booqee: dafuq?! U don't know me real life and i don't know u real life. I really don't care wat u think bout me. Its my achievement and purpose in the real world dat matters. I'm a political scientist and i know wat i meant when i said the interview is boring. I read every single word in the interview..There are many questions i expected to be asked but weren't there. Not dat jarus isn't doing a great job. Of course he is, i'm just blunt like dat, and i criticise things as i see them.OK. Just note that the online world is rapidly integrating even further into the real world. Its obvious. I hope you understand. Cheers. |
booqee: the interview is boring joorOf course the interview was not meant for everyone to appreciate, understand and derive lessons from. That a fellow nairalander like you was able to actually interview him is of course lost on some people. There are those youth (even ladies) who do not spend all their time on nairaland at the romance section but actually see nairaland as a means to develop themselves further intellectually, educationally, career-wise & hence wil derive lessons from interviews such as this. A few posts above this one is a poster (also a lady & very likely younger than poster Booqee) who was able to draw out a key lesson which anybody should appreciate and digest. Poster Booqee, e be like say na NYSC you dey do abi? very soon your eye go open . The nairalander who was able to secure this interview with Nuhu Ribadu (as he has done with quite a few other national/international topshots) was a corper like you less than 7 years ago. Better read plenty interviews like this one, derive lessons and inspiration from them as those are part of the tools you will need to face the world awaiting you after service. Six years from now, you too can be sitting at the same table with the likes of Oby Ezekwesili, Funke Opeke etc & be engaging them in meaningful conversation. Now read again & try to make sense out of it. If you still find it boring, then please visit this link https://www.nairaland.com/romance . I'm sure you wont be bored at all there. Gumorin. |
@find out: what about Tinibu? arguebly tinibu is the most corrupt politician after obasonjo. why do you choose to choose your trials? if u r against corruption, then the likes of tinibu, fashola, buhari and babangida will be on your top list.
Tinubu is among the first 5 on my list of most corrupt public officers ever. His case is especially interesting when one considers the fact that his corruption still continues despite leaving office 6 years ago. But then Fashola is nowhere near the top or even middle of my list and I know why he's not there....even though if I had a one-on-one session with Fashola, I'll probably tell him many things he wouldn't like to hear. "Guilty by Association" doesnt always apply in all situations. I have searched far and wide, and i am yet to see the slightest shred of credible evidence linking General Muhammadu Buhari Rtd. with corruption. If you find, please share. Babangida is in the Hall of Fame for corruption in Nigeria, even his children and grandchildren will know/come to know that their Father/Grandfather is a legend. |
He was OBJ's attack dog. Nobody was sacred of him but the power behind him which was OBJ.
Fallacy. Wetin "consign" the yahoo boy wey dey cybercafe with baba Obj? Why didnt Ibori approach OBJ with his 15 million dollar bribe then? It appears you have some axe to grind with this man but hey, we were all alive then, and we havnt forgotten so no need to give us a new interpretation of events.
His level of insolence was so high that he stepped on some big toes in his primary appointment office i.e. the Nigerian Police.
Many times, being principled and disciplined often comes across as insolence and pride. Try to distinguish between these things. That said, for the 3rd time, i'll tell you again that Ribadu was not perfect.
Ribadu during OBJ was no different from al Mustapha during Abacha. A highly insubordinate officer who OBJ broke all protocols with.
Really? So why is Ribadu not in court today battling one lawsuit after another? Say something else abeg. Even if you wish to compare them, at least one was killing people while the other was making life very difficult for corrupt elements. I'm yet to see anyone Ribadu vigorously prosecuted and was later revealed to have clean hands.
You Nigerians are highly vindictive people who expect leadership to operate on a fiat level and suppress those you feel are better than you. I say better off because , if you were in position you would have acted far worse.
Its funny but I should be saying the bolded to you but I wont, as I do not fancy that line of reasoning when criticising or applauding public servants especially. But yes, we Nigerians are angry. very angry. We are angry at the si.lly leaders who promise tobring change but end up getting there to continue the status quo. Some other people are also angry, unreasonably angry i'd say coz their own anger is directed at people of other tribes and religions & political parties when in fact our anger should be collectively directed to the crooks who buy 3 presidential jets at the same time to add to an existing 7, people who have not even done anything for their own geopolitical zone talkless of other sectors, people who are clearly unfit for the positions they occupy.
This is why you crave the likes of Buhari and Ribadu because you need a village square prosecutor to condemn your perceived enemy and witch to be executed by fire burning.
The enemy is not perceived, it is real. & yes we need them properly dealt with to serve as a deterrent to other upcoming theives and looters. We need discipline in this country, and it so happens that we need it from the top. Enough of kid gloves approach bro. We need a revolution, not one involving protests and bloodshed, but a revolution in leadership...though the rate at which Nigeria is going, a bit of the former might be needed (but better avoided) to bring about the latter. Time is going, the world around us is moving fast...& leaving Nigeria further behind. Good evening. |
To you he is a saint now. But this same Ribadu came out publicly to declare Tinibu as one of the most corrupt politicians in Nigeria. Today, Tinibu foots the bill and as such he (ribadu) is all good. Finally, my sanity is intact it is you level of judgement and conclusion that made you arrive at a messiah status for a man whose career path started with the most corrupt institution in the world even for Nigerian standards - The Nigerian Police.
OK, I edited my post and added more after you quoted it but even in what you quoted, I made it clear that Ribadu is not perfect, but he presided over an agency that was very effective during his time. Dude, people were actually scared of this man, from yahoo boys in the cyber cafe to state Governors controling billions of naira! He did not do everythn right but dude, forget, he was a SUCCESS. And that is why when he lost the elections in 2011 to Goodluck Jonathan (that GEJ won 2011 elections is something our children will struggle to understand in future when they read about the profiles of all 3 candidates), he had a ready job waiting for him. I can bet you anywhwere that if not now, but definitely after GEJ leaves office, Nuhu Ribadu will command more respect than Mr President in local and international cirles...in circles where achievement in public office and not promises, is used as the yardstick for giving props to people. |
Ribadau owns choice properties in Dubai with money he acquired during his reign as the head of the EFCC. The level of daylight naked hypocrisy on display in this useless country is unbelievable. The same ribadau that did OBJ's dirty witch hunting. You guys either fell on your heads when you were babies or you are genetically daft! Keep recycling rubbish and when the dung heap mounts don't complain about the stench. Niggerians!
It would be quite ideal and infact, necessary to question your sanity if you CANNOT provide proof of the so called Dubai properties, or any evidence that Ribadu is cleary living above his means. I am yet to see any public office holder in Nigeria who will return/report a whooping 15million dollars bribe money! 15million dollars CASH! It is just so sad that in Nigeria, it is those people who have served the country selflessy and still live quite modestly clearly enough for all to see, that we villify; while we celebrate the thieves in our midst. These thieves even enjoy the support of those who do not benefit from their loot! It's absurd. Ribadu, like Buhari, Jakande, Fashola, Lamido, Akunyili, e.t.c. is not a perfect person, but there is no doubt that if we have leaders in the mould of these people mentioned above, we can begin to have some hope for Nigeria as the pace of development will undoubtedly be a lot quicker than we are witnessing now. Instead we sit here hailing bonafide crooks like Ibori, Atiku, Tinubu, OBJ and Goodluck Jonathan. Rubbish. Let us use the EFCC as an example to gauge our progress as a nation, now can anyone, even Fareeda Waziri's children, tell me that the EFCC has not lost its steam & effectiveness since Ribadu left the place? Ribadu showed that with the right people, institutions CAN be effective even in this Nigeria! But now, we make up all sorts of silly excuses for those at the helm of affairs managing key sectors attributing their incompetence and lack of performance to the "system which cannot change overnight". |
maclatunji: Politics. Whilst I am not in the business of cursing or name-calling, I pray that Allah blesses the innocent people of Egypt and give those who have lost loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss.E ku ilaakaye jare. |
thirty: Today In BBC news, Saudi King Abdullah blamed Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt as terrorist.May Allah forgive you. You better be careful with your utterances and leave the Saudi king for Allah to judge and determine if he is fit for Aljannah or jahanam. Shey you don know where you go enter? |
samnoah: This is my situation. I plan applying for a phd program but not quite sure whether starting now towards fall 2014 will still be visible. This is because I understand most of the schools have deadline for fall semester sometimes in December and early january. I need to take toefl again cos the ones I used previously is now over the two years stipulated and I want to retake GRE to upscale my score(previously scored 302 and 3.0). Will I be rushing things if I start applying now or should I just settle for fall 2015 since most of the phd programs only admit for fall semester? I need you guys seasoned advise on this please.Syahboy has given you good advice, however since you already have a masters here in Nigeria, I'd say you go straight for the PhD (note that if you do decide to still venture for masters, when you get to the embassy, make sure you conveniently forget to mention that you have a masters degree from Nigeria. I think you still have enough time to make Fall 2014 PhD. Lemme try and draw up a sort of timeline for you which you may tweak to your convenience: This is August. - From now till end of August & maybe even part of September: Search through schools and identify the schools & PhD programs you are interested in. Get their requirements. - September & October: Prepare very well for GRE & write in October ending. Good thing you've written it before so at least you know you have to register about a month ahead before you write it. - November & December: Apply to schools and forward all documents, GRE scores will meet them there from ETS, also mail professors in your intending department letting them know you can be of help in their research (which you must have googled out and have a fairly good idea of what its about). Then sit back, pray, do follow-ups on professors letting them know you've sent in your application blablabla..etc. Then wait. You can fit TOEFL in anywhere until January I guess. As far as I & many schools are concerned when it comes to Nigerian students who can speak and write good English, its not that important. However you may wish to write it too. But remember GRE is the koko. Note that many schools' deadline for submitting an application(especially the "early deadline" / "deadine for those who wish to be considered for financial aid" is sometimes different and earlier than the deadline for the receipt of application materials. So it is not always the best thing to wait until ALL your application supporting materials are ready before you apply and submit your application. Keep that in mind. Wish you all the best. |
lisadem: Thanks Find-out. Glad God answered my fervent prayers during ramadan. Hope you are doing great and have settled in the US? #winkYeah I'm still settling down but I'm doing great. Good thing you've gotten a ticket now. Those things wont start going down til month end. michole21: Please how do I re-print my appointment confirmation page....Urgent answer plzz....Same way you printed it the first time! |
imperiouxx: Maybe the sponsoring agency have special arrangement with flight companies but you should still press hard. Orientation is nothing. Course registration usually extend till next month after classes start.Very very true. |
foohard: Hello house,Are ALL classes fully booked? Were you assigned a Graduate Advisor? I suggest you contact him/her NOW. Can't you book the flight yourself and then forward the receipt to sponsor agency for a refund? The orientation programs are really important o! @Flynbird, what's the status of your own flight ish? Hope you've paid the extra and have your ticket with you now? @Lisadem, Congratulations bro. Wish you all the best in the US. All the prayers wey you go don fire during ramadan were answered. No forget Islam when you enter US o.lol @Ibadan Festac MsNas, me sef just dey know say you be muslim o.....sister in islam E be like say you don enter US abi? Kaabo ![]() @Syahboy, Great scores! Oya abeg go for PhD straight. NYSC is sometimes an issue at the embassy, but I suspect they'll be too distracted with your fully-funded PhD admission at a really good school *by God's grace* to remember NYSC.lol. & frankly I do not think you need TOEFL at all! I had just a bit above your score in verbal & using that as a reason plus the fact that english has been the language of instruction all through my educational career (like all of us), I requested for a waiver which was granted. But I guess you've paid for it already so you might as well just go ahead and ace it. @Oga Imperiouxxxx, e ku ipalemo semester. May God continue to bless you, OjaP, Webstra, BigF & everyone else contributing to this thread. School hasnt even started yet...just orientation & I'm no longer on NL as much as i used to but each time i come to this thread, I see you guys still contributing & helping others. That's really great. |
vedaxcool: Bigots like you are beneath my dignity to waste any bandwidth upon, preferring to talking injustice of others instead of making your poor manners less pleasurable, i am not defending anyone just highlighting your ignorance and pettiness! clearly those who oppose her have made their opinion known on why they oppose which i have listed previously, the other words you highlighted clearly are the words and opinion of the media but like I said bigots like you are purely a waste of time reasoning with; ![]() |
DerideGull: ^^^^ There are silly and unfounded postulations certain cretins tended to spread on this forum. However when a person tries to highlight such craps, the usual suspects in crime with the original poster will haul insults at the person. You must be a very unhappy person in life o. Infact i doubt you have any friends coz even the most accomodating of individuals will find it pretty hard to associate with people who reason the way you do. Get a life man. and STOP HATING. We all know where you r coming from though..."the events of 1966" . smh for you man. You really do deserve to be pitied. Please lets ignore this guy and hope that sooner or later he'll eventually realise he needs help and will actually seek for it. |
Stegomiah: Even with more than 10,000 votes in the June election, putting her 14th out of 163 candidates and winning her a council seat, the 27-year-old engineer and website designer had her political career cut short because she was deemed too attractive to take up the post.I hope I'm not the only one who saw the part in bold. So much for those who say that women in islamic countries do not get any education and are confined to their homes. @topic, i think this is political and not necessarily religious as the reasons given especially about her campaign office are not cogent enough to me o. MOST women in the middle east are beautiful and they do hold political positions. She isn't the first....lets hope the president isn't just bein mischievious. |
flynbird: I couldn't book directly to emirates again because my brother couldn't get it done on saturday again. So that booking expired.... I checked on wakanow.com on monday and saw a cheaper emirates flight and then I booked and went to make the payments the same day which was monday. I called them immediately I left the bank and also emailed them. I've called severally again but all they keep saying is that they will issue me an e-ticket. Today is thursday and yet no email from them yet. Its giving me sleepless nightsyou'll have to ''sit down on their neck''! If you were in Lagos, i'd have advised you visit their office. But since u r in ib, then keep bombarding them with phone calls. I had a similiar issue with Travelstart, booked & paid at their office on a saturday afternoon yet no e-ticket *coz that particular flight fare was no longer available*. I didnt allow them rest & they eventually came up with another itinerary for me on Tuesday evening like 2 days before i travelled after i firmly rejected an almost 100k cheaper Egypt air option (Egypt na wahala zone right now...stop overs there might not be a good idea) tho i paid an extra 49k sha. So keep bombarding them with phone calls....don't freak out tho. @BigFrancis!!!!!, Congratulations man! Happy for you. As much as it was fairly certain you were going to get it, a lot of things could still have gone wrong & prevented that but everything went well so we really have God to thank for that. The man will likely still have approved your visa jor coz I know you were prepared for his questions.....he's the one who gave me mine. I wish you all the best in the US bro. @Omgstar, congratulations to you as well bro. Have a great time in the US. @Kofsy, nice GRE scores you have there o, you crossed the 300 mark. Just be sure to come up with a nicely worded SOP, that coupled with ur GPA should secure you admissions (maybe even with a GA if you apply for one) in pretty decent schools. Sholay, same for you as well. Congrats man. @Amefrica, you & Kofsy ( & every other serious student here as well) will definitely get your visas soon too by God's grace. I was here when you both came to this thread & since then, you both have taken advice, done the standardized tests. Now, thanks to the visa experiences, you should now have an idea of what to expect from the VOs when admission clicks and I-20 arrives. Wish you guys all the best ![]() |
FLYFIRE: HahahaWe know you people na. We were not wicked when we were screaming that Yarádua's wife, Tanimu Yakubu & co should hand over to GEJ, we were not wicked when the nNational Assembly was put under pressure, but now we are wicked. By the way, Where is Dora Akunyili who was the first minister to speak up at the time? Of course, GEJ don leave am for one side sorround himself with equaly clueless lot like himself. Look here Mr Wicked, even if you put a 5 year old at the helm, he wil surely have a thing or two to point at. What we are saying is that the pace of the amall progress is too slowww and for each struggling one step forward, we are going several steps backwards in many areas. Anyway, I wish you luck in 2015. Babalegba: it is people like you that give the illiterate population the excuse to be breeding indiscriminately thereby causing social problems and security challenges. Tell me , has Nigeria got as much land mass as Libya . UK with one third the population of. Nigeria has five times as much GDP. Overpopulation makes people behave like animals which is why Nigeria is indistinguishable from a zoo at the moment. Citizens being set on fire, pensions being stolen, a criminal police force, people desperate to leave the country etcetera. Nigeria is a povert stricken country due to overpopulation. The quality of a population is what matters not the quantity.Oga, Nigeria's population is not evenly distributed and properly managed, that's my point bro. Take care |
So you are saying that the poor should not have children. Are they not humans,so if you become president you will adopt a system whereby the poor should not give birth. Instead of you to say that we need good governance and let us all improve Nigeria to greater heights, you are blaming the poor. So,what happen to China before this century? Are they over over-populated. STOP BLAMING THE POOR,THEY ARE HUMAN LIKE YOU.
Actually, if you ask me, with our resources and land area, I think Nigeria is underpopulated! |
FLYFIRE: Look around & point just one alternative from the lot....buhari? tinubu? liar? okorocha?...Please give me a break. May be you or your people are one of those who can not steal oil any more.....But seriously breda, in 2015 you & your mates will be so flogged, what happened to buhari at the last polls will be child`s play. Please give kudos to those that deserve it...GEJ does...Dont be blinded by WICKEDNESSDude, you are saying this crap because you don't know what is happening in Nigeria. Maybe you should visit certain areas even in Lagos and see how people are living. talk to your family members and hear from them. Make enquiries as to exactly how much has entered the Government's coffers since 2011 and relate it to the developments on ground. Forget it, even Buhari's most staunch critics like the Woe Soyinkas and co will honestly tell you that Nigeria would have been a lot better than this if that man had been given the mandate in 2007 or 2011. Lets forget Buhari for now. I dislike Tinubu with passion coz I know he is the most corrupt human being ever to have ruled any state in the southwest but frankly speaking bro, even tho i wil never ever vote for him should he decide to contest elections in 2015, the truth is that he wil still have done better than GEJ. Just about anybody whose name is being bandied about presently will do better than GEJ and you know why? it is because these men have had some measure of achievement in their respective zones/states before coming out for the presidency, very much unlike GEJ with ZERO record of achievements as CEO of one of the richest and least populated states in the country. he left that position with his people still groaning in poverty and underdevelopment and swe still voted him in as president! What a country!!!! |
For real, anyone who refuses to use his or her brain and decides to campaign for GEJ in 2015 is an ENEMY of Nigeria. This man MUST go!!! This is 2013, time is going. When exactly is Nigeria going to catch up with hitherto contemporaries on the development scale like India and South Africa? The gap is fast widening & people are suffering while the polithiefcians at the top are getting fatter! This has to stop. Countries like Ghana there have reached a stage where someone with Jonathan's pedigree dare not open his mouth and says he want to contest for the presidency as he can be rest assured that only his immediate family members wil vote for him. its a shame that this man won elections in NIGERIA in 2011 and is also been touted by some to win in 2015. It's absurd really. After Jonathan won in 2011, I was willing to give him a little benefit of doubt that OK o, this man with ZERO record of achievements may actually miraculously surprise us in the presidency but the moment I saw his ministerial list, I lost hope. This man is just INCOMPETENT and is INCAPABLE of leading Nigeria. he coud not do wonders in the smallest and richest state in Nigeria yet we voted him in! Now he's borrowing money that our children probably won't finish paying and yet we are seeing nothing done with the borrowed money. Oh, he has 10 or is it 13 aircraft in his personal fleet....forgot about that.lol. Anyway, Obasanjo deliberately chose him and Yaradua so the old Abeokuta he-goat must be smiling now that yes, Nigerians who said he was incompetent and did not deserve a 3rd term will now know what incompetence and non-performance truly means. I'm sure if Abati and the ministers undergo the simplest lie detector test, he'll echo this widely and even globally acclaimed fact about Jonathan's incompetence. 2015, THIS MAN MUST GO! |
imperiouxx: Normal screening of course. Just like you left Airport in Nigeria.Exactly. Though I hear the CBP guys at JFK & IAH sometimes grill naija visitors thoroughly. |
Mystiqme: Welcome FInd out! So you made it? I have not been keeping up with the other thread. Did you eventually get a PhD at Indina-Bloomington?....Cool!Loool. Thanks bro. i didnt get a PhD o, got a masters but with a 1 year grad assistantship and part tuition waiver. Will be asking some serious questions as to whether my funding can be extended or else na switching to another school things o! My GRE and transcripts dey my hand! |
imperiouxx: Na you no no say that na roommate, not necessarily that your roommate stays the same room with you...... This is US mehn. Wardrobe is closet.Lol! I get the definition from their point of view sha. |
Ok, after F1 visa enquiries thread, I have 'graduated' to this thread Arrived Bloomington IN Friday evening/night (time na night but weather look like evening.lol)....currently staying in temporary housing (very comfortable, have to move out soon tho), trying to settle down generally sha. Got a fone (friends in the US here screamed "stay away from contract o" and I have obeyed...lol. Got a prepaid Tmobile. Love the weather, met only one Nigerian exchange student so far, ASIANS EVERYWHERE!...some r quite friendly tho, Campus is BIIIIG, searching for off campus residence....scary prices for the ones close enuf...hoping to get a good deal & (a) good 'roommate'(s) soon sha (oyinbo people be olodo...dem dey call housemate roommate undecided grin ). No stress at all at point of entry Detroit. With the short length of time I was interrogated, i could as well have been one of the many French & EU nationals on my flight from Paris also visiting the US. Lol. But, special reminder here: Make sure you arrive at the US BEFORE or BY the date on your I-20. I wish everyone all the best o, again, follow the thread and and listen to the advice of the Ogas here. Do your standardized tests and prepare very well for your interview. Above all, even after the visa, don't come here without enuf cash, and even when you do come with enough cash, watch your expenses very well (like i'm really doing now.lol) and aside from tuition fees etc, sort things like rent out first before buying other stuff. *posted this in the F1 visa thread* So who knows any CORRECT person schooling in Indiana University Bloomington? By 'correct', i mean a lot of adjectives revolving around the word "HONEST" ![]() |

eduson002: House. My I-20 reads resumption of 15th Aug but orientation is 22th and 23th August(orientation mail sent to me) and I want to travel on the 19th Aug.Hope I won't ve problem @ POE.Also my sch did nt send me any immunization requirements, should I go ahead and take immunizations?Get yourself into the US on or before 15th! Anything after that, without a letter from your school, is risking deportation bro. |
flynbird: Can someone please give me a list of sites to book cheap flights to NY(JFK) ? Why on earth would I fly economy in 2weeks time for $4,000 to JFK. Ridiculous!!!..@bolded, HAAAA!!!! Anyway, not to worry. na to borrow cash from person wey get ATM refund am on Monday. Try Travelstart.com.ng for flights. It's just like wakanow but I think you'll find cheaper flights there than on wakanow (my experience). But be careful, make sure you call to confirm that the booking is still valid before you make payment. Ticket prices are indeed craaaaazyyyy now o! |
dammie12: Where in Indiana is your school? If you can get a flight to Chicago ORD, that will be good because its another point of entry just like JFK. Chicago to Indiana depending on the school shouldnt be more than 3hrs drive. (Not greyhound anyway). With greyhound, 5 hours at most.Hmm...good idea. School is in Bloomington which i gather is not too far from Illinois. Will check flights going there now. Thanks bro |
Has anyone booked with travelstart.com.ng ? Plus, has anyone flown on Egypt Air or Royal jordanian? |
Congrats...Findout!
Thanks ![]() Guys, please i need something clarified. The date on my I-20 for me to report to school is 11th August. My school is in Indiana. Now, can I get into JFK (point of entry in this case) on the 10th and arrive Indiana on the 11th or 12th? (Greyhound abi Ekene dili chukwu things) In essence, what i'm trying to ask is, is that date strictly important for the point of entry alone? Coz i hear if I get to the point of entry later than that date, I may be denied or seriously delayed entry. Please advise. Thanks. Note that whole intl students orientation week does start on the 12th, grad students orientation starts on the 14th. |
