Politics / Re: David Mark Calls For Control Of Social Media by faithin9ja: 12:06pm On Jul 27, 2012 |
Goodluck is the first Nigerian leader to really feel the full force of vocal opposition. We as Nigerians are generally too deferential to our seniors hence a lot of our problems. We must lie down to greet even our senior brother (senior by 10 months), we cannot critise an older uncle, brother, our boss in the office or heavens forbid a so-called man of God. How many people on this forum if they ever sit down face to face Bamangur Tukur will feel free to criticize him? David Mark like most senior Nigerians does not feel comfortable with 'juniors' critizing him or his government. They are not use to it. Add to that most of the people critising because of freedom of speech and anonymous social networks feel free to rain childish uncouth insults in many cases without any reasonable proper critism such as an alternative solution, instead of abusing a 60 year old's father. David Mark is sounding like the dictators of China, who don't want the type of critism Goodluck or even Obama face online hence he is calling for a ban on social networks. However he is displaying his age and incomprehension by even suggesting the genie be put back in the bottle 1 Like |

Odunnu: Most private hospitals use them. You will know them by their uniform. Thank you again, I am sure I recognize one, but where does one find an auxiliary nurse to employ on a private basis? |

Odunnu: You will do with an auxilliary nurse. A R/N or S/N/M will be quite expensive. It is well An auxiliary nurse will do, where does one begin to look for one. thank you again |

please moderator bump to front page. Where can one get affordable treatment for an aged relative who has suffered a stroke in Lagos. We are looking either for a nurse who can do home visits daily or a few times a week or a hospital where the patient can stay perhaps weekly. are there any such services? thank you for your answers. |

ola_pluto: London Olympics has something about it that makes me have hope in Nigeria's performance. Atlanta 96 was our best till date. But then, I think London can surpass that. We currently have very few 'gold medal sureties' but we have folks that can replicate Atlanta magic. I will list the sports we're taking part in and my view of our chances. Great post, keep it up |

Nigerian Police like the Nigerian society has a lot of improvement, but that improvement must start somewhere. When last did you encourage any of your relatives to join the Nigerian Police? http://naijamayor.com/meet-lagos-state-first-female-police-pro-ngozi-conchita-braide/ Apparently according you this woman cannot use the internet |
Politics / Re: Call For Military Coup D'etat In Nigeria - Enough Is Enough! by faithin9ja: 10:05am On Jul 18, 2012 |
ishmael: They no longer have the time to sit and drink in the mess again because of BH. Most of them are out in the field for one operation or the other. I still believe the military guys are better and more intelligent than the bunch of clueless crooks ruling nigeria now. Yeah, like the military people who don't even have simple patience to bey traffic rules. How is a military man better than any other Nigerian? Doesn't he has relatives and townspeople to 'settle' when he too gets 'a position' . Does going to NDA or JAJI make them any less corrupt? Are army officers today not making money from 'security budgets'. If I give you military contract now to supply Nigerian Army with soldiers boots, won't you be jumping for joy that you have recieved your blessing? My point all Nigerians are suspectible to corruption, soldiers are no different from the rest of us, if anything they are worse because nobody can question them. BH is strong today because past military governments developed our security services to arrest social commentators like Beko & Gani rather than protect the nation. |

Car Talk / Re: One In 10 Lagos Drivers Have Valid Driver's Licence by faithin9ja: 7:27am On Jul 18, 2012 |
Next somebody will blame GEJ!!! We have an entrenched culture of short cuts and indiscipline. I have said severally on various posts, how many Nigerians under the age of 35 actually PASSSED a driving test before getting the driving license? Most Nigerians think the NORMAL practice is to take some driving lessons, then buy a car and 'buy' a license, most don't even know there is such a thing like driving test. You see and hear drivers insulting themselves and accusing each other of bad driving and they themselves have no idea about correct driving rules. We have amongst the highest accidents and death rates on the roads in the world, with our bad roads, bad 'tokunbo' cars and bad roads BUT my people blame witches and wizards, people of the world, jealously, etc when their brother, uncle, that 'only' son dies in a road accident. |

What is bad in Nigeria buying fuel from Niger? must Niger remain poverty stricken forever? this is good news for Nigeria, at least if ordinary Nigerians can go across the border and buy petrol this will end the 'fallacy that is subsidy' and the real price of petrol will be achieved. |
Politics / Re: Bini People Have Put Nairaland Tribalists To Shame by faithin9ja: 9:27am On Jul 16, 2012 |
@Ekt Bear, I am glad you see my point and the context in which I phrased the topic. Of course sometimes it's necessary to give your 'brother' a lift up or put your 'brother' in charge of your affairs. Also the perception of Bini people (rightly or wrongly) is one of being wicked and very xenophobic (hence one of the reasons for the need for a Delta State. Perceived wisdom would be that the Oba's Palace would lend it's support for a full blood Bini man before anyone from even Esan let alone Afemai. But the political landscape in Benin City (and as such Edo State) has changed remarkably over the last few years, their own son of the soil, Lucky Igbinedion, let them down badly hence a massive shift to ACN from PDP. I know I have simplified the reasons, but the result is the average Bini market woman, Bini Chief, Bini transporter decided to vote for an Auchi man rather than retired Bini general |
Politics / Re: Bini People Have Put Nairaland Tribalists To Shame by faithin9ja: 9:10am On Jul 16, 2012 |
ekt_bear: Who said they are the same? How does using the term "Edoid" assume that they are the same? People on this thread were using the term Edoid to suggest that voting in Benin City for an Auchi man was to be expected as they were all the same 'Edoid' people, which anyone who understands Bini culture will realize this is a total fallacy |
Politics / Re: Bini People Have Put Nairaland Tribalists To Shame by faithin9ja: 9:07am On Jul 16, 2012 |
ekt_bear: Behaving tribally is not always irrational. It depends on the context. Te reason I am 'praising' Bini people ( I am not Bini, for the record, is that in the normal course of events in societies like Nigeria, the default is to be tribalisitic in matters such as this. Especially by the chattering classees on forums such as this. To use your analogy Nigerians have for the past 50 years been putting their hands in fire because the tribal and ethnic issues. |
Politics / Re: Bini People Have Put Nairaland Tribalists To Shame by faithin9ja: 8:50am On Jul 16, 2012 |
ekt_bear: Eh. Of course they behaved rationally, hence I am praising them, unlike the tribalistic elements on this forum and other parts of Nigeria. Being tribalistic is by its nature an irrational way to take many decisions. Just to presume that because somebody is from your village he or she is going to be a good leader is irrational. the term 'Edoid' is used wrongly, it presumes an Auchi man, Bini man and Ofosu man are the same because they come from the same state. That's like saying Ijaw and Isoko are the same because they are from Delta state. |
Politics / Re: Bini People Have Put Nairaland Tribalists To Shame by faithin9ja: 8:21am On Jul 16, 2012 |
PhysicsQED: My friend this is a classic case where tribalism did not matter, if the Bini people were full of tribal sentiment they would have voted a 'goat' as long as he was a 'son of the soil' and never let an outsider near government house. But the Bini people were wise and savvy enough to vote for the better candidate regardless of where he is from. Most people answering this thread have no idea of differences in tribes or ethnic groups outside their own states (imagine somebody using the term 'Edoid') smh |
Politics / Re: Bini People Have Put Nairaland Tribalists To Shame by faithin9ja: 6:10pm On Jul 15, 2012 |
shymmex: Are the people living in Edo not the same Edoid people?? Mr Shymex stop showing your ignorance, Edo state is comprised of many ethnic groups - Egba & Ijebu as far as I am aware are Yoruba, Auchi & Bini are totally different ethnic groups, different language, different culture. In Edo state you have Afemai, Owan, Ishan (Esan), Bini (Edo) before you add a few Ijaws and even Itsekeri, this is not a full list. The indigenous people of Benin City are the Bini's also called Edo. Oshiomole as far as I am aware is an Afemai, from Auchi yet he has won an election in Benin City where he comprehensively defeated the son of the soil, Charles Airhiavbere who is a Bini man. this victory is similar to an Egba man in Abeokuta being defeated by somebody from Edo state |
Politics / Re: After Controversies: Why Oshiomole Won by faithin9ja: 3:31pm On Jul 15, 2012 |
koruji: Not demonstrated jack. T[b]he only reason this went well is because the candidate was popular, and his party had a great machinery in place to counter the many well-known rigging plans by PDP. isn't that what democracy, popular candidates winning. In previously rigged elections did popular candidates win? I always give Lagos as an example; popular state governor won re-election, but the GEJ won a landslide in Lagos why? rigging? or did popular candidates win? democracy does not come easy, most developed democracies around the world are sometimes 100's of years old with their democratic process, we have yet to have 20 years of unbroken democracy |

#Afanna: what is your point? that Bini's did NOT vote for Oshimole? |
Politics / Re: Oshiomole Casting His Vote - Picture by faithin9ja: 3:06pm On Jul 15, 2012 |
Ileke-IdI: Voting in Nigeria is semi- private to prevent rigging. You mark your card in secret but place your vote in a transparent box in the view of everybody present. counting is also done within minutes of the polls closing, right there where the ballots was held and the results of the ballot station are then posted on the wall or any public place for all to see. |
Politics / Re: Bini People Have Put Nairaland Tribalists To Shame by faithin9ja: 2:45pm On Jul 15, 2012 |
#Afanna: You obviously don't get my post. Bini have the highest population in Edo State, yet they decided to vote for a non-Bini man, despite having a Bini man as a candidate, in the 1979 the Bini voted for Ambrose Alli also a non Bini. To my mind I commend Bini for taking this stand. If only more tribes in Nigeria took this stance 1 Like |

#Afanna: and your question is? |
Politics / Bini People Have Put Nairaland Tribalists To Shame by faithin9ja: 1:39pm On Jul 15, 2012 |
once again Bini people have proven contrary to popular belief that they are above tribalism. They have voted again for a man who is not Bini against their own son. when will other states and Nigeria be able to do this? Middle belt states, Adamawa state, Lagos state, etc voted for GEJ & PDP in presidential election yet CPC and Buhari supporters accuse them of 'rigging'. did Buhari really think Lagos voted for him? My bet; come presidential election Edo state will vote for PDP, to my mind that how elections should be, not following one party blindly 1 Like |
