Chief Imam of Lagbasa Central Mosque in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, Alhaji Akibu Adam, is still languishing in Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, seven days after he was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos for damaging the fence of an estate belonging to Archbishop Felix Job.

The Chief Imam is been detained following his inability to meet his bail conditions.

Adam, who was arraigned alongside four others, Alhaji Oseni Falana, Chief Shamsudeen Elegbeleye and Tunde Ashafa, was alleged to have conspired with others to destroy the fence of a 10-acre land located at Langbasa Estate, in Eti-Osa council.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Okon, alleged in the three-count charge leveled against the defendants, that the destroyed fence, valued at N3 million, belonged to Archbishop Job.

Part of the charge reads: “That you, Akibu Adam, Oseni Falana, Shamsudeen Elegbeleye, Tunde Ashafa and others at large, sometimes in 2012 at Alaba Estate Langbasa town, Eti-Osa Local Government Area, Lagos, did maliciously damage the fence of entire 10 acres of land valued at N3 million, property of Archbishop Job.”

The alleged offence committed by the defendants is punishable under sections 52, 337 and 409 of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2011.

When the charge was read to them, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail in the sum of N5 million by Magistrate H. O. Omisore.

The matter has been adjourned till July 2.

The Nigerian Army today said it has rescued several women, and children held hostage by Islamist militant sect, Boko Haram.

Brigadier Chris Olukolade stated that on May 22, 2013, during operations to rid the Bama area of terrorists, the Nigerian military raided Boko Haram camps where they rescued nine women and children being held hostage.

Following the Bama attack on May 7, 2013, Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau released that showed women and children that they had captured.

Brigadier Olukolade confirmed that the children and women rescued were the same people displayed by Boko Haram in the video.

KADUNA — The Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in Northern Nigeria had no clue on how to meet the leadership of the Boko Haram insurgents, the Chairman of the Committee and Minister of Special Duties, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, said yesterday.

Turaki pleaded for help in this regards from willing members of the public or anyone with links to the terrorists to initiate the dialogue process.

He spoke when he led members of his committee on a courtesy visit to Governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State at Government House, yesterday.

According to him: “We want anybody that may have link with some of these people to direct us to ease the process of dialogue in such a way that will ensure transparency and honesty which are the hall mark of this committee. We on our own have no clue on how to meet any of their leaders.

“The committee is in Kaduna State as part of its nationwide tour; particularly in the affected areas for the purpose of enhancing consultation.”

A 23 year old Lebanese man has been arrested by police in Lagos for kidnapping his 61 year old aunt, Alhaja Essa Dannawi. Mohammed Dannawi (pictured above) conspired with a former employee of his aunt, Obi Kwentua, (pictured above) to kidnap the woman on May 2nd at her home in Ebute Meta, Lagos.

Mohammed, who later confessed to the crime, told police during interrogation that he didn't kidnap his aunt because of money but to punish her because she offended him and his wife. He said:

“My aunty did something very bad to my wife and I and so I decided to punish her. I met with Obi (Kwentua) and told him that I wanted my aunty kidnapped. I gave him the spare key to her house and he in turn hired some boys to do the work. On the day of the operation, I left the house and five guys stormed the place and took my aunty away. The plan was not to demand money from her, it was just punishment.”

After the kidnapping, the kidnappers demanded N100m ransom from the woman's family but later agreed to collect N4m. It was during negotiations with the kidnappers that Mohammed confessed to being behind the kidnap and with his co-operation the police were able to arrest one of the suspects, Obi Kwentua when he came to collect the N4million ransom from relatives of the victim at Rita Lori Hotel in Surulere.

Essa Dannawi was later released while Mohammed and Kwentua were arrested.

Seven persons have been arrested and arraigned before a court by the police for allegedly stealing a goat belonging to Osun State Rauf Aregbesola at the Government House in Osogbo, the state capital.
The police prosecutor, Isiaka Ajadi, told the court that the accused persons were arraigned on two count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The accused persons, Alhaji Muhammed Moruf, Ayeni Abiodun, Agboola Fatai, Fayinka Gbenga, Olowoniyi Jeromu, Olorunfunmi Adeyemi and Babatunde Michael, pleaded not guilty to the allegation when the charge was read to them.
Counsel to the accused Barrister Nnnena Ngwu sought bail for them and Magistrate Habibat Basiru granted the request and adjourned the case to June 5 for hearing.

In order to forestall reprisal attacks from dissident groups, the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Seyi Ademola Onafowokan has appealed to the Ghanaian Inspector- general of Police to beef up security in the mission.
“The situation in Nigeria and Mali gives us a lot of concern. In West Africa, Ghana probably is our most prominent embassy and we could be a target. That is why I have come this morning to seek your support. We have policemen deployed to the embassy. We have them in the residence. But most time we give them off duty every Friday, sometimes when they get to their duty post in the morning they just disappear, especially the ones at the residence.
Onafowokan also told the Inspector General of Ghana Police, Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan yesterday, when he called on him at the police headquarters that; because of the offensive the Nigerian government had launched against Boko Haram and the rebels in Mali, any Nigerian mission could be a target for terrorists’ attacks.
Also, the envoy has called on the Ghanaian police to facilitate the release of the body of a Nigerian, Joseph Bernard, who was allegedly killed in an accident in 2011.
Earlier, the IGP had briefed the Nigerian envoy on the state of security and the Ghana Police Service and its efforts to curtail criminal activities in the country.

The police has arrested seven persons allegedly involved in the murder of Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chinwike Asadu, IGP Muhammed Abubakar disclosed on Wednesday in Enugu.

Arms used during the operation were also recovered.
