Sure, I get what you mean now. Would be tricky to implement as over time, would replace this rider with another, and yes, you're right.

Its just a graphic effect.

First real review and first person to like the aura.

Would look critically at the connect box, see what other colours would blend with the theme.

Rider should flow into halo in what sense? Seeing him through the halo background?

Per footer, would add more links to fill up space on the right. Links aren't available yet.

@Dizzy, haven't uploaded the page yet. Still being worked on. You were quick to spot that.

@Yawa: I'm flattered. As regards how dark it appears, which I know some people might find depressing, I simply wanted a gritty feel, given who the site represents.

Been a while since I posted. Just drop by to see what's going on and exit.

Used to be pretty volatile back then, just commenting on requests for reviews. I see most of the guys then aren't active anymore.

Anyway, I've got a site I'm curious to know what you guys think about.

Address is www.wheelers-mc.com. Let the reviews roll.

The emails do exist and are functional, Musty.

By the way, I notice that what you have is "publicrelations@enyiimbafc.net" and not publicrelations@enyimbafc.net.
Webmasters / Re: Web Critics by Farriel(m): 7:09pm On Sep 09, 2008
Well, its hard to critic what is still more of an image than an actual webpage. (At least from a purely webdev angle so as to give a real analysis.)

The design itself is turning up nicely, but I think its quite sparse and needs just a little more detail. Your navigation is barely noticeable and can easily be overlooked. I think maybe a change of font and colour might do the trick. Or maybe its just because its an image and appears somewhat blurred. At this time, one cannot comment on the hover and current states so that can slide past. Again, the spaces between the links are not even.

Futhermore, I dont think the logo should sit beside the banner. It should stand out and be spotted, not viewed as part of a rotating banner.

As regards layout in general, I'll suggest you slice up your images a bit smaller and use divs for blank spaces, so the page downloads faster. I can see your layout is just made up of huge chunks of images. Of course every text should be a text and every image should be an image. There really shouldn't be imagetexts.

The bg colour could be a tad darker. Right now its too similar to the primary colours of the layout and somehow dulls the general look of it. I think a white background or grey that's a shade darker than what you have already will be ideal.

Footer shouldn't be that high unless it really needs to. There are other number of things I spot but right now these are just the few that catch the eye (my eye wink).

Hope this is helpful.
Webmasters / Re: Obama \ Enyimba Fc Website by Farriel(m): 1:55pm On Sep 05, 2008
Well, as regards this 'Obama \ Enyimba Fc Website' this will be my last comment.

I designed the layout of the Enyimba site long before Obama announced his race for the White House. I initially had a liner gradient of blue and white, which was OK as at the time of design. After stumbling upon the image on deviantArt and again on Barack Obama's site, I felt the halo theme will be great with my initial concept. Note that the images on the two sites are different. The one on Obama was clearly distinct from the one on deviant but the bluish halo theme existed on the two.

I tested it and it appeared superb. I ditched the linear background I had and used the background image, careful enough to conceal (albeit ineffectively,) the logo and sign up area.

I owe no apologies to anyone for that.

If you have a problem with it, you can go sulk somewhere. I honestly do not care what anyone thinks about. The same Obama who owns the site in question and his vice, Biden have at one time been accused of plagiarism. Which is more or less what this is. Not 'stealing', 'ripping off' or 'copying the website'.

I'm surprised that I'm accused of copying a website and yet the comparisons made were done with just the background images. Why weren't the whole sites taken into account? Why the backgrounds alone?

If you feel someone elses' idea or concept would enhance what you have in mind, I see no harm in that. Again, I apologize to no one for it. Of course, the halo theme of the image worked better than the original linear gradient I'd used and I opted for it.

From experience, I can tell that a lot of people who make comments such as stealing an idea or website, or in this case, a background image cannot come up with the controversial sites they find, give them 10 to 15 years.

There's more to the Enyimba site than just that 'background image' and I'll find it appropriate if those are taken into consideration before writing off the site based on just one aspect of it.

Enyimba traditionally uses a blue colour. Coincidentally, Barack Obama, or rather Democrats do too. If both sites appear to have same colour doesn't indicate copying. I tried as much as I could to come up with a distinct blue feel for the club, which I think the whole site as a whole does excellently. Naturally, the halo image adding to that effect. wink

I will try no more to defend myself or try to deny anything further. There's no point fueling a rather inconclusive post like the HC's initial comment.

The Enyimba website looks good. First and foremost. It works. Most importantly. These are what the club and fans who visit it care about. Not whether the background image came from Sarah Pallin or Dimitri Medvedev.

If you want to stress your points, you can feel free and continue. As for me, I'm done with this thread.

Again, I'm free to share ideas with anyone on web design tips and tricks. I'm always thrilled, speaking with Nigerian designers and developers.
Webmasters / Re: Obama \ Enyimba Fc Website by Farriel(m): 11:26am On Sep 05, 2008
How come nobody reads that post carefully?

I didn't get the image from deviant. I got it from BO's site. I couldn't find the image on deviant and somebody pointed out that it was there on Obama's site. I checked and it was used there. Of course you cant use an image with all the logo's and what nots.

I found couple of club website designs which I found great. I wanted to build the Enyimba site around such a design and the background added to the effect I was trying to create.
Webmasters / Re: Obama \ Enyimba Fc Website by Farriel(m): 11:22am On Sep 05, 2008
@ worldbest

Obviously, as all sites shift towards a more Web 2.0 feel, you'll simply take any similar looking sites as one copying the other? I've seen countless sites with similar look and feel but that doesn't necessarily mean a design is a replica of the other.

You'll hardly find a site that is 'completely original' in this time and age. All sites borrow elements from each other, whether in layouts, navigation, icons, colours, etc.

You wouldn't have taken it easy if you were the owner of the Enyimba site? Really? Well maybe you can point out to me how many original football websites there are in Nigeria, with which you'll compare that to and say 'Hey, this website is too identical to Obama's site. Get a new design.'

I am not saying they are not identical background images, I'm saying the two websites, in their entirety, are not identical.

HC:

@all

i'll like to state it again, i don't stand to gain anything from snifing out a design copy. We need to stand for originality, creativity and honesty. AM sure you must have been paid heavily for the job well done; i really don't care about that. I think you clients will be dissappointed if they find out you copied someone elses design. If you think am doing some sort of witch-hunting, go to google and search for website critics and send both websites to them and see what they'll say about it.

Keep the comments coming.

Sorry mate, but I'll just like to see your projects which have conformed strictly to your above paragraph. Again, I failed to spot the 'copied someone elses design' before I responded to your post but please tell me how else the sites appear similar, other than the bgs.
Webmasters / Re: Obama \ Enyimba Fc Website by Farriel(m): 9:25am On Sep 05, 2008
I see. Well there are people who read with their eyes open and there are some who do it with their eyes closed.

I said I could not find the same file on deviatArt. The one on the Obama site is a variation of the work on deviant. Obviously the (Obama) designer based his design on the concept on deviant. Just changed the top part of it but the cloudy sides are exact with the other version. What do you then make of this?

I only tried to explain to you the difference between using a bg image on a site and 'copying the website' as you had earlier mentioned, but don't seem to understand the difference, neither are you trying to. Like I said, you intended to cause a stir. You didn't get the response you thought you will, now you're sounding quite em, )&wink^*^).

Anyways, have fun.
Computers / Re: Google Browser Challenges Microsoft: Google Chrome by Farriel(m): 9:11am On Sep 05, 2008
To: xheggs and other users who put Firefox before Opera

As regards speed, Chrome is no way as fast as Opera. I can equally say the same thing for Firefox, which I use alongside Opera. When FF 3 was announced and Mozilla dubbed it the fastest browser, I downloaded it for that purpose but I was crudely disappointed as I found it even slower than previous versions.

I've always described Opera as the best browser out there and each time guys ask why, I point out speed to them. Not to mention the other nifty details about it.

Like speed dials
, which xheggs says FF does better with. With Opera, speed dials is not a plugin. Its built right in and that counts for stability and ease of use, unlike the plugin of FF which crashes and chews up memory.

There are other stuffs like mouse gestures which works charmingly and the handy paste and go feature. Not to mention Notes (with which you can select text on any portion of the screen and save to notes, so you can use it later. For example, if its a URL, without having to bookmark a millions sites).

Session management (no browser does this better - trust me, I've used them all. How can my system freeze while working, I pull the power plug. Return 2 days later, turn it on, launch Opera, it asks if I want to continue from last time, I say yes, and voila! All the pages display and I can go back and back and back and see all the other sites I was on - all the while, being offline? Is that not what sessions should truly be about and not asking Start New Session and cant do more than view the pages of static content, as all dynamic pages you were on fails to load, on FF that is?).

And my favourite feature of all, built in Mail and Contacts.

With the Mail feature, you just click on an email link and a tab pops up to compose a mail, right there in Opera. Provided you have configured your email settings, which is a breeze to do.

Whats more, all addresses you send mails to are automatically saved to your contacts list which you can access at anytime on or offline.

Furthermore, Opera has Voice Controlled browsing, with which you can verbally access your bookmarks or navigate a webpage.

Agan, the Transfer window in Opera is excellent and as far as I know, Opera is the only browser that supports torrent downloads.

What's more exciting about Opera is that you can edit a site preference by tweaking the browser identifier
. Meaning a site that requires IE to work, Opera can be used to mimic IE and the site opens and you do what you want on it. As far as security goes, its also great.

The list is virtually endless. I have not gone to a site to obtain the pros of Opera, I have simply listed a few of the many amazing things I do with it.

So, to me, its Opera > Firefox > Chrome > Safari > IE.

Not solely due to my fondness of Opera, but based purely on the features the browsers boasts off. I know FF fans will say there are a ton of plugins and ways to customize FF, but the truth is, without the plugins, many of which are great but causes FF to run using more of your precious memory, Opera stands alone and does a fine and decent job of web browsing.

Mr. HC, the website duplicate detector. Exactly what are you referring to? Have you taken the time to look at the source codes of the two sites? Do they appear similar in that regard? Are the two sites similar in anyway, other than they use identical backgrounds?

I take it that your intension is to create some sort of stir, nothing much. Otherwise you'll take time to check facts to support your claim. For your information Detective, as my ID shows, I'm Farriel. Same person who made the initial post on www.enyimbafc.net and obviously of course, designed the Enyimba website. I didnt 'copy' the Obama site, as you so erroneously claim.

Yes both sites use same background, but that's as far as their similarities go. The background in question is a file on deviant art. I tried to search for the original but couldnt find it before someone pointed out that a variation of it could be seen on Obama's site, which I then went ahead & used (carefully, but not fully obliterating the distinctiveness of the image) because the background I'd seen on deviant formed a core part of the concept design I had come up with for Enyimba.

So that's just about it, Inspector. Meanwhile, the current site of Enyimba is not the initial one I'd given here. This is the v2, more or less. Try to understand the phrase 'copy website', before using it next time.

Quite a late post, but I'm wondering if any user of a Kia Rio (who supposedly has a problem with it) can tell specifically what problems they are facing with the vehicle, besides it being a 'death trap', like many folks here are trying to make us believe.

I'm considering going for one myself and will appreciate any specific problem any user can highlight.
Sports / Enyimba Vs Man Utd - Live In Nigeria. by Farriel(m): 1:04pm On Jun 14, 2008
Hi Everyone,

I just got wind of this. Manchester United will play Enyimba when they arrive in July as part of their pre-season tour. Seven teams had been lined up, but it seems Enyimba have the advantage, considering their Champions League triumph and universal appeal.

If you think such a game would further strengthen our Nigerian premier league and lure foreign sponsorship so the league can be greatly improved and compete favourably in Nigeria, visit www.enyimbafc.net to find out how you can vote for one of the biggest games ever to be played in Nigeria.

This is a once in a 20 years chance of us, seeing a club like Man Utd play a Nigerian clubside. Let's make it a reality.

Impressive design.

But seriously, I do not think the whole site needed to be Flash. The navigation and banner could be, but certainly not the content below. It was more of an overkill to me. Perhaps you just wanted the page transitions, no?

Or maybe its the Flash syndrome. There's an almost innate tendency for Flash guys to design fully Flash sites when there are almost no reasons to. Most times, a div here, a div there, would suffice.

Anyway, I'm also curious about the gray panel at the top . . . What is it for? It holds no content and just takes out what would have been the gloss on an almost perfect design. Imagine if you'd had rounded edges at the top, just as you have at the bottom.
Sports / Re: Let's Support Our Local League, Now by Farriel(m): 5:07pm On Mar 22, 2008
Hello Everyone.

I'm Farriel, Webmaster of Enyimba FC.net and I want to point out a thing or two about the virus issue on the site (or rather, indicated in Google's search results).

There was indeed a breach of security on the server and some malicious content were uploaded. We were notified of this by our then webhosts (Yahoo Small Business) and we made efforts to get rid of it and tighten things up a bit.

However, within the time we were doing that, Google's StopBadware had already picked up the 'scent' of malware and immediately flagged the site as dangerous. I personally contacted Google to remove the notification but they haven't responded to me until now. Neither have they done what I requested, as everything had been taken care of.

I can assure you, there's nothing dangerous on the site. We are doing everything we can to get Google to remove that notice - as embarrassing as it is - and would continue to keep the site safe and secure.

If you visit www.enyimbafc.net directly, you can bypass that warning but it seems Google has added some tags to the link that automatically gets it flagged by certain desktop anti-virus applications. So if your anti-virus warns you of a virus, its all a Google glitch.

Once again, my friends, the site is safe and secure. I would continue to pressure Google until they get that notice off.

If you desire further information about the site or this malware issues, feel free to contact me personally at farriel * gmail.com

Thanks, people. By the way, I'm glad you care about our own league.

Been away from Nairaland for quite a while. Just dropped by, quickly accessed the Webmaster area and found this thread.

Afam, I've known you from a while back. When Nairaland had just 20K members or something, if not less - I felt inclined to say something to you. Not a review of your work, but something about reviews on Nairaland.

I personally think invitations to site reviews generate quite a number of comments the poster finds disparaging, rather than a constructive analysis that would generally improve what he or she has done.

Afam, Nairaland is a great place. One of the best places to chill but seriously I think you should just stop asking people to review a work you just did. You could PM my2cents or any other person that provides useful reviews, rather than open up your just completed work to folks to assess. Moreover, I notice that people rarely carry out whatever changes others ask them to carry out. So? Isn't it rather pointless?

I have been designing sites, since I stopped being an active member of Nairaland but I do not come to anyone here for reviews.

Not that we don't have great guys here who would help, but most times, its just not worth the hassle of reading some rather hurtful comments about a site you just did.

Cheers, my man.

And you sound like one who can't tell his elbow from his wrist. You honestly have no ideas whatsoever in such matters and you dare abuse everyone of sounding like illiterates, WTF.

What is a sensible logo like, Segebee? How about logical, can you refer me to other logos that appear 'logical' to you?

In this day & age, a logo should be true to what it is intended to be. A graphical element, that, together with its logotype (a uniquely set and arranged typeface) form a trademark or commercial brand. Typically, a logo's design is for immediate recognition and inspiring loyalty.

Where does the Intercontinental logo fit into this description? As a bank, it should be better than it looks now. That's what a lot of people here are saying and they cannot be called illiterates for that.

I've done quite a number of logos in my time and I can tell you categorically, from a designer's standpoint. That logo is f**ked.

Quite easily, the most horrible logo of the decade. To even think its a new brand identity, WTF!
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: I Dont Know How To Draw And I Want To Become A Graphics Artist by Farriel(m): 12:53pm On Nov 30, 2007
Possessing drawing skills would prove really significant as it will give you a more expressive form in your designs. If you want to do extremely well in your graphic design, take out time to attend a basic Fine Art class around you.

Whichever way, you need to understand what aspect of computer graphics you want to get involved - cos the term CG is catch-all. To begin, you need to know the tools to work with, based on the sort of CG designs you want to do. Some funadmental questions you need to ask yourself are:

Do I want to carry out 2D designs or 3D? What platform am I designing for, Web or Print media? (In my view, both are mutually exclusive.)

For Print, you need some descent knowledge in overall desktop publishing. An application called Quark Express used with Photoshop would prove remarkable.

For Web, Illustration and Design programs would do you good. Photoshop, Fireworks, etc. Still on Web, if you're going into animation, then like a couple of posters pointed, you need Flash.

Of course we have CAD (Computer Aided Design) graphics, though a lot of people dont see it as one. AutoCAD would be suitable.

There's also Motion Graphics, which is forming a greater part of the CG industry.

I could go on and on but I'm sure you get my drift. Know what you want to do, then learn what you need for it.

Religion / Re: Mountain Of Fire And Miracles (MFM) by Farriel(m): 11:39am On Nov 30, 2007
They didn't have to run after demons, Shinystar. And, quite seriously, the emphasis on demons isn't a misplaced one in this society of ours.

Africa, and quite significantly Nigeria, has a culture tied deeply to demonic worship. All around, South to East to West to Northern Nigeria, you'll find practices closley tied to demonism or as they locally put it, JUJU.

Demonic practices forms the basis of most cultures here in Nigeria. From the very libations performed by people before drinking vodka, to the annual festive celebrations carried out, to the rites performed during the burial of a loved one, you'll find it tied to the very fabric of the lives people live.

In such a society, it is by no means out of place or context that a Christian organization emphasizes the need to be saved, prayerful and overcome that which has all but crippled millions of people (not physically of course).

From your comments, I take it that you're young, perhaps unmarried. As you get older and have children, get involved with the families of your wife and hear stories of spiritual attacks, maybe upon your child or upon you yourself, you'll take the works of MFM a bit seriously.

Time was when I used to share such skepticisms about such churches. Now I no longer.

If you've lived in a family where members die unnaturally, in the most terrible forms, blood seeping from their ears and noses, you'll know that a prayerful church such as MFM is where you have to run to. I haven't lived in one, but I know many and speak from things I've heard and seen.

Whether you think it is true or not, demonic attacks are real and such violent prayers are the best forms of counter-attacks.

Yeah, I know its the same thing as that, nevertheless, I can't find either of it. Whether I call it Lipitor or Atorvastatin, I just can't find it. And yes, I'd spoken to my Doctor about it and he's promised to ask around but I can't count on that promise.

Is it readily available in Ibadan, Ajolayo? I don't mind sending you the dough to get it and send it across to me. I know it's expensive, but it's a tried drug and I think I should go with it, rather than alternative cholestrol reducing drugs.

What say you man?
Health / Where Can One Obtain Lipitor? by Farriel(m): 12:58pm On Apr 11, 2007
I was diagnosed with arrhythmia after experiencing palpitations during sleep one night. Arrhythmia & High Blood Pressure.

The cardiologist said my LDL (bad) cholestrol level was high and that I seriously needed Lipitor along with some blood pressure drugs which I found and bought. Drugs like Norvasc, Vasoprin, Modiuretic, etc.

I've been looking for Lipitor everywhere but can't seem to find it anywhere. In all the major pharmaceutical outlets, clinics and hospitals. There's a project I'm handling at Umuahia and so my current locations are Umuahia where I work and Port Harcourt where I permanently live. I'm sure most of you must have heard about Lipitor (the drug which has fetched Pfizer billions of dollars).

If you have access to it or know where I can buy it, could I please be informed? I am of course exercising and dieting but all of these are not enough to reduce the high level of LDL cholestrol in my bloody arteries.
