greenmatorganic: Never use manure as part of your compost from vermiculture Material... .. U can use manure from farm animals. In fact, manure from pigs make excellent fertilizers. The thing there is to balance manure with a high carbon source like carbohydrate food waste and papers, cartons etc. Or you can load only one wide of the pile with manure so that the earthworms can have other places to go if the manure starts heating up excessively. In fact, the heat can help them multiply during cold periods. |

davidzfarm18: The fact is that birds should start dropping between 17-19weeks. anything above that is an issue. when a lady passes her EDD. definitely she would be disturbed. concerning the Egg weight issue. I just learnt that its not by the age at start of lay but the weight and management practice.
A pullets that started laying @ 17 weeks and weigh 1.5kg will give you bigger eggs than 1.45kg @ 22weeks. .. I don't agree with this. A pullet that start laying at 17 wks and weigh 1.5kg is probably fat. Fat birds don't lay well. U have to follow feeding and body wt plan for ur breed. |
Agriculture › Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by FarmTech(mod): 12:02am On Sep 21, 2015 |
poulvacancy15: I don't agree with this. You might not be perturbed if you plan that your pullets should not be laying by 19 weeks but it is an issue if you didn't. Its not helpful for the fellow who asked the question not to also get the right response and I believe he should answer the question raised on the weight of the bird. In addition can he tell us the breed of the bird he has stocked. This would allow a snap shot review of his posting. .. U're right about the weight. But birds normally start lay btw 18-24wks. |

pcoolioz: yes I did, the plan is a program I was given by a vet who raises broilers, they stop drinking when they are weak, the liquid food only works if they still eat or drink, it would only work if I decide to force it down its throat or smtn.. .. What I normally do is to help them drink using a syringe. I do that to all my sick birds and it takes time. The last ones I did it to were over 20 and only one died. If you just leave them like that, a lot will die. |

The first question to ask when ur wife is not a virgin is whether you yourself is a virgin. If you're not and you're not happy with ur wife, then u a selfish and greedy human being. So far as she didn't lie to you during courtship, you married what you bargained for, so be happy. |

pcoolioz: okay so after rereading and rereading every, I decided to get some layers but I still decided to experiment with 50broilers gotten from chi basically on the 31st of last month... so for the first 2weeks I lost none, feeling fly with myself as it was my first time and I didn't loose any, but after 2weeks n some days ...mehn the death started, most of th looked like they were stampeded... between two days like 10of them were dead, 5looked battered ..stampede I guess, the others looked like they died of natural causes...just dropped.. then I started noticing sent weak ones, they stopped being active and all, wouldn't eat nor drink, just standing there like they were cold, some struggled weakly till they died, even while on the floor..chipping weakly to death, while some other weak ones ended up bin stampeded before morning, or so I think... so in all I have 33left, getting to 3 weeks old, so any ideas as to what I did wrong? the ones left seem very strong and active thou... i dunno how to solve the stampedes thou, cos they like cuddling up every night, some even go underneath the others when its time to sleep...for heat I use a lantern, although I noticed this period just seems excessively cold.... so I am guessing the other things i might have done wrong were...I gave the vaccine wrong? they were just meant to die? cold? ideas anyone...cos its annoying picking up dead birds morning... I know I would do better the next time since I have some reasons I think may have caused them.. but if u think i flopped in anyway I am open for suggestions. .. What was ur vaccinatn plan and did u prevent coccidiosis? What did you do to help the sick ones to recover? http://www.farmersjoint.com/Thread-Emergency-Liquid-Food-for-Sick-Birds |

pcoolioz: yes its not impossible, the wind here at night is gangsta, the kind that sings by your window, the pen is covered half way with tampoline but its not impossible the cold still gets in, I was avoiding covering everything cos of heat? maybe that was a bad call but still I am about 6ft and the tampoline is up tp my shoulder level...so I duno .. Better to cover all and leave one or 2 openings at the top for ventilation. Visit them when the wind is singing to see what else you can do. |

azimibraun: ^^ When Ebola came some people made comments like me, some people reacted to it just like you. The rest is history. I just tried as much as I can to give a warning and I left it open ended by asking that folks do research and know the true position. Little did I know I was committing a crime. No wahala. I know my country and I know how they respond late to warnings in Nigeria. I just learnt that part of the reason for destroying giant African snails is that they carry parasites and can cause meningitis. If you advice a young Nigerian to take a loan or use his savings to start a snail business and just a week or month later there is a "Red Alert" from Federal ministry of health asking that snails farms should be destroyed? I am only just beign concerned. .. Actually you can get any disease from any animal during slaughtering. That's why u have to protect urself while slaughtering. With ebola, bush meat are nt that safe, but farm raised bush meats are safer. Likewise with snails. |
