Mallam Umaru Altine, was elected in 1952 as the first Mayor of Enugu, the heart land and heartbeat of the Igbo Nation. He was in office till 1958. He was elected a Councillor in 1954 and Chairman of the Council in same year. He became Mayor of the Enugu Municipal Council in 1956, when Enugu became a Municipality.

His story is usually held up as "the example of unity we could have achieved" he may have been a ‘token’ experiment in 1954 - 1956 but after leaving the NCNC he was certainly a popular candidate. he was well loved by the populace, without question winning against formidable odds.

He returned to the North during the 1966 crisis and focused on his business away from public life, hence his disappearance from public life never to resurface again.

The Norwegian has been relieved of his duties following a heavy defeat to Watford, with the Red Devils seventh in the league
Manchester United have sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the club confirming that the Norwegian coach is no longer at the helm.
The manager was dismissed following the Red Devils' heavy 4-1 defeat at Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.
The loss was United's fifth in their last seven matches in the league, leaving them 12 points adrift of leaders Chelsea.
Manchester United confirmed Solskjaer's sacking in an official statement, with his assistant Michael Carrick set to take charge of the team on a temporary basis until a permanent replacement can be found.
"Manchester United announces that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left his role as manager," the statement on the club website reads.
"Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision. While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.
"Ole leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as Manager and our very best wishes for the future. Pressure on the Norwegian coach had been increasing amid the Red Devils' inconsistent run of results.
United got off to a good start in the 2021-22 campaign, winning three and drawing one in their first four Premier League matches, but started to struggle after a 2-1 loss to Young Boys in the Champions League.
They were then knocked out of the Carabao Cup by West Ham before suffering Premier League losses to Aston Villa and Leicester.
Fans called for the club to sack the manager after they were beaten 5-0 at home by Liverpool, but they bounced back with a 3-0 win at Tottenham the following week.
However, that result was followed up with another home defeat to rivals Manchester City before the international break, and then came the 4-1 thrashing at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
United are currently seventh in the Premier League, while they sit second in their Champions League group and two points ahead of third-placed Atalanta with two games to play in the round.
The former United striker was initially appointed manager on an interim basis in December 2018 but was given a permanent contract the following March.
United finished sixth in the Premier League that season with 66 points, and moved up to third the following year despite collecting the same number of points.
The 2020-21 campaign saw United come in second in the English top-flight as well as reaching the Europa League final, though they lost to Villarreal.
Solskjaer signed a three-year contract extension that summer as United hoped to keep him in charge for the long-term, but their recent results have forced the club to make a change.
In all, the Norwegian managed United for 168 competitive games, with a record of 91 wins, 40 defeats and 37 draws. His win percentage stands at 54.2 per cent, which puts him behind Jose Mourinho in terms of success, but ahead of David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Ryan Giggs.

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele says about $3trillion has been distributed to families, farmers and companies to cushion the COVID-19 impact

Emefiele made the revelation in an interview with Arise TV at the the 2021 Intra-African Trade Fair in Durban, South Africa.

On complaints that the bank was overreaching its statutory bounds, he said the CBN had been playing complementary roles for the benefits of Nigerians and businesses.

“Between 2020 and now, our data shows that we have disbursed at least N2trillion, almost N3trillion in loans to households, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, smallholder farmers, pharmaceuticals and health institutions”, Emefiele disclosed.

The CBN chief added that large agricultural companies and manufacturing companies are also accessing 10 years loan with two-year moratorium and single digit rate.

He recalled that when coronavirus struck, President Muhammadu Buhari tasked him and Finance Minister Zainab Ahmed to work together and suggest an immediate response.

Emefiele said Buhari subsequently approved the establishment of the Economic Sustainability Programme (ESP) chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

“The central bank played an active part to the extent that the fiscal authorities meant to contribute N500billion and monetary authorities provided almost about N1.5trillion.

“This is not as grant but as loans to support people who were impacted by COVID-19 so they can get their businesses back”, he clarified

President Muhammadu Buhari says French citizens who wish to leave France and seek greener pastures in Nigeria would be welcomed with open arms.

Salaudeen Waliu, alias Captain Walz, the final year student of the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Ilorin, who battered a female lecturer, Mrs Zakariyau, has explained the reasons for his action.

He claimed to have gone to the office of the female lecturer to beg her to help wave the mandatory SIWES course which he missed due to unforeseen circumstances.

He claimed to have met Mrs Zakariyau numerous times, but all led to negative responses before the last Thursday assault on the lecturer.

Salaudeen Waliu, while speaking to University Campus Journalists, UCJ-Ilorin, claimed that ” months before the last Thursday incident, he was arrested and locked up for two months, thereby warranting his inability to attend SIWES duties.”

He said he had gone to Allen Avenue in Ikeja, Lagos State, to meet a friend for the first time. He was waiting for the friend when according to him, he “felt the urge to urinate.”

Salaudeen said he urinated near a car parked by drainage when he was challenged by someone who must have washed the car.

He said he was accused of being a thief and was not allowed to explain himself before a mob descended on him, meted out jungle justice and handed him over to the police which led to his detention for a period of two months.

The final year student said after the incident in Lagos, he approached Mrs Zakariyau to explain to her his ordeal but the lecturer said there was no help to offer, except he joined the next set which would result in an extra year.

He said on the fateful Thursday when he entered the lecturer’s office, she ordered him out of her office.

” I got angry, I don’t know what came over me, I started arguing and she told me to leave her office, I told her if I don’t leave, what is she going to do?

“She then threw a mug at me which injured me and I started beating her,” he added.

Salaudeen said the female lecturer did not fight back, so he went on to beat her and later dragged her out of her office to continue the beating.

” I dragged her out and she ran. I chased and kept beating her before people came. I tried to run but was later caught by the school security,” he stated in the security cell of the institution where he was locked up since he was returned from ‘F’ Divisional Police station, Tanke in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

400-level student of the Department of Microbiology of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) reportedly beat a female lecturer of the institution to coma.⁣

The student simply identified as Captain Walz was said to have gone to the lecturer’s office on Thursday, November 11. 2021, to seek her help because he didn’t observe the compulsory Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).⁣
.⁣
The lecturer, whose name was given as Mrs Zakariya, who is also the student’s project supervisor was said to have refused to help him.⁣
.⁣
Following the lecturer’s refusal, Walz reportedly became furious and assaulted the lecturer inflicting severe injuries on her.⁣

Mrs Zakariya was subsequently rushed to the hospital for treatment.⁣
.⁣
Confirming the incident, the institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs Mr Kunle Akogun told Daily Trust that the lecturer is now in a stable condition.⁣

“Yes, the incident is to true but lecturer is now in a stable condition. The Vice Chancellor, Prof Abdulkareem visited her in the company of some Dean’s and other university staff.⁣

“They described further described the incident unfortunate and sad and assured justice will be done on the matter.,” Akogun said.⁣

He added that the Vice Chancellor of the university ordered that the victim be treated on the bill of the institution.⁣

A 60-year-old man has been arrested after his 16-year-old daughter recorded him allegedly raping her.

She sent the video to her older brother who alerted the police.

The girl resorted to recording the video because her father had allegedly been raping her for a year. He told her if she told anyone, there would be no evidence that would lead to his arrest.

The man was arrested after the police saw the video.

North West police spokesperson Captain Sam Tselanyane said the man was originally from the Eastern Cape and had a wife there but lives in Marikana where he works on the mines.

In March last year, said Tselanyane, the man fetched his then 15-year-old daughter in the Eastern Cape, telling her she should finish her schooling in the North West. 

However, he alleged started raping her two months into her stay.

"The victim alleges that her father threatened that even if she could tell anyone, there won’t be enough evidence to prove her allegations. So, she had to come up with a plan to gather evidence.

"On Tuesday, 2 November 2021, the accused allegedly called the victim to his bedroom as usual, the victim allegedly took her cellular phone into the bedroom with the aim of recording the incident.

"The accused allegedly saw the cellular phone and started questioning the victim, who informed him that she was only searching for the network. Subsequently, the victim managed to record the whole ordeal and thereafter sent the video to her 25-year-old brother in the Eastern Cape."

Tselanyane said after the brother saw the video, he went to the police who the communicated with the North West police.

A case was then opened in the Eastern Cape which was later transferred to the North West.

The man was then arrested

According to Tselanyane, the man also lived with his 13-year-old son. The children are currently in the care of relatives.

It is not yet known if the daughter attended school as the father had intended.

The man is expected to appear in court on 18 November 2021 for a bail application.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday said its investigations have revealed that one PRECIOUS OFURE OMONKHOA, has linked CASA-Cubana, a project owned by OBINNA IYIEGBU otherwise known as OBI CUBANA, to fraud.

The EFCC revealed OMONKHOA confessed that he used proceeds from his alleged fraud to purchase land worth one hundred and fifty thousand US Dollars through bitcoin from the scheme being
run by the Cubana Group.

The EFCC Head, Media and Publicity, WILSON UWUJAREN, revealed this in a statement, stressing that OMONKHOA allegedly posed as a Swedish national, MOSHEM CNICH, to defraud victims of their money.

The statement also noted operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command arrested the suspect last Monday in the Ikoyi area of Lagos, after he defrauded victims who invested in his bitcoin scheme, and two Canada-based victims on a dating scam.

The document also noted that $50,000USD was found in his bitcoin wallet, upon his arrest.

The anti-graft body noted that the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation

A pastor, Justice Aniele has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a 14 years old girl in Amaji community, Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Aniele raped the 14-year-old orphan who was under his care and got her pregnant. The presiding High Court Judge, Justice Augusta Kingsley-Chuku, in her judgement, found the accused guilty of taking advantage of the minor and having unlawful sexual intercourse with her, which resulted in the birth of a baby boy who later died.

Speaking to journalists, a lawyer for FIDA, Chisom Anyalebechi, expressed happiness that the accused was convicted for the crime. She said the judgment will serve as a deterrent to others because many people are getting away with it and victims and their families are sometimes complicit.

Nollywood legend Dr Sam Dede has revealed that Nollywood industry is not well patterned to put food on the table for its practitioners. TIG Magazine

Dede, who doubles up as a lecturer in Uniport, an expert in film and television production, acting voice and speech training in the art department, advised that the industry needs to be revamped and restructured to benefit all the people involved in the productions process.

He said: “I think you know the creative industry in Nigeria is still not probably structure in such a way that it puts money in the pocket of the practitioners and that is what we have been talking about for many years.

“We need to sit down and look at the model to rearrange the system in such a way that the practitioners, those crew members that we overlook and ignore, begin something reasonable from a movie project.

“Because the movie producers own the right for life. And the people who put heads together, their intellectual properties that make the movie come alive only go home, it shouldn’t be like that.

In a viral video, which was recorded by passers-by, the Pastor was seen “swinging” behind the unclad lady who is believed to be his church member.

The people who caught them in the act, subjected them to severe beating while filming the whole encounter. The shamed-faced Ghanaian lovers asked for forgiveness and promised not to do that again.

An outstanding graduate of Imo State University College of Medicine, Dr Olachi Sandra Ndukwe has spoken on how she was able to emerge the best graduating student in her set.

The indigene of Ehime Mbano in Imo State opened up in a recent interview with The Punch.
Speaking on how she was able to graduate with a distinction, she revealed how rigorous her reading schedule was.
She said; ”In the early stages of my training, it appeared a bit too complex for me. But as the years rolled by, I figured out how best to study. I consistently made an effort to sleep as early as 7-8pm each day. Once it’s 11pm-12am, I’m awake and I’d start reading. I sometimes read till 6am.
You must understand this pattern was unique to me as each one must discover what works best for him/her. I didn’t really have a time table of what topic to read. I was very spontaneous and the cases I saw in the hospital largely determined what I would read each day. However, there were times I would read in excess of 16 hours, especially during the weekends. I just locked myself indoors and read as long as I could.”

One Bisi Omoniyi has allegedly hacked a 50-year-old man he met in his lover’s room to death, the Ogun State police command has said.

Omoniyi, 25, was arrested Friday following a distress call received by the police in Owode Yewa divisional headquarters, that the young man had matcheted one Akinyemi Wahab Alani to death in Ajilete, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Responding to the distress call, the DPO of Owode Egbado, CSP Olabisi Elebute, had mobilized her team to the scene where the suspect was apprehended.

According to report that the victim, who was rushed to a hospital, was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

According to the Ogun State police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the victim, Alani (a.k.a Ajiolopon) was with his woman, one Kafayat Sakariyau in her room at Ajilete to spend the night with her.

However, the suspect, who also intended to spend the night with the same woman, came knocking, but he was denied entry.

The suspect, said to have come from Ibasa area of Oke-Odan, reportedly forced his way into the woman’s room and met the deceased in a position he had described as unacceptable to him.

“Consequently, a fight ensued between them and the suspect picked a cutlass in the room and matcheted the victim to death,” Oyeyemi told newsmen on Sunday.

Apparently baffled by the incident, Kafayat was said to have fled the area, as the deceased’s body was deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

Meanwhile, the Ogun Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, ordered the transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the state CIID for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

Some losses hit harder than others, and for singer-songwriter, Oluwaseyi Joshua, popularly known as Seyi Shay, the death of music legend, Olanrewaju Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan hit close to home.

The singer-songwriter, who shared her relationship with Sound Sultan as well as her journey through the Nigerian music industry with host and co-founder of Joy Inc, Chude Jideonwo, recalled that she bumped into Sultan at the recording studio of a music producer named Doc Def.

According to Seyi Shay, by the end of their conversation, Sound Sultan had listened to her music, learnt that she had been part of a girl band that had recently broken up and promised that he would get her an investor so Seyi Shay could come to Nigeria to do her music- which he did.

He connected Seyi Shay with Cecil Hammond of Flytime Productions, one of the biggest promotional companies in Nigeria’s history, and the singer-songwriter relocated to Nigeria to explore music.

Sharing this she said, “I lived with Sultan for a year. I lived with him in Festac- him and his wife. It was a great experience. He was my mentor, one of my best friends. We co-worked together. And actually, at some point, it became less about music and more about just friendship. He was like my small daddy .

“He was very, very close to me. And his wife became like my small mommy. You know, it was just magical- like a very amazing time spent with him.”

Despite the painfulness of his death, Seyi Shay is glad that she “got to know him on that level” and to her, “he is still around.”

Speaking of other events in her life, Seyi Shay talked of the day she finally got her mother’s full approval regarding her music. She stated that she took her mother to the studio one day and played her first album for her mother. “She was blown away like I saw the pride in her eyes. She was just so moved. From that moment she was like, ‘Okay. I understand now what you want to do,” she said.

Veteran actor, Jide Kosoko, has said he does not regret campaigning for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

Kosoko said although he is disappointed in some of the actions of the President, he can’t state that the Buhari is totally bad, adding that so many things are responsible for what is happening in Nigeria.

According to him, Nigerians are just doing trip and error when it comes to choosing its President.

When asked if he regrets campaigning for the President, Kosoko told Premium Times, “No, I can never regret it. All Nigerian youths saying different things, let them show us who to follow, do you know who will do well, do you know?

“Professor Wole Soyinka was appointed the founding Corps Marshall of the FRSC, he ran away, he could not stand it. So, tell me if you are able to confirm to me that Jide Kosoko is the best to govern us, then I will follow you. But nobody knows, we are all making trial and error.”

The actor noted that so many things are responsible for the situation in Nigeria.

“I cannot speak for the government but I can’t say Buhari’s government is totally bad but I’m disappointed in some of his actions.

“Buhari knows that discipline is his watchword, I wanted to believe him then, but he should know that in getting a corrupt-free society you would face quite a lot of antagonism.”

“I believe Buhari and personally, he is not corrupt, but so many things are still going on. This means that prompt action must be taken to ensure that those things stop in the country,” Kosoko said.
