What I don't like about this stupid goat called Mpele is the way he insult Nigeria and Nigerians. It is true everybody has freedom of speech and this is open furum but then we have to be matured in what we post. I don't think it is good enough to be insulting people (or fellow Africans) all in the name of open forum or freedom of speech

I have been on this nairaland now for some months and this is how I came across it. There was a lady who was on industrial attachment in our office. She was posted to my department, most time she would open nairaland and read it, most time she would be laughing and any time I asked her what was it, she would tell me she is reading something on nairaland and that it is funny.

Then one day I collected the website name and I was reading it too. It got to a point I would have interest to reply to a certain comments and I discovered I have to register before I could reply any topic, that was how I got registered. Since then I have been enjoying it

WHose job is it to hold government accountable? Whose job is it to make sure that they are not duped by the people hired to be in government?

Ya masses are supposed to hold government accountable, but the fact is that if you cry till thy kingdom come only God can let them listen. Those that can actually talk to them are those on the corridor of power but unfortunately the are bird of the same feathers. there is no way masses can say they want to hold them resposible

Rhea:

The  Nigerian dream is what it is, a dream; our dream. It is our individual and collective dreams, but can only be, when we live our dreams.

The truth is that while most of us crave for that Nigeria, only very few are willing and ready to work for it. Many of us still look up on our leaders exclusively to deliver that Nigeria to us on a platter of gold.

Many of us, while we voice our discontent at government policies, are still unable to contribute our fair share and quota towards the realisation of this dream.

Many of us have lost our sense of pride in the Nigerian entity, and would rather proudly fraternise with the successes of other nations.

Many of us today are clamouring for Obama and raising funds for him (by force), while we wish our president would die away in Saudi Arabia.

We can bring this Nigeria of our dreams to fruition, but that has to start from our individual homes and backyards.

How many of us pay our taxes?
How many of us pay our NEPA bills?
How many of us would stash away that banana peel in a bag and dispose of it later in a bin rather than fling it out of the car while driving through the streets?
How many of us clean out our environments on sanitation day rather than sit down at home and watch BBA?
How many of us as Nigerians actually pray for Nigeria while we pray for a job, wife, money, scholarship etc?
How many of us would obey the traffic light even when LASTMA ain't hounding us?

These are some of the questions worth pondering upon, while we dream and live the Nigerian dream.

May God help us to actualise that kind of Nigeria where things work and work well.

I will take myself as an example to answer your questions and I know it is applicable to most Nigerians, not all. The true is that Government should first start their responsibilities and every other things will follow.

How many of us pay our taxes? - Since I have been working payment of my taxes have been 'pay as you receive' which means I pay my taxes regularly, I know the same thing apply to most Nigeria (not all pls), the little taxes they collected what are they doing with it, they embezzle it. if they make use of it and everybody see what they are doing with it, it will encouraged others to pay

How many of us pay our NEPA bills? -  This is the worst aspect of it, I never own NEPA any penny yet as at now it has been three months that I saw light last in my area which virtually means I am paying for darkness. Tell me how do you want me to continue paying, afterall I am using money to buy fuel to my generator

How many of us would stash away that banana peel in a bag and dispose of it later in a bin rather than fling it out of the car while driving through the streets? - So if I dispose the banana peel into my dust bin, where will I empty the dust bin, of course on the side of the road because govenment has not provided adequate waste disposal

How many of us clean out our environments on sanitation day rather than sit down at home and watch BBA? - How many people do you see on the road on a sanitation day. Even after sanitation if you go out you will see a lot of dirts that people piled up by the side of the road, because no where to dispose them, the dirts will still flush down to gutter when rain fall.

How many of us as Nigerians actually pray for Nigeria while we pray for a job, wife, money, scholarship etc? - You obviously have not noticed how many churches will have in Nigeria. A friend of mine visited Ghana and comfirmed to me that Nigeria has more churches than Ghana, yet Ghana is overtaking Nigeria in all facets of lives you can ever imagine. I believe those people are not in the church to curse.

How many of us would obey the traffic light even when LASTMA ain't hounding us? - I am not based in Lagos to see LASTMA, but where I have being to in this country I can confidently say that  Nigerians like to obey traffic light. Even imagine where handicapped person control traffic jams and people obey him, it happens here in PHC. Our traffic light has been on and off, some work onece in a month. i am very sure that if it had been consistent, people will respect traffic light.

Government should simply wake up and do something, the problem is corruption.

Politics / Re: Imagine This Kind Of Nigeria by faoni572(m): 9:27am On Sep 12, 2008
brother Joseph, which dream are you talking about. It easy for you in abroad to talk about dream: live in a big house surrounded by modern gadget, drive big car, spend hard currency. The real Nigerians are in Nigeria, they have nothing. Most of them haven't eaten since yesterday.
While you in abroad are having a dream, the real Nigerians are having a nightmare

That's it. The suitation in Nigeria can not even allow one to have sweet dream but only nightmare.

Actually, I do believe it is possible for Nigeria to achieve all those things, but it will take her years maybe by year 6010, we don't have to deceive ourself. If it can take developed countries to get where they are now, it will certainly take longer time for Nigeria to get there. TRUTH IS BETTER ANYWAY

People are saying Father owns the child.

Is it the father that bath the child, cloth her, cook for her, feed her, drop her in the school, pick her up @ school, react when another child try to beat her, wash her clothes, help her with her assignment, buy clothes and shoes for her, plait her hair etc

The only one that I can't do is in bold which I can easily pay somebody to do it for me

That's what we have nowadays, people have more fear for 'Man of God' than God Himself

kenflipper:

you guys re calling a spade a cutlass.

Illegal migration is a crime that allows for jail term for the purpose of detering would-be defaulters, that Nigeria doesnt enforce their immigration laws doesnt mean other countries wouldnt enforce theirs, and mind you that is why naija is what it is told the system has completely failed, there are thousands of Niger and Ghanians in Naija wit out permits the government is loosing alot from it. Commiting a crime calls for hatred be it drug or whatever crime. If we would respect laws of foreign countries am sure the discrimination would stop though not totally. What would u say about someone who carries drug to Singapore or Malaysia even tho before landing the pilot warns repeatedly that drug carries a death penalty and the arrival card indicates it. The carrier wont go to d toilet and flush d drug before going thro' immigration and custom check, rather he think the gods will see him thro' because he did seven days prayer and fasting, rather the gods sees him to his untimely hanging. Americans don't joke wit illegal migration, if u re illegal and caught they hack you, bump you, toss you and deport you after baning you for multiple years. If i had a legal residence in china the fact that they toss a human being to snakes don make me run quick quick, but Nigerians will hear these information and still commit crime and some body will come here and say lets stand for Africans! Its high time we apply common sense and do the right thing the world has changed. Nothing comes easy without hard work no matter where u re in the world. You need to work hard to make an impact or sit and be a spectator cheering the achievers.

Thank you for saying this my brother

The fine of visa expiration is JAIL!!! and they know it! so why are they going against the Rule,

Visa expiration only attracts deportation in a civilized country and not jail

Note that the rules may be different from one country to another country, the good thing is to obey and respect the rules and regulations of your host country.
Travel / Re: Nigerians Living Illegally In China Are Now Going Through Hell! by faoni572(m): 10:02am On Sep 10, 2008
faakay, being igbo or Yoruba has nothing to do with it.  It doesnt matter if you are illegal or legal, the fact is that everyone deserves to be treated as a human being.  Illegal immigrants are not criminals!!!!!!

Sorry, illegal immigrants are criminals, although, they have to temper justice with mercy for them. Anybody that goes against the law is a criminal.

Faoni,

did u actually hear the prophesies he made or u read newspaper excerpts where they summarize the sensational part for us to read?
i have heard and listened to some of them and have come to my conclusion.
i would advise that u try and layhold on some of these tapes or u check his church website.
till today he is yet to change them.

I didn't hear the prophesy but I read it in newspapers where he said Yaradua is the messiah of Nigeria. When I am making my facts I don't base it on hearsay, I actually read it myself on newspapers online last year.

We don't have to be religion fanatics

Politics / Re: So What If Mr. President Is Sick? by faoni572(m): 10:59am On Sep 09, 2008
First and foremost why is he hiding his sickness. It is true everybody dey sick but why our so called Mr president is hiding his own. He should come out plainly and let people know his ailment atleast people can pray for him. The second thing is that when he knows he has disease why did he go for presidency. Most companies when they want to employ they detemine physical fitness just to be sure that the person can perform well, how much more is the office of the presidency that is highly demanding. You mentioned JFK was sick when he was the president but you can't compare what he did to what yaradua has done, and there is no assuarance that throughout 8 years of yaradua he will do halve of what JFK did in US. So if he has disease why did he go for presidency and if he go for presidency he must surely know that he has to perform.

It is very shameful if our president is now leaving and entering the country under the cover of darkness so that people will not know what is happening.

Look! the government of yaradua is full of secrecy and rumours, people lack information, they don't give enough information to people any longer, everything is in secret, he battle his ailment in secrect, there was one time his birth date was not know and he refused to tell people, remember the plane that crashed in Cross Rivers State, there were so many romours about its whereabout. Yaradua government is full of secrecy and romours

I remember somebody said it in this nairaland that they should ban religion in this country, which is true and I fully support it. So many people use religion to cover. Now we have fake pastors around us. If they don't hear God's voice why can't they keep quiet instead of deceiving people and the blind sheep will continue to follow them.
Politics / Re: Are Nigerians Generally Unpatriotic? by faoni572(m): 3:33pm On Sep 08, 2008
sleek_p:

What contributions have these unpatriotic Nigerians made? Answer: None
You can't expect Nigeria to be like America when all we do is nothing. Every one has a part to play in Nigeria's development.
Question:
Should Indians be patriotic when they produce more graduates than the whole of Africa and yet one of the poorest nation in the world?
Should any Chinese be patriotic when they cannot harness the millions of graduates each year?

My point is Indians and Chinese are some of the most patriotic people on earth, they never gave up on their country. See how the dividends are paying now in China.
Don't give up on your country for Rome was not built in a day. Their are dynamics that makes us poorer than Malaysia even though we got independence the same year.
Don't always ask what Nigeria can do for you, sometimes ask yourself what you can do for Nigeria.

So you mean I should start constructing good roads for myself, producing portable water and generate electricity for people?

Government should simply wake up to their responsibilities. Nigerians are hardworking people and I still don't know what you people means by saying we should contribute to Nigeria. People are working hard already but those at the corridors of powers continue to embezzle and loot treasury .Let the government utilise our money to provides social infrastructures. Environment determine how best you can put in to your country.

dudu-bobo:

It is not a sin to be patriotic neither does it take anything away from anyone to be patriotic. Each to their own.

However, those who are saying that Nigeria does not protect them and that Nigeria does not have electricity whereas America has such etc etc need to think well. Who makes things happen in America? Who ensures that merican citizens around the world are well protected and regarded?

When we start realising that we are contributing to our own problems in various ways, we'll stop pointing at expectations from everyone else. What exactly have we contributed to the entity called Nigeria that we expect so much from? Americans generally love their country and try to do things not to damage their Nation. Same cannot be said of the generality of the Nigerian population yet we are expecting the same Nation to give us everything and to provide manna for us.

If you don't love Nigeria, it's your prerogative but for you to start condemning Nigeria for not providing for you when you have contributed nothing to the nation is tantamount to expecting manna from heaven.

I want you to know that by merely working or doing bussiness in Nigeria we are already contributing to the nation. I don't think you expect me to have billions of naira in my pocket so I can build roads all in the name that I am contributing to the developments of Nigeria, those are the basic functions of government. The functions of govenment are to provide basic amenities and protection to their citizens. Let them perform their own roles and that will enable us to perform our own roles. There is enough money to build this country but they siphon it to the pockets.

Even by merely working or doing bussiness in this country simply means we are putting in our best as citizens. I don't know what you want from people before you can know they are contributing, you want them to cut their heads?

You think US citizens just woke up one day and start being patriotic without reasons? Do they operate QUOTA SYSTEM in USA? Some of you don't think at all.

That's a good point, how can you be patriotic to a country that can not serve you better. You want to be patriotic because they are carrying public fund in their pockets.
