smile4kenn: @findout

She didn't take SAT or TOEFL as the school doesn't require it. Will that be a problem?
Hmmm.... Not taking either of those exams is usually a problem for undergraduate visa applicants, irrespective of whether the school requires it or not, but then some people still get lucky. Let's hope she'll be too. Let's hear what other advice the house has though.

Ms Nas: Thanks!!
But Bros, thermal wear na winch undecided Atimes, e go work, atimes the thing go just leave you at the mercy of the cold! grin
Lol. Pele. Presently, the temp here in Bloomington IN for the last few days has been between 29F to 18F (-2 to -8 deg centigrade) and I'm already seeing signs that my thermal wear may not be fully effective if the weather gets colder as it will likely be in December, but for now, e dey work.lol. When that time comes, maybe na 2 sets I go wear grin

smile4kenn: My sister do have interview at the Lagos embassy on the 17th of next month. The problem here is that she is 18 but left highschool 3 years ago when she was 15. Do you guys think they will ask her what she has being doing since she left high school 3 years ago. The basic truth is that she was just too little and young to enter the university.
"I had a fast education and when I graduated from high school earlier than expected, my parents felt I was too young to get into the university. So I took up vocational courses (she could mention sewing/catering) and pre-college classes, and also devoted my time to prepare adequately for the SAT and TOEFL".

I'm assuming she wrote one or both exams above. The only problem I forsee is that she could be asked to provide proof of the vocational classes, to which I'll suggest she reply that she doesn't have it there. She must be very confident while answering the questions.

@Pablo, Congratulations on your visa. Smooth sailing interview.

@MsNas, Happy belated birthday!!!

@Lisadem, very good tips there. Though I'm sure some men may also find that thermal wear useful, especially if one is not wearing a long jacket. The cold sabi penetrate jeans attack the thigh beneath. Thermal wear will still provide an extra layer of protection.

@Imperiouxx, I no envy you o bros. That snow is THICK!

This is very unfortunate news. Please sign and share this petition to get a better explanation from ETS and to have them lift the suspension ASAP:

God bless you bro. Signed.

This news is very painful. To think that I've been on my friends' necks to take the GRE soonest. Thankfully, one of them took her GRE just last week & did very well. I'm 90 percent sure I wouldn't have taken the GRE in 2012 if I had to go to Ghana to take it & consequently won't be where I am today. US admission hopefuls, let's hope this is reversed soonest. However, if you can, please go to Ghana to take the exam if you r sure of doing very well & plan to study here in the US, particularly potential grad students. It's a sacrifice that can be worth it in some cases.

To the morons doing TOEFL runs and the condemned dullards asking for it, na una fault o. Fo.olish people.

Thanks for your contribution. I think I'm probably going to let the car alone despite the 500k price. I too feel something might be wrong with the car, because really, why does a tokunbo needs to be repainted at all?[/quote]Good call. I don't know Redcliff from anywhere except seeing his posts on Nl, but this car he posted below is worth checking out if you really like the passat.

redcliff: That's definitely not a 2002 car. Its 98 or 99. My advice.

- just merely being lied to about the year, do not buy.
Yeah, this is the 1.8litre non-turbo engine from Europe. Sweet to drive, great fuel economy. Nice ride there.

PoliticsRe: National Confab: Fashola Calls For Clear Agenda by FindOut(m): 11:32pm On Nov 02, 2013
Of course, no harm in trying. However, as to the panel representatives being chosen by the people without the influence of the presidency/PDP particularly in certain states, let's wait and see. Implementation is even still far actually, proper convening of the conference is what we should even beam our searchight on.

As to kano having more LGs or parasite states, we need to go back to fashols's main point whis is: THOSE ARE NOT THE MAJOR ISSUES BEGGING FOR ATTENTION NOW. Besides, exactly what direction is the conference taking? What's the focal point? What are the issues at stake? We are waiting to know. I assume some of that will be the committee's job.

I wont be surprised if we see an expedited (probably too expedited not to have been pre-planned) approach to the whole thing. Not to sound negative, but for now in Nigeria, as far as government is concerned, the only things that move fast are those things with plenty mago mago, chop chop & selfish interests inside.
Car TalkRe: A Diesel Engine 2002 Volkswagen Passat? Is it adivsable to buy? by FindOut(m): 11:05pm On Nov 02, 2013
That engine doesn't look clean and well taken care of for a tokunbo car...to me. Even the frame of the car sef kinda looks rugged. And this generation of passats usually still maintain their structure despite their years. Could be the shocks in that front wheel though. Something's not looking right there.

This car is definitely NOT a 2002. Somewhere between 1997-2000. You can crosscheck this yourself by looking for the sticker on the body of the car when you open the driver side door.....if the spray painters havn't sprayed over it..

I love the manual gear B5 passat, but not liking this particular one at all.

...........& maybe it's d picture quality sha.

& yes, i would buy a Tdi passat.....looking forward to having the Tdi experience in a later model passat or jetta. But for this generation of passat, my heart has been stolen by the manual gear V6 & manual gear 1.8 naturally aspirated (from Europe), both of which I've never owned, but driven.
PoliticsRe: National Confab: Fashola Calls For Clear Agenda by FindOut(m): 10:37pm On Nov 02, 2013
Governor Fashola further said that some of the issues of dissatisfaction in Nigeria lie in areas where there is no need to talk.

He listed the areas of concern to include unemployment, education, inefficient transportation system, irregular power supply, hunger and national security.

All these, he pointed out, could be resolved with “concrete economic plans of action, a clear roadmap for addressing all stakeholders, parents, teachers and students in that sector, urgent infrastructural renewal plan for the country and a vigorous and impassioned implementation of the power sector reform agenda.
End of story.

Simple truth is this Government CANNOT be trusted to handle a truly all-inclusive and impartial National Conference. Ordinary recommendations of committees they set up themselves, they havn't implemented. National Assembly requests and resolutions, they are struggling to comply with. Yearnings of Nigerians, they don't give a damn about.

Trusting such leadership to properly convene and implement the resolutions of a NATIONAL CONFERENCE is wayy too ambitious almost to the point of absurdity.

Those who are of the opinion that this proposed "conference" is to achieve some devious objective for 2015 should not be ignored.

They stressed Justice Uwais, they stressed Nuhu Ribadu, now it's Senator Okurounmu's turn.

Like someone said earlier, Jonathan could not handle just 8 local goverments with a population of just over 1 million (not up to a few LGs in Lagos) even as the state gets a about 10 billion naira on average every month!

& yet some very senseless and wicked people told other nonentities that he was the right man to handle 774 local govts containing 150 million people.

Were you expecting him to perform wonders? Since 2010, i have been waiting for someone, anyone, to show me what Goodluck Jonathan did in Bayelsa state as Governor with the huge funds he was controlling.

Elders of the region like Owoye Azazi who should have spoken out for their peope and demanded that their oil money be used to construct amenities like hospitals, schools, ROADS etc did not do so. They felt they couldnt be affected. We all know how that turned out....even if the matter get k-leg inside.

The Nigerdelta millitants claiming to be fighting for the people are millionaires today. The "elderstates hegoats" sorry, elderstatesmen like Kiagbodo Clark are busy marrying more wives in their old age and getting richer. The youth are still there jobless and helpless. the women and children are still plying canoes, managing to till their hydrocarbon ravaged farmlands, suffering the effects of pollution with no one to tell them sorry. the men are busy relying on their small monthly handouts from the LG chairmen, in return for singing their praises. Families' major hope of conquering poverty is for their children to join millitants or bunkering things. Currently, the serious undergraduates who chose to go to school instead and study engineering so they can work in Shell and Chevron are sitting at home because of ASUU strike, even as they watch dropout uneducated loud mouthed morons opening universities in other countries, driving posh cars and living in beautiful houses. And their "son" is President.

This country is a timebomb ticking. But it will NEVER divide, because the average SS man on the streeet (not the paid hacks or diaspora bigots here) will never agree to leave their fate in the hands of people like GEJ, Boyloaf, Uduaghan & co..

GEJ, Alams, Sylva, Dickson, and all the other morons carrying out and supporting injustice against the common people, you'll surely get served sooner than you might expect.

babyosisi: Thanks for your input
Nobody said the medical field was a piece of cake
I didn't read that from any posters here.

This thread was started in response to the shait I read on another thread
Immigrants are coming into the USA daily and succeeding
That is the whole essence of the thread
Ok. Actually, that was the impression I kinda got from these posts below. Good you've clarified sha. The beauty of the thread anyway is that any serious intending immigrant will read all posts here and then make informed decisions on his/her own.

babyosisi: I already wrote that the medical field is the easiest for immigrants to be employed. That is the gospel truth.
Doesn't mean other fields are closed.Every skill is an advantage.
Like I told the other person, make sure u come with an international drivers license since u can use it legally for 6 months
You eventually have to take and pass the driver's test to get the state of Texas drivers license but being able to drive is one big huddle people should sort out before migrating overseas.
babyosisi: That is one area in high demand
Americans are not meeting up with that demand that was why agencies were recruiting from Africa, the Caribbean and the Philippines
The healthcare field is a vast market and the best paid comparatively so it is a good place for an immigrant to go into and make a decent living.
Don't take my word for it,check it out yourself.
@2nd bolded in 1st post, Very true.
TravelRe: Ask Me Any Questions About America, straight Talk from a Nigerian in America by FindOut(m): 9:46pm On Oct 13, 2013
Been following this thread almost since the beginning. i think its time I dropped a comment, particularly on this "Medical field" issue.

Babyosisi, I salute your intentions in creating this thread. i also had issues with Ozoemeka's thread, like you, I felt he was not giving a fair evaluation of conditions in the US, even though he wasn't really presenting any fabrications per se, but doing a great deal of exaggeration. However, I think, even as you try to encourage people, & in the process doing a better job than Ozoemeka in educating people, even the smallest amount of sugarcoating should be avoided.

Ogugua raised some very good points I think any intending immigrant should note carefully. Jobs in the medical field or any other field for that matter are not as available or easy to come by as they were 8 years ago. Anyone in that field can confirm everything she said. This may very well likely positively change in the next few years but for now, it is what it is. Lots of people are in the US already looking for those medical jobs and they havn't gotten them yet. You may get in today and get a medical job, but do not think you'll get it on a platter or that you'll find it "easy". Also, Do not throw away your dreams of becoming an Engineer or an Accountant or a Journalist just because it is "easier to get jobs" in the medical field. You may regret it later. Ask those who have had to retrace their steps later in life, or worse still, those who are still living frustrated lives doing what they have no passion for, are not good at, and still not earning what they thought they would.

Anything is easy if you are prepared to surmount the difficulties around it. And the easiest thing can be difficult for anyone who isn't prepared. That said, even for the very well prepared, studying any course in the MEDICAL FIELD is NOT a piece of cake. For many, it is just the passion that keeps them going. Money is fast becoming a less important motivating factor for nurses especially, because again, after school, jobs are not guaranteed. Medical school is super expensive even for Americans and very very stressful. USMLE no be moin moin. Nursing profession no be beans.

I would also advise any intending immigrant with the intention to "hustle" to seriously think am well. "Hustling" now cant be compared to how it was in the 80s, 90s and even early 2000s. Best bet for anyone is to have educational plans in mind. If you have your bachelors, and especially if you r still in your 20s, study hard for & take the GRE & TOEFL in Nigeria, apply to good schools for your masters, you could be lucky enough to get a Scholarship or Graduate/Teaching Assistantship which could pay most or all of your tuition....which in turn could make it 10 times less difficult for you to obtain your visa. Before you conclude masters, while making job plans, consider a PhD. PhD may not necessarily confine you to Academia, you may still get good jobs in Industry. And then, Academia is not a bad thing too if you like teaching. Also, several PhD programs will pay for your tuition & living expenses...if you take your time to research very well and apply to as many good schools as possible, and if you r lucky enough to get in.

Yorubas would say "The market doesn't have one entrance". Different options are out there. Be prepared to face challenges along the way, and be prepared to deal with them. Above all, money is very important, but it's not everything. Wealth and satisfaction do not always go together.

You said he "joked". Yeah, we know some of these things dey start from play play but if he hasn't made any advances, i wonder why you are bothered enough to want to do anything about it....which is why I initially assumed you were also having some feelings for him. Any sensible boyfriend should know that there'll always be other guys wanting to take his place and that it is almost pointless trying to keep you away from all of them coz ultimately, YOU are the one who will determine if anything will happen or not. Since you r not sure what your boyfriend will "expect", maybe you should ask him & then do as 'His Boyfrienship' pleases.

Long story short, as far as I can see, the best answer to your case is "do whatever YOU like" smiley
