Yes. Especially if you are applying for a visiting visa. You need to show that you qualify for a on your own merit, so having a good financial standing in your home country would certainly help your application. If I may ask, why is your sister sponsoring you though? Not that it is a crime, but the VO would be more inclined to approve if you could demonstrate some sort of financial independence, good job, family, etc as part of home country ties. All the best in your application. Wumi93: Someone should please help, it's urgent |

Nope. All Qatar airways from Entebbe to Boston. Then Alaska airlines from Boston to San Francisco. Also there were no change of planes in all the stopovers between Entebbe and Doha. Just technical stopovers to drop passengers, refuel, pick up some new passengers and take off. What I observe is that passenger volume in East Africa is low. Unlike naija where they would even oversell seats self. In spite of all the pick and drop, I had a whole row of 3 seats to myself. seyewest: Nice one... is the flight in conjunction with Rwanda Air? |

My POE experience today 10th November. POE: Boston Logan. It was a long trip and I was tired, disoriented due to the many stopovers. I flew Qatar airways from Uganda Entebbe Airport-Kigali-Salalah-Doha-Boston. After the automatic border control machines, I joined the queue. About 3 flights arrived at the same time so the crowd was quite a huge one. Officer: Hello how are you today? Me: I'm ok. Officer: where are you flying in from? Me: Uganda Officer: What is the purpose of your visit? Me: bump bump Officer: Do you have the flight ticket to your next destination? Me: yes, but I dont have the boarding pass since its a different airline Officer: What do you do? Me: I am a ... Officer: I see. How long are you staying? Me: x days Officer: How much money do you have on you? Me: $x Stamps me in till May 2019. Have a good one Me: thanks Waiting to board my flight to San Francisco. Goodluck and safe trip to everyone traveling around this time. The temperatures have really dropped so y'all stay warm. |

It is a dicey one really. Have him check himself because for the visa to have been revoked, the consulate probably found some inconsistencies in his info -coulda be during the Canadian visa application process. Now if the US visa has been flagged, physical revocation stamp or not, the Schengen or UK consulates would see the record no thanks to e-passport. If he has some funds to spare, he could give it a shot and apply for the any of them. Who knows, it may not be that serious. lex02: thank you very much for this am most grateful but pls what do u think if...i advice him to apply for uk or schgen first then if he get it he can go to the embassy or maybe he shud takes all his document there, statement of account, landed documents, work papers and any other evidence to show his backings and he is been given a chance we neva can tell fear again is what his visa is revoked no other 3rd world country might be able to grant him a visa. Assuming he goes with the first options to apply for other country and wen he decides to take his passport to find out what the problem is and de as him why didnt he come all these while, will that not raise additional tension assuming de might want to reconsider. |

Apologies, I dunno how to reply to multiple comments, so I 'll just reply to this last one. @abnot, @MamaOO You both made valid points and both probably spoke from personal experiences of peeps around you. Now I know of two people with similar circumstances. Their mum's were denied visitors visas while they were on F1 status in the USA. In one of the cases, the Consular Officer pointed told the woman that the daughter had established immigrant intent and that she told them she was going to the US to study when she was granted the visa bla bla bla... Some of these things are discretionary. The OP could post this question on Quora. There is this badass Consular Officer Kathryn Berck who would probably give an insight. She also claimed to have worked in a Nigeria and helped trained consular officers. Blessed day to everyone. abnot: Ok learnt and noted lol. Don't mind my misunderstanding bits of your comments. So where is the letter given to you informing you of the cancellation of your visa? That may be a good place to start because what you posted is the one given she you were denied recently. dabol007: The refusal paper given to me is what they gave to other people and it is same language. no home tie and they didn't check documents and my bank statements so how they arrive at that is my major concern. Attached is the green paper when my visa was cancelled and the pink for my latest refusal. what is stated is all I have authentic. |

@ the bolded, still not true sir. The expiration date of a US visa is the last date by which you are allowed into the US with that particular visa. Your duration of stay is determined by the CBP officer at the POE. You could only run into problems if you overstay your duration as indicated on the Admission stamp at the POE. seyewest: It was not a false conclusion I only advice you based on my experience, What I know is that even if your stay is extended at POE, you will be invited for interview when next you applied for renewal through dropbox because you need to explain why you stayed a day extra after expiration of your visa in U.S,it's left for you to explain yourself, this you can not escape. If I've offended you I'm very sorry. |

I had travelled with 12 days validity on my visa in the past and no one raised an eyebrow at the POE. I am almost certain that your visa would be revoked at the POE and you would be on the next available flight to Lagos. I am not sure what would become of your wife who is a Nigerian citizen with an American baby. You wouldn't be the first to attempt this and the CBP officials are familiar with all these antics. If you plan on relocating to the US, you better do it the legal way. christar1: Please Advise. Can I drop my wife in US to have a baby, return to Nigeria for 5 months and return to US without issues at PoE?
I have a very important business I'm doing in Nigeria for a few months after which I and wife plan to relocate to USA by applying for change of status from B visa to F1 Visa after arrival. But we realized she is pregnant now.
Assuming we both go now and I set her up with a hospital and relatives and I return to Nigeria to finish my business, when i return to US in 5 months time b4 her i-94 expires (assuming we got 6 months on our i-94 the first time), would the CBP be able to know that my wife is in US and would they find my movement unusual even though my wife would still be legal at that time, as per her i-94?
I don't want them to start asking questions like "Why did you leave your wife here for 5 months after your vacation and why have you come back? etc."
How can I avoid this scenario? What do you think? |

JFK is cool. I just returned last week and I'm flying back next week via same good ol' JFK. The only thing is some renovations are ongoing in some of the terminals so you may miss many of the favourite shops, otherwise just relax and enjoy your trip. jazzy: So, i ve been following this thread since i got my visa approved in April, its funny how i never saw it pre- my interview but daily, i m drawn to just look through and read. let me share my transcript.
Rainy day, got there early, joined the long queue, all i could see was blue papers flying left right and centre, i was calm previously o, until i started observing people returning with their passports and the blue sheet. One particular lady with a shrilly voice wasnt approving any visas, i silently prayed i wouldn't be sent to her. Thankfully my prayers were answered, was sent to a queue with an African American. She took so much time with the lady in front of me and i cant remember if she gave her but i walked up when it was my turn and the following conversation happened.
VO: Good Morning, can i have your passport please. Me: Good Morning, here it is VO: What is your purpose for travelling to the United States Me: i would like to spend my annual vacation on holiday, visiting a friend VO: Why are your choosing to travel to the United States at this time? Me: My host has about 15 days ish free and its my vacation period so what better time to travel VO: (Typing viciously) where will you be staying during in the US Me: Passaic, New Jersey VO: What do you do for a living ME: I work in a XXXX as a Corporate Strategy Analyst VO: Have you made any trip outside the country before Me: Yes - Twice to the United Kingdom and the DRC for work last year VO: (Checks my UK visa with some funny pen that had a light) What did you go to do in the DRC Me: i work as a Strategy analyst and we went to develop strategic plans for our international subsidiary there VO: (Silence, continues to type for long) looks up, are you married ME; No VO: Engaged? ME: No VO: Do you have any kids? ME: No VO( continues typing), How long do you intend to stay in the US ME: About 3 weeks my holidays are just 20 working days. VO: looks up , picks the white paper and cycles the address to pick up Visa. Your Visa has been approved, please note the amount of time you are stamped in when you get to the POE, so you dont overstay. Have a good one ME: thank you. have a good day also.
I walked away, entered the rest room, used it and left.. I was a bit nervous with the long silences but i just kept a pleasantly un-emotional face..
I m a bit concerned about this whole JFK business cos, i ve purchased my ticked to fly in through JFK and its even a tad more hectic cos Abu dhabi has a US pre-clearance centre but i m not worried sha. God's gat me.
Nice reading from everyone i guess and thank you for helping people to know more about this process. *Drops Mic* |

Hubby -a jerk, no kids => profile of an intending immigrant. Let her build a strong economic tie here in Nigeria plus a good travel history. I can almost swear it though that you simply want to assist your family friend to escape from this our naija. But if truly her intentions are purely tourism, she could visit the UK or any other European country to have more travel experiences Iyayoyo: Good day all. So I sent an invitation to a family friend in Nigeria but she got denied twice on the basis of not having close ties . Is it because she is going to the interview herself without her husband or what? Cos on both occasions the Vo asked if she got kids with her husband that they have been married For three years but she said No. the issue is her husband is a busy jerk that don’t even have a passport the lady has been to Dubai prior to her first refusal before she reapplied . Any tip on what she can do. Does it make sense for her to answer yes the next they ask if she got kids? |

Congratulations bro. Maybe you should consider moving closer to Boston. Like Newton, Lynn or any of the cool suburbs. That way you don't have to drive long hours, just some few stops on the MBTA. The prestige of working in that city alone self is enough to add some extra chips to your shoulders. Lolz I lived in Boston/Cambridge as a postdoc at MIT and most of our Professors take the MBTA. BlowJobs: I am off today.
So i said earlier, things are suppose to be easier after getting a residency?
Hell no. I take that back. Don't get me wrong, i am doing remarkably okay. But i am stressed out. holy shhhit, I am stressed out.
I work in boston. Pay in boston is relatively higher. I get paid 21.75$ starting and i work 40-47hrs per week. I get two days off. I am however, sick of the driving. The traffic is terrible. I spent 2 hours in a 45-50mins drive. I have to pay 9$ to park everyday (they are increasing it to 16$ cos other parking garage is 16$). I have been applying to other jobs and doing interviews. I just haven't found something yet.
Getting a job is hard. DOn't get me wrong, there are jobs everywhere BUT once you become LEGAL (no more on a visa), you become so picky, your qualifications and how it can help your career path or a paying job comes to play.
I have become so picky. I have no passion to work long hours or Nights right now.
Right now, i just wanna find something closer so i don't have to drive far. I have two interviews scheduled for the rest of the week for now. I hope i get something.
Let me go back and sleep some more |
