This is what most Nigerians do not understand. Selling raw materials will not fetch you the required money but what is gotten from the finished product. Take the case of crude oil where PMS, diesel, AVK, bitumen etc are gotten. Imagine selling these and think of how much is being made. What of steel? Is it only the process of converting iron ore to steel? What of products gotten like cars, ships, planes etc. We need to think long term in this country.

If these three bridges are what he has to show, then I am highly disappointed.

As much as I do not condone what some idiots did in the Imo thread, we do not hate Imo state. Keep posting them pictures, maybe this is what will wake our sleeping leaders in Anambra state and SE Nigeria.

Something is really wrong with this nation. At times, you wonder if FG scholarship is really worth it. Religious pilgrims are sponsored in full and not half payment; same cannot be said of education.

Very correct and this rubbish started with Chino and Abagworo. One thing both fail to realise is this - the failure of any SE state affects all Igbo persons; it doesn't matter the state you are classified in. I have gone through the Enugu thread, calm and composed. They aren't always like this, even those from Ebonyi. I mean, I am one to celebrate any SE state that has positive news and frown upon those with negative news. These days, it is very difficult to criticise without someone tagging you from a certain state. This morning, I watched on ChannelsTV when it was said that the APC govs of SW states had a meeting of how to develop the region. I have been hoping and praying SE state have their meeting irrespective of political differences. I haven't seen a thread of Yoruba states comparing themselves; even those who do not like Fayose. They even created a thread and called all of Yoruba origin not state. E just be like say na we carry party for head pass. Look at the North back then. . .irrespective of political party, they see the 'North' first before any other thing.

Then again, when did we start all these political propagandas? I thought our works as Igbos speak for us? If Obiano isn't performing well, we should say it and not drag the people of the state into it. Propaganda will not get us anywhere and will further dent our image when the truth unfolds.

Last I checked, APGA ruled Imo state for about two years or so.

Enugu-All the roads from Obollo afor down to Oji river are terrible.
Taraba- No road at all from mutum biyu to wukkari, to takum- to zing to Jalingo etc etc
Bayelsa- The prefer water so no need to talk about roads.
Abia- If there is an award for worst road of the year, Aba would have been winning it year in, year out.
Even in Lagos, we have bad roads so this is not the only bad road in Nigeria neither is it the worst.

While I agree governance in Nigeria is bad, there really is no need to compare with other states. The SE states need to look inward and think of ways to develop the states. I mean, I hope to witness when I can live in Ebonyi and go to work in Onitsha everyday by a HSR or visit someone in Imo state and come back to Enugu 30 mins from leaving there.

Why do many of you guys like dragging Anambra state into stuff like this? You automatically assume those that hate him are from Anambra state? At times, as much as I do not support what Chino does, y'all are also guilty of what you accuse him of. Mbadinuju was criticized bitterly, same with the Uba brothers, not just by Anambra people alone, but also by other Igbos but do you see Anambra people accusing people of hating them? Even the same has been done to Peter Obi, done to T.A. Orji and Martins Elechi. Chime sullivan took more of the spotlight in SErn Nigeria for his good works but did you see Anambra people hating on him? What does it tell you? It tells you that most Igbos praise those with good records irrespective of states. It is Igbo first before the state. The way people are beginning to single out Anambra state as a scapegoat for anything bad in SE is a cause for worry.

I could recall when Berem (who BTW has washed her hands off Rochas sometime back) opened some threads to praise Rochas, but what happened when MCLXVIII visited? He put up pictures to show how false those 'truths' were. Same has been done to Willie Obiano and Peter Obi where people from Anambra state put up pictures to counter whatever falsehood that wants to be peddled here.

If the French revolution hadn't happened, the tenets of every man being free from birth would not have spread. The killings have happened in Ghana in recent times, which is as close to home as it gets.

Although, I hold the opinion that all politicians around the world have the same core ideology--Act differently from what they preach--the truth of the matter is that I'd take any European or North American (excluding Mexican) politician over a Nigerian politician any day of the week.

Our politicians are short-sighted greedy f'kers. They are already the elite, so if things get better for the average person, it'd also get better for them. After all, the populace would be taxed, and part of the taxes would foot their luxurious, humongous bills. Unfortunately, they don't see things the same way.

What kind of evil makes an individual inflate a project by more than 200%, skims off the extra money, give off the project to his cronies at a premium (or with exchange of envelopes), probably receive kickbacks, and then allow his cronies do a shabby job or nothing at all, while the cronies pocket a large part of the contract money?

It's the worst form of wickedness. Because, it's not like these projects if done well harms them. If these projects are completed well, it'd boost their performance rating amongst the populace, and push their political career to the limelight, which means more 'juicy positions' and access to more money for sharing contracts.

The projects done well will have positive effects on the local and national economy, which would lead to more revenue for the government through the taxes of thriving businesses.

But no, they believe subjecting the masses to suffering for 3 years, and opening the flood gates for 6 months prior to an election is better to keep the people subdued. It's the gravest form of inhumanity I can think of.

They'd rather gain in the short term for fancy possessions and exorbitant lifestyles than invest in a future that would be just as bright for them as it will be for the average Nigerian.

For as long as I know, the Nigerian populace have tried through complaints and protests to convince these people to see things differently. Unfortunately, they have been adamant. It's 65 years already. I don't know about you, but I think it is enough.

Why? Because, even the new breed of politicians (the current aides, special advisers and co between the age of 25 and 40) are not displaying different signs. It looks like we are under a perennial curse, and only drastic measures can resolve this belligerent situation.

Politics would forever be a dirty game, and the interests of a few would always supersede those of the hoi polloi. However, history has shown times without number that when the few become so insensitive and are an accessory to the calamity befalling the plebes, they would face the ultimate punishment. The king of France and his wife were beheaded in public. No one born of a woman can survive the targeted wrath of an aggrieved populace.

The elites in the Western and Eastern world know this and have several historical examples to learn from, which is why they provide conditions for an appreciable standard of life for their proletarians. The elites on this side of the planet are not used to it yet, so it's our civic responsibility to teach them the hard way. Until then, expect the 'suffering and smiling' state of affairs to continue, while they redirect our anger at each other (on both ethnic, religious, professional, gender levels).

If you think you have a better suggestion, put it forward. If you don't have. Stay quiet.

Matured minds with extensive intellect are pondering on solutions to real problems here, don't bring your shabby, crooked, damaged self to ruin the conversation. There is zero tolerance for people who want to make a fool of themselves in this thread. Nairaland is big enough for you to find somewhere else to deposit your rag-tagged, disgusting, hate-filled opinion. I wonder how long we can catch up to the western world in terms of STEM and use it to boost the economy. We really lost out in the numerous Engineering wars (space, steel, semi conductors etc). Nations are investing in nanotech and we are hoping to manufacture pencils by 2018. Saudi Arabia and UAE are gradually trying to get off oil dependency, cleaner energy is being utilized by some countries.

We really need to get our acts together.

Please, they should send an independent body to monitor the money. We have heard of cases of food and money for IDP camps disappear.

Thank you very much. I have seen people here celebrate Ebonyi state when news came concerning the limestone deposit and berate Elechi as the governor drawing the state backwards just like other SErn states berate Mbadinuju, Ngige, Theodore Orji and Okorocha. They have always associated Ebonyi state with being the agricultural hub of the SE. Any dent on any SErn states affect all just like we saw with the Enugu massacre, the 'deportation' of people from Lagos. I was really surprised with his utterances.
