Nairaland GeneralRe: Dear Seun, Isn't It About Time We Had An Economy Section? by Favolly(f): 12:00am On Nov 27, 2015
Nice Suggestion

Although I guess the Business section is supposed to cover all matters relating to entrepreneurship and the economy.

The latest economic policy by the Monetary Policy Committee was posted there 2 days ago, and at least to a good extent, there was some banter and discussion on the intent of the policy, what the implications would be going forward, and interested persons were able to gain clarity on some of the issues raised.

However, I don't think having an Economy section wholly dedicated to the discussion or debate of economic policies and decisions would be a bad idea though. Except that it may be scanty, due to lack of content because in the end, these decisions aren't made everyday

No, my sister. Church income is not taxable and the church continues to enjoy its privileges as a non profit organization. There's no plan to cause trouble for anyone. However, the commission as one of our country's democratic institutions has work to do now that some Pastors are selling holy water, persuading Christmas to eat grass and snakes and compelling to pay exorbitant tithe and offering amounts. The commission has to conduct hearings and submit recommendations to the government and legislators.

Dear Valued Customer,

STATE OF THE MARKETS

Greetings from your investment management team at FBN Capital Asset Management.

Over the last 8 weeks, from 23 September, you may have noticed that market interest rates, in this case measured by Treasury Bills, FGN Bonds and bank tenured deposits have declined considerably. For example when the fixed income markets closed yesterday 24 November, a 364 day Treasury Bills yield to maturity had declined from about 15% to about 7%, the yield to maturity on long-dated bonds, e.g. the FGN 2024 from 15% to 11% and bank tenured deposits from about 13% to about 5%. These are a selection of fixed income instruments our mutual funds invest in to deliver on the investment objective of each respective fund. The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) at the conclusion of its meeting yesterday 24 November, 2015 has now also reduced the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) from 13% to 11% signaling its desire to keep rates low and stimulate the economy. The equity market has fared no better haven fallen 20.37% year to date.

The consequence of all these is that as the pool of fixed income investments in each portfolio matures and we get new inflows into the funds, we invest and reinvest at these lower market rates which impact the returns on the fund. As you have entrusted us with investing your savings in our mutual funds, please be rest assured that we at FBN Capital Asset Management remain unflinchingly committed to delivering competitive returns to you and we will continue to use our skills and in-house expertise to source for and invest in assets for each fund that deliver returns above market expectations and grow your savings and wealth.

Please look out for the next factsheet of each product, delivered to your inbox in the first week of next month which will give you more information of market conditions and returns on each fund.

Once again, we thank you for choosing FBN Capital Asset Management and our products.

Yours sincerely,

Michael Oyebola

Managing Director / Chief Investment Officer

Can somebody just tell me in clear terms if the current interest rate of 25% on my loan will be reduced to 23% following this development?.
I have experinced a total of 3% increase in the original interest rate and each increment was attributed to increase in lending rate by CBN.
It largely depends on the initial agreement in your term sheet. Did you agree on a fixed rate or a floating rate hinged on the MPR?
If you are not sure, just speak to your banker

My guess is that it's a floating rate, based on your comment. So your interest rate may likely be reduced. Speak to your banker still
BusinessRe: CBN Reduces Lending Rate To 11 Percent by Favolly(f): 11:47am On Nov 25, 2015
Johnrake69:
Actually the ARM money market fund goes with a floating rate. And since inception it hasn't done below 10% per annum. The idea is that your money yields something each day it stays with us; and the rate varies daily. The rate as at yesterday was 11.87%.

You can send me an email at kelvin.chiejine@arm.com.ng.
Yes, I understand that it's a floating rate because it changes everyday.
However, now that it's around 11.8%, I fear that it may actually go below 10% before the end of 2016 Q1. But this is based on my assumption that it's benchmarked against FG Treasury bills. Correct me if i assumed wrongly please.

Thanks for the info anyways, I actually blindly assumed money market fund rates were dancing around 12 and 13%.
I guess I'll just take my chances with equities, they should be doing better in the near future.

Thanks

As much as I applaud her taking a stand , I would
say that in this case it was overrated.
Businesses exist to serve customers /clients not
employees. If as per feedback from the
customers, the business decides to have a dress
code, should they now turn around because of
one employee? Should employees be pleased at
the expense of their clients? Its
the employers decision to do what ’s fitting for
his /her company .

Lol! But i read where you attacked someone, saying Nigeria is a multi-religious country. Why are you now narrowing it down to 2 just because the traditionalists are asking for their rights?

Please can you also enlighten us on this holiday that starts from the 18th of December and ends in January?

But I definitely agree that it shouldn't be on this list

Now people would be able to borrow at 11% to buy Tb at 13% or even mutual funds. I see a lot of internal lending deals in the banks.

A situation were a manager would lend himself #500M and make 2% of that right away. Cool #10M!
Err... Actually, this is a money market issue.
With this new development, borrowing is cheaper so Tbills wouldn't go for as much as 13% anymore

But I am still going to Ecobank mane to see if the interest rate on my loan has dropped as a result of this monetary policy. Na that one concern me now.
Lol! I honestly doubt that this policy would be applied retrospectively. It's more of a going forward thing. Wasn't a term sheet drawn for your transaction?

Your whole 'chai how did we get here talk. Someone made a mistake and is clearly moving on and you guys are still flogging yourselves over it. She is back to school, still a model and is now doing business. So the 'chai, how did we get here talk, was totally unnecessary. Well, to each his own mentality.
No, ma'am! It was my opinion and it wasn't unnecessary. She is supposed to be in school, and I dont see her in school. Instead, we see her selling bag and clothes, like we dont already have enough people shoving bags and clothes under our noses. That was the basis for my 'How did we get here' talk.

If you're trying to prove that she's moving on from her mistakes, then by all means do so without telling me my opinion is unnecessary. It is very necessary as this story is a lesson for our young fresh-out-of-high school lasses who probably do not know any better.

Have a good night
