Travel / Re: Press Release on the accident from The DANA Air Website by faithin9ja: 8:46am On Jun 05, 2012
whobethat: Dana air is owned by Indians but i am still checking the manifest to see how many Indians were on-board this crashed plane and i am yet to find one. This tells me something that the Indians in Nigeria know something we do not know.

either you are just being sarcastic or you are bigoted fool. Dana owners and Nigerian aviation authorities are too blame but I don't believe either party prayed or hoped for a crash when they were cutting corners - by the way 6 Chinese nationals died in the crash. My thoughts are with their families thousands of miles away.
Travel / Re: Press Release on the accident from The DANA Air Website by faithin9ja: 4:38pm On Jun 04, 2012
I pity the bigoted, tribalistic Nigerians on this thread and others like it.

First of all Dana Management and Directors should be arrested and be helping the authorities with their enquiries, not because they are Indians BUT because they are responsible for the air worthiness of their aircraft.

All Dana flights should be grounded immediately

Only a fool will enter Dana flight anyway right now.

An Allied Air cargo plane crashed landed in Ghana on Friday killing 10 Ghanaians in their bus, doe that mean the Nigerian owners of Allied Air hate Ghanaians or did they deliberately plan for their aircraft to crash in Ghana?

Nigerians remove the sentiment of colour, race and tribe and deal with the issues

Was this amount approved in the state budget? where did N5million times 47 = N235million come from? is this extra judicial spending? why won't there be corruption when there is no accountability, this year 47, next 69, and so on with no accountability.

why do we believe that until government hands out 'cash' that's the only way we know a governor,a government, president has performed.

Who cares about when 'Mama Iyabo's' daughter grow up, when 'Mama Iyabo' can feed the daughter right now.. How would she be able to grow up, if 'Mama Iyabo' can't feed her?? A hungry man don't think about the future, he thinks about now...

Like I said earlier, Nigeria is not ready for walmart.. When can talk about walmart when the standard of living improves - when 'Mama Iyabo' can feed her daughter three times a day, without having to sell tomatoes...

Sorry but your arguement is confused, how does the standard of living improve? by government handing over cash to the population? Mama Iyabo according to you is one of the people Wal Mart will kill off. I am explaining to you how Wal Mart helps Mama Iyabo and you say you don't care.

We need more big employers in Nigeria, we need more investment. You sitting in London how much have you invested in Nigeria? how many people have you employed? As I said earlier, my company is a supplier to Shoprite and Game and I know how many I employ because of these supply contracts.

Continue to preach the 'politics of socialism' from the comfort of your room in Barking or Ilford, whilst real people are doing the their 2 kobo for Nigeria

Nigeria is not ripe fro walmart, end of story... The average Nigerian makes a living by selling goods in small quantities - where do you want these people to earn a living, when the big boys come into town, with super cheap products from china?? And you know Nigerians are obsessed with anything western - add that cheap to the equation, and say goodbye to Alaba market, and Tejuosho market. sad

Mama Iyabo at Mende night market, sells tomatos of N3000 per night, all her market is not worth more than N20,000. where is her daughter going to work when she grows up? which type of education can she afford to give her daughter to get one of the few jobs in a bank or oil company, not a chance.

But her daughter can get a entry level job in companies like Wal Mart. There are not enough of these types of employers in Nigeria yet our population is growing. Nigerians will go to US and UK and work for these type of employers, do you think the millions of under-employed Nigerians would not love to work for these type of companies.

be there talking from the comfort of your London home, telling us Nigeria is not ready.

Open a branch of Mr Biggs in Owerri or Asaba and see the queue of people lining up looking for work, you don't see this from your 'lofty academic position' please move into the real world.

Most the posters here have not been to Nigeria recently.

'Shoprite' the south african retailer with a few outlets in Nigeria sells at least 60% Nigerian sourced products, NBL, Nido, St Louis Sugar, indomie, palm wine are all available in Shoprite, Lekki at lower than Oshodi prices.

My business actually is supplier to both Shoprite and Game in Lekki.

Walmart will be led by what the market demands, it will have to source local produced products to sell because that's what the market demands and can afford.the agenda is to make a profit not ideological 'we must sell american or chinese'

Walmart employs over 2.1million employees worldwide, is the biggest private sector employer of labor in the US, we complain that we don't have employers in Nigeria, FDI (especially not the Chinese variety that bring their own laborers) is one way of getting more people into the organised labor force in Nigeria.

A country of 160 million people not one private sector company has up to 35,000 employess

Technology Market / Re: How To Use A BIS Plan On An Android Phone by faithin9ja: 9:24am On May 22, 2012
Leopantro: MATERIALS

1. A rooted android phone.
2. An MTN BIS plan
3. Dolphin mini browser
4. Orbot app

INSTRUCTIONS
make sure you install the browser and the Orbot apps before you start and you have MTN APN settings already set up in the phone. finally, make sure your phone is rooted.

1. create a new APN with these settings
APN = blackberry.net
proxy = blank
port = blank or 8580
Username = web
Password = web

2. save it and make it your default settings.

3. install Orbot and dolphin browser mini.

4. in Orbit settings, tick Tor everything, transparent proxy, Tor tethering

5. activate your internet access, then start Orbot. wait until the ON button turns green. then click the test button, select dolphin browser and wait for the check tor webpage to show up.

Congratulations, your BIS browsing is now active.

NOTE.
1. For some strange reason, the test webpage doesn't show on Opera mini but you can still browse with it if you ticked "tor everything"

2. this works even when you have zero naira.however, if you send 2 to 131,it would say you have no credit.

3. i have tired this on only two android phones and it works. you may or may not have issues with your phone

Personally I never criticize innovation, afterall necessity is the mother of invention, but we must call a spade a spade. By using BIS bandwidth, we are using RIM servers, RIM service is cheaper essentially because of the technology they deploy. All over the world as far as I am aware BB is has cheaper data plans than the normal 3G plans used on other phones.

But those using this 'work-around' must admit they are trying to beat a system and cut corners for personal gain. How does this make us better than any of our politicians. With this type of mindset when we too get any type of position or power, we will continue to cut corners.

I comment on this forum on political matters and I have been accused of being a GEJ or PDP apologist, when actually what I am saying is Nigeria deserves the leaders we get, when we the populace are all individually corrupt (I include myself). The sooner we realize this the better for all of us.

Buhari came in and arrested everyone in the country whether guilty or not.

So travelling with Siren means they are not serving the people? What manner of unintelligent thinking is this?

The President of the US travels with escorts and Secret service and you can not get close to him except on special occasions that means he is not serving the people?

In addition to providing evidence that PDP is attractive to criminals You have also provided evidence thats its attractive to illiterates.

Oh I get you Oshiomole speaks Yoruba thats why he is in ACN, What a tosser, I am sure you would tell us Ribadu, Ngige also speak "E KAARO" thats why they are in ACN

There you go, the usual Nairaland past time, when all else fails throw around insults.
Obviously sarcasm is lost on you. You can't pick up on idiomatic expressions, in English it's called 'simile'

Of course presidents travel with convoys & sirens, but should every small LG chairman, councilor, State commissioner, member of house, etc does that show a closeness to the people? in the UK you can easily be on the train sitting next to the Mayor of London or your MP, in Germany Angela Merkel lives in a block of flats and still cooks breakfast for her husband every morning. In the developed countries people enter politics with no intention of enriching themselves, Hollande of France does not have a car and his assets are slightly over one million euros (made up largely from the value of his house.

Our Nigerian politicians of all parties and at all levels are more interested in their fleet of cars, houses and wives. How easy is it to see any of your representatives; in either State or National Assembly, meanwhile these are people who are suppose to represent you. They collect their Ghana must go, distribute 10% or 15% to their hangers-on or cronies, the rest they keep for themselves.

Hence I use the metaphor ' our politicians use siren'

at least Goodluck pretends to have sense of democracy, hence his use of facebook, Amaechie drives himself in Port Harcourt.

But by and large CPC, APGA, ACN they are all as bad as PDP, so if you want to eat a frog might as well eat the frog with eggs.

By the way Ngige and Ribadu entered ACN out of expediency not for any love of policy or ideology - which is the problem with all our politicians - AGIP

I even have doubts about your level of intelligence? Politics is a service to the people

Obviously you don't live in Nigeria. no Nigerian politician serves the people, otherwise why do they travel with siren?

just to mention was Alex Ekewueme not hand cuffed and jailed by your hero Buhari whilst the President was placed only under house arrest?

My point is until we have 80% of all Nigerians who do not believe in getting something for nothing, until we are truly able to offer selfless service without bigotry, until then only PDP can rule Nigeria, because the average Nigeria has the mindset of PDP type of operation, the other Nigerians who don't have this mindset are too tribalistic or entrenched in religious bigotry.

Cargoed: The main reason is due to failure of LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCILS many now don't know their responsibilities why because you and me forget to elect our chairmen we leave that for the touts so guess what they give back the touts what they want. which is .....

Local Governments are suppose to generate revenue from fines. Please show me a single Local Government that has generated N1000 from fines.

Fines include: Motor Park lawlessness,
Wrong parking,
Speeding fines,
banning/controlling commercial cyclists this is actually 70% the cause of rowdy metropolis.
Using the wrong horns on vehicles/motorcycles and trucks.
Sound systems from shops being above a certain decibel db,
Storekeepers exceeding their shop boundaries and taken over footpaths and junctions.
illicit sale of alcohol.
Footpaths constructed for pedestrians and fine pedestrians not using foot-ways
Barriers constructed at busy pedestrian junctions
Functional Street Lights
Parking bays for bus drivers, fine those outside it, dropping or picking passengers in wrong places
Establishing more one-way systems and fine defaulters
Waste management from the grass root up. So you can fine anybody that dumps in the wrong place.

Go and check most countries threat these things as emergencies and major issues. So we must learn Cut all support to L.G.A from federal level these are where they should generate their income from.

Ignorance they say is bliss.LG's Nigeria make money from all sorts of legal, illegal and semi legal fines. They plant touts (give them ID cards) to stop any flashy car to ask for the 'sticker' because flashy cars are usually company cars and company must LG stickers. If a commercial vehicle or company travels from Lagos to PH you need a minimum of 19 different tickets which your renew every year.

Every market in Nigeria from the smallest village to the biggest towns, the market women pay a daily rate to LG, all motor parks pay a daily rate to the LG's.

and there many other examples of how LG's extort and collect taxes and fines all over Nigeria

My friend I am not endorsing looting, I am only saying the truth. There is no good sound ideological party in Nigeria. The parties are only interested in what they can get for themselves, not even religion.

All of them.

and we were all raised that way unfortunately. As I said in my previous post, our parents want us to be doctors, not to cure poor sick people, but to become rich doctors, our parents want us to be lawyers, not to fight for justice for poor people, but to handle big money cases.

How many Nigerians enter politics for selfless service? all you Nigerians in the diaspora how many times have you done something selfless for your home country but you are quick to blame politicians.

How many Nigerians would even vote for politician who went on his campaign trail using Okada and public transport. The current opposition parties what do they campaign that is different from PDP? what have they delivered?

You are 100% correct.

PDP remains the only National Party in Nigeria today.
We may not be into politics but do not need a magician to tell us this.
ANPP at a time had national outlook but so sad how it reduced to a regional party.
CPC, APGA and ACN are mere ethnic champions and built around individuals.

The bitter truth is that PDP will keep ruling untill the next 50 years as one PDP
stalwart puts it unless the so called opposition takes practical steps to present
credible alternative - political parties devoid of ethnic and religious colouration.
Until then, the likes of ACN, APGA, CPC and ANPP may never take a shot at ASO Rock.

Until 80% of Nigerians understand the meaning of self reliance and productivity, PDP will continue to rule. All the people here condemning PDP will immediately buy PDP party form the day their friend or brother say 'come I have contacts in state house but you need party card.....'.

@o.poster,
you are either mis-informed or uninformed. i so much hate pdp that i did not waste all that time in reading all you wrote.but i was lucky to see the two lines above. ppl go to pdp not to be elected but to be selected if you want to know how, visit the last gubernatorial election in Bayelsa which brought dickson to power. on the second line, pdp is not a winning party rather they are a rigging party.
if you have time, go and read about political parties starting from their definition. under normal circumstances, a political party is a group of individuals who come together with a common political agenda with the aim of winning and keeping it.
what is the political agenda of pdp under obasanjo, yar adua and now jonathan? if pdp is a political party, the above three men would not mean change in government because they have the same political agenda. unfortunately, we had obasanjo who ruled with dog in the name of efcc and a yar adua who came with the rule of law and we now have a boko haram infested fuel subsidy removal pdp. all these are pdp of different mind and one target - stealing.
if any nigerian believe in voting then that one can believe anything. what has pdp done as a party that will make nigerians vote for them? i am from imo state, our ex-gov (ohakim) nearly made it to the second tenure even in the presence of all his evil deeds so devil is not voting here as to vote in these ppl rather they use their machineries to manipulate themselves into power.

(a)The mass suffering/Innocent blood
(b)Corruption
(c)Oil Money
(d)All of the above

d. all of the above unites PDP, 95% of Nigerians want a piece of corruption, oil money and don't give a hoot about the masses, they don't even care about their employees (check even the way Madam deals with the housegirl)

to make matters worse; CPC, APGA, ACN in addition to their tribal and religion bigotry, also have problems a to c.

As a matter of fact I go as far to say that PDP is the only non-tribalistic party in Nigeria. Why because all other parties are based on region, tribal and religious lines. We all talk about Buhari and Fashola, El-Rufai and Tinubu, etc yet PDP has perfected the art of using the average Nigerian greed and selfishness to create one big party for everybody.

Even Buhari cannot sway the core North to himself, because any right thinking Northern who wants to make sure he does not enter politics for nothing will join PDP, see Ogboru in Delta State, he contested for governor with one party but supported GEJ and PDP for presidential elections - why because he wanted to be part of the winning party.Even the fuel subsidy, the beneficiaries cut across all ethnic groups.

Basically if you are a true Nigerian and you want to sort out yourself and family, don't waste your time, join PDP
Politics / PDP Is The Best Party For Nigeria by faithin9ja: 10:47am On May 15, 2012
It is so SAD, but PDP is the party Nigerians deserve. PDP like it's predecessor NPN is the only national party in Nigeria today all other parties are based on regions and/or religion.

Any real Nigerian who wants to get into politics, and wants to get elected, so he or she can improve their family will in most parts of Nigeria join PDP.

Most Nigerians think politics (and even their day to day jobs) is all about what that job (or political position) can do for them and their family, very few Nigerians enter any vocation for the sake of others.

Our parents push us to be doctors and lawyers not because we will cure sick people in the Nation or fight for justice but because these are perceived to be high paying professions, Nigerian youths want to work for oil companies or banks, not because they want to fight oil pollution or give loans to small businesses, but because they want higher salaries and a company that well cover their diesel bill.

So how are we, Nigerians different when we enter politics - very few Nigerians have any kind of political ideology. We only enter politics for what we can get. Many of my friends and associates left the US and UK to move to Nigeria to enter politics or because their brother had political appointment, none of them ever said I am going home to improve something for my people.

Most of these people ended up in PDP, why PDP because this is the winning party, unless you are from ACN, CPPC or APGA states, whereupon you enter those parties.

How many 'nairalanders' have even joined a political party? and how many of you joined for ideological reasons?

For that matter how is APGA or ANPP or PDP ideology different, don't they all promise us the same things?

So as the heading of the post states, as long as Nigerians only get up in the morning to sort our own stomach out first, PDP will remain in power.
