The whole situation is a bit confusing.

The school says they're resuming on Monday:

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/10/noun-fixes-monday-for-resumption-of-academic-activities/amp/

I know that registration for new students is currently ongoing... But I don't know when the registration will end and when the new students are to resume...

Please if you can throw more light or know anyone who's currently doing a post graduate there please put me in contact with the person so I can get the accurate information. Thanks a lot man

Studies have started for those that registered for 2020_2. If you are through with your registration, go to your study centre with your e-wallet and exam registration slip so that you can be given textbooks. Also, you can download the materials at https://nou.edu.ng/courseware.

Currently, date for close of registration is not known.

Also, expect to write exams December 2020

NOUN is trying to rush up things.

When do you think students who register now will start their studies?

Do you think they'll be rushed to meet up or do you think they'll start in January?

It is expected that if you have registered for the new semester, you should have started your studies.

In other words, if you have registered for 2020_2, you should expect to write exams December /January.

PRESS RELEASE

NOUN Resumes Academic Activities on Monday

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) will resume academic activities on Monday, October 12, 2020.

This follows the recent decision of the Federal Government on re-opening of all academic institutions.

The university had suspended all academic activities on March 20, 2020 following the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.

NOUN director of media and publicity, Mr. Ibrahim Sheme, said in a press release that the university Management has directed all members of staff to resume duty on Monday.

According to him, the university Registrar, Mr. Felix I. Edoka, had advised the staffers to strictly abide by all the known COVID-19 safety protocols while at work, saying any breach would not be tolerated.

He added that the Registrar informed all deans, directors and heads of unit to ensure compliance with both the resumption and the safety measures.

It is noteworthy that NOUN students were able to continue with their studies from home during the six-month lockdown, the university being an Open and Distance Learning (ODL) institution which requires no classroom attendance.

Signed:

Ibrahim Sheme
Director, Media and Publicity,
NOUN

The programme was just introduced last semester and supposed to commence this semester according to information given out last semester. But till now, nothing much has been done in that regards that of their official websites.

I really love your efforts in assisting students in this platform. May God's blessings overflow in your life. Amen

Sorry please can someone help.
I paid tru remita, they were supposed to send me a mail with a pdf receipt, but I didn't get a pdf receipt with the mail they sent. Now I can't get the RRR code.

The RRR you used to pay is still the same RRR after payment (the only difference is that it will be turned to a receipt). If you want to confirm and get the RRR receipt, go to remita.net, click resend invoice/receipt, input the RRR you used to pay and the receipt will be resent to your email address.

Hello everyone, I have two core courses at thesame day and time. What can I do in this situation? Please I need response.

Try to utilize your time properly. You will have to write the 2 courses. Let's say for example you have both papers at 8am, and they are 2 hours courses, know that you will not be given 4 hours but 2 hours. So what you have to do is share your 2 hours between the 2 courses (1 hour per course). Immediately you enter the examination hall, tell the invigilator you have 2 courses that particular time.

thanks for this information.
I have tried it, it's working just that I don't have some of the documents available now.

meanwhile, I want to enquire abt the possibility of changing the course I applied for since I have not bn granted full admission.
is it possible to change to another course within the same faculty?

There's no way you can change your course of study unless you buy another form. You already paid for that particular course, therefore, you can't edit it again even if you refill the form

I saw on the website that Uyo center is permanently closed. Please how true or where is their center in Uyo?

I saw MSc in Public health recently added.

How true is this course?

I need information about the MPH

Uyo Centre cannot be permanently closed. Go to the centre and see for yourself.

MPH is a new course but whether it has fully kicked off is what we don't know for now. Later, the information about MPH will be passed.

Well said for the bold but contradictory.
Carry over means, you sat for exams and failed. Incomplete means you missed the TMAs and/or the exams.
In both cases of incomplete and CO (F), a student is required to re-write. But the difference is in the calculation of your GPA/CGPA. I think an Incomplete result will not be taken into consideration in calculating your CGPA while a CO will.

Contrary opinion is welcome.
Thanks for your response Fkj202004

Thank you for the clearer response

Enskynelson:

What's the difference between incomplete Result for a course and CO?

Incomplete result means you missed a TMA or exam.

Carry over means you either failed the course or you didn't write exams/TMAs.

When one have incomplete result, it is also carry over and the student is expected to register the course(s) the next semester.

I am highly interested in this. Last semester 2020/1, many courses were introduced but could not kick off because probably, the course materials as well as other things were not ready and the University shifted their start to this semester 2020/2 with the view that before now, they would have done the necessary things required for the start of those programs. Till now, no official information to students and prospective students in that regard. Students who registered for some of those programmes last semester were told that the money will be refunded back to their e-wallet.
Can anyone here clarify if the newly introduced programmes have started e.g. M.Sc. Public Health, M.A. English etc.

it's still showing the old study centre. at least when taking decisions like this they are supposed to carry the students along prior to the exam. now I had to forfeit 7 Courses this semester because of their non chalant attitude.

Students were given this information about this earlier this year. Probably you didn't get to hear of it. They only reiterated this because students still went to centres to write as visiting students when they have been told earlier that visiting students won't be allowed except paramilitary personnel.

Change of Study centre have closing date every semester

1.Countless time, i have asked for a whatsapp or telegram group of my study centre, till date, i have not be given any response...The school doesn't notify students via sms or emails of any changes..(afterall, what is the essence of them collecting our emails and phone numbers?).
Most times we only get to hear some information only whenever we come to school

2.If there is no student union who do students run to for help?.That means the management decision is final, even when it affects the student..
On the issue of workers organizing a union, we have so many examples of workers operating a functional union,NOUN shouldnt be an exception.

3.After collecting money for the same materials, they still want us to use our money again to go and print materials in soft copy.
Why dont dey refund us the money to enable us go and print the soft copies?
Last semester i did about 8courses but was given only 1 material, the money for the 7 was not given to me..Why allow us pay for something you know is not available?

If you have issues, you are always free to go to your centre to complain and if they can't, they will surely escalate the issue to headquarters.

Well, send me an email at Fkj202004@gmail.com and I will always keep in touch with you so that you won't feel bad about the school.

1. If your centre doesn't have a Whatsapp/telegram platform, tell them to do so. That's the fastest way you can get information.

2. NOUN doesn't allow student union because it isn't recognized as a conventional university.

3. I think you didn't read your handbook or you don't even have one. Read your student handbook and you will see that your materials will either be provided electronically or hard copies. If you decide to print, you can't hold anyone for that.

I am not arguing with you but please try to inform your study centre Director so that Whatsapp/telegram group can be created.

Have a nice day.
Education / Re: #OPINION: National Open University Is Not An Organised University. by Fkj202004: 9:58pm On Sep 15, 2020
Iyke1998:
Good day everyone.
I am a student of National Open University Wuse 2 Abuja Study centre.
Please forgive my poor write up

Here are my reasons on why i think National Open University Of Nigeria is not Organized.[b]

(1)POOR COMMUNICATION: [b]
We all know that communication is key in passage of information. As a student of NOUN, you must source for your information by yourself, there are no numbers to call to make inquiries.
For example, during every exams, students are given a 30minutes grace period to arrive your centre, but as a result of this Covid19, the grace period was removed..
Note: This was done without the notice of some students, for some students missed their exams not knowing that the 30mins grace period has been stopped.
Some were trapped in traffic as results of the heavy down pour.

(2)NO UNION[b]
I once heard that they have a SUG President, but for 3years in that school, i have never seen or felt the effect of the SUG.
Students dont have a voice in the school, the VC or Director's decision is the final.

(3)NOT ENOUGH MATERIALS FOR STUDENTS[b]
Imagine having to thousands of naira for 8 materias(Textbook), but you are given only 2.. angry angry
This is what you see in National Open University, and they will always tell you that the reason is because the materials are not available for now..
You will never get to collect it again..

The school is so frustrating.

Lalastic.lala

Well I will answer you to the best of my knowledge.

1. I won't say NOUN doesn't pass information rather I will say you want information to be brought to your doorstep. Do you follow NOUN on twitter and not get information and on time? Are you in your centre's Whatsapp/telegram group and information wasn't passed? My advice, go follow NOUN on twitter and join your centre's Whatsapp/telegram group so that you can be getting information and on time. Although, the information about this current examination was passed shortly to the exam, I can tell you that immediately the information came out, 95% of students got to know within few hours. The remaining 5% are the ones that want centre officials to be calling them personally to give them update. Even instructions for the examination was passed since last week.

2. NOUN doesn't have union. The school was firstly created for workers but now most students are young school leavers. How do you expect workers to organise student unions.

3. NOUN's policy is either to give you materials in hard or soft copies, so if you have 3 or 4 textbooks out of 8, go online and download the others. All course materials are online.

Please, stop discouraging people from getting admission into NOUN because you kinda failed to do your part.
