Car TalkRe: As A Car Owner The Greatest Embarrassment That Can Happen To You by FILEBE(m):
People will always profile you base on what you have . The media world isn't helping matters. All we sing and talk about is how to drive exotic cars or own a car. Unfortunately, that's Nigeria for you. Basic amenities has become a luxury. Some of us grew up yo consider gas cooker as luxury, tap water as luxury, living in storey buildings as luxury, same with owning a car and many more like that. You will agree with me that people who live in advance countries don't consider owning a car a big deal as we think.

See, everything depends on your state of mind. If you care about what people say then you are a slave to the people. Just be responsible for whatever actions you take. It also depends on your circle of friends . We have had friends sold there cars and we never even felt it or look down at them. One of the friend uses my car often and I don't even for once thought he has become poor or something. Him sef no care

Reminds me when my car overheated on the road due to a leaking radiator. It wouldn't start. It was along the main road. Area boys came and asked to collect money, they wouldn't let me push the car . Ended up negotiating 6k. Towing vehicle came almost immediately and fought that they most tow the vehicle as It is obstructing traffic . Those one sef na tout. We towed the vehicle, at every junctions , touts wey coming to collect money at almost all routes till I got to my mechanics place.

See ehn, Lagos and the power they have given to touts no be here .
Nairaland GeneralRe: Nigerians Are Good In Creating Problems And Later Blame The Government. by FILEBE(m): 11:44pm On Sep 11, 2023
See, this Nigeria we are in ehn? People are vicious . Lagos that i am in. i can count a million problems wrong with us.

Your car breaks down on the express and you will see Agberos coming to ask you for money. Towing van will come to exploit you.

lastma will exploit you. Imagin Latsma working with area boys to mislead you to take a route so that you will be arrested. Same with police.

local government people will come to lock your shop over local government fee or whatever. Rather than carry their duties professionally, they will act high and mighty shouting and talking carelessly to one.

Take your case to the police station, even you the reporter, innocent, accused must pay something. Imaging asking you for Izal money to see somoene that was locked up. They will talk to you anyhow especially the women and ladies.

Has anyone made a return at the famous ladipo market and collected back his money complete or in one piece? How can i return a part that isn't the same as what i wanted next day after purcahse and seller is telling me to pick another item that he cant refund me , that even if he will refund me, i will have to wait till month end. Month end came and pass. he hasnt refunded.

How have we normalized collecting money without rendering the service required? A business man will collect money before delivery then fail to deliver.

some people will knowingly sell a bad product to you as good and wouldn't accept a refund when you complain. computer village is notorious for this.

To be honest, we Nigerians like abusing the system, we like short cuts. we always like to play wise. Rather than join the queue, we will be looking for ways to cut the line and when we do, we will call ourselves wise and sharp. Everything in lagos is about being sharp. You wouldn't want to talk quietly so as not to be taken for a fool.

Market women will blame government for flood while they dump refuses in canals and gutters. You should check some roads in constructions and see what i am saying. Brewries to Badagry road under construction is already littered with refuse heaps and blocked drainages . Same with the Red line rail route, Ikorodu and all others. Should we be told how to dispose refuse properly?

That is why we are always suprised when one is honest with money in this part of the world. I mean, how many people will return a phone he found? how many will return money he found ? How many of us will do that? If we ask people why they stopped giving strangers a lift, most will say it is because they have had experiences of items being stolen from their cars when they do that.

Problems with Nigerians are plenty . we just like to trade blames. If we all behave and be true to ourselves, the government won't treat us the way they do. Afterall, we are the government. Aren't we? They say we are not corrupt until we get to that position of power. Pastors and imams aren't left out.

1001 issues with Nigeria are Nigerians.

CareerRe: My Friend's Mother Suspended Her From Her Company For Fighting Her Staff by FILEBE(m):
IconicR:
Nairalanders please is it fair for a mother to suspend her own daughter for fighting her staff?

My friend's mother owns a large company with lots of staff, so she recently completed her nysc program and waiting to be called up for a job so she had to put up at her mum's company as an intern and she was doing her job well to see things done.

Most of the staff do not like to take instructions from her and this has resulted to altercations with most of them, they keep reporting to her mum till a meeting was finally called.

The staff seems to have connived against her and without even bothering to hear her side of the story her mum said she knows what she can do and she won't allow her to cause problems in her company, so she immediately suspended her and ask her to leave and go home.

The staff were happy with this judgement and some made some snide remarks while she was leaving.

This thing has really troubled her recently and she's thinking maybe her mom doesn't like her as she stated that if it were her brother she won't give such judgement.

Was she wrong in trying to put things in order which resulted to most of those fights with the staff?

Was the mum right to have passed such kind of judgement before her staff ?

My friend's mom told her to go resume next week on the condition that she'll behave well but my friend told her mum she's not stepping foot in her company again.

Nairalanders please without being biased who is at fault here?
The best people to receive advice from are people that it hasn't happened to and people that it has happened to.

People that it hasn't happened to will try to imagine the situation and give their advice as a 3rd party. These advices are usually right and likely exaggerated.

The other type of advice, from people it has happened to. These advices will give you truthful experience of how they felt and what they could have done better.

You, who seek advice will them have to be patient enough to decide on which to follow.

Had similar experience, I Scolded the relative instead. It does hurt the relative but I knew what I was doing . I was going to teach a lesson on tolerance . Also, I expected the relative to report first to me before taking actions .

So, your friend's mother might not actually dislike her child, infact it could be the reverse. Your friend should also calm down and try yo understand her mother . We always reason with emotions which could be misleading most times

FamilyRe: Whose Name Should I Put On Papers Of The Car I Intend Buying For My Married Sis? by FILEBE(m): 4:31pm On Aug 25, 2023
Exodus15v11:
Since her husband is a Lawyer, then he should know that the name of the legal owner of the vehicle should be on the documents. That said, since he's a good man and has been "instrumental" (I'm assuming you mean he has helped you in some kinda way) to you and your family, why not involve him in the process of you surprising your sister with the car? You would still be the one presenting the car to her, as you're the one who bought it for her and the one surprising her with it, but you should take him along. Just tell him not to tell your sister beforehand but as a mature man, once you tell him it's a "surprise", he should know not to do that.

About him feeling some kind of way,
I'm assuming he has a car of his own, so there's no reason he should feel somwhow or envious about your sister having her own car. Even if he doesn't have his own, that's the more reason he should be happy about the car. Any grown and mature man/husband would have no problem with this at all.
Youngdanaval. This is the best advice. Since you said both of you are pals, involve him, the husband in all of this. You two could even arrange a surprise party when u want to launch it.

You can call the husband like this:

Bros. How far na? E get wetin I go wan yarn you o. Make we see , e go sweet .
I dey reason obtain a car for your wife to dey take comute work. As you know na, I like this my sister well well. Just wan appreciate all she has done . Na him I say make I tell you make we go fir arrange am as surprise for her.

He will agree and then you will continue by saying, " I will get the paperwork sorted too, If the husband na Guy man, it won't be an issue

Truly, I don't see a biggie in buying a car in your sister's name for her here but I also understand you about not creating a friction between the couple. Man and ego, especially when the husband doesn't have a car . People will take it differently .

We just dey destroy and demolish things undecided

Why not bring the culprits to book and convert the refinery to government use?
Since they refine fuel of nice and high quality octane value, why not convert it to government property?
Even if the standards fall short, why can't it be upgraded?
Government refineries not working

Illegal refineries are working. Can you see the irony? The irony Nigeria is presenting to the world?

Awesome thread 👍
I am a radio head ,grew up listening to the radio.
Rhythm Fm's JAJ "seven at seven " music show , Ray power Fm's presenters , Cool Fm's presenters like Dan Foster (God rest his soul),Manny ,...
Trust me.
A comment section on an online public forum is not enough to detail my radio experience in Nigeria.
I would basically need a novel to show the experience.
Radio would always be relevant.
I don't see social media replacing the Radio .
It will always be a relevant media.
They say Radio is the theater of the mind . I got to start listening more to the radio while I was in secondary . After we are done with the family radio, I will turn on my battery powered radio and listen all through the night. I was warned several times of the dame the earpiece could do to the ear if I sleep with it, I couldn't listen because of the love I had for radio
@naptu2. You didn't mention shows like Cruise control , Metro Fm, hosted by Frank Edoho afterwhich Kamala took over.. it starts airing by 7 to 9. The music people always request for is so so soothing . Even the show's theme song, Sunset Island by Earl Klugh is one I still listen to many times to ease off.
Metro fm also has Doris Okafor that anchors the show, Rock City. I will like to see what Doris looks likes frankly , she was lovely with what she does .

I think it is Metro Fm that has this program called Straight from the heart .I will so so love to have this show back on air. It is a show where heart touching stori3s are read and backed up with music that pertains to whatever keywords that were being read at that time. It airs at night .

Rhythm fm with Shola Thomson. That guy with the fluid smooth voice.

I then got to like Cool fm. Early 2000s they came with weekly Top 40 . Presenters like Manny, Daddy freeze, Gbemi Olateju,

Night radios are the best! After the days work. You come back home, relax and listen to the radio while it soothens your soul. Even the conversations and talk shows are just top notch. Midnight radios are even better.

Honestly, I am not feeling today's radio as I use to. I couldn't go a day without radio then. Now, I try to listen to my car radio and all I hear aren't interesting or worthy of my attention. Only time these our modern radio stations get interesting are during the Elections.
