Investment › Re: Gtbank Savings Account Interest Payments Replaced By Deductions by Firefire(m): 10:24am On Jul 20, 2013
Guys,
I am really surprised the way Nigeria banks are reaping us off.
UBA is the worst bank ever in Nigeria with unexplainable monthly deductions.
I send several mails to their CFC no response. I called their customer care: we shall get back to you.
After 6 months Audit they will post billion as PAT (Profit After Tax) to show they are performing.
And we are clamoring for online banking: To transfer #1,000 from UBA to another bank on U-direct you pay #145 + COT + VAT.
Making you pay as much as #1,300 additional #300 that is 30% charges.
ECOBANK another wicked bank in Nigeria. Your Savings account with balance of #10,000 will run into debit (Minus) after some months due to bank charges.

We need to ask ourselves questions in this country: why robbing Peter to pay Paul?
Why are Nigerians banks deducting money/charges on SAVINGS ACCOUNT? How do u expect me so safe? (I save and you finish my savings with charges? 
Who is regulating all this banking transactions and responsible for bank customers complains in Nigeria?

Hope we find answers one day to all our countless questions.

Politics › B/haram: Shekau Denies Ceasefire •threatens More Attacks by Firefire(op): 12:29am On Jul 14, 2013
JTF or the civilian JTF will soon smoke out this useless bastard!

IN an apparent denial of a ceasefire, the bearded leader of Nigeria’s extremist Islamic sect, Abubakar Shekau, has threatened to burn down more schools and kill teachers. But he denied his fighters were killing children.

In a new video released Saturday, Shekau said he, “fully supports” attacks on several schools in northeastern Nigeria in recent weeks.

The United Nations Children’s Fund says at least 48 students and seven teachers have been killed since June, with some burned alive in a dormitory this month.

“We support the work they did at the school, at Mamudo and Damaturu, and other attacks in other schools,” said Shekau, who wore military fatigues in the video. “We are going to burn down the schools, if they are not Islamic religious schools for Allah.”

But Shekau insisted his fighters do not kill children.

“We don’t touch small children, we only burn the schools,” he says. “Our religion does not permit us to touch small children and women, we don’t kill children.”

He said his fighters would, however, attack teachers. “School teachers who are teaching Western education? We will kill them! We will kill them!” he warns, wagging his finger.

Shekau is a leader of the extremist group Boko Haram, whose name means “Western education is forbidden” in the Hausa language.

Attacks on schools have continued although thousands of troops have deployed in northeastern Nigeria to put down the Islamic extremists’ violent campaign which poses the greatest threat in years to the security of Nigeria, Africa’s biggest oil producer.

President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency on May 14 in the three northeastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.

In northwestern Nigeria this week, security forces said they engaged in a five-hour gunbattle against a group of Boko Haram fighters in Sokoto. The city is home to the Sultan of Sokoto, the pre-eminent leader of Nigeria’s tens of millions of Muslims, who preaches against extremism and who has condemned Boko Haram.

Police said they recovered a weapons cache including assault rifles, grenades, rocket launchers and homemade bombs.

There has been no attack on Sokoto since July 30 last year, when suicide bombers in cars laden with explosives simultaneously attacked a police station and the regional police headquarters. The two bombers and at least three other people were killed. At the time, Boko Haram threatened to assassinate the sultan.

Recently, the extremists have started targeting civilians, especially government workers, Christian pastors, school teachers and their students.

In the video, received by The Associated Press through intermediaries, Shekau also denied he is negotiating a peace agreement with the Nigerian government.

“We will not enter into any agreement with non-believers or the Nigerian government,” he said, speaking in his native Hausa.

“The Quran teaches that we must shun democracy, we must shun Western education, we must shun the constitution,” Shekau said in the 15-minute video.

At the end, he speaks in English to denounce the West, accusing it of trying to destroy Islam and working “to tactically make the Quran insignificant and unimportant.”

Politics › 104 Boko Haram suspects set for release by Firefire(op):
LAGOS — About 104 suspected members of the Boko Haram sect, currently being held at the Kirikiri Minimum and Maximum prisons, Lagos, might soon be released.

Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North, Tanimu Turaki, disclosed this to newsmen, yesterday, when he led the committee on a visit to members of the sect in the prisons in Lagos State.

The visit, according to Turaki, who is also Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, is to interact with those who are being detained in connection with acts related to terrorism.

He said: “We have interacted with them and they have responded to us very sincerely and frankly.

“I think I can say that we have been well informed about most of the issues that we are interested in, as a result of the interactions we have had with them.”

The Chairman explained that the committee will make appropriate recommendations to the government as far as the issue of their release or non-release is concerned.

Turaki said: “The issue of release usually is contingent upon certain conditions. We are more concerned, for now, with the release of vulnerable people. And in this group of vulnerable people we have those who the security agencies have not been able to pin anything on.

“We have seen those who the Director of Public Prosecution has advised that they be released. We have also seen some of them who security agencies themselves have conceded that they have not been able to make out any case against.”

The chairman further noted that with the committee’s interaction with more stakeholders, it had become more informed.

He said: “We have been given suggestions all of which will assist us in ultimately making our recommendations to government and I can assure you that the committee is on top of the situation as far as the issue of dialogue is concerned.”

He also noted that there will be impact assessment at the end of the day, “because we have been asked to study the situation carefully and to make appropriate recommendations for victim support.”

“I assure you that Nigerians will be very proud of this committee at the end of the day.”

Entertainment › Saying Goodbye To Kimura – The Oldest Man Who Ever Lived by Firefire(op): 3:10pm On Jun 13, 2013
Jiroemon Kimura, who passed away at the remarkable age of 116 years 54 days, held a record that few of us ever have the chance of achieving: the world's oldest living person. Perhaps more significantly, though, Kimura-san achieved an even rarer accolade when, on 28 December 2012, he became the oldest man who ever lived. As the oldest male whose age could be reliably determined, Kimura succeeded Denmark's Thomas Peter Thorvald Kristian Ferdinand "Christian" Mortensen, who reached 115 years 252 days in April 1988, and became the first man to ever exceed 116 years.

Kimura was born in 1897, the same year as authors Enid Blyton and William Faulkner, aviator Emelia Earhart and jazz musician Fletcher Henderson. In the same year, Queen Victoria celebrated her 60th anniversary on the British throne, and William McKinley became President of the United States.

The retired postal worker is one of the few men known to have lived across three centuries, and would have seen immense social and technological advances including the advent of motor vehicles, television, powered flight, space travel and the internet, and seen the accession of six UK monarchs, five Emperors of Japan and 20 US Presidents.

I had the honour of meeting with Kimura-san in October 2012, when I presented him with the latest edition of the Guinness World Records book and handed over his official certificates. He was very welcoming, accepting me and colleagues from our Tokyo office into his home in Kyotango, Kyoto. He was alert and sharp, and even spoke a few words of English he'd learned specially for my visit. It was touching to hear him say "Thank you very much," in English, loud and proud, as I handed over his certificate.

Only seven people are known to have ever reached the age of 116 years. Of these, only four went on to celebrate their 117th birthday, all of them women. Among them was Jeanne Louise Calment of France, who reached the record age of 122 years 164 days – the oldest person whose age has been fully authenticated.

Kimura will be remembered by us at Guinness World Records as a unique, inspirational individual who was a pleasure and honour to know. We've also had the privilege of acknowledging fellow Japanese Misao Okawa, who today at 115 years 99 days takes on the mantle of oldest living person. Now comes the task of identifying and confirming the current oldest living man, with James McCoubrey (Canada/USA) at 111 years 272 days – and the 32nd oldest living person according to the Gerontology Research Group – looking likely, pending authentication from Guinness World Records' gerontology consultant Robert Young

Car Talk › Old Number Plates, Driver's Licence Expire Sept 31, Says FRSC by Firefire(op): 6:13pm On Jun 12, 2013
Fo your information:
Old Number Plates, Driver's Licence Expire Sept 31, Says FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said on Wednesday that the old number plates and the old driver’s licence would expire by Sept. 31

The Sector Commander of the commission in Plateau, Mr Sunday Maku, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos.

Maku said that officers and men of the commission would commence enforcement by Oct. 1.

He called on motorists without driver’s licence to obtain one so as to stream into the changes taking place in the society.

He said that the new number plate would reduce criminal activities nationwide, adding that the new system had ``a tremendous advantage over the old ones’’.

“Before, it was possible for you to sell your car with your number plate; but nowadays, number plates are registered in the name of the owner.

“If you want to sell the car, you cannot sell the car with number plate, you have to remove the number plate, the new buyer will have to get his own number in his own name. So, with this system, it becomes very easy to trace criminals that are using number plates for criminal activities.``

He allayed the fears that the process of obtaining the new number plate was cumbersome, and urged those with old ones to come for revalidation. (NAN)

Politics › Unilag Students Protest High Cost Of Living by Firefire(op): 2:27pm On Jun 10, 2013
Students of the University of Lagos are protesting the high cost of living on campus.

Vanguard gathered that the peaceful protest started yesterday, as the students bemoaned the high cost of food and other basic items on campus, saying it is disheartening that students are paying higher for food and other consumables than their prices outside campus. The cost of making photocopies is also said to be too expensive for an academic environment.

According to a citizen reporter who seeks anonymity,”Imagine, we students are buying sachet water at N10 per sachet, Indomie super pack sold for N60 in town is N70 here, same as Indomie hungry man size, which is N100 everywhere except in my school where it goes for N110. Also soft drinks in plastic bottles such as Viju,Fanta,Pepsi are sold for N120 per bottle instead of its supposed retail price of N100

Politics › ACN: Boko Haram’s Ban Violates Constitution by Firefire(op): 11:14am On Jun 10, 2013
ACN: Boko Haram’s ban violates Constitution

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has said that the recent proscription of Boko Haram and Ansaru, desirable as it may be in tackling the terrorist organisations, violates the Constitution.

According to the party, the proscription stifles the press and tampers with the fundamental human rights of Nigerians.

In a statement yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the ACN said the order also makes it easy for an increasingly intolerant government to clamp down on the opposition, which it sees more as an irritant than an indispensable part of democracy.

It urged professional media organisations to challenge the Order in court to save journalists from long jail terms “simply for carrying out their constitutional duties”.

The ACN urged the Federal Government to clarify “the knotty and vague areas” of the open-ended Order, that may end up punishing journalists and infringing on the civil liberties of the citizens more than it will curtail the activities of the sects.

Politics › FG Plans Housing Scheme For Nigerians Abroad by Firefire(op): 10:46am On Jun 10, 2013
What is your thought on this?
Many Nigerians living in Nigeria has no home and our good government is planning housing scheme for Nigerians abroad.
People abroad...CONGRAT!!!

THE Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) is working out modalities to roll out a diaspora product to assist Nigerians living abroad own homes in Nigeria.

Managing Director of the bank, Gimba Ya’u Kumo, who disclosed this at the fourth Nigeria Development Finance Forum in Washington DC, United States (US), said the product had become necessary, given the large number of Nigerians in the diaspora who wished to own homes in Nigeria and also as a means of reducing the housing deficit in the country.

“We realized that about 17 million Nigerians are living outside the country and most of them have plans to have houses and they have not been able to do so.

“We understand that over the years, people, who have been remitting money for the building or buying of a house have not been getting good results. Stories have followed this money.

“What we are trying to do is that by the time we develop the diaspora mortgage model, it will be a model whereby Nigerians living abroad who want to buy houses can resort to FMBN and, at the end of the day, if they do not take the mortgage, they can get refund of their money with interest,” he said.

Kumo added that the reason the bank had chosen the US was because out of the 17 million Nigerians all over the world, US had about 58 per cent, adding that “we are going to do our case study here and in the United Kingdom (UK). If it works well, we will try to replicate it in Asia and other parts of the world.”

He said the move would also lead to the inflow of finance from the diaspora to Nigeria, which would further assist to reduce the housing needs in the country.

The FMBN boss also said that the Utility Refinancing Company that would assist in financing the sector would kick off soon with the corporation of the World Bank, International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Federal Ministry of Finance

Fellow Nigerians and Lagosians,
We all knew the magnitude of the Internally Generated Revenue of Lagos State.

Upon that they floated N50Bn BOND, N80Bn BOND and that one no reach them still went ahead for foreign debt $2.4Bn (N384Bn)

Total known debt (50+80+384 = N514Bn)and still counting and countless others.

and peoplae in Lagos are paying Tax and several taxes e.g PAYE, Land Use, Business Permit, Advert, even truck pusher dey pay tax etc

And 90% of the road are BAD. Hahahaaa wating dey happen in Lagos, ACHen and in Nigeria.
Please dont leave debt to the generation yet on born!!!

Lagos, Kaduna and Cross River States recorded the highest external debt stock of $611.25 million (25.64 percent), $215.68 million (9.05 percent) and $113.03 million (4.74 percent) respectively in 2012.

The commissioner described as immaterial, the issue of ascertaining the exact amount of debt.

Akabueze said: “We are not talking of static figure. By the time we conclude today’s activities, the figure must have either moved up or down. “If you are expecting me to give you specific amount, I am not going to do that,” he said.

The commissioner described as immaterial, the issue of ascertaining the exact amount of debt.
“What is going round as the figure is, at best, an aggregate sum. However, what is important is the sustainability of the debt. In Lagos State, the aggregate debt amounts to less than one percent of annual revenue. Because of this, it is not correct to say the State is having financial problem”, the Commissioner said.

PDP gives condition for Amaechi, Wamakko pardon

The Peoples Democratic has said it would recall the Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, and his Sokoto State counterpart, Aminu Wamakko, from their suspension if they apologise to the party.

The ruling party said the governors were suspended in the interest of the party. It said it would only recall the two governors if they showed remorse for their actions and recognised the supremacy of the party.

While the party suspended Wamakko on Wednesday for alleged “disrespect and act of insubordination” to its National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur, and his office, Amaechi was suspended on May 27, for refusing to reinstate a local government chairman in the state.

Speaking to our correspondent on the telephone on Friday, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, said it was saddening that Amaechi and Wamako took actions that warranted their punishment.

He noted that the suspension of the governors from the party was to enforce party discipline, adding that, “there is no correlation between their suspension; it’s purely coincidental.”

Metuh said, “Anytime there’s remorse from our leaders and governors, we will rejoin with them.

“We’ll welcome them with both hands; we’d rejoice with them and their reunion. That’s what we want; we just want an acceptance of the supremacy of the party’s organs.

“As a party, we seek to add more; we don’t seek to reduce. Everything that happened was quite unfortunate. It was bound to happen in the interest of the party. Not that we rejoice in it; we are sad about the development. We are not happy about it.”

The PDP spokesman said the party gave Wamakko an opportunity to defend himself but he allegedly ignored the party.

Metuh said, “We invited him and he didn’t come. We invited him the second time and he didn’t come. We wrote him and he directed the state secretary to reply. What other fair hearing did he want?

“We gave him the opportunity to defend himself. Is it fair to abandon his party? Is it fair to be indisciplined? Is it fair that he abdicated his responsibility to his party?”

Showing us pictures of elaborate places of less than 2% and nothing done to the rest 98%.
Lagos is indeed working. ( Omaa seee ooo)

Mile 2 to Badagry road is terrible
Come to Agbara up to Badagry and into those areas, forget you are not in Nigeria; maybe Congo or worst place in Africa.
And the ACHen are busy carrying out Lagos and other western state money to expand their bogus territory.
Time shall tell. Nigerians and Lagosians are no fool again.
I hate PDP with passion (Party of Blood sucker)
In fact ACHen in Lagos under Fashola in this his second time is worse than Jonathan government.
We dey wait for those useless and good for nothing lawbreakers called lawmakers to come and get vote in my area under ACHen. You shall surely be STONE TO DEATH. I promised you.
ACHen Local Govt Chairmen? Bundle of nuisance with nothing, I mean nothing attached to their nomination by their useless godlesfather.
Time shall tell. – 2015 is round the corner.
ACHen or whatever you turn yourself into I dey laugh una in Spanish.
PDP IS DEAD ALREADY.
I Think we need Military to take over this country of we ask the colonial master to come back.

“ALL NIGERIA POLICITIANS THAT FAILED TO Deliver dividend of democracy but take please in stealing our money, shall die untimely and with no one to bury their dead bodies.”
