Give him 60years, Jonathan can’t still fight corruption, terrorism…read why The All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged Nigerians to use their votes to express their dissatisfaction with President Goodluck Jonathan for his inability to fight the two main challenges facing the country, corruption and security, despite having six years to do so. In a statement issued in Lagos on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party stated that even if Jonathan ruled the country for 60 years he cannot fight corruption and terrorism. “The President has finally admitted that the two main challenges facing the country are corruption and insecurity, and seems to be telling Nigerians to give him more time to tackle the problems. But the truth is that he lacks the capacity to fight and defeat these challenges, whether in six or 10 years,” the party said. “A President who has spent the last six years trying to diagnose the main problems facing the country will apparently need another four years to plan how to tackle the challenges. By then, all of us would have been buried under the rubble of corruption and our country would have been decimated by insecurity. It is therefore time for Nigerians to vote in a President who will hit the ground running, a President who will tackle the problems of corruption and insecurity headlong, without giving excuses for failure,” it said. APC said a corrupt government can never fight corruption, hence it will be futile to expect the Jonathan Administration to take on and defeat corruption, having been populated by profiteering personalities. “Mr. President said he wants to put in place the institutions to tackle corruption before taking on the canker worm that has almost destroyed the fabric of our society. Pray, whatever happened to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC)? Were they not institutions specifically created for the purpose of tackling corruption, but which the Jonathan Administration chose to castrate? “There is no better way to say this: President Jonathan lacks the political will to tackle corruption, and he will not tackle it if he spends 60 years in office,” the party said. It also said the President missed a golden opportunity to take on and defeat the Boko Haram insurgency in its early stages, and instead chose to engage in shadowboxing. When he was not blaming everyone but his Administration for the insurgency, he was playing primordial politics with it, to such an extent that the terrorists became strengthened and emboldened to strike at times and places of their own choosing. “Had the President learnt a lesson or two from the crushing defeat of the Maitatsine sect by General Muhammadu Buhari, which signalled the death knell of the sect that is a precursor of Boko Haram, the insurgency that is daily claiming the lives of our citizens would have been defeated early on. “It is too late in the day for President Jonathan to engage in sophistry over the twin evil of corruption and insecurity. He has reached the limit of his capacity to tackle these challenges and it is time to allow those with necessary political will and capacity to take on the challenges before they crush the country,” the statement said. Awolowo’s wife backs Osinbajo January 2, 2015Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji The wife of late politician and leader, Obafemi Awolowo, has given her support to Yemi Osinbajo, the vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, with a call on Nigerians to vote Mr. Osinbajo at the February 14 election. Mr. Osinbajo is the running mate to Muhammadu Buhari, the former military ruler, who is challenging President Goodluck Jonathan to the top job. The call came when Mr. Osinbajo paid a visit to the matriarch, Hannah Awolowo, at her Ikenne home. Mrs. Awolowo expressed her gratitude to God over the choice of Mr. Osinbajo as the running mate of Mr. Buhari and sought the support of the people of Ikenne in particular and Nigerians in general to make the dream comes to fulfilment. “I am very grateful this morning to see that Yemi Osinbajo is going to higher ground and it is my prayer that he will get there. I urge you all to support his aspiration. God will take you there,” she said. Earlier in his speech, Mr. Osinbajo eulogized the virtues of the late leader, Obafemi Awolowo, for his contribution to the development of the country, assuring that his party would not derail in carrying on with the his good policies and programmes. “My choice as the vice-presidential candidate of our party is a rare opportunity for Remoland, Ogun State and Nigeria. It is God’s divine. Awolowo came out of Remoland to become the Premier of the defunct Western region and he did excellently well. It is my utmost believe and prayer that we will do more than him,” Mr. Osinbajo said. He said he was in Ikenne, his homestead, to receive blessings from the nonagenarian for a successful outcome at the polls come Feburary 14. He attributed high level of insecurity, unemployment, failure in the power sector and other socio-economic challenges confronting Nigeria to bad leadership, promising that his party would bring about the desired change in all ramifications. Mr. Osinbajo was accompanied by his wife, Dolapo, his twin brother, Akin Osinbajo, who was former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ogun State, the Iyaloja General of Remoland, Mercy Owolana, a former senator, Olorunimbe Mamora, among others. The team also paid a courtesy call on the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Michael Sonariwo, and the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Kayode Adetona. Mr. Osinbajo had earlier visited homes of notable sons of the town which include Adeleke Adesina, who is the coordinator of Ikenne’s Peoples Forum and Idowu Sofola. In his remark, at a town hall meeting, held at Ikenne Town Hall, Mr. Adesina called for support of sons and daughters of the town by voting for Buhari/Osinbajo in the elections. Mr. Adesina told the gathering which had in attendance members of different political parties that the forum was established to drum their unflinching support for their own, whom he said was a bonafide indigene of the town. “This is our project. The very day his name was announced as the running mate of Buhari was the very day we formed the Ikenne Peoples Forum, so that we can chart a common front by supporting our son, Professor Osinbajo,” he said. “The forum is not partisan. It consists of people from different political parties. Our goal is to vote for our son in becoming the number two citizen of this great country. He is God’s appointee and we must all support him. We must support him with our votes and that is why we are starting the campaign from home,” he added. Similarly, Mr. Mamora, in his address, appealed to indigenes and residents of the town to explore the capacity for rational decision by voting for APC in the forthcoming elections. |

Nigeria To Import Petroleum Products for 20 Years- THE PUNCH Nigeria and other African countries will continue to be net importers of petroleum products despite the availability of functional and quasi-functional refineries, and plans to build more refineries on the continent, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mr. Diezani Alison-Madueke, has said. According to her, plans to build more refineries in Angola, Uganda, Mozambique and Nigeria cannot change the situation. Alison-Madueke spoke at the eight edition of the Oil, Trading and Logistics (African Downstream) Expo held in Lagos on Tuesday. “Notwithstanding the possibility of building new refineries in Africa, including new projects in Angola (Sonaref refinery); Uganda (Uganda oil refinery); Mozambique (Nacala refinery); and Nigeria, among others, Africa will remain a net importer of petroleum products for at least 20 years to come,” she said. The minister, however, pointed out that Nigeria was already on the path to adding more capacity by 2020 through the proposed private refineries by the Dangote Group and Orient, and Bayelsa, Kogi, and Lagos states, among others. Alison-Madueke, who was represented by the Deputy Director, Gas, Department of Petroleum Resources, Mr. Oliver Okparaojiakor, said sub-Saharan Africa was the least sophisticated refining centre in the world. She said, “In fact, there are only 24fuels refineries within the region, with a total refining capacity of 1.6 million barrels per day for a population that is close to a billion. Population growth means more energy consumption. “However, the uncompetitive and inefficient nature of many of these refineries, combined with the difficulty in funding major upgrades, or new capacity, seem likely to keep the average utilisation at a low level in the short term. “The implication of population growth for Africa is that demand for petroleum products will continue to be on the rise without commensurate refining capacity addition. There is an urgent need to encourage investors to partner with national oil companies or privately to build more refineries, and for us to be less dependent on imports.” On petroleum products subsidies, the minister said the stunted growth of the downstream sector was attributable to the distortion introduced to the market as a direct result of the regulated regime in some sub-Saharan African countries, adding, “There is a need to eliminate this convoluted price subsidy and stimulate competition across the value chain.” The issue of subsidy, she explained, could not be over flogged, as according to the World Bank, subsidy on petroleum products in Nigeria and other oil-producing African countries would be unsustainable in the medium term. Alison-Madueke said heavy subsidy was an unsustainable expenditure even on the long term, as it generally promoted energy inefficiency and imprudent consumption. Over the last 10 years, she said Nigeria had taken important steps towards a more deregulated downstream, adding that to provide a competitive market environment and sustain supply, the downstream sector should be fully deregulated. Similarly, the Executive Secretary, Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, Mr. Farouk Ahmed, said activities in the downstream sector had facilitated a net inflow of investment in excess of N60bn. The Chairman, House Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), Mr. Dakoko Peterside, who represented the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, stated, “We are working on the Petroleum Industry Bill and we are conscious of the fact that it is very critical to the economy of Nigeria; and so, we are not taking it lightly. I want to reassure you again that we are taking the PIB very seriously and I’m very optimistic that the bill will be passed before 2015.” Copyright PUNCH. |

Nigerian Army dismisses 203 soldiers after secret night trial January 1, 2015Nicholas Ibekwe The Nigerian Army has dismissed 203 soldiers after a secret court martial held in the dead of the night, for allegedly disobeying a direct order from their commanding officer, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt. One of the sacked soldiers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the soldiers were dismissed for asking for support equipment, following the army’s plan to convey them in a tipper for an operation in Bama and Gwoza, two strongholds of Boko Haram insurgents. The soldier, who is originally of the 19th Battalion in Okitipupa in Ondo State, but attached to the 7th division in Maiduguri, said the army detained them for over 90 days before dismissing them after a midnight trial. He said they are owed up to five months in unpaid salaries. Narrating the event that led to their dismissal, the soldier said his unit reconvened in Maiduguri last August, after they were dislodged by the insurgents in Damboa in an operation where their commanding officer and several other soldiers were killed. He said they were given two weeks pass and that at the expiration of their pass, they were issued new uniforms, boots and 30 rounds of bullets each as opposed to the statutory 60 rounds. And were going to be conveyed in a tipper lorry to Gwoza and Bama for an operation. He said having engaged the insurgents in several past battles, majority of the soldiers argued that the operation would be fierce, and therefore requested support equipment. “So we asked for support weapons. No support weapon was provided. Our CO (Commanding Officer) said he would discuss with the GOC (General Officer Commanding) of the 7 Division at the headquarters. When he came back, he said we should stand down. We thought all was well,” our source said. But the request made by the soldiers fetched them more than they bargained for. The next day their new CO, Mohammed A, a lieutenant colonel from 195 battalion, Agenebode, ordered them to submit their weapons and uniforms or be charged with mutiny. “On the morning of 16 of August, after the GOC briefing, our commander started calling our names and he said anyone whose name is called should submit their uniform and weapon. He added that anyone who failed to do that would be charged for mutiny. We were surprised at what was happening. “He started from the most senior soldier among us, a warrant officer who had served for almost 30 years. They asked us to go back to the barrack. It is a war zone and our weapons had been taken from us. Staying around was of no use so we left Maiduguri back home.” The next order from the army hierarchy was for the soldiers to report to the 4th Brigade headquarters in Benin where they were detained for three months. “They kept us in the fenced field at the officers’ mess in 4th battalion headquarters. When we first arrived at Benin they took statements from us and took it to Maiduguri. The original charge against us was for deserting but after our statements were taken they changed the charge to disobedient to particular order. They said we disobeyed the CO’s order. They seized our phones, we couldn’t communicate with our families for the 90 days we were kept in detention,” our source said. After they were released on December 24, they were conveyed to their various units. The soldier said on getting to their units, a court martial was set up at about 11.30 p.m. where they were tried and dismissed. He said the next morning, they were evicted from the barrack with their families. “It was dismissal without benefits. After 17 years in service. Even people that served for 30 years were dismissed without benefits. We had no legal representation.” Army spokesperson, Olajide Laleye, a Brigadier General, could not be reached for comments on Thursday. Calls and messages to his telephone were not answered or returned. The dismissal of the 203 soldiers followed a wave of court-martialling of other soldiers for mutiny and other offences. On December 24, a military court-martial that sat in Abuja sentenced four soldiers to death by firing squad for alleged mutiny. That judgment came just about a week after another batch of 54 soldiers were condemned to death for refusing to fight the deadly Boko Haram sect. The 54 soldiers belonged to the 111 Special Forces battalion attached to the 7 division of the army in Maiduguri. They are to die by firing squad, the military court ruled. The soldiers were accused of disobeying a direct order from superior officers to take part in an operation aimed at dislodging Boko Haram terrorists from Delwa, Bulabulin and Damboa in Borno State. The soldiers said they refused to take part in the operation because the Army did not provide them with the required combat and support equipment needed for such operations. Earlier, in September, 12 soldiers were sentenced to death for allegedly shooting at a car conveying their commanding officer, Ahmed Mohammed, a Major General. The attack occurred May 14 at the army’s 7 Division, Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri, headed at the time by Mr. Mohammed. Others were also sentenced to life in jail for criminal conspiracy and attempt to commit murder. The soldiers revolted after some of their colleagues were ambushed and killed by Boko Haram extremists, an attack they blamed their commander for. Yet, more soldiers remain on trial for their conducts in the fight against the extremist sect, and face being sentenced to death. On December 23, another batch of 118 soldiers were transported from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to face charges in Abuja, the nation’s capital. It is not clear when the troops would be arraigned before the military court, but our sources said unlike their colleagues who were convicted December 17, the 118 soldiers are accused of offences less than mutiny. Also, 22 top officers, including a brigadier general, are being held at the Ikeja Military Cantonment in Lagos, preparatory to being arraigned for yet unclear offences. They could not be arraigned on December 22 because the court was not properly constituted. Their arraignment has now been scheduled for a date in January. The convicted soldiers, apart from the four that were sentenced December 24, have been moved to Lagos to await appeal, pardon or execution. |

My certificates consumed by fire, Sambo tells INEC DECEMBER 29, 2014 BY FRIDAY OLOKOR Ahead of the 2015 general elections, Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo has told the Independent National Electoral Commission that his Bachelors and Masters degrees certificates in Architecture from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, have been consumed by fire. Sambo, who is the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, made the declaration in the documents he filed with INEC and displayed on the commission’s office in Abuja although the details of the fire that consumed the certificates were not given. Sambo’s papers were received and stamped in INEC headquarters between December 10 and 18, 2014. The VP’s declaration was validated by two letters from the ABU, a copy of which was obtained by The PUNCH on Sunday. The first letter, signed by one Alhassan Garba for the institution’s registrar under the title, “To Whom it may Concern: Mohammed Namani Sambo,” read, “I certify that the above-named person having completed an approved course of study and passed the prescribed examinations was awarded the Bachelor of Science (Architecture) with Second Class Honours (Lower Division) in 1976 by the Senate of this University. His original certificate got burnt. Please treat his case in view of this certification. Thank you.” The second letter, also signed by Garba for the ABU registrar, read, “I certify that the above-named person having completed an approved course of study and passed the prescribed examinations was awarded the Master of Science (Architecture) on May 25, 1978 by the Senate of this University. His original certificate got burnt. Please treat his case in view of this certification. Thank you.” Meanwhile, indications have emerged that only 13 political parties would field presidential candidates in the 2015 elections. The parties and their candidates are the People Democratic Party, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan; the All Progressives Congress, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.); Action Alliance, Tunde Anifowose-Kelani; Kowa Party, Prof. Oluremi Sonaiya; United Progressives Party; Chief Chekwas Okorie; and National Conscience Party, Chief Martin Onovo. Others are African Democratic Congress, Dr. Ibrahim Nani; United Democratic Party, Godson Okoye; Alliance for Democracy, Rafiu Salau; Peoples Party of Nigeria, Kelvin Alagoa; Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, Alhaji Ganiyu Oseni; African Peoples Alliance, Alhaji Adebayo Ayeni; and Hope Democratic Party, Ambrose Owuru. Jonathan to Nigerians: Endure hardship that comes with fallen oil price December 28, 2014Talatu Usman PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan President Goodluck Jonathan has asked Nigerians to endure the effects of the current drop in global oil prices, saying the nation will survive it. Mr. Jonathan, while speaking at the Christ Apostolic Church in Abuja on Sunday, said the oil price drop is nothing compared to 2008 to 2009 when oil was sold for $40 per barrel. “Of course, if there is a drop in oil price, it will affect us in one way or the other. We tell our people to bear with us. It has happened before in 2008, 2009 that was almost about $40, we survived as a nation. “This time, by all predictions, it will not even go as low as that, we will surely survive it. The economic team is working very hard to stabilise it and we believe that although there may be temporary inconveniences, it will definitely not bring the economy down” he said. The President told the congregation that he decided to go round churches in Abuja to thank them for their prayers. He said even as the challenges facing the country increased during his tenure, Nigeria’s current woes would have been worse but for prayers. “With the prayers you continue to offer to God, God will see us through” he said, adding that it was worse in the bible days. The President said 2015 “is a tempting year for us” since election year in third world countries is always turbulent. “All that I will request of you is to continue to pray for us politicians, myself and other politicians from all political parties, for God to guide us in our utterances and what we do so that we will not sacrifice the lives of Nigerians because of our ambitions. “Nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian. Pray to God to give us that wisdom and mind to make sure we conduct ourselves in a way that will not set the country ablaze because of our own personal ambition. “There are so many good Nigerians that can hold the offices we are occupying or aspiring to occupy, it is by privilege of God that we are here in positions to ask for the mandates of Nigerians. “None of us should begin to think that he is the best person to be anywhere from state houses of assembly to the president. There are a thousand and one Nigerians that are super qualified more than those people who are even aspiring to occupy offices. “The development of Nigeria is what all of us want. If every aspirant has the mind to develop the people, the. You do not need to kill or maim people to get there. “You do not need to kill the people you want to develop in order to get to the office you want except if you are aspiring for that office for a different reason. “If the idea is to help the people, grow the economy and make the people happy, you won’t want to kill, you won’t want to maim or burn down houses, vehicles and property. “Human beings may see things differently but God can guide us, ” he added. Mr. Jonathan said his administration is coming up with policies to move the country forward; and subtly campaigned for votes in the coming elections saying: “those who are taking pains to look at what we are doing will agree with us that if we progress as a nation steadily in this manner, in the next four or five years, this country will be a better place.” The President admitted that the results of his “policies” are not obvious but said “God willing”, job opportunities will continue to increase and many more young people will be engaged. |

How Jonathan campaigns for Buhari – South East APC December 28, 2014Premium Times The South East chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has said the party’s presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, has greater chances of winning the February election because of the alleged poor performance of President Goodluck Jonathan. The spokesperson of the chapter, Osita Okechukwu, who stated this while addressing members in Enugu on Friday, said the president is the ‘de facto campaign manager” of his APC counterpart since he has nothing to show to Nigeria what he did for them in the last four years. Mr. Okechukwu explained that the election of Mr. Buhari, who he said had 60 per cent chance in the poll, had become imperative because Mr. Jonathan specifically failed woefully to provide welfare and security to Nigerian citizens, in spite of the unprecedented resources at his disposal. “President Jonathan lacks neither the political will to stem corruption or to fight Boko Haram; that’s the GMB Appeal, even from unlikely quarters like South-South and South East,” Mr. Okechukwu said. “Nigerians want positive change. Can a president who failed to utilise good oil revenue regime, succeed under oil glut regime? No! No! No!’ “It is my candid view that our dear president wasted golden opportunity by failing woefully to fulfil the promises he made four years ago.” The spokesperson recounted that on May 13, 2010, Mr. Jonathan awarded $23 billion contract for the construction of three Greenfield Refineries in Bayelsa, Lagos and Kogi States, but that five years after the “money had grown wings and the refineries dead on arrival.” He listed the implications of the failure to install the refineries to include the squandering of over N2 trillion annually in the importation of refined petroleum products; devaluation of the naira and economic downturn; gross unemployment; the return of the country to debt trap; unprecedented oil theft; and posting of phantom economic growth in the midst of widespread poverty. He said, “My brothers and sisters, you must agree with that if Mr. President, a young man with Ph D had performed; automatically Nigerians from all shades of opinion will not today be clamouring to vote for an old GMB for president, that’s why President Jonathan is his Campaign Chief.” Mr. Okechukwu thanked supporters from the South East for being the highest donors to the Buhari Support Fund, which has so far garnered over N54 million. “I commend my people for being a critical chain in the Buhari-Bandwagon-Vehicle for Salvation, so that tomorrow nobody can marginalize Ndigbo,” he said. |

Jonathan to reappoint Obanikoro minister for conceding defeat in Lagos PDP governoship race December 26, 2014Nicholas Ibekwe A former junior defence minister, Musiliu Obanikoro, will be heading back to Abuja as a top cabinet member as part of a deal personally brokered by President Goodluck Jonathan, for Mr. Obanikoro to discontinue his legal challenge of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary result for Lagos State, PREMIUM TIMES can confirm. Mr. Obanikoro was one of the biggest casualties of the PDP gubernatorial primaries, after resigning his ministerial position to vie for the party’s ticket in Lagos for the 2015 election. He lost to Jimi Agbaje, a relatively less known candidate, who had the backing of the party’s most powerful leaders in Lagos. Alongside Mr. Obanikoro, former ministers Emeka Wogu, Labaran Maku, Onyebuchi Chukwu, and Samuel Ortom, also lost their bids after leaving their posts to contest in their respective states. Mr. Obanikoro rejected the Lagos results and filed a legal challenge against the declaration of Mr. Agbaje as winner, kicking off a row that has the potential to ruin any chances the party may have in snatching Lagos from All Progressives Congress, APC in 2015. The logjam has finally been resolved amicably with the former minister accepting to withdraw his court case, at the same time fully support Mr. Agbaje as the PDP candidate, presidency sources have confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES. On Friday morning, a relaxed and visibly pleased Mr. Obanikoro appeared on Channels Television programme, Sunrise, to explain why he agreed to drop his court case challenging the result. Mr. Obanikoro said he acted in the interest of the party, and reflected on how the party needs a united front to defeat the APC and win Lagos after 15 years. “But as I’ve said to you, we want to win Lagos. And the only way we can win Lagos is if we are united and people see us as being responsible and ready to provide leadership. For 16 years we’ve had a running battle between Lagos and the federal government,” Mr. Obanikoro said. “We want a government in Lagos that will engage the federal government constructively for the good of Lagosians.” He denied agreeing to give up his legal challenge in return for a ministerial appointment, although he quickly added that he would be ready to serve if called upon to do so. “Any time that you are called to come and serve the public, I think it makes sense to accept and do just that. I’m in politics, for goodness sake, for the good of our people, and if an opportunity presents itself for me to come and manage the affairs of men and women, why will I turn it down?” he asked. PREMIUM TIMES can confirm that despite his denial, Mr. Obanikoro was given assurances from the highest office in the country that his personal interests would be well taken care of if he dropped his challenge. A source within the presidency, well aware of the negotiations leading to Mr Obanikoro’s decision to back off, said the former subordinate minister was assured by the president that he would be appointed a senior minister in January when the Senate reconvenes. “He reached a deal to be made a full minister in January and to continue holding his position if President Goodluck Jonathan gets re-elected in February,” our source said. Our source also said that Mr. Obanikoro was promised a prominent role in the president’s re-election campaign effort in the South West, especially in Lagos. “We don’t know what that role would be at the moment, but it is definitely not that of actively leading the campaign in the South West since he would have been appointed a minister then but he would definitely play a key role in the President Jonathan’s campaign,” the source added. Part of the terms reached with Mr. Obanikoro was for him to have a say in who becomes Mr. Agbaje’s running mate, as well as the right to choose some of the commissioners in Mr. Agbaje cabinet should he emerge winner of the Lagos gubernatorial election. Our source explained that the deal literally elevated Mr. Obanikoro from being a mere candidate to a power broker in Lagos and to some extent, southwest PDP. “As you can see, he has come out of the deal looking stronger and Bode George and (Adeseye) Ogunlewe are the losers here after all,” the source said. Bode George, a chieftain of the party, and Adeseye Ogunlewe, a former Minister of Works, are believed to be the power brokers behind the emergence of Mr. Agbaje as the PDP gubernatorial candidate in Lagos. However, they were not at the meetings where the deal was concretised, the source said. During the Sunrise interview, Mr. Obanikoro allayed concerns that the absence of both men may jeopardise the deal in the future saying both men eventually got what they wanted and there was no reason why they should not accept the decision of the party. “I believe Chief Bode George is on holiday somewhere outside Nigeria and I believe that if you look at the convergence there, you will see that all stakeholders particularly the aspirants who were aggrieved… Jimi Agbaje represents Ogunlewe and Bode George’s interest as far as I’m concerned and that is what that is all about and we have all now come together to embrace Jimi Agbaje,” he said. When asked if the absence of Messrs George and Ogunlewe during the negotiation isn’t a sign of trouble, our source said the deal was initiated by the president himself and that there is no way both men, regardless of their influence would dare to overrule the president. “The president is the national leader of the party and no one would want to scuttle a deal he personally brokered.” |

After Donating To Jonathan’s Campaign, Kogi Governor To Sack 6000 Workers For Lack Of Funds The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kogi chapter, has advised the state government against planned retrenchment of over 6,000 workers from the state civil service. The advice is contained in a communique signed by the state Chairman of the NLC, Mr James Odaudu, and Secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Mr J.O. Kolawole, at the end of a meeting of the organised labour in Lokoja on Sunday. The communique said that the State Executive Council (SEC) of Labour in the state had resolved that rather than embarking on mass retrenchment, government should allow the Implementation Committee of the 2014 Ogunmola Screening report to do its job. The congress said the implementation committee’s job had been taken over by the state Ministry of Finance, Budget and Planning Ministry and the Accountant General’s Office. The communique said that any attempt by government to retrench the over 6,000 workers and removal of their names from pay vouchers as from December would be opposed. “SEC in session, having noticed government’s plan to send away over 6,000 workers in Kogi State, hereby resolves that all workers in the state should reject salaries for the month of December, 2014, to protect the job security of our members,” the communiqué said. The union reiterated its stance that failure of the government to do the necessary would affect the peaceful industrial relations in the state. It also condemned the installment payment of the 2013 leave bonus spread over a period of 10 months and wondered when government would commence the payment of 2014 annual leave bonus. The congress commended the support, cooperation and loyalty of members in 2014 and called for the sustenance, saying that much more was required of them in the years ahead. |

You may add the two ex-national chairmen of PDP,Ahmadu Ali and Bamanga Tukukur whose sons are facing multi-billion naira oil subsidy fraud charges. It's sad some senseless Nigeria still believe we do not need a change from this same PDP while they claim they can't see the difference between APC and PDP.The difference between them is like daylight to darkness. If you choose not to see may you remain blinded for eternity. |
