LagosismyHome: Tough question , depending on what your plans are .......
If you spending that on MBA , in some case you might get an offer for more than that as your year salary so overall its worth the investment and pays back . However if lets says you are doing MPH just to use as a stepping stone to move to residency then spending that amount on John Hopkins me i would not . Yes U have brandname on ur Resume but me i wont say it was worth it (some others will disagree with this statement so its a personal choice . I would rather go to a cheaper school and then face my USMLE exams
If your papa get many money yeah why not ...... if he isnt and your GPA and GRE is ok , then maybe you tap into schools that can give you GA and help you reduce that cost . ......In this economy 65K is no Joke and Newyork again , the accomodation bill for this kind dollar scarcity. You dont want to spend your master worrying SICK about how to complete your money , crying every night so if U no get 65k STEP AWAY
i dont know what to say because its all a personal choice depending on what you want . If its not MBA or some other strategic course then everyone salary go be the same range kind off after graduation so why Spend that money . Best to look for GA or something off
as for UK ...... Fizzile will jump on me if i talk , lol... so let me not talk. U can check my previous post and see my view on UK. Anybody wey wan go UK, make him no follow me ooooo. People get their different plans oooo. Me I get my own plans for UK waka oooo...lololZzzz. No be when UK come jam you now, u go say na because of fizzile u go UK. Better have ur plans intact ooo. OluDare01: I could remember vividly when I joined this thread, I needed quick answers to my questions but unfortunately, nobody answered me. My first 4 posts were ignored, I was angry but not hurt. So I decided to start reading part 7 from page 1 cos I joined in part 7. By the time I got to the last page, I was so loaded with info. Then I knew why my questions were not answered; though they were not silly. The zeal made me read part 1-6.
But fast forward to over a year, I notice some people are so lazy to read previous pages, who you eppp Yourself. Take the pain and go through the thread, make use of the search button. Follow people that are loaded with info, that's how to learn. Not coming here and asking 'funny' questions.

OlowoB: Hello sir, you cannot take out of the money you have kept in the bank for 28 days for your maintenance and balance of school fees except if the money is in surplus of the required funds.
If for example, the money you require for both maintenance and school fees = 100k and you have kept exactly this same amount in the bank for 28 days, do not let the money go below this amount until you have been given the visa. If the money is more than 100k in your account, you can use the excess of the 100k for whatever you feel like but it must not go below the required funds.
The home office will still likely check the amount in the account after going for your interview, so do not think that once you print out the statement, you can then move the funds away (the 15 working days for visa processing is to check that your documents are correct). I will strongly advice you not to touch or let the money go below the required funds until you have been given the visa.
The rule is, it is better to be safe than sorry. This OlowoB dey bam. U suppose go do lecturing job oooo. U sabi how to download info into our brain. U toomuch. I guess what you explained is straightforward. |

LagosismyHome: U Welcome this is DareFadi btw. No longer using former
Please stay away from Coventry Uni except if u were given scholarship.... u won't gain anything back from the system and they will kick u out once done. No post study visa for now (well it might change now Uk leaving the EU to PBS ). But what changes nobody knows yet until 2yrs from now......
it would be better finding that masters in a usa school that has a phd program as well. At least after ur masters u are already in d system and can look around the department for prof with grants to give u GA . Maybe u can even finda GA or instate tuition after 1st semester if u r grades are good . Also the post study visa u get after ur program in d usa will give you enough time to find a job and hopefully a h1b visa sponsor. Discouraging him from going to Coventry is not the best. People have their different plans in life. Many have aswell come from the UK to the US. So if one doesn't have the opportunity to get to the US at the very point in time, and has an offer somewhere else nkor? Like he has said, he has plans of moving to the US after his masters in UK. I have a friend who had a distinction fro Coventry, now will you tell me d guy won't get funding if he applies to schools in US? Let's minimize all these discouragements. Everybody's destiny doesn't lie in the US. Change is constant and for that reason policies are bound to change. What if the post study policy is reversed during the course of his stay in the UK and what if post study is also reversed in the US? |

shinym: Hi OlowoB, thanks a lot for your many insightful posts. Please I'd like your opinion as to the kind of jobs available to students while schooling in Derby; and also the job prospects in the UK after a masters degree. I got an offer for MSc Control & Instrumentation at University of Derby and also @ Coventry Univ, having studied Elect Elect Engineering in my first degree. I only have experience on inverter and solar panel installations at the moment though. And please, do you have any idea on IGlobal University's MBA program in Virginia, USA.
Looking forward to your response, thanks a lot!

P.S: @fizzile, I'm also considering my Coventry MSc Elect Elect Eng'g offer though. Congrats on your offer. Its good to know that you are interested in schooling at Coventry. I'll be going there. Well, am not in your line but I have a friend who just got back from Coventry University and graduated with a distinction in Electrical Electronics Engineering but he is not here on nairaland. I could introduce you to him if you don't mind. Now I have found another person going to Coventry, that's three(3) now. |

Igbiboi: De way to go about it is this: first get a school in the USA for example you can get admission into technology management (which BTW, at Uni Bridgeport has the highest Nigerian student concentration) at UB for university of Bridgeport. Then after your first semester hopefully you will be able to get good grades, then using the grades you got at UB you can then transfer to another school that offers your course. I think University of Massachussets Lowel offer courses in renewable energy in the dept of mechanical engineering. You may check them out, but I'm almost certain they will not give u admission because of GP matter.
I know UB, as I was once at the school before I later transferred out. And secondly, if u don't know anybody in the U.S. You've to first go to the school that will be easier for you to survive and after geting the orientation about USA then you can go to those places which are more alien to your culture. Even though Texas has a lot of Nigerians there, I know UB will be easy for you to adapt because of its high Nigerian student population, the downside is that it is in Connecticut and during winter Connecticut gets so freezing, sometimes it could get as low as -7 degrees. But atleast what your going for will be related. Am going for Environmental Science and can't find anything related to that in the school. |

Igbiboi: Gee, do you wanna do MSC? If so, have ever heard of the school called University of Bridgeport? It is one of those schools in Connecticut U.S. That admit low grade students. But before I go further I want you tell me your Nigerian undergrad GPA not the evaluated one, and the reason is this: most people do not realize that some schools do not ask for evaluated transcripts and as such might have a more lenient grader than many of the evaluator companies.
I know University of Bridgeport personally and I can guarantee you that with a good application and if you show enough ability to pay schools fees they will admit you straight away. And luckily also the U.S. Embassy recognizes the school and I've never seen anybody denied visa because of that school. Presently, there are over 30 Nigerians in the school. Just checked it and they don't offer my course. |

Igbiboi: Bro, on their website do they have something like an unofficial evaluation calculator like WES where you can first convert your grades to have a glimpse of what it will amount to before sending them your transcript. No, they don't. But trust me you will be amazed at how your GPA will climb. I am telling you out of experience. I know what am saying. Mekurexx and OjaP can attest to that. Never expected it was gonna increase that much. Just evaluate your transcript. |

OlowoB: Hello fizzle, if you have any further questions which you need answers to ASAP and you are not getting them on here, you can always contact the International department of your school.
Please also note that my personal opinion will be in black and home office rules will be in blue.
(1) You can use the money your dad has already placed in the account since last year sef provided the money is able to cater for both your maintenance fees and balance of school fees at the current exchange rate on OANDA and the printed bank statement must be recent.
Let me explain in simple terms......you want to print out your bank statement and send to your school to collect your CAS right? Just go to the bank and print out from June 1st to June 29 (that coves the 28 days period). Please make sure that the amount you will print out covers your maintenance fees and balance of school fees at Oanda's current exchange rate (this is what i will suggest). The school will likely use the rate of the day you printed it out (i may be wrong but confirm from the international/Admissions department of your school). After collecting your CAS, use the same bank statement for application of your VISA within 31 days (not more than 31 days).
The home office states that your money must be in the bank for 28 days ending no more than 31 days before the date of your application. Simply put, once printed, use it within 31 days for your application.
(2) The most important thing is that does the money in the account cover your maintenance fees and balance of school fees at the current Oanda Exchange rate? It will be preferable that whichever day you would print out the statement, check the current exchange rate of that day and make sure that when you do the calculations, it covers your maintenance and balance of school fees.
If you will print it out today and send to your school, it is likely that the school will use the current exchange of that day (i doubt they will use the exchange rate of 2 months ago) to judge your statement . I have advised that with this fluctuating exchange rate, to be on the safe side, students should put in extra money in their accounts.
Please if the money you have in your account at the moment (i think you already used the rate of 2 months ago to fix the money) will not be able to cover maintenance fees and balance of your fees at the current exchange rate, DO NOT PANIC. I will suggest you contact your school to seek their opinion before starting another 28 days count.
Home office on their website suggests that they will use exchange rate of the day you submit and pay for your application online but i strongly believe that with this fluctuating exchange rate, once you get your CAS (the school would have also verified your statement of account and trust me, the school needs your money and they would not want you not getting your visa), do your application online and go for your interview with the same statement of account verified by the school, you will get your visa.
For your school fees and maintenance, it is always OANDA rate that you must use.
[b]Finally, for your questions, you are not dragging anyone back. Ask as many as you wish. He who asks, can never go astray. I wish you all the best bro/b] Great. Topnotch. Now I get it clear. Thanks boss. Inshort I have to change your name to dependable OlowoB. Atleast between the month of July and August, I should be able to sort that out. Thanks a lot. |
