I noticed the same with my last batch, esp during heat waves. But in the cold season... They always recover when I separate them and give them tylodox and vitamins. Newcatle disease have a symptom like that. When last did u give lasota?

My farm has welcome 1000 new DOC from ZARTECH yesterday around 9:00 PM. They are doing well so far but 5 have arrived dead. this morning, i found 3 dead ones. I have employed someone who is experienced in brooding to be taking care of them for two months. i have introduced Animal care CHICK MASH. They have taken glucose water on arrival, and vitalyte water this morning.

When do u plan giving gumboro, lasota and anticoccidiosis? Very imp if u don't want heavy mortality.

i support eggcelent and twomcfemad. if you spend 5k for your set of birds please continue with charcoal. my birds(2000) are 11 days today and i have spent about 9k on charchoal. so i advice you stick with charcoal. you can also try kerosene stove. its effective and less stressful though slightly higher than charcoal in terms of cost

I spent N10,260 with kerosene - 600 birds. I was thinking gas will be cheaper. Like how much does 14kg gas cost?

You can be creative here. They eat a lot of things. But we will go with potato(it covers the ground well),cocoyam,and this particular leaf plant that they like a lot. Its in the image I put up. Its actually used as a flower here in Nigeria. The key word here is improvisation.

Don't forget that their feed need be supplemented. I can supply you that. 50kg for 15k. Give them 3times a week. A 50kg bag should serve 1000 snails for at least a month.

15k? Chicken feed will do, but I'll not advise such expense. U hav to consider selling price too.

Japan? There own system must be hi-tech.

Yellow bulb or LED. Fluorescent not too good bc the birds can see the flickering.

Not a bad idea, but it won't make them to start laying. I normally give my birds an antibiotic monthly too.

fellow poultry farmers, hope your birds are all doing well. my ogas at the top,my good news is that my birds of 25weeks are giving me almost 70% out put in their production. the egg glut here is killing me.they are pricing the egg for 500,pls what can I do to increase the sizes of their egg.thanks

Ok, but u must be consistent. If nepa takes light u shud give them an alternative light.

Due to excessive use of drugs for treatment of respiratory disease, my 24 weeks layers 15% production has dropped to 8% which am really worried about . please what can i do to increase the production rapidly coz they really eating deep into my pocket . feeding 3000 plus layers is not easy... Hw do u know it's crd and what drugs have u used? Another thing is whether u gave the drugs at the correct dossage without trying to economize.

fellow farmers, my layers of 30weeks eats alot. they are 480 and i give them 2 bags daily. they are in the cage.

what is worrisome is that when i give them 1 bag around 6am before 8am the whole feed is finished. and they will stay like that till evening when i will give them the second bag.

am i underfeeding them? if i increase the feed they will finish it and i feel it will incrase the fat in them since they are in cage.

You can use any soap since the soap is used as a surfacant to help the oil dissolve. But the black soap may have additional insecticidial ppty.

Over to my oga in the house, respiratory disease has become persistent in my layers flocks for over two weeks now. Have been picking died birds at least 2 per day for past two weeks.. Treated them with tylodox and aminovet but the disease still persist.. I discovered there is mucus inside the mouth of the died ones.. Note:the birds are not sneezing nor coughing..
Your suggestions will really be appreciated.

Hard to tell without a lab test. How can it be respiratory problem without coughing or sneezing symptoms? only a few are 1.5kg & above. they also get extra lite @ nite, till 10pm.

@nakcin, I asked the guy about deworming them bt he said I should wait a while. they're the brown layers & are feeding on animal care feed since I got them @ 4wks

If you give extra light at the wrong time, you'll likely get small eggs. Since ur birds are 22 wks, it is not that late since some start laying at 24wks.

pls, I'm in a similar situation here. I have about 50 layers, 22wks old, only 1 is laying already.
My pen is always clean, well ventilated & spacious 4 the birds. they are well fed also.
the guy guiding me had said they ought to have started laying btwn 18- 20wks and so,he said l should give them egg formula 2 promp them laying bt 2 other friends rearing layers suggested using keproceryl/ neoceryl on them.
I'm kind'f worried here.

Can you check their weight to see if most of them are up to 1.5kg. If yes you can start giving them extra light at night if you can be consistent.

How much do u sell mushroom spawn?

UPDATE: Sickness now over. Unfortunately 2 died, bringing total mortality to 25 birds. 582 are now left. Mortality now 4.12%. I pray it will not pass 5%.
