Crime / Re: How We Killed Cynthia Osukogu — Suspects (Pix) by fe32(m): 2:21pm On Aug 23, 2012
the full confession as reported by vanguard. RIP Cynthia

Cynthia, our 5th victim – Killers of General’s daughter

By Evelyn Usman and Ruth Chukwuemeka
LAGOS— Emotions ran high, yesterday, at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja, following startling revelations by two university students on how Cynthia Osokogu, the only daughter of a retired General was strangled inside a hotel in Festac area of the state.

While parading the suspects, the police displayed 18 handsets, one brown Louis Vuitton bag, a black suede shoe belonging to the deceased, seven drivers licences, an unopened Ribena drink, two sunshades, two used syringes, eight wrist watches, four stamps from different banks, one chain and padlock, one international passport bearing the deceased name and over thirty complimentary cards, over fifty used and unused sim cards of various networks and an Identity card bearing Sunday Briggs which they said, were recovered from the suspects.

The undergraduates, Nwabufo Okwumo, 33, and Odera Ezekiel, 23, discovered to be cousins, claimed their intention was never to kill the 25 year-old post graduate student of Nasarawa State University but to collect her money and jewelries.

One of the suspects, Nwabufo, a 300 level Accounting student of the University of Lagos, admitted to have been chatting with the deceased on the blackberry for sometime. In the process, she revealed her true background including the fact that she owned a boutique.

But unknown to her, Nwabufo who hails from Nnewi, Anambra State had a sinister motive. Along the line, the deceased, according to him, informed him that she was coming to Lagos to buy wigs and attachments for her saloon. The suspect then paid for the air ticket.

How the deed was done

Vanguard gathered that the deceased arrived Lagos on July 21, 2012, and she was picked at the Murtala Mohammed Airport by Nwabufo and driven straight to a hotel called Casmilla on 6th Avenue, Festac town where Nwabufor had earlier made reservation with a fictitious name.

Inside the hotel, Nwabufo reportedly offered a bottle of Moet to Cynthia which she reportedly declined on the ground that she does not take alcohol. The suspect thereafter, asked her to take a Ribena drink from the fridge. But unknown to her, the three packets of Ribena had been drugged. He confessed that she took three; one in the afternoon, another in the evening and the third, the next morning.

Next day, she reportedly became tipsy. Even at that state, it was reliably gathered that Cynthia did not allow Nwabufo to sleep with her the previous night.

It was learnt that in the morning, the second suspect, Odera came in. At that point, Cynthia who apparently had started feeling the effect of the drugs asked who the visitor was. Rather than getting an answer, she was reportedly pinned down by Nwabufo, with her hands and legs tied. At that state, Nwabufo allegedly raped her twice. His cousin, Odera reportedly took over and used a sex vibrator on her.

I did not mean to kill her

But in his confessional statement, Nwabufo who was dressed in an ash-coloured suit, said his intention was never to kill her. He admitted however, that Cynthia was not his first victim, disclosing that all he did was to propose to them through blackberry and later invite them to the hotel, where he drugged and dispossessed them of cash and other valuables.

According to him: “It was a mistake, I never meant to kill her. I invited her from Abuja as my friend on July 21. I was trying to dislodge her by tying her hands and I hit her in the process. I tied her because I did not want her to know I was escaping from the hotel. We had a mutual agreement for her to come over. I met her from BB (blackberry) group chat. She came to buy some things for her boutique in Abuja. We had a disagreement. I did not rape her. It was the devil’s handwork.

I wanted to run because I knew I had committed a serious offence against her. I thought she had money on her that I can collect. So in the process, I tied her with cellotape to make her not to shout. I was not the only person, it was I and my cousin, Odera that did it. We tied her together and beat her together.

Yes, I invited her and in the process we felt like robbing her of all she had. The condom the police saw on me is what I used personally. I used it on her based on the intimacy gadget with her. She came with a vibrator intimacy gadget, so I inserted the condom on the intimacy gadget and later dropped it there. I did not make love to her. If they test the condom forensically, it will prove that I did not use it on her.

I drugged her with RAFINOL through Ribena drink. I bought three packets of Ribena and when she took it, she became weak. It was my cousin that drugged the drink, he used a syringe and administered ten tablets of it inside the drink.

This is the first time someone died in the process. I have done this say like, four times before now but none of the girls died. Whenever they take the drink, I will sleep with them and they will just lose memory of all that transpired. Usually, I use hotels in Festac. I have used Opera mini Hotel, Benny, Chelsea and Concilia. I feel bad because I did not bargain for this – to kill her in the first instance. It is just unfortunate and it was an accident,”he stated.

His alleged partner in the crime, Odera Ezekiel, said: “ I am also an Accounting student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The morning it happened, my brother called me to come to the hotel to help him bind the girl so that he can dispossess her of her belongings.

My mission at the hotel was to come and help him bind the girl. In the process of trying to bind the girl, she put up struggle and we assaulted her and in the process, she passed out. I did not hit her with any hard object and we didn’t have any weapon with us. My brother only told me he wanted to take her money. I have not done it before. He asked me to buy the drink for him”.

How they were arrested

Vanguardgathered that after the evil deed was done, Odera left the hotel first with the lady’s belongings. Moments later, his cousin Nwabufo then left. But at the reception, one of the receptionists asked if he was checking out but he said he was coming back. Two hours later, they reportedly called the hotel telling them to ”go into the room and remove the corpse of the bagger.” On getting to the room, Cynthia was said to have been discovered stone dead with her hands and legs tied to the back and with series of bite marks on her back which she apparently sustained during the struggle for dear life.

Police sources hinted that investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the girl proved a hard nut for them initially. However, the first trace that gave the suspects out was the number with which they contacted the hotel. Their task was made more difficult because the fleeing suspects threw away the sim card they used in calling the hotel. The detectives, however, went an extra mile and succeeded in using the same number to get all the suspects’ contacts and it was from there that the bubble burst.

The investigation took detectives to Cotonou and Nnewi where Odera who is in his final year was arrested in the school premises. His confessional statement, as gathered, led to the arrest of his cousin, Nwabufo. Over 40 persons, as gathered, were arrested in the course of the investigation. But gradually, most of them were released when operatives could not link them to the crime.

Another thing that helped the police in identifying the deceased was her Yellow Card, which her assailants reportedly forgot in the hotel room. But the telephone number of the card was discovered to be different from her original number. The Immigration was reportedly contacted in the course of the investigation which was described as a rigorous one.

The command’s boss, Mr Umar Manko who paraded the suspects before newsmen disclosed that the footage of the Close Circuit Television, CCTV, in the hotel also assisted the police in their investigation.

He said: “From the footage, we discovered that the two young men came into the hotel, went into the room and came out after a while, so we started from there”. Emphasizing the importance of CCTV in crime detection, the elated police boss said the police was working towards installing it around the state.

“We are talking to the Lagos State government and the Force Headquarters. We have been meeting with bankers but with this development, we do not have more option than to meet with hoteliers.

It has become necessary to mandate hoteliers to install CCTV in their hotels because security is a fight against crime and it is not a fight for the police alone but everyone. People who run such businesses must put in place facilities that will make those who come feel safe.”

He, therefore, advised young ladies to learn a lesson from this, saying, “youths have to be more careful. Social media network is good but some criminals are trying to make something criminal out of it”, adding that the suspects will be charged to court soon.”

Meanwhile, the pharmacist who reportedly sold the tranquilizer to the suspects is still in police custody. Although he was not paraded alongside the suspects whose faces the police insisted, should not be photographed, Vanguard gathered that he might be charged to court because he was not supposed to sell the drugs without prescription.

kokoye: To win at such levels, people have to be encouraged. And it does nto start when they are adults..you catch them young and then you train, motivate and reward them. Whatever happened to all the inter-house sports events and gymnastic displays that we used to have back in the days??

Now everybody wants to be a banker, oil dealer, entertainer or politician. The ones who actually want to do sports have to get out of the country and train elsewhere. The government and corporate organizations also do not care. Surprised? Nope.

And then we complain about poor performances.

so on point...in the realm of sports, ours is a nation heading nowhere. whatever happened to the hugely supported and contested inter-house sports, inter-school sports. it's not just a govt thing, the private comps don't give a damn. the Jamaicans are not better than us but they've kept this tradition going, hence their result. sadly education is also suffering the same thing. companies that will roll out millions to a singer in a matter of hours never support sports or education in the same manner. it will be hard for us to do anything great in these areas. a nation serious about standing on its own develop its young. jets competitions, top brand math quiz, hackathons, solar comps, writing comps, essays and poems,inter-house/school sports comps.

Kinikini:

A protester’s account of Occupy Lekki Protest

My husband and I were there at the protest.  We are survivors.
It was a peaceful protest (chanting and singing protest songs.)  The heavily armed police men harrased, arrested some of the crowd un-necessarily and did all they could to disrupt the protest.  The next thing we knew was tear gas shot into the crowd of peaceful protesters.  The next assault came from hired thugs, ACN members.  They came in cars and buses and started beating up the crowd. People were running helter-skelter (including females) and some had to jump over the fence built by LCC and injured themselves in the process. My husband and I were amongst the lucky few to have left the scene a bit later than most others, we had to quickly remove the protest T-shirts and caps when we were chased and almost beaten by the thugs.  We had the opportunity on our way home, in our car to recognise the same thugs who harassed us, in their vehicles leaving the scene and branching off at Jakande bus-stop.  They had ACN banners in these vehicles. In fact, they were making a show of their thuggery from the Maruwa round about (where we sighted them) till they branched off at Jakande roundabout. Obviously hired thugs/members of the ACN party.
Majority (if not all) of those who participated in this protest are professionals who want to voice their opinion about the tolls and had NOTHING to do with politics.  Tax-payers who want to express their voice, the same way protests are being done around the world. It is a shame that the people who were not there, could say that the crowd of responsible people chanting and singing protests songs, could be agents of other political parties.
Our protest
For those who are not aware, LCC did not build the road.
They only expanded to three lanes from two (2).  They also seemingly beautified the area with pavements, streetlights that do not work beyond Lekki Phase 1.  LCC (poor job done actually) expanded the existing road built by Jakande and constructed pedestrian flyovers that are of inferior quality (nothing compared to what exists along the Ikorodu Road) and wants to collect tolls for the next thirty years at exorbitant rates.  To add insult to all these, they decided that not only are they collecting the tolls at a single point but THREE (3) within a 25km stretch. INCREDIBLE!!!  Alas, they decided that they were going to collect tolls before finishing the entire road work that had been concessioned to them.
Fashola claim that they need funds to carry out projects in other parts of Lagos and the concession of this axis is necessary in order to satisfy other parts of Lagos.  So the masses in this area should pay for the entire state when they also pay the same taxes that other people pay.
• The government built the Bourdillon road (very high quality by Julius Berger and not the inexperienced HiTech being used by LCC for poor quality jobs) and decided not to toll. WHY
• They built Igando road (Julius Berger again and very good quality) and decided not to toll.  WHY again?
• They beautified Ikeja and reconstructed parts of the roads in that axis and decided not to toll.  WHY again and again
My demands
• Do I get a tax rebate for the tolls paid for going to work, coming back home, taking my children to school, going to the hospital and going to the market?
• Why do I have to incur more costs than my contemporary who lives on the mainland because I was silly enough to build my house along this axis? Because this now amounts to stupidity, if I have to pay tolls, to go home.
REALITY
1 Apart from this so-called expansion on the road, what other government presence is there on this axis.  And yet this axis must pay for other part of the State.
2 How do you toll a cosmopolitan road that thousands of people ply, several times in a day, for 30 years.  All in the name that you spend billions of naira to construct the road. And expect that the people will take this without a pinch of salt.
3 If you start tolling now before completing the road, then we are already paying for the construction of the remaining part of the road work and then we should not be asked to pay at any other toll plaza again.
4 The government does not have money to construct, but the Head of the State Board of Internal Revenue (a civil servant) is so rich as to lavishly celebrate his daughter’s wedding for a stunning amount (obviously taxpayers money).  And he is getting away with obvious corruption when people are slaving to pay taxes to the Government. That is obviously acceptable to the powers that be, in the state.
5 My children will only remember tolls for their youthful lives. The question is WHY??

God bless u, i only wish the big churches around these toll point will hold their services on the road tomorrow, waiting for the day the church will start taking the matters of these nation beyond our comfort zone of gathering and really doing what we ought to be doing. getting involved

Princek12:

Women do not know what they are moved by--all they know is that they are moved by something. One day it could be words; on another day, looks; and on some days, money. Sometimes they are moved by what they can't have. Women are the most confused out of the two sexes, and you will confuse yourself trying to find out what moves women. As a rule of thumb, and when in doubt, we all know that money moves women. That is probably as it simple as it gets.

Even if, for argument sake, looks do move women, there are several holistic factors that make you look the way you are to women. For instance, a guy may be walking on the side of the road or waiting on a BRT bus and look ugly to a woman. Mysteriously, that same guy, wearing the same outfit and looking exactly the same way, may look attractive to that same lady if that same guy was on stage performing in a concert or in a position of authority. Now, how do you explain that? Welcome to the enigma of how women think.

totally said it all,

Foreign Affairs / Re: African Union Demands 'immediate' Halt To Libya Attacks by fe32(m): 7:55pm On Mar 20, 2011
i think we are missing  d point here,

quadaffi started the shelling,

the whole world called for caution but this never stopped

his son came on air to promise war on protesters (the biggest disappointment in this whole saga, if there was going to be diplomacy, saif al islam is the key to it. siding with daddy obviously was the wrong move  which i'm sure he is regretting now)

the father called them , rats , said that he will cleanse benghazi house to house(cleanse = kill)

he brought in merceneries from chad to slaughter protesters on the streets of benghazi and don't forget the green square masacre when tripoli residents came out to join the protest

all the world and the ARAB league condemned his actions and ask him to stop but he wouldn't

army generals started defecting because of this brutality, publicly backing th revolution

but the libyan army isn't well armed because quadaffi never trusted his army. He had the sadam kind of revolutionary guard

quaddaffi kept giving threat speeches on the uprising and anyone who was watching or hearing any of these speeches will know that something is wrong with this guy

, the people had no options but to defend themselves against the black mercenaries who were killing anything that moved,

, the uprising started declaring cities after city as free libya but they knew quadaffi guards will return,

, with high level weapons on ground and in the air,

, libyans said they do not want foreign army on ground but that quaddaffi air power be removed to create a level playing ground, hence a no-fly zone

, obviously there is no going back, if they go back to accept quadaffi, the cleasing that was done in 2006 in libya will repeat itself

, quadaffi started this and he made the verdict, there will be no mercy

, the whole world started calling for UN intervention in the form of no fly zone,

, now we have one and we are calling them names, i'm sure the people dying in misurata , al zawiya, benghazi, zintan, tubruk,  ad jabiya don't think so

this is no aggression, this is a -not alright man- on rampage

the AU never said anything against this killing until this joke of a statement. even when quadaffi was causing a black hate on thousands of africans in libya; either working or waiting to cross the Mediterranean because of his tactics of using mercenaries from sub-sahara africa. nothing was said. now it will be very difficult for any black to live in this region because of this barbaric act. the were the issues we expected the AU to tackle

why is d AU not speaking up against the mass onslaught on revolutionaries armed only with their fist raised in the air,

tha AU is a joke and amma moussa a complete disgrace,

tripoli residents are phoning in on BBC saying that there have been allied bombardment but they are waiting for tripoli to be liberated and some are saying what
