OmoAkerele: @Ikenna351: I enjoyed your photo diary of your trip, reminds me of my own 505 V6 drive in 2007 from London to Lagos... I loved my 505. I see you’ve got a K&N air filter...nice oneI REMEMBER YOU from 2011. A further glance through your posting history confirmed it. At the time you posted those pics n all, I dont think we had the car talk section then. So have you done another Europe to lagos journey since then? You could open a thread and post pics. ![]() |

Daimler Ben: I just watched a Top Gear video where Jeremy (for those who know him) was comparing a new model (not sure which year) BMW diesel 535d with a petrol 545i. Though not as fast around the bends on the track (it had a smaller-sized engine &, besides, who does slalom times on the road?), the diesel variant was more economical & even quieter than its petrol counterpart. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fU4f_NwAfUs Good one! And if you notice, the most liked comment there was one asking why Clarkson didn't compare the 535d to a petrol 530i, both being 6 cylinder engines. From its performance as seen in that video, it's very likely that the 535d will trounce the petrol 530i in almost every respect. And I pretty sure that diesel engine, of course like it's petrol counterparts, would have been improved upon now. |
jking001: BLIND MAN even with the dates in the article of how power generation degenerated u can still say the rubbish then am worried for 9jaYou must be referring to this right? By 1999, Anyaeji stated that electric power production fell to 1,975MW down from about 6,000MW in 1990, as a result of neglect of the sector.Of course i saw it. Did you also see this: the total installed capacity in 1972 was 523.6 megawatts. By 1990, this had increased to 6,000MWLook at the rate of increase within that period. Calculate how many years the millitary & civillians spent in power within that 18 year gap. Now, Compare the rate of improvement (if you like use percentage, or actual number of MW) between 1999 and now, a span of 14 years of pure civillian rule. We were here when 16 billion dollars disappeared into power sector "reforms" with not much to show. Was it under civilian or military regime? Did anyone go to jail? Where is the money? So who is blind and saying rubbish now? |
akintun: D military actually destroyed dis country. It would take years of civilian rule or a very good military rule( which I doubt) to undo wat d military left us with. Deep rooted corruption in d society, and high interest on gov borrowings are two of d things dat would take long years to solve.OK, With the exception of human rights, Show me one area where the millitary regime "destroyed" that civillian rule, particularly OBJ & GEJ's regimes havn't wreaked further havoc? Show me one corruption record case under the millitary that less "important" people in civillian regimes havn't surpassed. Is it 12 billion dollars oil windfall under IBB you want to mention? Wanna compare that with the subsidy fraud & vanishing of our foreign reserves during the last election year? Is it Abacha's loot you want to mention? By the time we combine OBJ, Ibori, GEJ, Alams together, I''m sure Abacha go gree say Oga na master. - Now, do you honestly want to tell me that corruption was this rampant even under the evil genius with no one paying the price? - Dem any Bode George well under the Millitary to be prancing about like a peacock after his jail term? & be openly feted and celebrated by the CinC? - Dem born any Tinubu well under millitary to steal the amount of money he stole (h& is still stealing)from Lagos? - Dem born any sitting Head of State & his Chief of General Staff to open private universities WHILE THEY WERE STILL IN OFFICE? Even IBB, na him wife open secondary school, of which i think (not sure tho) she had that going before IBB took over power. - Go and ask those who went to universities and polytechnics in the 60s and 70s (when we were mostly under millitary rule), even up to early 80s and ask them to compare their time with the present. - Dem born any C-in-C wife to dey misbehave for a MilAd state like Dame is doing in Rivers? Make i stop here. examples are many. Analyse history properly and more carefully and you will get my point which I restate here again: NIGERIA HAS FARED BETTER UNDER MILLITARY RULE THAN CIVILLIAN RULE. |
Has anyone heard this man speak? I doubt any Nigerian leader has a voice and diction as sweet as this Tafawa Balewa. Wish there was a video of this speech. Talk about voice wey dey evoke admiration & inspire confidence.lol. Saw a video of him talking sometime ago & I was positively shocked. Not to mention the contents of the speech. 100 GEJs & his speechwriters combined can't come up with something that comes close. |
Beyond their disregard for human rights and the Rule of law, the military era actually contributed more to infastructural development than their civilian counterparts .
I've said it before that if you look at Nigeria from 1960, we have actually seen much more development and overall better standard of living under MILLITARY rule compared to civillian regimes. Practically all our major infrastructure today were built by the Millitary, the civillians came in, mismanaged (still mismanaging) the ones they met, built very few, then sold (still selling) to their cronies. thats in addition to the "everybody come and eat" we have under civillian regimes. Under the millitary, na only CinC, some MilAds & few other people dey chop money. From the refineries, power generation, national monuments, even interstate roads, the guys from the barracks have far surpassed their civillian counterparts. While they were building, "democratic" civillians are busy passing budget after budget for maintenance, yet nothing show. Someone will now say it is the "system which cannot change overnight" that is responsible for the collapse of Nigerian Airways, Nitel, NEPA (PHCN), even National Stadium Surulere & National Arts Theatre iganmu e.t.c. as if it was not Nigerians who established these things and had them up and running for quite some time. 2015, make una wise up abeg. Nigeria doesnt deserve leaders who give excuses for their incompetence or lack of performance, leaders who even feel that our major problem is exagerrated (how the heck will he pay serious attention to it when "perception is different from reality"?!!!) |
CFCfan: What the shutdown means is that all non-essential US Government workers would be furloughed i.e. the workers would not be paid for some time. National Parks and museums will be closed. This shutdown will affect around 850,000 federal civil servants.Ok, I had to google up what 'furlough' means after I entered this thread. That doesnt sound nice. However, will essential services mannned by federal workers still be functional? Though i know the US is not like Nigeria where the government owns everything. |
Hahahaha! If it were Nigeria, if Senate or House of reps like, make dem no pass budget for 2 years, GEJ go still see money buy private jet for him mistress * OK, Seriously, for how long is this expected to go on? CFCfan & other enlightened ones , can you tell us what possible consequences might result from this "shutdown"? |
Why is that it is usually when GEJ is especially unpopular at the moment that "bokoharam" suddenly strikes again....in the NORTH....killing innocent defenceless people, BOTH MUSLIMS AND CHRISTIANS (in some cases, like this one, likely even more muslims). It usually appears to be a diversion of sorts. Initially, when bokoharam started their madness, people screamed that how can you say you are against western education & yet you are uploading youtube videos, sending emails, attcking churches, mosques, motorparks & NOT SCHOOLS. Apparently, "bokoharam" listened & then we now have this massacre, the 2nd or is it 3rd or even 4th one in the predominantly muslim North. If these killings were done in the name of islam/northerners, me thinks we should have been having more attacks in the south, especially the zone the president comes from. It makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE that northerners/muslims are behind these killings targeted towards ensuring that many states in the north will enter "state of emergency" mode thereby preventing millions of voters there from exercising their rights in 2015. Why is it the north that is under seige if it is indeed the north sponsoring all these crimes. It is getting increasingly obvious that the ONLY WAY GEJ can win in 2015 is if somehow, millions of northerners are prevented from voting, and also if attacks such as these can be linked to "power hungry" Northerners, thereby directing anger towards any northern candidate and directing sympathy towards him. The South South oil installations were the first serious recent bombing casualties. Henry Okah has implicated GEJ in October 1 bomb blast, which was the first major civillian targeted bombing in recent times. Millions of dollars worth of crude oil is stolen everyday. the quantity is so large that it is IMPOSSIBLE for Ogas at the top not to know the major players behind this grand larceny. Country earns billions in oil revenue every month, yet, technically we are going broke. Where is the money? Very soon, I forsee we shall be getting some surprises on who the real sponsors of these dastardly acts are. & THEY WILL PAY! LET OUR TRIBAL AND RELIGIOUS BIGOTRY NOT MAKE US FORGET THAT THE REAL VICTIMS OF BOKOHARAM ARE THE POOR NORTHERNERS WHO LIVE IN FEAR OF BOKOHARAM AND IN FEAR OF JTF! It is of course very convenient to label Islam as the cause or motive behind these attacks but objective minds especially those who really KNOW islam will agree that Islam does not & will never preach/encourage this nonsense. FYI: The fact that these boko haram struck in the month of ramadan, killing even muslims is enough tto show that truly these guys do not represent islam but are mercenaries hired by some soon-to-be-known (inshaAllah) political demons to cause CHAOS. Simples. |
Gleaming black beast! Congrats on your purchase Siena. |
Rolly83: All those supporting the Governor i have a question? Why was'nt d letters given to the teachers at their local govts or put online for the teachers to printout considering their large number must they go to tthe stadium to collect posting letters!!!!Abeg dis one na heavy politics!!!So does that in any way justify their harrassment by the police? How una dey even reason? |
So, jmaine, are you telling us that Mbu's action was in order? Have you no sense or objectivity or at least some pity for the poor teachers who were teargassed? Was Amaechi there? Do 13,000 people deserve to be treated like criminals just because the CP is acting on orders from Abuja to make Amaechi's life uncomfortable? That PDP/Aso rock money you are collecting to spread propaganda, promote falsehood & encourage dastardly acts such as this will surely get you in deep trouble one day. It's not a curse, consider it a guarantee, an assurance, a certainty. I've said it before, all these things are just helping to make Amaechi more popular. I for one never knew the state govt just employed 13,000 teachers! I pray those teachers are bold enough to file a suit against the CP. This should not be taken lightly at all. Even though we know his master in Aso rock will likely save him, at least let him feel some heat. Men wielding power as if they won't leave it or it won't leave them one day. O Lord, may our enemies continue to be powerless against us and keep making us stronger for every action they take to pull us down. Amen! |
Katsumoto: 1. The crisis rocking PDP is symptomatic of a leadership issue. GEJ faces opposition from folks in and out of his partyThe simple truth of the matter is that Boko haram striking in the NORTH was(is) to GEJ's benefit. He knew (knows) that. The people around him knew that. It afforded him & his handlers the opportunity to play the victim & also loot billions in the name of fighting the insurgency. And that is why efforts were very lackadaisical till it began to become obvious that it was deliberate. & that is why I will never rule it out that Boko haram could have been operating with STATE FUNDS. I mean, if these guys really intentionally wanted to make life bad for jonathan, why strike in the NORTH & kill more voters & allow states fall into the 'State of Emergency' situation when the South South, the President's region was lying there with no special form of protection whatsoever! Can someone tell we what has been done with the 1 trillion naira (over 6 BILLION US dollars) defence budget Surely, a sector that took 25 percent of an oil producing nation's budget shouls be able to experience some massive overhaul that will be obvious to even the most staunch critics. Of course, the paid posters here will have us believe that the money was spent fighting boko haram as if Nigeria went to buy the entire troop of US marines to do the job.And then, we havnt forgotten Azazi's statement & his sack that almost immediately followed it, & ultimately his death in a curious plane crash. We havn't forgotten the foot dragging on the prosecution of the BH "sponsors". I only hope nigerians will wise up. i strongly forsee that before & by 2015, we shall witness lots of startling revelations especially about "Boko haram" & their sponsors "who are in my government & everywhere". |
Goodluck Jonathan can run for election in 2015 because he is qualified to do so. Infact, anyone who says he shouldn't run is very likely saying so for selfish reasons & should be ignored, ATIKU & BARAJE especially.. True opposition should never insist he shouldn't run. Who are they? na dem write constitution? The only downside of him running for election is the billions of naira that will be used for bribes and settlements. From 'elders' like Fasheun all the way to some hungry paid posters in this forum, they will share in that sick money. Then again, we have that insulting period when an underachiever, an oil theft abetter, a corrupt ministers' retainer, an expert in making un-leader like statements, a corrupt human with a deceptively meek face BUT with an obvious lack of true sensitivity for the truly poor nigerians (including those in his region who put their hopes foolishly on "our son" back in 2011), below average stellar leadership qualities will be touted as the best person to rule Nigeria. It's really insulting....& sad. But then, above all, i look forward to GEJ running in 2015 so that at least his thugs like Asari Dokubo & co (may God spare their lives too) will be there to see that GEJ WILL LOSE that election to a MUCH BETTER candidate & despite all their 'contingency plans' to forment trouble in the event of his loss, NOTHING WILL HAPPEN. ............& if care is not taken, they'll all be spending Christmas 2015 in detention or better still, prison. |
kingoflag: Youre a mor.on of the first order! He can't defend it. I just want him to come and tell us how it is an "emotional outburst". Maybe perhaps you lied against Jonathan or something. Defenders of one of the most corrupt and incompetent presidents in Nigeria's history. OBJ is one agbaya that will never get a shred of respect from me. he went to shop for VP in the South South to an ailing president and he chose GEJ, when people like Donald Duke, Pat Utomi (that one sef hand no clean but he'll have been 50 times more effective than this oil thief in Aso rock) e.t.c. were there. People who at least showed a lot more promise that they could move the country forward. |
Sincere 9gerian: Another emotional outburst. I said internal terrorism. Hope you know the difference? Ewu! Good night!Don't Good night. Bia n éba !!! Pada si ibi bayi. Come back here and tell us why this is an 'emotional outburst'? Did he tell any lie? Come here and defend your clueless principal. Come and defend the financial, moral & lack of performance terrorism he is dishing out to Nigerians. Are you people just daft? Dont we see other world leaders? Havn't you observed other countries that hitherto used to be on the same level with Nigeria? Do their leaders behave so stupi.dly and say silly statements frequently like its compulsory? I dare even the Ghanian president to say something like he doesn't want to name corrupt elements for fear that he will be attacked!!! Nonsense. Let 2015 come, God willing, if i have the time, I will spend my efforts and energies to make sure you and your fellow paid agents are unsuccessful in selling this mistake to Nigerians again. HE WILL GO!!!!......unless he sits up...which is unlikely. All because of the money you r paid, & una go dey turn truth on its head dey deceive people say GEJ is d best thing since sliced bread when in fact you KNOW he is not. God dey look una o! |
obinna 222: I agree with you. My Golf 6 Tdi uses 30 litres of diesel from Lagos to PHC (420 miles)Imagine! That's about 54 MPG! A 2013 TOYOTA Prius HYBRID will at best, match that figure...in CITY driving, not likely highway. And of course, the driving pleasure is incomparable. |
papi365: IS DAT A THREAT? LOL. UR MATES ARE OUT THERE THINKING OF POSSIBLE WAYS ON OW TO IMPROVE THEIR LIVES BUT U RE HIER MAKING NASTY THREAT TO ME,U MUST BE A FOOL 4 REALOn this thread alone, people are learning how to improve their lives via questions and reading other people's views. But the first thing you did here was to criticize the educative topic which brings me to wonder what exactly you are doing to improve your life! He who knows not and knows not he knows not: he is a fool - shun him. He who knows not and knows he knows not: he is simple - teach him. He who knows and knows not he knows: he is asleep - wake him. He who knows and knows he knows: he is wise - follow him. http://thinkexist.com/quotation/he_who_knows_not_and_knows_not_he_knows_not-he_is/149147.html Going by the bolded, you sir, need not look further than the reflection you see in your mirror if you are looking for a fool. And for that reason, including the fact that this exchange is coming in the way of this thread's intent, i will now shun you and hope that you seek an appointment with a brain surgeon soonest, before your situation becomes irredeemable. Goodluck. |
papi365: ACHSO! U RE NOT DIFF 4RM UR MSG. TIME WILL MAKE U GROW AND THINK LIKE A MAN AND NOT AS A BOI. SINCE U HAV BN MAKING STATEMENTS,HOW AS DAT IMPROVE UR LIFE? ITbomb: The easiest way to go in Nigeria is to buy whatever your mechanic can fix .The easiest way to go in Nigeria is to save up all your hard earned money, get a Toyota Camry so pricey there's no money for insurance & and have it stolen in a month. So yes, Go for Toyota! Tell what you said to the MANY people out there who have fallen victim of the scenario above. Just a few hours ago, my bro was telling me about a guy who drives a Volvo S40 now when his Toyota Camry thin light got stolen. Oh, and what's more? Dude says he spends less on fuelling his S40 than he did with his Camry...which is not surprising even if that Camry is a 4 cylinder and especially if the S40 is an European non turbo engined spec. Yes Toyotas do have a strong reputation for reliability but you guys sometimes talk as if Toyotas don't give problems or are the most fuel efficient cars in the world...which is WRONG. |
50calibre: Ok!With some fairly recent and even not so recent petrol engined cars, if you allow the petrol finish in your car while driving, you might run into similiar or even worse problems. |
