State Of Emergency: APC Leaders Angry With Buhari

LEADERS of the yet to be registered opposition alliance party, All Progressives Congress (APC) have expressed anger at the statements credited to former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, which indicated that the declaration of a state of emergency in three states of the North was anti-North.

Buhari had been quoted as saying in a programme on a Kaduna-based FM station that the declaration of a state of emergency in the three states of the North was anti-North and that he does not support President Goodluck Jonathan’s tactics on dealing with insurgency.

He also claimed that the government was being high-handed on the insurgents operating in parts of Northern Nigeria, adding that when militancy happened in the South South, the Federal Government invited the perpetrators and granted them amnesty.

But leaders of the mega party, who have dissected Buhari’s statements were said to have expressed surprise at the claims by the former Head of state.

One of the leaders said that such a statement would only further alienate members of the emerging mega party, the APC from Buhari.

“Already, many people are saying that Buhari should not be used as the candidate of the party in the 2015 election, such a statement is capable of portraying him (Buhari) as someone who does not believe in the unity of Nigeria and it could negatively impact on the party.

“What we expect from Buhari are statements that would portray him as a statesman, not as a sectional leader. He as a former Head of State should be talking for Nigeria and not for a part thereof. Anything to the contrary will open him to undue scrutiny,” the source said.

Leaders of the APC were said to have criticized Buhari’s comments as off the mark.

A source said that the development has reinforced the resolve of the APC to field a younger presidential candidate in 2015 adding that when the time comes, Buhari would be told to hands off the presidential race.

Jaku: Am a long time follower of various threads on Nairaland for 6yrs now. But i think i should make a clear awareness about the fraudulent act of Wakanow.com before other innocent people fall victim. Have used their services 3times within a short period of 2months traveling out of Nigeria. But the scam unfolded when i missed my flight,in request to change date i was told the ticket can not be USED. I contacted SAA and i was told the ticket was not purchased with the company name "Wakanow" rather it was bought by another individual.Knowing clearly i paid directly into Wakanow's account i called but each time i make a complain, the call is dropped. I tried email but they won't reply.

Note: Underneath the ticket, the term & condition states " Ticket None Refundable - Date change /no show fee applies".

Fraudulent strategy:-

They purchase ticket as individual with hidden conditions unknown to you.
They promise you good customer service, but its nothing to write about

Lesson learned:-

NEVER deal with wakanow.com if they don't bleed you today, they will bleed you tomorrow out of your hard earned money.
@ Jaku,
So sorry about your experience. However, I have used WAKANOW 3 times and I have this to say.
1. First Time: I book a ticket to Dubai (7th Dec ’12 – 7th Jan ’13) I called them and they confirmed my price, I did an online bank transfer into their UBA account from my own UBA UDirect. I called them to inform them of my payment. So annoying they told me the price has increased with some thousands (like 3k) I still found the price fine by me as I cross check also on the Airline website directly. My guy travelled and he needs to do a change of date on his ticket in Dubai, he makes some payment and adjusted his returning date. (Airline – ETHIOPIAN Airline)
2. I made the second booking on WAKANOW for a friend also to the UK on British Airways (26th Feb. – March 4th 2013). I did go to British airways website and I updated the guy’s details. He travelled and came back successfully. I could have as well done my direct booking on the British Airway website but is a condition that you must bring the Card you use to book the ticket along with you while boarding. So the difference is not much so I use Wakanow. (Airline – British Airline)
3. Last 3 weeks I did another booking on Wakanow to Dubai and the journey was fine no problem. (Airline – Qatar Airline) 15th April – 21st April 2013.
All this are my personal submission. The e-ticket sent to me has this address:
WAKANOW LIMITED DATE 14FEBRUARY13
PLOT 8 ELEGUSHI BEACH ROAD BOOKING REF 3FHKZA
IKATE ROUNDABOUT
LEKKI PENINSULA

EML:

These posts represent my personal experience with Wakanow and not subject to any query; but I could provide all emails, ticket to support all this if in doubt. So be guided accordingly!
However, you are advised to act best in your own interest.

Please I will appreciate from your wealth of experiences; places to visit, cost saving means of transportation within EU and other valuable details that can make the trip good and on cost saving mode.

Politics › Nigeria Criminals Were Heartless Enough To Rob A Dying Man!!! by Firefire(op): 12:21pm On May 05, 2013
I wonder what Nigeria Criminals are turning into.... while a man was dying, no one could rescue but rather steal from him.

Prophets told me my husband had been kidnapped when he was actually lying in hospital -Wife

Toyin Lawal was in distress as she had not seen her husband for almost a week. She had no idea why anybody would want to kidnap her husband. She said she had no millions she could pay as ransom to secure the release of Sulaimon, her 40-year-old husband, if indeed he was kidnapped as many seers she consulted told her.

Hoping and fasting, Toyin resorted to fervent prayers, hoping for the safe release of her husband.

“I held on to my phone every second, hoping to get a call from my husband’s kidnappers,” she told Saturday PUNCH.

Events leading to Sulaimon’s intriguing disappearance began on Monday, April 22, 2013, when he left his 19, Olusesan Ogunro, Egbeda, Lagos State residence for his shop at Lawal Bus Stop, Governor Road, Ikotun, Lagos.

Sulaimon is a photographer who works for the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

But between Egbeda and Ikotun, he went missing, an incident that threw his family into confusion and anguish.

Toyin told Saturday PUNCH, “He normally comes back from the shop around 10pm. He left for the shop about 6pm that day. When it was 10.30pm and I still had not seen my husband, I called his phone to know what had delayed him.

“His line did not go through. My call indicated that it was switched off. When it was 11pm, I tried it again and continued trying it until 12am. That was when I knew something was terribly wrong.

“Nobody slept in the house that night. By morning, when we still had not heard anything from my husband, we contacted his office and reported at the Ikotun Police Division.”

Toyin said she visited some churches and all the prophets she consulted insisted that her husband was kidnapped, promising her that he would soon be released.

She said she thought her husband had become the latest victim of the kidnap-for-ransom business in Lagos.

She believed the kidnap prophecy so much that she never thought that her husband could be in another kind of danger. She therefore, did not expect to find her husband in coma in the social ward of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja a week later.

An official of the ministry where Sulaimon works had informed our correspondent about the disappearance of Sulaimon, calling it a kidnap at the time.

So, Sulaimon’s family waited for contact to be made by his supposed kidnappers. But it turned out the fate of the photographer was much worse than expected. He was a victim of a hit and run-driver.

They had no idea he was barely clinging to life on a hospital bed.

Toyin told Saturday PUNCH that she later learnt that Sulaimon was nearly killed by a hit-and-run driver who left him for dead at the intersection of Ikotun and Iyana Ipaja Road.

He was barely alive. While he lay on the side of the road gasping for breath, some ‘Good Samaritans’ stole his phones and all other valuables in his pocket.

She said, “The hospital staff told us that he was brought in by officials of the state ambulance service who, lucky for him, were passing shortly after he was hit and quickly took him in their ambulance.

“They told us they found nothing on him. If they had found a mobile phone on him, they would have been able to contact his family. But the money and phones he had on him had all been stolen by some people who saw him lying on the ground after the accident.

“Sulaimon could have died because some criminals were heartless enough to rob a dying man.”

One can only imagine the momentary relief and alarm that overwhelmed Toyin when she learnt that her husband was in the hospital.

The photographer sustained severe injuries. Parts of his body were bandaged when our correspondent visited him at the hospital on during the week.

A nurse at the ward, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Saturday PUNCH that he only started talking.

“He was barely alive when they brought him in. Thank God for the LASAMBUS people who brought him here. He was only able to say his name after some days,” she said.

Toyin said she was able to find out her husband was at the hospital because a doctor who knew him was able to recognise Sualimon at the ward.

She said, “One of the doctors who attended to him recognised him as someone he knew but was not initially sure because his injuries had made him unrecognisable.

“But the doctor confirmed he was truly the one after he was able to mutter that his name was Sulaimon. Then he informed someone who knew me.”

Our correspondent visited the area where the accident supposedly occurred but nobody in the vicinity could recall witnessing it.

The unavailability of closed circuit television cameras in many parts of Lagos makes it easy for hit-and-run drivers to escape justice.

At the moment, Toyin is just happy that her husband will survive after all. Sulaimon is recuperating, and only he would be able to say with accuracy what happened that day.

Politics › DIRTY HISTORY Of The Judge That Awarded 45 Years For Stealing Aregbesola Phone by Firefire(op): 11:55am On May 05, 2013
I was checking to see if we can recommend all fraud cases in Nigeria to Justice Jide Falola of High Court 5, Osogbo.
I came accross this petition dated back to 2008. What a histroy...

NEMESIS appears to have started trailing the nomination of a former controversial Magistrate, Mr. Jide Falola, now a Chief Registrar of Osun State Customary Court of Appeal, as one of Osun State High Court judges, as a coalition of civil societies under the umbrella of Osun State Civil Societies Coalition Against Corruption And Rights Violation (OSCARV) has finally petitioned the National Judicial Council (NJC) on the need to stall his appointment.
The group in a petition addressed to the Chairman of the NJC, Justice Idris Kutigi and dated December 5, stated that Falola lacks the integrity of a person to be appointed to such sensitive and exalted position, adding that his records revealed that he was a biased and partisan magistrate.
The petition showed that the former magistrate had, on various occasions, hurriedly convicted accused persons, despite legal provisions, which presumed them innocent until found guilty, a situation, it said, was born-out of his inability to be dispassionate, especially in cases that involved the ruling party and the opposition.
According to the contents of the letter: "He is always eager to carry out his duties at the instance of the government and not necessarily in accordance with the provisions of the relevant laws". Falola, according to the petition, was said to have heard cases outside his magisterial district, a move borne out of his yearning for vengeance against some members of the Action Congress, whom he blamed for his inability to clinch the party ticket in the days of Alliance For Democracy (AD) before he eventually became a magistrate.
He was also alleged to have acted against the rule of law when some opposition party members, were arraigned before him with various degrees of injuries and did not bother to order that any of the accused persons with visible injuries be given any medical treatment.
...
Falola was also accused of attaching stiff bail conditions granted in his court, which the group said he did to keep such victims in notorious and hurting conditions to the delight of Oyinlola-led administration.
"Opposition party members were asked in Falola's court to produce as sureties, civil servants on salary Grade Levels 15,16, and above, when he is fully aware that Oyinlola's administration was hostile to the opposition and the civil servants are under the strict control of the government.
...
The petition also alleged that Falola went away with the record of his court, when a counsel representing the Action Congress, Mr. Gbenga Akano applied for the record of proceeding in the trial of the suspect arrested over the controversial explosion of June 14, 2007.
...
Falola was also accused of unmeritoriously detaining accused persons, who were witnesses to the atrocities committed by the PDP last April 14, 2007 gubernatorial elections, adding that the innocent victims were ultimately vindicated from the crimes levelled against them.
The group, however, pleaded with the NJC not to consider his nomination for appointment as a judge of high court in the state, adding that he is a minus that should not be accommodated in the judiciary that is already being criticized by the public.
...
Lastly, we call for the immediate withdrawal of Mr Jide Falola from the list of names submitted for selection as Osun State High Court Judge. A corrupt and compromised magistrate like Mr. Falola is a disaster in waiting to the judiciary should he be appointed as an high court judge considering his antecedence while serving as a magistrate.
...
Magistrate Falola may have been trained a lawyer; and taken the oath as a magistrate to dispense justice without fear or favour. But in his dealings with the Action Congress (AC) in the ensuing cases from the bitter and disputed elections of April 2007, the man has picked no bones about dispensing injustice with hearts quaking with fear of the Olagunsoye Oyinlola government (which seems to have him on the leash) and disfavour towards the opposition (which he must judicially crush and be seen to have crushed to have his breaks with that malevolent government). His effort appears duly rewarded with his new posting as the registrar of the Osun Customary Court of Appeal.
Falola may have got his reward. But at what cost has that been to the Osun Judiciary and the image of the Magistracy which, at the best of times, is seedy?
All through the witch-hunting and manufacturing of phantom charges to keep the Osun AC at bay so that Oyinlola could hold on to his stolen mandate, Falola stood firm as a staunch soldier of injustice and oppression, in betrayal of his professional training and oath of office.
...
During the clampdown that followed the violent protest of the rigged elections of April 2007, Falola was the start performer, proudly holding court in the court of injustice, playing shameless consultant to an evil government and projecting to the world, without any qualms whatsoever, that it was sheer bliss living with a dead conscience. When the phantom bomb blast at the Abere secretariat and the predictable attempt to wrap it around the neck of innocent citizens and further ground the opposition, Falola took it as an article of faith, a zealot committed to sinking the just and exalting the wicked. To many an AC partisan, the fear of Falola's court was the beginning of wisdom.
If AC party people are wheeled in and out of jail, and that terrible abuse in a democracy has become quite a norm in Osun State, Magistrate Falola takes the credit as the founding father and pioneer collaborator in foisting that injustice on an already traumatised people. But like every other person that lends his hallowed office to evil, nemesis is due to catch up with him sooner of later.
...
Falola is heading for such undistinguished company - and just as well.
With such scandalous behaviour and soulless profaning of his sacred office, it is Herculean to consider the magistrate a judge worth any salt.
NEMESIS appears to have started trailing ...

Guys, it is very true, these fraudsters are real.
I had an encounter at Alade Market; I went to change some money. I met this guy who approaches me. We agreed the price and he took me to his shop frontage.
I told him, I heard you people here are thief and money disappear etc. He said “God punish him if he do something like that"
After I counted my naira, it is minus #1,000. He collected all money back from me and do the recount, I counted it again and he now handed over the balance #1k. I left, while holding tight the money in my pocket.
When I get to my office, I recounted the money; pronto #20k is OFF.
I went back to the shop believing am dealing with original person, was told they don’t know them.
I was determined to get back my money.
I stayed at that Alade market for more than 2hrs, I keep telling all people coming to do Fx, please go inside, this guys are THIEVES, please go inside and meet original people.
When the guys could not tolerate me again, they became annoyed, they confronted me; Oga watin happen now... why you dey spoil our market? I told them one of you just duped me. I must get my money today! Today!!, I have send signal to the Area Command…….
The police around the area approach me for solution, they ask how much will i pay them to help me get back my #20k, I said I will pay 2k (i.e. 10%), they said no 5k, I agreed. they went to call the Head of Bureau De Change, he gave me 15k from my 20k after many stories and talk. he told me to please come back 3 days later to testify because they will go and arrest the guys from Local Airport as they are not registered with them but the know them based on my description, so that he too can get back his 15k oooooo. I said no problem.
I gave police 2k to balance 3k when I get back my 5k. I did not return again!

Lesson Learnt: - I was greedy then (I had the option of getting my transaction done in my office, but I wanted higher rate).
So approach registered Bureau de change don't mind the rate, it's better than losing more.

A WOMANS CONFESSED - During lunch at work lastweek, I ate 3 plates of beans (which I know I shouldn't). When I got home, my husband seemed excited to see me and exclaimed delightedly; Darling I have a surprise for dinner tonight.

He then blindfolded me and led me to my chair at the dinner table. I took a seat and just as he was about to remove my blindfold, the telephone rang. He made me promise not to touch the blindfold until he returned and went to answer the call. The beans I had consumed were still affecting me and the pressure was becoming unbearable, so while my husband was out of the room I seized the opportunity, shifted my weight to one leg and let one go. It was not only loud, but it smelled like a fertilizer truck running over a skunk in front of a garbage dump!

I took my napkin from my lap and fanned the air around me vigorously. Then, shifting to the other leg, I ripped off three more. The stink was worse than cooked cabbage. Keeping my ears carefully tuned to the conversation in the other room, I went on releasing atomic bombs like this for another few minutes.

The pleasure was indescribable! Eventually the telephone farewells signaled the end of my freedom, so I quickly fanned the air a few more times with my napkin, placed it on my lap and folded my hands back on it feeling very relieved and pleased with myself. My face must have been the picture of innocence when my husband returned, apologising for taking so long.

He asked me if I had peeked through the blindfold, and I assured him I had not. At this point, he removed the blindfold. To my utmost surprise, twelve dinner guests were seated around the table, with hand holding their noses! LOZZZZZZZ!!

I was once sent the following story in an email:

While a man was tuning his car, his 4 yr old son picked up a stone and scratched lines on the side of the car. In anger, the man took the child's hand and hit it many times; not realizing he was using a wrench.

At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures. When the child saw his father, with painful eyes he asked, 'Dad when will my fingers grow back?'

The man was so hurt and speechless. Devastated by his own actions, he went back to his car and kicked it many times.

A while later he was sitting in front of the car, and he finally looked at the scratches his son had made. What he saw were not random scratches, but WORDS. The child had written 'LOVE YOU DAD'.

The next day that man committed suicide. . .
