrive pass me your I-20 ( I guess she saw the Ups envelope with me so she knew I was a student)
ME: okay am coming(while looking for it, she requested my passport since it was in my hand)
VO: Where are you going to (She started typing, I didn't hear her properly)
ME: I didn't get you ma (I moved my ear closer to the glass cos she was speaking Very fast)
VO: She repeated the question
ME: University of Missouri Columbia
VO: What are you going to study?
ME: Mechanical Engineering, sorry Master Mechanical Engineering (I handed her my I-20)(My program was actually Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering but only M.E was written on my I-20)
VO: what have you been doing
ME: I finished my Bsc August 2017, went for my service January to Dec 2018 (cuts in)
VO: How many schools did you apply to?
ME: 5 Schools

VO: Listen, I was talking and you were not listening, listen, listen ( She was speaking like a Boss and somehow angry)
ME: am sorry ma (I dropped my documents and drew closer to the window fixing my gaze on her)
VO: Take this white paper with you and drop it with your passport at the DHL drop off point. You are to include a bank statement or liquid funds that shows $36,783. Liquid funds pls.
ME: Okay ma(I continued putting my documents in my Ups envelope they were spread/scattered on the tile b4)
VO: Please leave this place, go and arrange your file outside, there is a table outside pls( Authoritative and harsh yet somehow polite)
ME:OKAY

Immediately I called my uncle and explained what happened, he told me come immediately, went to the bank and Got his two fixed deposits of 10M and 15M plus his bank statement balance of 1.4M my fee requirement was 13.5M.

I called time2win and asked him if fixed deposit was a liquid fund because the Bank Manager said the F.D was Open Market, I said yes that F.D was accepted but he wasn't too sure if it was a liquid fund. I used it like that anyways submitting the documents the same day.

I was placed on A.P when I checked my status on Tuesday. This afternoon my status changed to ISSUED!

Na God do am oh.

There is no need to bring very personal part of yourself and husband's work situation here. It's not going to help you! The decision you're trying to make can only be made by you and your husband. You could go to the embassy together and get refused or approved. Nobody can tell you what will happen. You cannot take both roads. You have to decide whether to go with your husband, baby and see what happens, or you leave baby and husband behind and go alone. Awwww Kay! Didn't expect you'd come here and share your experience so that others can learn and be informed. This is a benevolent act! I had said I will add my own comment when I settle down, but now that you have share this, I hope they will make the right decision.

My Advice for her like what Brown said is to go alone. I had my interview today, it was perfect but the home ties worked against me. The VO was reluctant to deny me because i spent about 10-15 mins without any question being asked just a few questions about how I chose the school and if I wrote any standardized exam. I have been to the US before and also my wife and we even have a baby with their passport but the VO saw it as an opportunity to migrate.

If it has been working before, now the probability of success is low. Maybe for nice VO she might get approved.

Kindly share your interview experience and the transcript. To reapply, you'll need to pay another visa fee, fill another DS160, and schedule a new date for interview. While you do these, it's important to check yourself. What I normally advise students who have been refused is that, you need to recollect and assess your performance during the interview. Were you confident? Is there any question you'd have answered better and differently? Did you answer the questions well? Is my choice of program in line with the degree I'm going for?

Share your interview transcript. You might want to do that before you go ahead and pay another visa fee.

You see what I was saying? If you no share transcript now, you go make everyone believe say na VO fault.

BOLD 1: So, you did not take a leave last year during your application? That was not a good reason and I feel you set a sad impression from that point. You can say stuff like "I couldn't articluate my study plan properly to the VO and I was rejected". A follow-up question might be "So, tell me about your study plan". Then, you can climb the wheel and murder your interview there.

BOLD 2: You nailed your coffin at this point. You should have connected your jobs to this current degree. Something like " I did my NYSC and due to my passion in accounting, I taught high school students basic knowledge on bookkeeping, cashflows etc(don't lie o! Make sure it's true). Thereafter, I secured a job as an Account Manager in Bleep where I prepared annual financial records and performed several accounting functions like X, X and X".

Since your dad is financing the trip, I don't think the funding was a problem.

Also, ignore all those things they told you about applying at 7am bla bla bla. Prepare well for your visa interview and you will nail it even though you do it in the middle of the night.

I dont know if this has been asked before but what is the general rule on entry to the US? My school is in Alabama but I want to spend some time with a relative in Louisiana before heading to Alabama. Will this be frowned upon on the PoE? I did mention that I had a relative in Louisiana during my interview so I personally dont think it's a problem. I just want to confirm from the house before booking my flight.

Long time Twoods! The last time you and I had misunderstanding here, I told myself I'd not get on any heat conversation with you. I will manage to keep my word. But I must say a few things about the comment below.

You said you're a Christian as if you've to tell people who doesn't know you before they know your faith. You also hit the original poster hard by saying he falsely acknowledge God the visa approval you know nothing about how he started and ended to the point of the approval. How did you know his acknowledgement of God is false? A true Christian would not have used this set of words on another Christian because he reverences his Creator for a success that means a lot to him. Who're you to even quote that part of his post?

Yes, you're right that he did basically everything his counterparts in Europe or Asia would do to get the visa, yet, acknowledging God is something any stable, grateful, happy Christian would have done. And you come out here to hit it as if it's wrong! He owns all the right in heaven and earth to call his approval a "miracle". Is it not a miracle in a country good and genuine people don't get their way (even after hardwork, and doing all the right things the right way) because of the way our situation is? Is it not a miracle that a man from the largest black nation on earth and one of the poorest, is going to the best nation on earth? Is it not a miracle that you, Twoods, got your F1 visa smoothly, which was a huge opportunity that gave you a strong foundation you harnessed to become who you're today? Why not return home and see the difference? Maybe! You even live and eat in a country that even its founding fathers acknowledged God and miracle at one point or the other during the founding phase! I think you don't know what a miracle is!

As for saying he did others disservice, you're also wrong. Blatantly wrong! In fact, you're seeing all these religious stuffs from a broken perspective that you need to fix before you can truly earn the badge to correct others. And you need to fix it, because it's neither helping you nor the people you think this guy has done disservice to.

If you love God with your heart, mind, and soul--as the Christ you said you follow commanded—you'd have known and understand perfectly well that it's every Christian responsibility to reverence God! Some of the students you see on this forum are first-generation! Some of their parents did not get to travel abroad to study. I know a student here who was the first in his entire family—from Dad's and Mom's side--to enter the airplane and travel abroad to study. You will call it nothing because you easily got your visa. But for him, this is a feat—a record his children will live to read and be proud of. How stupid of me would it be if I say he should shut up and sees it as normal? It's not normal! He did great and that's it! He should be thankful to his Creator—even if this student is not righteous or has garment of sin on! How's that your business? How has that done any student here a disservice?

You cannot judge anybody religious/spiritual experience, no matter what you claim to know, the level of your education, age, or the social stigma you claim you're correcting. You're an educated man! Read the history of the country that has bathed you with opportunities you use to have come this far in life. The US was founded by men and women who had strong faith in God and influenced by it. Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Rockefeller, Washington, etc. If 32 years old Thomas Jefferson who's said to have written the Declaration of Independence is here, I'm sure he would be laughing at your comment. The "God factor" was part of his life as it was for others. He prayed and write about "God". This was when America was under the influence of Great Britain. And Thomas was one of the brightest young men of his generation. Read that document bro!

The issue is not God or reverencing Him, because the last time I read the book of Isaiah, it's stated in a chapter and verse I can't remember that, 'We are His witness." And you know what that mean? We have duty to reverence him. He's our Source and Creator! We wouldn't have been here if not for HIM. That's what Emeraldtommy was trying to do! And you miss that part, man! The American founding fathers placed God at the centre of everything while they do their homework—as this student has done prior getting his visa! I have pushed this idea everywhere I go or invited to talk or share my opinion on the state of governance in Nigeria: God will not do for us the things He has given us the abilities to do by ourselves and for ourselves. But if we do what we should do, He's God to help us where and when we reach our limit--if need be! Nigeria is not what it is because Emeraldtommy and other Nigerians perpetuate or live with the perspectives that all it takes is "miracles" for Nigeria to work; Nigeria is what it's because Nigerians abuse religion by hanging on God when and where He wants us to work hard and get things done by ourselves. It's not because we reverence God or admit his presence or believe in miracle! We will still need miracle to build Nigeria anyway! Yes, we must work hard, create, innovate, strategise, breed natural leaders, and do our homework when and where necessary. But we will still need God, prayer and cling on the essentiality of morality to create a nation as great and prosperous as America. Go to China and ask their highly intelligent scientists if they believe in God or a spiritual being or force aiding Creations or at the centre of everything! They will tell you their story. They believe in the assistant of the spiritual realm, which God is centrally behind! I would have been the first to bounce on Emeraldtommy had he said he got his visa due to "all-God, no man duty" bulshhit. He did not do that. He's just happy and grateful to a God who got his back.

If you want to help your home country rewrite its dark story of ineffectiveness, poverty, lawlessness, falsifications, corruption, injustice and more importantly, abuse of religion or faith that has destroyed and wasted our resources and time, do it right. You'll need God's help yourself to do that! In fact, you will get to a point you will wish for a miracle and get it, even as you play the primary role. You gotta accept that God is at the centre of everything, even in the midst of darkness you see many Nigerians groaning in. Get your own perspective about things checked. You've done a lot of disservice to those you claim you wanted to serve with the comment below. I hope that they, too, see where you got it wrong! Have a great day!

I am a christian... but i am tired of reading this demonstrably false acknowledging of "God" anytime we obtain immigration benefits the rest of the world takes for granted. Yours is a profile i have seen all too often - well prepared, going for degrees that are in line with their previous degrees, good grades, and best of all - proof of full funding from a well respected US school. Except for rare cases, people with these profiles typically get their visas approved... without having to claim that it was all a miracle. You do others a disservice, rather than preparing hard like you've done, you perpetuate the Nigerian idea that all it takes is "miracles", even when presenting fraudulent documents at their visa interviews.

Please tell your wife to relax and let you get in first. As someone here have stated, going with your wife and kids could be seen as potential migration and, to be honest with you, this may cause your refusal. Leaving wife and children behind for now significantly gives you "strong home ties" which the US embassy is strongly looking for in every applicant of the US visa. I recently shared similar experience here and I am sure you read about what happened to the primary applicant and the dependents. They were refused--even though the primary applicant who's the husband has been to the US twice.

HOWEVER, this is just an advice and, maybe, my recommendation for you. That you appear for your interview alone or go with your family doesn't guarantee approval or refusal. Every case is different. What a VO saw in applicant A to refuse his visa may not been seen in applicant B--even when that thing is present. In the end, you gotta make your own decision and do what's best for you and your family. I look forward to seeing your visa approval transcript.

Good day NL family, I have just received my I 20 and I am supposed to travel alone but my wife has insisted that we go together with the kids. I have informed my school of my decision and they requested that I show proof of funds for additional 16k usd before another I20 will be issued to include my family member. I have 11 million in my account which I have used to obtain the initial I20. The only fund available now is my mum treasury bill investment of circa 15m naira.

My worries is that I am in my early 40's, will it sound nice to the school and the VO to be sponsored by aged parent considering my age and family status

Congratulations. Blessed are those who believe the dreamer! I'm very happy when I see people reverence God as the source of their breakthrough or achievement. His hand and time are upon us, and with a faith as little as mustard seed, miracle can happen. Also, there is no need to be sorry for posting your transcript late. I personally encouraged some students to wait until they pick the visa before posting their transcript. I pray this phase of your life leads you to somewhere great!

I'm sorry my transcript came a bit late, I wanted to have my hands on my visa before posting. Please, forgive me.
I was a little agitated when I started reading the transcripts on this platform, especially the transcripts that were rejected late last year. I however kept reading, and again, Fairheart's post about seeing many visas approved encouraged me. The whole process, from start to getting the visa was a miracle only God could do. It took a while before I agreed to write GRE n TOEFL, after my masters degree, with what my eyes saw with researching in Nigeria, although I wanted a PhD, but Nigeria was a "NO" for me. I wasn't ready to read any serious "book" again too, so, I was just pursuing South Africa jeje for my PhD. My husband wouldn't agree with me on the SA prospect no matter how I talked about it. He just didn't like the country for anything.
After a while, I kept reasoning on what my friends had always told me about writing the standardized exams and applying to the US. I did and I was graced to talk to an advisor whose active research is a match to masters degree research. He agreed to supervise me and told me his research is a funded research. So I applied and was admitted and offered GA with stipends. Below was my conversation with the VO .
Me: Good morning
VO: Good morning, your Passport and i20 please.
Me: Okay, Here...

VO: Where are you going?
Me: I'm going to JSU for my doctorate degree in Chemistry.
VO: How did you get to know about JSU?
Me: I did an online search for schools with graduate research in Chemistry and then streamlined my search to schools with Natural Product Chemistry, and there came JSU and other schools I applied to.

VO: So, your focus will be Natural Product Chemistry
Me: Oh..yes

VO: Do you have a Professor to work with already?
Me: Yes

VO: His name?
Me:Prof...

VO: Did you apply to other schools?
Me: Yes, I named them

VO: I see you're fully funded
Me: Yes

VO: What will you do to maintain your scholarship status?

Me: I'll maintain an excellent performance in academics and research ( VO nods in affirmation)

VO: What have you been doing since you completed your Masters
Me: Been into research at my Supervisor's laboratory. I carry out experiments and analysis, write reports and help supervise the undergraduate students.

VO: Are you married? With children
Me: Married, Yes, with Children, No

VO: Will anyone be travelling with you?
Me: No ( at least, not now)

VO: I'll be approving your Visa, she gave me the white paper and told me to get my passport from the address indicated in 3 working days.
Me: Thank you.

Well, someone went today at Abuja Embassy with full funding in Phd and was refused. From the transcript I can't see anything wrong. So it's not always rosy for PhD if you meet the wrong/angry V.O.
