Eziachi:
If your accessment of his work in Lagos is as successful as you meant us to believe, why can't he continue his assumed good works in Lagos? Why do you want him to rule Nigeria that is ungovernable? Why wanting him to be vice president that means absolutely nothing than to shake hand at cocktail parties?
As the governor of Lagos, he is the guy, but send him to ABUJA as anything, he will just become one of the guys.
By the way, I thought that the Nigerian presidency is now turn by turn presidency and the south west have had their own turn through Obasanjo?
This is PDP policy, it is not in the constitution that we should rotate presidency

Nairaland GeneralRe: How Popular Is Seun (Nairaland Creator) In Nigeria? by faoni572(m): 2:26pm On Nov 30, 2009

I think when I was asking about Seun's popularity I was not refering to him being a celebrity, but I wanted to know if he is featured in current topics in your country.Like if there is a round discussions on politics, sports, entertainment or just general issues.I mean he run one of the mouth piece of Nigerian society.

But I gather that he's just an IT guy who's job is just to make sure that this site runs smoothly.
I think you have answered the question yourself, Seun is not so popular in Nigeria but I think with time and with way nairaland is going, he may soon popular.

PoliticsYar’adua’s Second Term Campaign Hots Up – The Nation by faoni572(op): 8:03am On Sep 28, 2009
Yar’Adua’s second term campaign hots up – The Nation

Brushing aside rumours of ill-health and rash of criticisms on inept leadership from the opposition, the Presidency and top officials of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP have launched an intensive, yet underground campaign to ensure President Umaru Yar’Adua returns to power in the coming presidential elections, which is 20 months away.

For the past eight months, the source revealed, an intensive but stealthy campaign has been launched, which include but not limited to widespread mobilisation of the nation’s most critical sector. An independent source revealed that ‘billions of naira’ have been raised for the campaign.

Irrespective of his achievement profile, Yar’Adua’s re-election is said to be a critical factor to certain symbiotic interests; the core-North, which intends to hold on to power for geo-political reasons, a section of the business and political class which think its interests would be further consolidated with the President’s second coming.

The PDP also seems to rely strongly on the advantage of a weak, polarised and sometimes opportunistic opposition at the national level to push for Yar’Adua’s return.

PoliticsRe: Who Will You Prefer To Be The Next President Of Nigeria? by faoni572(m): 10:36am On Sep 07, 2009
Gbawe:
Fashola for me. My choice is not based on his performance as Governor of Lagos State alone. I have looked at his general policies and ideas ,as applies to the entire Nation ,  in concluding that Fashola would be a great President.

Fashola believes in PPP - Public-private sector Partnership. This is the way forward for Nigeria. The involvement of the Private sector in Public affair aids efficiency because profit is a powerful incentive for performance. Contrast this with the current situation within which the FG , rather than involving a better prepared and knowledgeable private sector , incompetently insist on being involved with things it does not have the expertise to do well so that it can be "business as usual for some" and underdevelopment for the rest of Nigeria.

Fashola advocates the total deregulation of the power sector so that States can generate and distribute their own power. Currently , only the FG is allowed by Law to distribute power in Nigeria. This is a very sad situation as it means that even if , theoritically, Lagos Generates 2000 MW Lagosians may still not enjoy constant electricity if the FG fails/refuses to distribute what is generated.

Fashola wants State Police. With the complexities of Nigeria it is obvious that our nation would benefit from a system similar to that of the USA. The LAPD can fight crime using methods suited to the LA enviroment . Similarly the NYPD can do its thing tailored to New York's specific crime problems.

Fashola believes in true federalism. Nothing needs to be said on this as it should be obvious that, given our different regional endowment, abilities and outlook , true federalism should be the way forward.

Fashola appoints on merit. The importance of this quality cannot be over-emphasised given that 'round pegs in square hole' is one of the greatest impediment to our nation's development and what has now likely cost us a place at the first Soccer World cup being held on African soil.

Fashola, even as he is a Politician , does not dwell on playing Politics with Governance . We can all see how , to the detriment of Nigeria, Yar Adua has played politics with almost every major Government position. Akunyili as info Minister, Egwu as Education Minister, Aondoakaa as AGF and Anenih as NPA boss are ridiculous appointments for a nation that wants progress !!! Iwu retention as INEC boss when men of undoubted integrity , like Soyinka and Achebe , are still living shows the type of political expediency killing our nation. Fashola does not have time for that nonsense because he refuses to play politics that is detrimental to our nations development.

There are more reasons but I believe you get the gist. I respect Pat Utomi immensely and think he will make a good President also but Fashola edges it because , at this dangerous phase in our history , a proven performer is what we need rescue this nation from impending collapse.
Well said.
PoliticsRe: Power Minister Statement On Power Supply by faoni572(m): 11:05am On Sep 03, 2009
Power: Minister Refutes 24-hr Supply Report

Minister of Power, Lanre Babalola, yesterday refuted report quoting him  to have promised that the nation will have 24-hour power supply by December.
A release signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mrs. Olubunmi  Badejo,    stated that what the minister said was that  a  study showed that the country’s current demand was in the range of 5,100megawatts.
Badejo noted that, "the crux of the matter is that with current demand estimated at 5,100mw, (i.e. those already connected to the grid), according to a recently concluded national demand study, and projected supply of 6, 000mw, the Ministry is confident that power supply will increase substantially.”
The statement said further: "The Minister, knowing these facts and figures, could not and would not make such statements, given the fact that  only about 50 per cent of Nigerians have access to electricity, coupled with this, is the fact that there is so much suppressed demand in the system.
"The erroneous statement credited to the  Minister is most unfortunate and regrettable, as it belittles our collective efforts and raises false hopes and expectations.
“The Ministry will like to assure Nigerians that with Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) working assiduously hard to rehabilitate plants, and improve operations, the commitment by  relevant bodies to ensure adequate gas supply and the unflinching commitment of the Federal Government, we are optimistic that power supply will substantially improve.," she noted.

Report has said by 2015, Lagos will be the third largest city in the world and more & more people will be using the airport
So why not plan ahead?
Solve future problems before they become present problems.
Should we wait until we actually need it before we start building it?
Having in mind it takes quite a  while to finish the contruction and actually becoming operational.
To crown it all is it not going to be privately carried out? Carry on jor and ignore the cynical folks.
What you said worth repeating for them to read. Perhaps some people like government that is not doing anything.

PoliticsRe: Lagos “deports” 160 Northern Beggers by faoni572(m): 3:33pm On Aug 26, 2009
Those who are against the move of Lagos State I am yet to get their points. Are they saying they should leave almagiris to litter the streets of Lagos or they are actually encouraging almagiris. Anybody who think almagiris can work should try to employ them and see if they will be ready to work.

Some of those that are talking against it on Nairaland today must have in the past abused government of not taking care of beggars but here is an active governor who want to rehabilitate them only to discover that the limited resources will not be enough unless Federal Government gives assistance. As a result of this , he evicted them to their respective state so that their government  can rrehabilitatethem. I am yet to see what is wrong in this. If it has been FG evicted them to their states, I would have understood it is wrong. If you don't like this that means you like to be seeing beggars suffer on the street.

Can somebody tell me if it is the right of beggars to litter the street to be begging. Government suppose to take care of them and we can't shoulder it on Fashola alone and everybody knows we don't have Federal Government.

The North bred and raised the highest number of almagiris and they have no right to run away from them.

Pls, Fashola has done the right thing.
